[Q] How to reflash stock keyboard on CM6? - Hero CDMA Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I recently rooted and installed cm6 on my Hero.
Everything worked great and I loved it.
Then I flashed Droid Multitouch Keyboard(to try it out) without doing a Nand First.
Now there is no keyboard..everytime I click on a text area no keyboard pops up.
How do I reflash and start over? Or is there a way to flash the stock keyboard?

Long press on a text field and select input method. See if that helps. If not, there are multiple threads on the themes board that have HTC ime keyboards. All of Impaler's themes have custom keyboards.

Auto-Rotate /w Messages [Hero]

Hm, flashed a few different Hero ROMs and one thing that seems consistant across them all is the fact that I can't get them to auto-rotate when I'm in a message. Obviously, the normal user wouldn't care about this issue since the only need to auto rotate would be for the soft keyboard usage. BUT, my spacebar is broken somehow and I -need- the soft keyboard until I can get a new G1. Am I the only one experiencing the no auto-rotate in messages issue? I didn't have this with any 1.5 ROMs (Went from JF - > Cyanogens), but all the Hero ones seem to have this. Anyone know of a fix? I tried searching the forums to no avail - assuming my search query may've been too broad :\

They are two different Mms.apk files. I believe the new one has the autorotate, while the older version does not. These ROMs switch back and forth between them in difference versions because the older one doesn't have the messaging issues. So, if you can find one with the new Mms.apk, just push that over, and you should get your autorotate back. I don't know which ROMs have it, so you might have a hell of a time flashing unless you remember one that has it.

I was wondering the same thing because it's kinda annoying opening the keyboard everytime but I like a phone w/ physical kb but w/e so can I use the mms apk from the JF 1.51 cause I kno 4 sure that had auto rotate also can I put the hero keyboard on there and can I use terminal or can I just use a file manager like Linda ?Also can someone post the commands to push files through terminal Thanks
The JF1.51 is not a hero build, so the Mms.apk is the cupcake version, not the Hero version.

Install HTC Touch Keyboard to Moto Droid

Love the HTC keyboard, can anyone instruct me as to how to get the HTC keyboard on the Motorola Droid? TIA

As we are an HTC devices only forum you won´t get too much attention.

Good luck,
There are themed versions in Rom Manager. I use swype, so I never looked real hard for htc, but it's available for Droid.
Hero Keyboard (htc keyboard download)
Hi there, here is a download for the Hero keyboard, (which is the htc one, i havent actually tested it my self.
http://bit.ly/9daoNP
heres the notes on it from ShariarKuasa
It has no lag either and has phone keypad, full qwerty, and compact. But for some reason it only has t9 when texting and not in search option but still worth replacing the usual Keyboard. To install just download the zip file then extract and install the two apk's then go to settings>locale & text> then check the touch input then long press on the text box area till it says input then select touch input. (you have to install clicker apk and htc_ime apk for this to work).
It works on both root and non-root users.
I run jonasl's HTC_IME v19 on my Droid without any issue, it works great for me. It's a modified HTC_IME.
wow, telling him to go elsewhere and linking to weird megaupload files?
Here, go to the thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=624416 This is the modded version of the HTC keyboard that most of us use.
and if you want a custom themes version of it, you can go here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=654179
This is the latest jonas IME keyboard v.26 (HTC Keyboard), works perfect on my droid:

Does HTC_IME cause conflicts on G1?

I've read a lot about the HTC_IME keyboard on this forum and really want to install it on the G1, but I've read conflicting reports about it causing conflicts with the G1's physical keyboard. Is that true, or can some G1 owners confirm that the HTC virtual keyboard works without conflict?
NO i use it on cyanogen rom, first get the files needed onto your sd.Turn off android input in local, then use astro to install ime then the clicker.apk, finally goto settings->locale turn on new input setting, reboot.
I use it sometimes can be tricky to get in but it is some much better than stock.
it CAN cause conflicts, but they do work together well. i have an unthemed version of HTC_IME and i have them both turned on so that when the keyboard pops up, you see the android VK instead of the HTC_IME keyboard, and it still uses all the functions of the HTC_IME. (honestly i dont like the way the HTC_IME's keys look so cluttered with numbers and symbols, but i love the user-dictionary functions and such. )
Anyway right when i made the switch to donut i had a problem with it when i tried to calibrate the HTC_IME keyboard without having the clicker.apk installed, continuous loop of FC's of the HTC_IME and i had to go all the way back to cm-4.1.11.1 and then flash back to 4.1.99 THEN back to the latest to get everything back to normal again. but since then i havent had a single problem with it, and they both work perfectly together...

the only "conflict" i've had with HTC_IME and the physical keyboard was when i was typing on the physical keyboard, it made the sound it makes when i type on the VK. not sure that's really a conflict though.
The only problem I've encountered with the HTC IME on my G1 is that when I touch the screen with the keyboard open, the soft keyboard's suggestion thing comes up when I start typing again. It goes away once you close & open the physical keyboard, though.

Yup this and the one above is the "conflict" that is widely known. its more of an annoyance
Thanks all for the input. I've searched and read through a lot of threads on this forum about installing the HTC VK, but there seem to be a lot of different installation procedures out there.
What would be considered the safest/easiest procedure for someone who is a novice with modding Android?
I've modded phones before, but that was only flashing feature phones with generic unbranded firmware...I've never done anything with Android. In fact, I've never even plugged in my phone's USB cable. If someone could post or link to the best installation procedure for the HTC VK I'd appreciate it.
EDIT: I'm running the stock T-Mobile 1.6 ROM if that matters.
Download the files from this thread and use AppInstaller from the Market. I'm just going by what other ppl have said in that thread so I cant guarantee anything w/ that app, I used adb to install the IME on my phone.
*EDIT* Also, just found this: http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php/How_to_install_HTC_Keyboard.

That does sound annoying. Does the conflict go away if you go to Settings and switch back to the Android keyboard? Or is the issue there whenever the HTC VK is installed?
Yes it can be annoying when suggestions pop up when using the physical keyboard w/ HTC IME, just don't tap text entry fields when using HTC IME, use the trackball instead. Probablem solved. Just install it. You can go to settings > Locale and switch to the google IME whenever you want.

Only when HTC IME is enabled.
I got it installed and it's working beautifully!
Thanks to HTC for creating it, and to Cyanogen for making it available!

ya this is what i do. i like having this vk over any other vk because its accurate.... i dont always wanna open my phone lol.
I'm actually not having that problem. My issue is a little different.
Even though I have auto spelling correction enabled for the device keyboard, auto correction isn't actually working. This has been the case ever since I installed and switched to the HTC virtual keyboard.
Does anyone know a fix for this, or is this one of those things I'll have to live with?
what rom are you using it on?
This is the stock T-Mobile 1.6 ROM.
I have a 1.5 Dream & no prob with HTC_IME! Just looking to go up to 1.6 now!

Different Keyboard?

I've used Better Keyboard for a while, which isnt too great IMO. I was curious why no one has put newer android keyboards onto the Mytouch.
try droidx multi touch keyboard for mytouch
It depends on what kind of keyboard you want. Do you want to just tap out your words or do you want to slide your finger around to type?
I picked up the Droid x keyboard but am having no luck installing. I use Linda file manager and i make my way to /system/lib but it says folder is read only. I'm currently trying to root my Mytouch 3g with the OTA Froyo but having no luck using Superoneclick...keeps freezing at "waiting for device".
I wanted to use the defult htc keyboard. No offence goole but the.defult android kb sucks. Imo..using it rite now

If you want regular typing you'll have a hard time beating the stock, but I'm in love with slideIT (basically swype).
Just posted this elsewhere but I have always loved the HTC keyboard.
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=X1VCZKSA
There you go.
To get it working, you have to first install it from your sd card then go to local & text or whatever it is in settings and check the touch input box. Then goto something that has a text box and touch-hold and it will say input method then select touch input.
Hope you like it.
Swype is ok.I'm using it right now the so is kind of stupid..btw is dvds at download for froyo? I recently upgraded.

[Q] swype 3.6 problem

im on dlev's 4.2 and it comes with swype 3.6.
i dont know why but everytime im on swype other than the official rom's swype it wont let me add my own words. last time i was on cog5 v1.00 and serendipity 6.4 it worked flawlessly. any help on this sifus?
Type a word and tap on it in the auto complete.
Sent from my Captivate
it worked for two words when i type in and tap the words after in the dialogue box itself after that nothing happen
what i meant was i want to add my own words so that i am able to swype for the words some other time
That's how I've been adding words. Type, tap, and it offers me the option to tap again to add to the dictionary.
Sent from my Captivate
Well I'm not able to do that with the swype 3.6 for some reason. swype that comes with cog5 works perfectly on roms that uses the swype beta thingy, it's a no go for me
