For some reason, my Handcent app will at least once per day display its release notes when opened as if I just installed it, and any changes I made to its settings will be reset. This is particularly annoying because I use custom notification tones for different contacts & for new texts in general. What could be the issue? It's not set to autoupdate.

App updates through the market don't mess with your saved data/app settings, so that's probably not it. The next time it happens, uninstall/reinstall the app and see if that helps. Do this through the market, not from a Titanium Backup batch or anything similar. Also, I believe Handscent has an option to back up all of your user settings. The next time you have to reconfigure everything, make a backup of your settings. At the very least, it will save you a hell of a lot of time until you figure out what the problem is.

I reinstalled it like you suggested. I also tried reinstalling via EasyUninstaller. Neither fixed the problem.
Also, to backup the settings, you have to be a premium user.
The only thing I can think that would have affected the app is I installed a custom theme for it. It wasn't a theme from within the app itself, but a mod a user had made to change the keyboard color and some other things. I thought I had uninstalled it, though. I installed it via AppsInstaller with the apk being on my sd card. I'll try to find the thread I got the apk from.
OK, here it is: http://www.droidforums.net/forum/team-fusion/34058-release-themed-handcent.html
What Rom are you running? Stock Captivate or ?. Some roms cause this issue, resets the app (s) for some reason. I've had the issue on a few other apps but not handcent. I also registered the app, might make a difference.

I'm running Darkys 7.0.1 port, if you've heard of it. It's VERY nice on appearance and battery life, but this problem just sucks!
Would registering it fix the problem? I don't want to pay $3 just to remove the ad bar.
There is a free registration. Not sure if that will fix the problem but hell, it's free and saves your settings.
I have restored handcent using TiBu for at least the last 10 rom flashes, app + data and never had a problem, just did it this morning when going to Perception 9.5, and every things is working fine, logged in and it restored all my theme settings, preferences, etc.
That's with the free registration. Quote from them " Register free handcent account, get online quicktext and online themes services"
Other thing is, are you running the latest update? Every update has always fixed any issue I was having with the program.
Saw this: "with the new version of Handcent just released and it seems to break handcent even after resigning the app. " From the link you posted.
I have flashed a few times before trying Andromeda 2.0. I was really impressed with the reviews I've seen for Andromeda so I wanted to try it out.
I flashed back to stock using ODIN. I then backed up my apps and user data via Titanium. I flashed to Andromeda and had no problems at all initially. I went to restore all my apps and user data and then rebooted the phone. Immediately I started having a flood of Force Closes. I reflashed the ROM and tried restoring only my apps... seemed to work fine, Then I restored my user data one at a time and everything was OK till I got to my contacts, then rebooted and started getting Force Closes. It seemed to me that it was Swype that was Force Closing constantly.
I reflashed the ROM again and haven't restored anything and I'm fine now. I had Phoenix Rising 3.5 on the phone before I went to Andromeda, is there anything known that Andromeda might not like as a setting or user data coming from Phoenix Rising and if so is there a way around this whilst keeping my user data and settings?
I really am impressed with this ROM and would choose it as a day to day ROM if I was able to get all my settings back. For now I'm going back to Phoenix Rising but if anyone has any thoughts I'd appreciate it. Also, if the Andromeda devs see this I'd be happy to help with any experimenting or debugging to try and help them improve the ROM further.
Thanks!
your problem is that you restored ALL APPS AND USER DATA
go into Tibu, menu, batch, and RESTORE MISSING APPS AND DATA

Thanks, I'm trying that now...
Edit: So I did that and I've got my apps back but none of my user data (contacts, call history etc) came back...
Ok. I've been plugging away at this all day... I'm not sure what's going wrong. If I do "Restore Missing" I get all my apps for sure, but I get none of my settings such as contacts, wireless access points etc. If I restore contacts I start to get force closes and yet I am unable to open my contacts... Any ideas?

is there some reason you dont use google to sync your contacts so you dont have to worry about stuff like that?
i have an exchange account and a gmail, i never lose my contacts, and i dont have to restore them, just log in.
as far as using TiBu to restore those items, if they are green in the backup/restore section, they should be ok to restore data only...
Yeah google syncs my contacts but not all my phone contacts for some reason... It's odd that I couldn't get that to work. Andromeda is such am impressive ROM, but I had to switch back to Phoenix if I wanted to see my contacts... I'll give it a shot with another revision perhaps... Thanks for trying to help out.

did you by chance find any fix for this? i am having the same issue.. did the restore missing apps + data and then went in and loaded my backup of contacts and sms and the other ones that were in green and after reboot, constantly getting the swype fc.. and i cant go into my contacts.. did you just have to re do the flash and reload the backup again? and just sync with google and not have your contacts?
Ultimately that's what I would have had to do but since I'm on call this weekend and need my work contacts that didn't sync through google I had to revert to Phoenix 4.0 for the time being. I read over on android central's forum there might be a solution but I haven't had a chance to get clarification and try it yet.

I own a nexus one, and after upgrading to gingerbread, some applications which are installed such as dolphin browser and soundhound are installed but are not listed as installed on the market and thus I don't get update notifications for them.
I tried to clear data on the market app to re sync the installed apps but it had been disabled on gingerbread
Can anyone shed some light please?
Thanks in advance,
Mark Cachia

Do they at least appear on the market?
Yes, I even re-installed the apps, still not showing in my apps though.

You might be able to use Titanium Backup's "Market Doctor" function to re-establish the application links to the Market, though I believe that requires root.
Give it some times, they'll probably come back on it's own.
If not use Market Doctor like suggested, that might or might not solve it.
It has happened to me here and there and usually fix itself.
Another thing you can try is download an app, any app (something free that can be delete afterward) and see if that bring the missing apps back.
In continuation to the minor problems with my new IS, the first being Bluetooth transfers restarting the phone, (here-http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1071021);
another issue am having is with respect to apps in the my apps section of market which allows updated.
Since this is a new phone, i had some apps transferred from other handsets and installed, rather than downloading them all over again.
None of the apps are showing in market to update, not a single one!
i have read about this in other posts, where clearing the cache seems to solve the problem, but it does not help in my case.
any idea why this could be happening & any possible solutions?
The only solution i think is a firmware update...
Depending on the apps, they may not be compatible with 2.2, what are they?

Regular apps like astro, angry birds, barcode scanner.
just a few off the top of my head.
the apps do work, and if there is an update available, the app prompts for the same when opened.
however, in the last tab of market, which displays all the installed apps & those which have an update, not even a single app is shown except google maps...
Are you rooted?

could you be so kind to dump your build.prop?
it sounds it got fked on some way...
@dfd9999
Nope, no root, no changes what so ever.
Stock IS
@Hawkysoft
errr... could you kindly explain how i should do that?
Titanium Back up can fix market links… but I believe you have to be rooted for it to work but I may be wrong, its worth a shot!

just uninstall the last app you got from the market.
if the method from lgm_dev is not working:
try to clear data/cache from the market. Settings->apps->manage->(tab all)-> market and clear the data there
Index should be rebuilded when it is started again.
IncS is my first Android phone and i have just got Root access. But after i flashed a new Rom and log on to Android Market with my Google account, there is only the apps i have paied for, and not all the free apps i have downloaded befor the flash.
Is it realy only the paied apps it rembers?
Ok so after months of trying to figure out how to get facebook and twitter for lg off of this phone, I figured it out. My revo is rooted and I have cwm with the decrapped rom from thecubed. The actual apk file is called sns.apk (short for social networking service). I backed it up, then froze the app using titanium backup. Voila! No more facebook or twitter for lg. I don't know if anyone else has figured this out, but I thought I would share
SWEETTTTTT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Most Excellent find. This should go in the list of useful apps to freeze. Great!!
Any non-rooted solutions??

I really doubt it, but is there a way to remove or freeze apps if your phone isn't rooted? Also, can't you just uninstall the apps instead freezing them? Or does that cause a problem somehow?
Thanks! I was wondering what SNS was...frozen now!

You can uninstall them.. but freezing to me is better.. if we do get the gingerbread update and you are still pretty stock with some frozen apps, you can un freeze and then do the update and you should be fine.. much easier than uninstalling the app and then having to reinstall them.
I noticed after reflashing decrapped 1.1 the facebook for lg icon came back and it also showed up as an option for sharing a pic. I looked in titanium backup and it said it was still frozen, when I hit unfreeze it said apk file not found, so I hit uninstall. That was successful, then I flashed mtmichaelsons revolt rom and since he hasnt gotten bluetooth working on it I reflashed again back to decrap 1.1. The icons came back and I went to tibu again. I hit restore and it said it was successful, but then the icons disappeared. I don't really care if this program is deleted permanently from the phone, but I am wondering why it keeps popping up like that and why it's acting like that in tibu. Not a major issue for me, just odd
