Basically I connect my phone to my comp I open my computer and the icon for my phone is there and im able to go into my phone files just fine.. After I disconnect the USB to my phone then reattach it, the icon is still there but when I open it my phones' files are no longer there. I have to restart my comp for it to show my phone. this is really annoying anyone know how I can fix this?
Step 1. Put on a shirt.
Step 2. ??????
Step 3. Problem fixed
I've never actually laughed out loud when I write LOL...just did.
hahahaha im just mocking ppl who do that those boobs are not mine lol
Oh well in that case.
Im not sure if this will fix it, but im assuming you are browsing the "Mobile Device" in explorer? If so try using F5 to refresh when in the folder.
If not open ActiveSync.
File > Connection Settings > Connect > Next
It will try to ping your device and force a connection.
Unfortunately I'm using Vistas mobile device center which doesn't show a connection either...
Btw I found an error on my phone under active sync: "0x8503001f Cannot sync with outlook profile u are using, cuz a diff profile was previously set up or the profile is pw protected. please open outlook w/appropriate profile"
When I connect my phone to the pc, I get no USB notification, and it doesn't charge while connected to the PC.
However, my tethering working which tells me that the USB cable is working....This happened after the CRC1 update. (I have wiped, but its still doing it)
Have you tried seeing if usb debugging is checked? Settings-->applications-->development. If all else fails try uninstalling and reinstalling the usb mass storage devicee.
What a horrible update.. in on thread to see if you find a fix for this
are you trying to use the android in usb mode? ive had a few times when my android isnt showing up so i go to the device manager and under usb i uninstalled the drivers for the mass stoage device, unplug my phone, replug it back in and let the computer install the drivers.
Just FYI, if your phone is rooted, you should NOT install OTA.... OTA's from T-Mo are disabled for a reason. You may have to go back down to RC29 if wipe, nandroid restore, or flashing don't work
Does anyone know how to block the ota thing fom continually popping up?

Yea, the weird part is that every now and then, I will get the my notification that its connected, and it will go away in 5-10 seconds...the debugging is checked. The notification is very random, however my phones tethering is still working great. Its very odd...I've tried 3 different USB cables and all 4 of my USB ports on my PC.
Wow...apparently it was a horrible coincidence, and I had 2 bad usb cables. I bought one home from my dads house, and it worked again....very strange.

It would be easier if you had that listed in your post
glad to see you got it to work.
Hey, I need a little help with this here.
1. I flashed Jelly Bean (9.1.A.0.490 Stock Generic-Intl) on my Xperia V yesterday. Before that, when I had ICS, I had paired my laptop and phone via WiFi, so that I could have access to the phone's data whenever, without having to run for the USB cable all the time.
2. Under "Trusted Devices" in Settings --> Xperia --> USB Connectivity it says there are no trusted devices (which is correct, considering that I have NOT paired my phone with my laptop after flashing).
3. Sometimes (especially after shutting down my laptop), in the notification bar I see that the phone is "Awaiting Connection" from my laptop (which is strange, given that I have NOT paired my phone with my laptop after flashing). Tapping on that notification does nothing. It is swipeable, though.
4. I tried to pair my laptop with my phone over WiFi after flashing and I get an error message (see the attached screenshot for the error) on the phone, while PCC says "Failed to connect over WiFi" (or something to that tune). (Now this is really weird, given that PCC should be able to read/write into the protected part of my phone's memory.)
5. I have long pressed the notification, and then tapped "App Info", which took me to the app in the Apps, under Settings. I cleared app data, and force stopped it. Then I restarted my phone, and tried to pair, with the same result. (In fact, the screenshot was taken after this attempt.)
Lastly, I have made some conclusions:
1. Somehow my phone thinks that it is paired with my laptop, because the message appears in the notification bar only after shutting down my laptop. However, I cannot see my phone in my laptop, nor see that the phone has connected with my laptop anywhere in the phone.
2. Solving this the easy way would require me to root my phone, and delete the file myself. But I don't want to root, not just yet. Maybe in some time, but not just yet.
Any ideas on how to fix this? Thanks in advance! (I promise, upon my honor, to hit thanks on all those posts that help!!)
Kartik.
Ps. I know it got kinda long, but I thought that it would be better to expose all my cards, for your convenience.
Solved
Ok. Here's what I did.

Thank you.
Hello there.
First of all, the backgrounds...
I'm using CM11 by Maclaw, running 4.4.4
I got curious and unticked MTP on the notification tray. Usually the system won't let you untick it unless you tick the other option. But this actually left both options untick, so now it won't even connect to my laptop, and the option in the notification tray disappeared. All that is left is the USB debugging mode option. I still hear the sound when you plug a usb device on my laptop but it's not just connecting. I've tried rebooting. There's also no setting (that I could see) that would let you choose which connection method you want.
Any idea what's happening here? Or how to fix this?
Thanks in advance!!!
Update: Never mind. You could actually press the menu button when inside Storage in Settings.
For a few days now, after connecting my usb cable to the pc, i get the "connect" sound on both the PC and the Phone, but it keeps going to charge only, not MTP. I checked the Dev Options, set it to MTP, still didnt work.
I also did a factory reset, nothing. Any ideas?
Also, the notification popup for choosing the connection type via USB, no longer shows up.
EDIT: I tried multiple cables, they are not the problem.
Remove driver on PC > right click on start button > device manager > show disconnected devices and uninstall your mobile driver.
Install again the huawei suite and try connect your phone.

Again, all of the USUAL stuff I've tried. One thing i have noticed, under the options where i chose what type of connection i want to have, if i change it from one to another, it dosen't update right away, i have to close the options, and reopen them to see it change.
Considering you tried the usual software stuff and that you've tried multiple cables, it may be your phone's port that's damaged or something.
If you don't have any sensible data on the phone I suggest doing a factory reset, just to discard the possibility. But if that seems like too much hassle, I would get an ftp app on the playstore to do all the data transferring between your phone and any windows machine. I personally use the solid explorer plugin.
Hope I helped!

You said you've already performed a factory reset, tried cables, tried reinstalling drivers cleanly, and tried several settings on the phone.
Have you gotten HiSuite installed? If so, does HiSuite recognize your phone at all?
Have you also tried different computers? I would figure you did since you said you tried all the obvious things....
If HiSuite gives no response at all and you've already factory reset before, I feel as though its either a hardware problem like FAFI_1999 has suggested, or it is a very deep rooted software bug (behind repair for a regular user, maybe even in kernel, plus there is no clear way of knowing where the exact problem lies at this point so we wouldn't know where to look in the first place).
In this case, best advice I could give you is to send your phone to a service center.... At least if it still falls under warranty....
Does adb see your phone?
For me it always goes to charge only and I have to manually check (or uncheck and recheck) the Files option in the notifications.

The problem is, the notification doesn't even show up, and when i go to options to change it, it dosent want to switch, it just stays the same, no matter what option i choose.

I think i know the issue and i also got the solution.
Maybe the problem is an update KB that was installed on your PC. 3 months ago, Microsoft releasead a KB update that broke MTP ( https://betanews.com/2017/03/10/microsoft-admits-mistake-pulls-problematic-windows-10-driver/ ). Read the article and do what it's recommended for your windows version.
good luck. V

If that KB update is installed, at every reinstall of USB driver its gonna install the wrong one. I had the issue on my laptop and had to uninstall the kb and then plug again the phone in to reinstall the correct usb driver.
If the bug is caused by windows, even if you don't know how it's possible, you should try to repair windows by refresh. It's a long shot, but i had a similar problem, i could not use PPPoE service because my friend unwillingly did something wrong on his laptop. I had to refresh windows to repair the network card driver and finally configure PPPoE service on his laptop.
So... refresh?
