Is it possible to keep YouTube playing in the background while I another stuff? I was listening to an audio podcast on YouTube and decided to send an sms as soon as I press back or the long press home button to change apps, the audio ceases..
Is this a bug or is there some workaround?
Thanks
anyone?

I believe this behavior of the app is by design. It stops playback when it's not in the foreground.
Not sure you can do anything about it.
At least the new app doesn't stop playback when you press power button

how is it that iOS even has a tweak to keep stock youtube app running in the background and Android doesn't!?!
Because someone that wrote YouTube for Android decided that he doesn't want this app to run in the background, and doesn't want to give the option for that either.
What to do? Use the unofficial apps, I guess. They work.
works on my nook and Optimus

That allow you to skip forward/backward 5 or 10 seconds with a single button press? (In other words, *NOT* using the progress bar.)
I tried TouchMusic but that one is pretty horrible.
Are there any others?
The lack of a substantive Music player on Android is maddening. It stems from the g1 not having a 3.5mm jack.
There isn't one. Feel free to yell from the rooftops that the music player isn't good enough.
With Rachel already announced, it would be hot if someone could make something like what SE showed as a media player.. uh?
isnt it possible a player can be brought over?
We still have to wait for the ROM to be out somewhere, so the player can be ported out of Rachel =(
I'd be shocked if the Racheal Music Player wasn't dependent of the framework.
No, someone needs to take a long hard look at the iPhone's music player, clone it, and let us all move on.
What really bothers me is the lack of an ability to rate songs and then have those ratings synced. I like to put brand new albums on my music player and then rate them 1-2 stars for immediate removal next sync, 3 stars for "further evaluation" and 4-5 stars for keepers. I can't do this with my android.......

The default music application lets you do that by holding the next/previous track button, if that's what you're looking for..
Rock on music player.
E-mail the developer of this music player. He is extremely helpful in trouble shooting bugs in his software. I would imagine he would be interested in developing new features into it as well.
His name on XDA is fabrantes.
Here is the thread about the app:

Unfortunately no. I'm looking for a precise skip forward/backward 5/10 sec with a single button press, not fast forward/rewind seeking.
I'm guessing not a single app on the market does this then?

i bet it's a 5min thing for a developer to edit this in the default Music app...
go bug normsoft makers of Pocket Tunes to port their app to android.
PTunes is the best music player back in my Palm days... they have already ported it to WinMob and Iphone
Just to throw it out there Meridian is possibly the best media player for android and the wiget it comes with is also great. I do agree that the phone should have came with a normal headphone jack instead of the stupid usb wire that you need now.
Hello.
After rooting my LG Thrill, and freezing/deleting some default applications (such as default music player), these buttons appeared in my notification bar. They look cool, but this is the only thing they do. No reaction on simple touch or long press.
I would really like to remove them or make them work. Any help is welcome.
Thank You, and sorry for my bad english

Its a result of you freezing your music app... it wont go away till you restore it. Or if you want to try your hand at changing the code to remove it from the notification area

I'm afraid i lack some knowledge to change code. This is my first smartphon and i got it like 2 weeks ago. Thank you though. Will try to restore default music player.
And i would be really thankful if You could get me some tips on how to change that code.
Man... I think the stock music player is just fine and happen to enjoy the controls in the notification area.... why err'body hatin' all the time dizzang.
I'm not hating it, it's just, there are players that can give you more control over your music, with more settings and better sound quality

I'm in the same boat! I just like power amp more. I don't want that installed if I'm never going to use it.. But I don't want the non functional controls taking up screen space either. I was surprised to disable it, remove the app - then see it return.
I've seen some people remove it on lg p990's I think, we could probably do something similar - but it looked complex. If it was as simple as changing a text file...
If u just want to remove it from the notification bar open the music app hit the menu button then click settings and unclick the music player in notification. Hope this helps

if u can fix it good for u or reinstall the room
but for best player is PowerAMP
so cool app that u will hear the music like never befor
Was wondering if anyone has had this problem that i have and if there is a fix for it. I am using the stock rom and when i play podcasts or music in general in any app i want to multitask and research what im listening to but honeycomb seems to kill the task and its stock nothing to make it do it i want it to play audio in background while im surfing the browser or other areas but it just kills task.
That might depend on the app. I know that TuneIn Radio will play in the background. In fact, at first I wondered why it didn't stop.

guessing thats normal then since it doesnt do it in other apps. i tried doggcatcher and beyondpod but it kills them must be an app problem but they say its not. oh well
Maybe you need to change priority of your app to Foreground? But sound likes really this app doesn't support playing in backgr

I'm not a heavy podcast listener- but for what it's worth-
I use the google listen app for the ones I do listen to...it works for listening while browsing... I'm running stock HC on my ds7 as well.
the ram for the dell streak 7 available is only 256mb, and HC 3.2 was setup so that it automatically close the task in background if it run out of memory.
the only fix is that go to development in settings menu and uncheck the box "close background apps"
Wasn't sure where exactly to post but please move to the correct sub forum.
I need an app that does what the subject title does. Its not a necessity but more of a gimmick. I want the screen to remain on when an app is running in the background and I've tried and tested various apps from the play store and none of them are working the same with my old nexus 5.
When I begin playing a playlist from Spotify I dock it in my car cradle and then put it to sleep mode, the music is still playing and when I push the sleep button on again, it comes up with a cover art which looks pritty cool in my car.
I've downloaded several apps and when I assign the 'screen on function' to Spotify it stays on fine when loading up the app but when I get the phone to go into sleep mode (with the app still in the background) the screen doesn't stay on. The apps do what they are supposed to do when keeping the screen on when Spotify is loaded but its the sleep mode I'm stuggling to get it to work properly.
Any ideas which App can do this? I've crawled through google play store and none of them are doing what I need them to do.
Thanks
exactly what you want:

good luck
Thats working, will test later but thanks for responding. Been looking for an app for a long time. Cheers.
I have come to the conclusion that Netflix can be run in the background when you put your phone into split screen and going to your home screen. I do not know if this is even possible and I am not a developer. But I believe that this can be implemented into an Xposed module by taking advantage of this wierd "glitch". Just an idea and again, I'm no developer, but if someone is willing to take this on, that would be so awesome.

I listen to comedy on netflix when doing mundane repetitive tasks at work, for example.
If you are using bluetooth headphones, you can turn off the screen or switch to another app, and when the video pauses, click play the headphones play button.
