Well I recommend you rooting the phone, you can find the instructions on CyanogenMod wiki, you could go thru this steps:
Root the HTC Dream
* Rooting - HTC Dream
...Install an SPL
* Installing DangerSPL
Then in the rom part use one of the suggested in this forum, you could see the Rom BIble, theres everything explained (visuals, speed, battery life, etc..).
*Edit:
Also doing this will wipe your phone, so if you dont have any important stuff on it its the best option...

Ok, I recently got a Black G1 from a friend and he said it was rooted and everything, but the multi touch and the auto-rotate dont work, and neither does the autorotate sideways keyboard. He told me it had all of that stuff, but I am trying to figure out if I have not done something right or what. Heres the info:
Model- T-Mobile G1
Firmware Version - 1.5
Baseband Version: 62.505.20.17h_2.22.19.26I
Kernel version - [email protected] #2
Build Number - CRB43
I want to just format and reload if possible, because it seems to be running very slow to some of the ones that I have seen. Any help or information is greatly appreciated.
You have a custom JF rom and the newest radio. So yes, you're rooted. However, root doesnt guarantee autorotate and multitouch. Those are things that are *possible* but are rom dependent. Check out the dev section, find a rom that suits your needs and flash it.
Hi all,
I currently have an unlocked HTC G1 which I bought from eBay. I am on the o2 network. o2 do not sell the HTC G1 therefore, even with a dataplan, I am not recieving OTA updates. So, for a few days now, I have searched google inside out for ways to get my G1 up to 1.6 which I am aware is the latest and final OS for the HTC G1.
I have gone from: 1.0 to 1.1 to 1.5 (CRB17) to 1.5 (CRB43) to 1.5 (CRC1).
Now, I am completely stuck as to where to go next. I am aware that the UK OS 1.6 update is called DRC92. I have found CRC1 to DRC92 NO WHERE. I have even read I have to go from CRC1 to CRC37 to DRC92, but I also cannot find CRC1 to CRC37 anywhere. I HAVE however found CRC37 to DRC92. Which is of no help unless I have the build CRC37 on my phone.
I am aware that this post looks confusing with all the build numbers, but I am sure someone out there HAS done this update from 1.0 to 1.6 on their UK G1 manually. I am prepared to start again from 1.0 (with the help of flashing) if someone has a guide which takes a different route.
I hope there is someone out there who can help, and I await a reply.
Thank you all,
Neel
You best bet is to follow one of the many guides to rooting the phone, then you can just download the latest update from one of the many superb dev's here and install it.
For example my UK G1 is running a eclair rom at the moment, and I have not had to wait for tmobile to finally roll it out.
Just follow this, works for all dreams excluding rogers

First of all I would like to say sorry for the pretty noob question, but I can't seem to find complete information about this. I am using Cyan 5.0.6-N1 ROM and am having problems with my BT connection to my headset. I have checked the headset against other phone and it seems the problem is with my N1. I was considering updating my radio version, since I know from winmo experience that the radio part is responsible for BT, WiFi, 3G signal etc.
The question is how to upgrade the radio ROM, since I couldn't find a pretty clear procedure (yes, i looked on xda, as well as google) and some compatibility list. As far as I understood, the worst one can do about N1 is to upgrade the ROM to an incorrect version against the SPL installed. This can brick your phone, according to this thread.
When looking in my N1 at settings, I can see:
baseband version: 32.24.00.22U_4.03.00.21_2
kernel: 2.6.33.2-cyanogenmod
mod version: CyanogenMod-5.0.6-N1.
I assume the baseband version contains the radio version, at least this is my understanding. How do I know what other radio version I can install in order not to brick my N1 and, hopefully, solve my BT problem?
thanks,
ionutz6
PS. If you think this has been answered already, a simple link to the solution is enough for me.
Download this RADIO
Place it on your SDCARD
Reboot into recovery and flash the zip file... reboot phone and you're done.
I saw that newer radio and I decided to flash after reading this thread and when the phone rebooted it went to an screen that showed a box with an arrow and a little android, the phone then rebooted and went straight the recovery menu.
Then I wipe cache, dalvik and battery starts and rebooted the phone one more time after that and the phone started normally. (Got scared at first when I caw the box and the Android)
Thanks a lot!!
I recently nearly bricked my US g1 when modding it due to SdCard issue (midway through flashing SD became unreadable). I have also had mny issues with the SD and a few keys which are testy...So I unrooted to send back to manufacturer. Turns out the SD card issues were fixed going back to stock and I can deal with the keys issue. Longer story short I was at stock with:
DREA100 PVT

0.95.0000 - HBOOT
CPLD - 4
Baseband 62.33.20.08H_1.22.12.29

I manually updated my G1 because i waited three days for any OTA and needed my phone functional, Currently i'm at 1.6.
I'd like to update my SPL and radio and I have done the research... The only tutorial I could find that was as close to my case was for someone using a korean phone. I realize this is the part that could F my phone so I wanted to be as careful as possible. Another tut I found (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=636945) starts off saying flash this 1.33.2005 SPL then someone immediatly says "For god sakes don't flash that SPL" So you can imagine my reasons for caution.
You guys have been great in the past and I appreciate any help. If I missed my exact sit on another post i'm sorry, understand I did search for two days but never found EXACTLY the same situation.
Before you go off updating SPL/radio, you might want to read these guide. Especially if you are going to start loading the custom ROMs.
[Guide] Root G1 stock 1.6/1.5 to 2708/2825 + 0013d and everything in between
How-to- Root, Hack, and Flashing your G1/Dream Read first!!
OK here it is. My G1 is currently on version. 1.0 (RC29) stock recovery as well. i have been scanning the forums here and keep finding info with broken links and pages that say they are out dated. Can someone here post me a few links to some current info on rooting and installing a froyo rom (gingerbread was too laggy) the part that seems to get me lost is all the radio, spl, and recovery menu options out there and after 3 attempts at rooting and installing a new rom last night all i could get the phone to do was hang at the g1 screen. so now im back to stock on the phone and will wait on some help before i attempt this again. I used this site to root and hack back when i used the phone for PSFreedom, but it wasnt as cluttered with info overload.
The phone is:
T-Mobile G1 US
Firmware 1.0
PS I already installed Telnet but thats as far as I have gone. And if you can point me to a Froyo rom that is stable and runs without lag I would really appreciate it. Thanks.
ok this guide is easy to follow... [Guide] (8-18-11) G1 How-to: Root, Un-Root & Everything in-between
just folow instructions and i will help you along the way if you need it
ok i did the wipes and everything in the first step but when i get to the google sign in screen the phone shows no signal (usually 4 bars where i am) so i cant get past the google screen to do the next step.
wait you said you were on 1.0 already? so which file did you flash the update.zip? and you cant sign on..?
thats just the update to 1.5 so im not sure why you would have no signal...
no idea either its rooted though i have tried a few roms so far.
GINGERBREAD-DS-Beta-20110716 (hangs at G1 Screen)
cos-ds =07182011 (makes it as far as the bluish android logo and then loops)
will the 1.5 update work with the hboot0013d and the 2708 radio?
when i flashed the 1.5 update (as in the guide) it made it to the google sign in screen and wouldnt let me by, so i reflashed the 1.0 file and got my service back restarted the guide and skipped the 1.5 update the second time.
my fast boot info:

wait no that dont make sense... lol are you trying to root your device?
if you have 28.28 and 0013d than you are rooted and should be good to flash roms.. all you need is to make sure your sdcard is properly formatted and partitioned lol
some roms require an ext4 partition... if you have amonra recovery than go to partition sd options.. choose partition sd and set swap to 96mb and ext to 512mb.. than upgrade ext2 to ext3 than upgrade ext3 to ext4.. than wipe all data, cache, system than flash a rom..
I did all the steps i managed to get it rooted but with the specs of hboot and radio i tried 5-6 roms and none booted up i even tried the SenseLX one with MTD and without, and never made it past the G1 screen i have even gone back to rc29 a few times and started over. this last attempt i decided to just got to 1.6 so i did the upgrades for that (unrooted) and when i hit 1.5 i lost all cell signal again, went to 1.6 and still didnt have it now im back to 1.0 again. im lost on what could be going on.
so your saying you had radio 28.25 and hboot 0013d and you couldn't get the roms to boot?
and that you cant get a cell signal?
-for the rom issue i think it may be your sd card...
-for the signal issue you might need a new sim card... you can get them replaced for free at a tmobile store..
New SD card and sim in phone and attempting this again... ill keep you posted on any progress if any.
This is a regular US T-mobile branded G1, not a unbranded or Asian, model?
If you are still having these issues, and starting from any Engineering SPL, you might try the orange-1.58.73.2.nbh file over here.
It updates radio/hboot/kernel/system all at once, in a known working set.
You can change the French over to English, but might need to know a bit of French to find the setting, and I even kept it on a phone for my kids to play with (no sim) just to run some apps via wifi.
Then if you get REALLY stuck again with updating, just flash back to the orange NBH, it is much easier then going all the way back to RC29 and rooting again.
