[Q] Profile pics aspect ratio - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everyone,
There's a really annoying problem with the Samsung contacts provider (which isn't present in vanilla Android). The placeholder for the picture is square, and thus the profile pictures get squashed into 1:1 aspect ratio, instead of being cropped.
The problem isn't evident on Google contacts, since the Google profile pics come in a 1:1 aspect ratio originally. Facebook, however, has two profile pics per person - the full-size one, which is usually not square, and the small, cropped one (the one that appears on the wall posts, etc.). Samsung contacts app takes the uses the full-sized pictures. But since it doesn't know how to crop them, it just squeezes them into squares instead, which looks awful.
Anyone has a solution to that? In Vanilla messaging app which I use, the picture looks fine - it's not cropped and not squeezed, it just doesn't take up the whole square. Same goes for Dialer One. But I want to use the Samsung dialer, as well as Samsung Contacts - and they distort the pictures.

[Q] Hi-Res contacts pictures, like on the Galaxy tab?

Just seen the video of galaxy ta. could we not use the phone app from that in some way. It has larger contact pictures and video call feature. Our galaxy s pictures when we call suck big time. All burry low res and small and i kinda like the white background from the tab too. What you guys think?

does anyone know a way to improve the quality and increase the size of the contact pictures?
If yours contacts in Google contacts, then you make new Contact in the Phone memory.
Only name + picture, after that you should to link phone mem contact to same google contact.
Phone memory contact has priority:
1. you will see better picture
2. you can change the ring too
cons:
- you have to duplicate all google contacts to phone memory (name + better pic)
Yeah, I guess the only way to have high res images is to have them locally .
P.S Video calling is already available on SGS. Interface is not as nice as in Tab but it works.

[Q] contact photo for hangout

I noticed when I get a message on hangouts the photo on the watch is pixelated. Is there a way to fix that? When i get calls the contact photo on the watch is fine so not sure why the hangouts photo looks pixelated.
No fix currently. Its pulling pictures from the phone notification (not the same as contact picture)... since notification pictures are much smaller, their resolution is much lower. There is currently no fix Hopefully their will be.

XZ2 and Lightroom

Has anyone tried to import the XZ2 photos to Lightroom? I'm having lots of problems. It seems for some photos it may have lost the 16:9 aspect ratio? Hard to reproduce, since the latest system update a few days ago it doesn't seem to happen anymore. Not sure if I'm going insane or if it really happened.
Then there's another elephant in the room: Lightroom Classic CC seems unable to read the date tag in the EXIF data? Never had this issue before with any camera I've ever used. But other programs can read the EXIF data? It's all very odd. Photo orientation seems to be interpreted wrongly too.
Am I the only one having issues? Now I'm using a third party tool to rename the files according to the EXIF data.
Btw., it's very annoying that every time you move all photos to your computer the counter is being reset... I know few cameras that behave that way. For good reason.
Switch to 4:3
Then you get 19MP
16:9 has only 12MP or 17MP
It's not that easy. With 16:9 you get a wider image, with 5500 pixels instead of 5000. So in scenes where you want to capture as much of a landscape (for example) as possible you'll absolutely benefit from 16:9. Also, the MP don't really matter. I wish the sensor had a lower resolution.
I've found the solution to some of my issues... Lightroom has problems when it keeps importing files of the same name, and the XZ2 keeps resetting the counter to 1...

Camera & Live Photo

The LG V40 ThinQ has a Live Photo mode similar to later iPhones. That photo is about 9 frames of video with sound and 1 picture. There are a few things I can't figure out though.
A. Is the photo 9 frames at full resolution, with audio tacked on.
or is it 1 frame + a small connected movie
B. Can I edit this off-phone, can I peel out all the frames and pick the best one, or edit/use the video portion elsewhere.
There are a few things I have done so far, that are not satisfying my needs.
save to video, or screen cap in the phone, both provide terrible results.
using the "in-phone" saved video outside the phone, also terrible.
Any help would be appreciated
Did you manage to solve the live photo problem? I am looking for a solution for finding and making copies of photos that were made in live photo (visible in the gallery when browsing but not saved an mp4). I sent this question to LG technical support but so far I have no answer.

Problem with snapchat app

I've just bought k20 pro and I noticed the snapchat camera is always zoomed in compared to stock or google camera, is there a way to fix that or am I missing something, because I use snapchat camera way more than stock one and the picture quality in that suffers due to zoom issue
Snapchat does not works well in an android because of lots of other android phones with different screen sizes, chipsets, cameras, etc and the its is not actually zoomed it is stretched due to full screen aspect ratio and quality is **** than stock camera all you can do is use filters or buy an iphone

Click to collapse
It's all because external apps in android don't use hardware camera implementation, instead they are using preview from recording view. There is no way for you to fix it, but app developers can just change implementation. Hovewer they won't probably do it, as there are too much different devices running android.
It's not zoomed in. Keep in mind that you're comparing 4:3 to something like 16:9 to 18:9. It cuts off the sides, which makes it look like it's zoomed in, but it's not.
Nothing can be done. Snapchat, Instagram etc uses the screen capture of the view finder,so the quality of the pics will be trash. To get optimized and good results go for iPhone.(any variant)
