So maybe I'm the only one in the world with an HD7 that can't be unlocked.
I bought one on Kijiji new in the box. I'm in Toronto and planned to use it on Wind Mobile. I read of others enjoying their unlocked T-Mobile HD7's. So I bought mine today, sold my old phone the same day and found out that my phone cannot be unlocked.
I have tried 4 different websites for unlocking and all failed. I called HTC and they said to speak to the carrier. The carrier said to get a plan with them and in 40 days I can have the code. Doesn't make much sense being that I don't live in the U.S. or within hours of their service areas.
Finally the sales person says to fax them a receipt and they can provide the code in 24 hours or 2 weeks if they don't have it in their database and have to retrieve it from HTC. I doubt I can get a receipt from the seller and I feel like I just spent $500 on a paper weight.
Anyone have any suggestions??
EDIT: mobileincanada.com surprisingly sent me an email last night saying they updated their database and if I re-ordered they could probably have the code for me in a few min. So I took another shot and they actually had one. I guess it could an updated database to solve the problem!!

Sorry:
http://pocketnow.com/windows-phone/microsoft-discusses-homebrew-app-support-for-windows-phone-7
you need to get someone that have t-mobile account to do it for you
Hey go on tmobile's website and go to the online chat help section and talk to someone there and just be kind and tell them the truth. I found that they are really helpful. Just tell the person u bought it from a tmobile store (dont say kiji) and that ur in canada and are not a tmobile customer. They'll understand. Im in canada and was thinking of doin what u did and buying one and then unlocking it so to be safe i talked to a tmobile rep b4 buying anythin and she was really understanding and told me she would unlock it for me after i purchased it( not sure if they wouldve kept their word since i havent bought mine yet)...
as long as you bought it at full retail, they should give you the unlock code. The 40 days only applies if you got it at a discount as a new line of service.
I was in the same situation, tried over 10 websites and none of them had the unlock code in their database. Luckly I was able to get the receipt from the seller and got T-Mobile to unlock the phone. Took T-Mobile less than 24 hrs to send me the code. Like the other poster said, try the T-Mobile online chat, they are very helpful.
Thats crazy.. was planning on picking up an HD7 to use on Wind soon in Toronto. Would be brutal if it can't be unlocked.
Did any of you guys who had problems try mobileincanada.com for the unlock code?

Yup tried mobileincanada.com, didn't work and got a refund.
Most of the sites claimed they should be able to unlock the phone in a few weeks when their databases are updated.
edit: What you could also do is bring a laptop with you when you buy the phone and check if the phone is unlockable here http://www.htcimeiunlock.com/check-imei.php
^man that really sucks.. you had tried 10 different sites? Also thanks for the tip on htcimeiunlock site.
So T-mobile was pretty helpful about the situation as long as you had the original receipt? good to know.. worse case i'll just go for a quick drive and pick one up.
I tried all the sites you all listed here and NONE of them worked. I even found some other site called UNLOCKINGONLINE.COM. They say claim to have access to some newer databases and recommend using a certain unlock option if you're phone is an HTC device manufactured after March or May 2010 I think it said. But it's a premium rate of $39.99 which of course they say they will refund if unsucessful.
Well I tried them as my last resort and guess what? I've had no response from them since last night and they promise a 5-30 min turnaround time on 99% of all unlocks.
So now I'm worrying about the 4 or 5 refunds I'm expecting for all the various unlocking sites I tried AND they guy I bought my HD7 from has decided to no longer respond to my messages. Maybe he knew I couldn't unlock it before hand and took my money and ran.
I guess my last option is the online chat with T-Mobile a few of you have suggested. Otherwise I'm just going to sell it and let someone else figure out how to unlock it.
I tried the online T-Mobile chat and they said unless I bought it right from T-Mobile and have a receipt they will not unlock it for me.
Can anyone offer some advice on either what I can say to them or perhaps if one of you are an existing T-Mobile client you could offer me some assitance??
I'd hate to have to get rid of it now
Hopefully with some time these databases for unlocking will get updated?
I'm close to buying one off something through kijiji in toronto as well.. he just dropped the prices recently, really hope its not the case where the phone cannot be unlocked. Considering I only see one guy selling in toronto I don't think I should take the chance.

Just a heads up the only guy on Kijiji is the guy I bought mine from yesterday. He got back to me now and says he doesn't have retail receipts as he buys from a wholesaler. He says he'll see if there is anything he can do for me.
EDIT:
Here's for anyone else having Sim unlocking problems but can actually get the sales receipt. I just got this in my email:
Unlock Code: Waiting For FAX - MSRP
Thank you for taking the time to contact T-Mobile. At this time, we will need a copy of the original sales receipt to be faxed into the SIM Unlock Team showing full retail purchase price was paid for the equipment. The fax number is 813-353-6557. Your request will be placed in pending status for 7 business days to allow time for processing. Please include the following information with the fax.
" ATTN: SIM Unlock Team
" Remedy Form#
" Customer's Full Name
" Contact number
" Customer's Email Address (optional)
" Copy of the original sales receipt showing the Full Retail Purchase Price of the handset.
Thank You,

Yup, was talking to him as well, and he mentioned someone bought one and is unable to unlock it. Really sucks, wanted to grab this phone, but going to wait I guess if there's really an unlocking issue right now.

Well I would still buy one IF you weren't in a rush to set it up and didn't mind possibly waiting for a couple weeks for the code. Just don't do what I did and get rid of your current phone with expectations the new one will be up and running in minutes..
If the Kijiji guy did buy in bulk, maybe you can ask him to use http://www.htcimeiunlock.com/check-imei.php to check if the rest of his phones are unlockable and if it is try asking for an exchange.

Well I should probably mention that after he got back to me today about my issues he did promise to go home tonight to see if the other one he had left was unlockable immediately. And if it was he assured me he would let me switch mine for that one. So perhaps that's why he didn't answer you, not sure.
But once I'm out of options and anyone wants mine (that's willing to wait of course) you're welcome to buy it from it me.
I'm going to try taking a walk around here at lunch for fun and see if any of these guys on Yonge St. can unlock it.
^Thats true, he doesn't have it with him so can't check now. He's been a nice guy though, and that's cool if he can let you swap it if its unlockable.

t-mobile will unlock it for free.
how I do that?
how T-Mobile can unlock my phone? cuz when I buy the phone don't have any sim card so I don`t know which is the operator. when I turn on the pda the screen show me a question about a code... I DON`T KNOW WHAT IT IS.
I try with 1234 and 12345678 and NOTHING is locked again and I have to wait a several minutes for try again and that sucks!!!!

Your best bet if T-Mo won't cough up an unlock code, you may have to check out a service for it. There's plenty of places that can unlock ur fone for a price... it's definitely worth it. Just search around

Just call up T-Mo and tell them you are traveling overseas and need to unlock your phone. They'll give you some sort of code you type in.
Correct me if I¡m wrong. You are from Latin America, so you bought your Wing on Ebay or something alike. If that's correct and as T-Mo does not have service in LAmerica, there's no chance to request them the unlock code because the phone is no longer binded to a T-Mo account. It's kind of odd it was not originally unlocked (I got mine through Ebay and I'm LAmerican too). At this point mi advice would be to take it to a tech shop and have it unlocked. It won't be expensive and once unlocked works really great!!

Hehe, I guess I just had a sales chimp try n sell me. When I called in to get my code. The broad would ask me the question all the time "why don't you want to be in our network" or "want to start an account?" Eventually I had to get crunk with her and say "because I don't want to... 1st amendment " She then asked if I had a t-mobile SIM card in the phone and I told her "no" coz i didn't. She then proceeded to tell me "you have to be a customer with us for 6 months before we can give you an unlock code"
Perhaps I should have been a little more persistent but oh well. I may have had to pay 10 bucks but I got what I wanted in the end hehe
In my case... I no longer have t-mobile service, and haven't had it for a good 6 months or so. My current phone (samsung eternity) has a mic that is going lame that they won't cover - and I always liked my old Wing better anyway. I got excited when I pulled it out and downloaded a new rom for it- and with my new data plan I could actually use IM! Unfortunately I discovered that the phone is not unlocked, contrary to what they told me when I bought it off of ebay...
It's ridiculous that I'd have to pay money to use a piece of hardware that I already own. Why are carriers even allowed to sim-lock phones in the first place? Isn't locking the Average Joe into a 2-year contract enough?
But I digress. After reading all these threads with frustrated regulars and whiny newbies, I guess it's either pay to unlock or get myself a new phone, eh..

Thats why i dont buy phones off of Ebay and really does it hurt that much to pay some extra $ to sim unlock ur phone? anyways sim-lokcing the phones was so that other carriers wouldnt use that device but now...pretty much all carriers have the same hTC device but to there own customized verisons of that certain device

If you got your Phone through O2 in the UK, just call them, they don't usually charge for unlocking. Tell them you need to put a work sim in it and it a different provider.
+1 for htcimeiunlock.com
On the site they let you put in your info including carrier, model, and IMEI. They then tell you if they have the unlock code, and if so and how much it costs and how long it will take.
In my case it said 15 minutes and $25. I paid with paypal and about 15 minutes later the unlock code arrived in email. The code worked and my phone is now unlocked.
I will use them in the future.
Worked for me
used the link above and it just worked (no issues, Just be sure you provide the correct IMEI or you may have a problem) use IMEI from the device not your box (I have seen issues where they do not always match).
Cheers

I used the site above but it says it can't find a code when I input my IMEI.
Help please!!!
Will that website provide an unlock code for ANY hd7 that's locked to tmobile? because i'm thinking of getting one to canada and i wont be able to return it so i have to make sure that it can be unlocked!!
I bought mine from a nice guy through Kijiji in Toronto... HTC HD7 (T-Mobile branded) and he even had unlock code. If you post an ad there, I'm sure he'll respond. Make sure you put it in the "want to buy" section and make sure the subject line has HTC HD7 Unlock Code Wanted. It's the least I can do to send you to him as he was very fast and effecient and affordable.

I'll give that a try if cellunlock fails. How much was it and did he e-mail the code?
I used www.cellunlocker.net on both my HD7's. codes arrived in about 25-30 mins and only cost 19.99
-oh both are the tmobile branded, tested with other sim cards, and works.
The kijiji dude was $20 but I was also buying the phone from him. He gave me the code on paper. Try the other suggested website first.

Yup, I doubled, tripled, and quadrupled checked.
still no joy here
I just bought a t-mobile branded HD7 from a store in California and have failed on both sites to get an unlock code. Keeps telling me the IMEI code is not recognized. This is a little worrying as I plan to be going back to the UK soon. Also frustrating as others on t mobile seem to have been having success.
Might be able to get it here:

This is where i got mine, took about 3 hours to get the code from HTC (used HTC- Worldwide (New Codes))

maybe tmous is trying to keep the phone locked down. If you got in on contract I don't think tmous will give it to you till you have had the phone 60 days. You could call them and tell them you are going overseas on business so you need the sim unlocked for overseas use. That is what I did with my hd2 before I sold it.
Guess I'm the only one with an un-unlockable HD7 in the world. I tried 3 different legit unlock companies and all failed. I called HTC and they said the carrier locks it. I called T-Mobile and spent 2 hours on the phone discussing everything from having to get a temporary pay-as-you-go plan to having to wait 40 days for an unlock code. Now they say if I fax them the receipt they could have it the next day at best.
This would be great except like some of you I bought mine on Kijiji and I doubt I can get a receipt from the seller.
Anyone want to buy my un-unlockable HD7?
Hey guys I've asked this in some thread before but never got an answer. I live in Canada and was thinking of telling my friend who's in the US right now to get me a contract free HD7 from tmobile so I can unlock it and then use it here. So I just want to know if it's a 100% sure thing that the phone can be unlocked before I buy it since I won't be able to return it in case it can't be unlocked. I don't want to end up with a 500$ paperweight since I've read that some people couldn't unlock theirs.
Because if it's not a sure thing, I guess I'll be getting the optimus 7..
Thanks!
T-Mobile will give the unlock codes after you've been a customer for a certain period of time. The length of that period and what happens to it when you've bought the phone at the unsubsidized price are somewhat variable and honestly I would not rely on this happening if you are not a T-Mobile customer.
However www.htcimeiunlock.com will probably be able to unlock the phone; I personally unlocked an HD7 in 15 minutes with their service. Bring a laptop or something and check the IMEI right in the TMOUS store before completing the purchase -- the site will tell you definitively whether it has the code for your specific device.
Like I said I'm not personally going there. My not-so-tech-savvy friend is so I can't ask him to do that. But do u think that eventually after a certain period of time that ALL htc phones' unlock codes will be available or are some just never unlockable?

It's almost certain that it will be available now. And if not, it will be soon enough. I wouldn't worry about it. Worst case scenario is that you have your not so tech savvy friend call tmobile and get the code for you. It shouldn't even come to that though.
I am having trouble getting my HD7 unlocked. I tried www.htcimeiunlock.com and it does not recognize my IMEI. I'm trying to get it unlocked at a different website and they have to contact HTC directly to get the unlock code.
Hi...
I bought one from T-mobile and he told me after 45 days I can call him to give me the unlock code.... But I couldn't wait and I used this website cellunlocker.net to unlock my device and it's working without any problem....Thanks!!!
I also ordered an unlock from Cellunlock.net last week.. Still waiting on a code for my HD7. Apparently HTC is way behind on providing codes to the unlockers for newer batches of phones. Getting annoyed either way, I have this HD7 in Toronto that I can't use.
It's a sure thing as I am using a T-Mobile HTC HD7 on FIDO, so the phone is unlocked. I'll sell you mine if you are in Toronto. T-Mobile phones are different band so you can only get Edge data through it. Kind of sucks if you are use to 3G speed. If you are going to use the phone on Wind then it's same band and you will get high speed data. Anyway it is possible to unlock - I've been using the phone on FIDO for almost 3 weeks now.
I have used www.cellunlocker.net to successfully unlock two of my HD7's. Codes came via email within 30 mins, both times.
Ugggg.... I've checked and although there is talk of help with unlocking, I don't see this specifically, so forgive if I missed it....
I did my first post a week or so ago when I had just bought a MyTouch that my son got to and, well, we ended up ordering a digitizer and spending hours trying to fix that one (the glue was CRAZY!).... Well, that didn't work.
I bought an Atrix HD off craigslist, yes locked. I love it, but now have tried two unlock companies and neither could come up with a code. AT&T can't tell me why (or so they say) that they say it's "unlockable".....
So, am I two for two - with another phone that I can't use or am I missing something.
Thanks so much - I really want to use this phone.

Recently, I bought a Motorola Flipout for my mom, and I have to admit that I am a Motofan and I bought more than 30 Motorolas in the past 2 years, ranging from 15 dollar to 425 dollars, all Androids. But this Flipout gave me some problems...
It was carrier locked to ATT, I'm using Telcel GSM, so I just bought the unlock code and put it on the phone like all the Androids I had, I tought it's was going to be easy, but I was wrong.
The first seller told me he didn't found the code, so i was refunded my 3.99, then the second seller told me the same, refunded me 7.99, I was like crazy, how no one can found the code for this now obsolete and old 2.1 phone?
I found this site: Cellunlocker.net and I bought the code from there, it cost me 7.99 dollar, and after 12 hours they gave me 2 codes, they didn't work, I was like crazy, how can even be possible I can't get an unlock code for this? In the same site, there's an extra option called "Manufacturer / Code Not Found" method. It's the most expensive than the carrier method, but it's more effective, the code for the Flipout with this method cost me 32.99 but it was valid. I recommend you this site if the ebay sellers can't find the unlock code for your Atrix, only you need paypal.

I have used two unlock companies. Both come back saying they can't produce a code and at&T says it is was manufactured as "an unlockable device", which sounds strange to me.....
I don't know the personal "history" of the phone other than it's relatively new - obviously... but have no idea about "developer" editions or anything like that..... Is it possible that a phone was "made unlockable"??

Don't worry, I use this phone on T-Mobile. It is unlockable. I too had two other companies fail to find the code and have to issue me a refund. I also spent a LONG time on the phone with AT&T who eventually said they couldn't unlock it because it was such a new model and they "reserved the right to keep it locked for up to a year". But the third company I tried, americanunlocker.com finally got me my unlock code and it worked fine. I'm now rockin T-Mobile's $30 plan on my AT&T Atrix HD. The unlock only cost me $15.

You Rock.....It took 5 days of "calculating unlock code" from AMERICAN UNLOCKERS..... but THEY DID IT!!!!
So definitely worth the $14.99!!! especially after 2 others who couldn't do it and 2 phone calls to AT &T where they were telling me it was unlockable for unknown reasons the first time and "would never be unlockable" on the second try!!!
THANKS SO MUCH!

Is everyone else getting a 5-day turnaround time from American Unlocker? I bought the code last Friday, and it's now Wednesday and they still haven't sent me the code. I'm starting to get worried since they said it would take 1-3 days.
It's been 10 days now since I placed my order with American Unlocker. Still no unlock code, and no reply to my messages via email, the fake "Live support" window, posts on their Facebok page, and messages to their Facebook profile. They don't pick up the phone either.
I finally got the code from American Unlocker, and it worked. They took their sweet time, but they delivered
I'm in peculiar situation: I bought my T-mo S8 direct from Samsung, paid in full, so now whom do I go to unlock my SIM? People from Canada received unlock code together with copy of bill, but I can't find anything on mine, any suggestions? Of course I want to do it as painless as possible and I want to ask here before calling customer service and waste few hours.

I am in the same situation. From my understanding of past and present TMo devices, the account has to be in good standing (EIP/equipment paid off) AND your device needs to have 40 or 45 days (someone correct me) of continuous usage on TMo network before you can request the Device App unlock = carrier unlock.
So just wait until then

As I suspected, I called Samsung to unlock my phone, they told me to call T-mo, called T-mo, they told me to call Samsung, wasted already 1 hour on this.

It's 40 days, that is I was told by CS. After that you use "Device unlock" app on your phone and choose permanent unlock.
Same techniques for S6 and S7 and it worked for me.
First of all I'm leaving on a trip in 20 days, second, the phone is paid in full now, not in 40, third I didn't buy it from T-mo so most likely they wont have any record of it. It's total BS and should be illegal, in Canada Samsung sends unlock code with the phone., but I guess here consumers have no protection. Last time I'm buying carrier phone. This whole locking of the phones is leftover from carrier subsidies and should not exist outside of those plans, if they still taking place. And a funny thing is I have no intention of leaving T-mo anyway and there are services to unlock phone for money. I remember some law about phone getting unlocked when paid I read about few years ago, but can't get any details now.

That is T-Mobile branded phone, and that is their rules, sorry for that. What you can do, before going on the trip, on that app/ choose Temporary unlock, it's good for 30 days and you can have it up to 5 times in a year.

You can call T-Mobile and let them know that you are travelling out of the country on ___ date and ask for an unlock code for a long time customer. It has worked for me in the past if you get the right rep.

I have the same problem, I bought the phone from Samsung.com and there was no option to purchase an unlocked phone. I am traveling in two days for a few weeks and I called Tmobile several times trying to at least get a temporary unlock and even that cannot be done. They said it has to be on their network for 40 days. I even called Samsung and they said all the unlock codes are sent to Tmobile and only they can unlock it due to the stupid Device Unlock app. You cannot unlock it even if you have the code, only the app can unlock it. If I didn't like the S8 so much I would have switched to the iPhone 7. Absolutely ridiculous!!!
I still don't understand how T-mo will know the phone you purchased direct from Samsung is paid for and should not have SIM locked to begin with.
I have the same problem with my S8. Bough it directly from Samsung. I contacted Samsung and they told me that I need contact tmobile; contact tmobile and they told me that my phone does not show in their system as a tmobile phone because I did not buy it from them. I need my phone unlock so when I travel overseas I can use a local sime card. I don't want to wait until 40-45 days go able to unlock my phone and then not be able to return it to Samsung. There some unlock services charging $50.00 plus to unlock it. I don't want to expend more money, since this phone is already very expensive.

It's not even about money, this should be illegal. This whole business of locking the SIM card is left over from contract subsidized phones and I could perfectly understand that phone belonged to phone company and you just leased it until end of contract. Now I praise T-mo for getting rid of this practice and changing whole industry, so now at least you know what are you paying for and how much. But now SIM locking shouldn't even happen anymore: if phone is stolen/unpaid for, blacklist IMEI and also you can unlock SIM for the fee, even if it is stolen, so what purpose this SIM locking serves? Canada gets unlock code with the phone.
Anybody had any luck getting the phone unlock.?I waited too long to return the phone, now I'm stuck with it.

the service is expensive $130 dls for the unlock

I was in the same boat as you. Went through T-Force on Twitter and seemed to have gotten a rep on the first go who understood the situation and submitted my IMEI number to the right place. Your IMEI number needs to be added to their "device distribution inventory system" and needs to be submitted to their highest level tech support, this allows the Device Unlock app think your phone came from T-mobile's inventory and will let the app unlock your phone.
There may be hope for everyone in the future, this one of the final responses I got from them:
"I am right there with you. It definitely makes things harder on both sides since the phone isn't technically bought from us, even though it is branded a T-Mobile phone and our system rejects any IMEI that didn't come from our inventory. None the less, we're all about giving you full access to what is yours. Teams are currently working on a process update that'll make things a lot more seamless, but in the meantime we've got this work around! I really appreciate you taking the time to reach out to us today!"
14 hours later I tried the Unlock Device app and requested the permanent unlock and was greeted with "Unlock Approved: Mobile Device is permanently unlocked"
Device is fully unlocked, tested with an AT&T SIM card and everything worked fine. After 2 reboots the Device Unlock app even disappeared from my phone. I'm so happy with how fast T-Mobile dealt with this. The more people that make a stink about this issue on social media hopefully T-Mobile will find a permanent fix for people buying a SIM locked at full price and have it easily unlocked under their standard procedure.

Did this work for you and were you able to successfully unlock ?
no,unfortunately it couldn't be unlocked because cellunlock no longer have access to their server ,I had to have a contract and wait the 40 days that are the requirement so I can release it
I dont think anybody has now. nearly all the sites i checked unlocking tmobile does not seems to be available.
