[Q] Google Voice app not working on Rogers/Fido 3G - Captivate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I have the Captivate GalaxyS (Android) on Fido
I have noticed recently my Google voice app has stopped working over the 3G network, when I connect to wifi it works fine.
I use the app for visual voicemail, and not for calling.
If you are on 3G make sure you sign out and sign back in, for some reason the app works over wifi but not 3G
Any one experiencing this? could it be possible that Rogers/Fido is blocking the google voice app?

Froyo turns of 3G when on Wifi

As the title says, when my Nexus One is connected to a Wifi network it turns off 3G. Which makes since to save battery. I'm in Japan, and use Softbank as my carrier. Softbank does not use 2G for voice, but only 3G for voice and HSPA(+) for data.
So I am unable to receive voice calls while on Wifi...I thought about using Google Voice as a workaround but it still does not support re-routing non-U.S. phone numbers.
Any ideas? I hope custom ROMS such as Cyanogenmod fix this.
Thanks,
Brandon

WOW that stinks. i think that the best thing todo is wait for the source being released and than make a request.
I get 3g when I'm on wifi...
Change your phone settings to WCDMA only.
*#*#4636#*#*
it doesnt turn 3g off, it just removes the 3g icon from next to your signal meter. but you still have hsdpa connection if you go into settings and check. is this what you mean?
uhhh that doesnt sound right... you should still have your 3g voice connection even on wifi...
Yes, the 3G icon goes away when connected to WiFi.
I just tried it again, and it worked. I don't know why it didnt the other times I tried to call from it, and tried calling to the phone,
Thanks

[Q] Getting Unlock to work on Tmobile P1000 Galaxy Tab

Okay, here goes! First post here, and hopefully a useful one for others.
The prerequisite info:
T-mobile Galaxy Tab flashed to GT-P1000
Firmware Version 2.2
Baseband version T959TLJL3_ROTO-2G / w/ switch: T849UVJJB_ROTO3G
Kernel version 2.6.32.9 [email protected] #1
Build number FROYO.XXJME
I purchased this Gtab stock, and went through Rotohammers tutorial for using the tablet as a phone while still retaining 3g capabilities of a data plan. I think I got all of that working correctly but can't verify it as I don't have a T-mobile sim card with data. (verified voice calling does work on the Tab on T-mobile)
I have since then installed Sipdroid and Google Voice with a PBXes trunk so that I can make free wifi calls using Google Voice to/from anywhere with wifi, or on 3g. All that is working great. ....BUT....
I thought the Gtab was unlocked with Roto's firmware, but I found out it wasn't when I inserted my AT&T based sim card (Actually "Consumer Cellular") It was saying "enter network lock control key" on startup with that sim installed.
I found an unlocking app in the market called Galaxy_S Unlock and went through the steps to unlock the Gtab for my AT&T card and it will not make or receive calls. In the settings it shows my phone number for the sim card, and has the IMEI # and such, but no worky. I'm wondering if there is a conflict in the settings of the device with Google Voice and/or SipDroid? All of those use the dialer app that the Euro firmware has on it... I can make Wifi calls with the dialer, but when I disconnect the wifi it doesn't connect the call. It all closes down as if the call ended. Any help on this, or do I NEED to remove the Sipdroid app or could there be some APN issues? BTW data doesn't work either on the sim card in either 2g or 3g modems that I used from Roto. I know I will probably have to use a different AT&T modem for the 3g, but the 2g one should work, right?
Update: Okay, got 2g data to work after going in and changing the APN settings for Consumer Cellular (AT&T). It still closes the dialer app when I try to make a voice call with the wifi disconnected. On the 3g modem it only gets Edge network just like the 2G setting. I'm going to try uninstalling Google Voice and see what happens.
Hooray, problem fixed... at leat partially!
Okay, uninstalling Google Voice fixed the problem. Now I need to figure out how to keep my free Wifi calling capabilities while still having Google Voice installed. Any ideas?
Problem solved!
Okay, got EVERYTHING working now with the exception of the correct modem for 3g on AT&T. I went back through and re checked my data settings, reinstalled google voice and now everything works as it should. When wifi is available my calls use wifi and when there isn't wifi it uses my sim cards cellular service. I just need the 3g modem for AT&T and I'll be set. I had to set up Google Voice so that it would prompt me to either use or not use GV to make the call and now everything is perfect. Free wifi calls on my Gtab and now a back up phone if my current one craps out. Yay!
great to hear that.
Now you might want to read the success story here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1258782&highlight=850mhz
But you have a T-Mobile tab there. Not sure if flashing AT&T modem works for it.
Let us know if you are successful.
You won't get 3g. If you use JK3 modem on t-mobile tab you will get good voice, EDGE data. You won't need the modem switch.

[Q] Wi-Fi Calling

Hi, I know most of you guys are aware that the Moto X doesn't support T-Mobile Wi-Fi calling natively. What are some workarounds you may have to use Wi-Fi calling? I need this feature since my service is abysmal at home. Are there any suggestions? My theory is using Hangouts Dialer, but there's not much of a hand off like native Wi-Fi calling for me.
Someone on Google+ asked this same question on the T-Mobile page and the answer was no, that there are no plans to get the moto X on Wi-Fi calling at this time, but to keep checking or some BS like that.
T-Mobile does offer a signal booster, not the Wi-Fi router for Wi-Fi calling, but a cellular booster. You might want to call and look into that.
For the mean time, there is free "wifi calling" service like Google voice now know as hangouts. There are others but that is the best one i can recommend to use for the mean time.
There's word that T-Mobile is working with Google to get wifi-calling on the nexus phone(s), but I wouldn't hold my breathe. You're best alternative is like the above poster suggested and use google voice for calling.

[Q] Google Voice not working ?

Has anyone found that they cannot setup Google Voice to work ?
Even though my voicemail provider is set as google Voice, I'm still getting calls sent to the default T-Mo voicemail.
I've looked in the Verizon S6 threads, and smeone mentioned turning off VOLTE, but VOLTE is already turned off.
Anyone else having issues ?
Works fine for me but I originally set it up on my previous phone not sure if that matters or not. The only negative thing that happened with voice on this phone so far was one voicemail without a notification.
I've found my voicemail gets routed over to T-Mobile's app. Not really sure how to get it working right again. I too will be interested in seeing if others have a solution
Sent from my SM-G920T using XDA Premium HD app
Go to their website and follow the inductions for your carrier to set up call forwarding

Texting over WiFi?

I have the verizon variant of the Note 9 and I can't seem to figure out how to enable texting over WiFi. Is it possible and if so how do I get it working? The only setting I've really found was WiFi calling and I've enabled that to no avail.
Edit: I discovered that it works with verizon's Message+ it works just fine, and while I don't prefer it to samsung's message app it'll do for now.
