I am pretty new with Android.
- Yesterday, I got a black c=screen (the bottom buttons were lighting up, but the screen stayed black).
- I re-flashed with VOL UP + HOME + POWER
- Everything is OK, WIFI works BUT I get a sim card with an exclamation point on the status bar.
- I tried to upgrade to Froyo through the registry hack - no success
- I flashed again - the sim card is still there
- I tried a different sim - no luck
I have a Galaxy S I9000M from Bell Canada. It is Unlocked and Rooted. The soft version is ECLAIR.UGJH2. Firmware 2.1-update1.
I am using it in Romania under Vodafone Romania.
The phone always had a problem of not seeing the network notifications(ex: when you send an sms to a certain number and you get back usage info). All the rest was working 100%
Is the anything I can do to fix this? I can not return the phone in warranty as I am no longer in Canada.
Thank you

I finally found the solution to my issue:
I have never owned a phone where the SIM could be inserted more than the one correct way, and on the Galaxy S it can be placed 180 degrees on itself.

Have just got an xda off ebay - like everbody does from the sound of it.
appears unlocked, and can surf the internet via my wireless at home. only problem is put my vodafone sim in and says cannot connect to network. There's an exclamation next to the signal icon. Does this mean i cannot connect at all?
Have trawled the forums for answers but geting confused by all the jargon. Can anybody post the network settings or cab files for payg vodafone. all the current links i have clicked on just appear as a .gif, not a downloadable file
Getting fed up now as apart from the phone part i love my new toy
It's sounding as though it is not actually unlocked. The fact you can surf via WiFi has nothing to do with the SIM, my Alpine works just fine without a SIM in for that purpose.
Try the unlocking tool here on XDA-Dev to redo the removal of the carrier lock. I seem to recall having more success with the earlier version.
working or not?
the programme says it is unlocked, but exclamation still comes up - i guess i have to put in all the gprs and wap ect settings for it to connect properly?
samsung27
yes thats normaly how one get gprs to work unless the correct setting are preset
cab file correct?
have just downloaded the cab file for vodafone settings - but it just seems to contain one xml file?
looks like registry settings but no change to phone.
have tried to hard reset - power and reset at bottom but always get the o2 splash screen and radio settings never the personal or corporate file bit where you put in the serial no. am i doing the all wrong???
the unlock screen came and said that it was unlocked but still no joy as to using it as a proper phone
Here's a CAB for the Vodafone UK GPRS settings, i am on the monthly SIM onky contract so they may not work if you are PAYG.
finally got my alpine working - stuck in a new sim and topped up. installed spb phone suite and keboard as could not get wisbat to work with 2003 version of os. just need to get some latest themes and apps to get sorted. thanks for everybodies help
samsung27
changed providers again
yes it did work with vodafone for about 2 days then battery went flat. charged it up - no setings will not work.
stuck an new o2 sim in it and signal works registered etc. will wait to see if it does it again. other wise will just use it as an app and music pda
If you drained the battery completly , you will alweys lose all the settings.
You must charge it before it is completly drained.
I'm having this problem which started right now, without even rebooting the phone or doing any kind of procedure. The phone accepts the pin code for the sim card, shows signal on the notification bar, but I can't make any calls, and it doesn't recognize the network on the notification bar - however, on the phone information area it has no problem recognizing the network.
Any idea on what's happening? I'm on JPU btw!
edit: after a couple of reboots it's working again Well, the problem is solved; still, should I be worried about this behaviour?
how did you solve this problem? im having same issues
this is crazy i am having the very same problem, my I9000T was on charge i shut down my pc then disconnected the I9000T, and since then it does not see my sim card, i have tried three different sim cards without any luck, the phone is rooted, and funnily enough i was reading about Darky`s v8 rom as this was my next step i wanted to do today GGRRrrr does anyone have any ideas on this, or do i unroot it and take it back to the shop i bought it from ?? thanks and regards in advance

Happened to me after a random reboot about a month ago. Hasnt worked since.

I bought this GT-I9000 (international version) at Amazon.com, when I arrived in Brasil I made one call and later I changed SIM cards. The next time I tried to make a call no signal...! I did a factory data reset through privacy and settings but nothing.
I have nothing installed on it.
My SIM cards worked fine in Nokia.
Nokia works ok same room.
Settings: PDA - XWJM2 PHONE - XXJM1 CSC - OXXJM2
I just installed Kies and there is nothing to update, it says.
- Would it locked itself when I change SIM cards?
WHAT SHOULD I DO?
Wireless network settings enter APN for your network .
In other words the phone does not know your network enter it manually .
OXX *Multi CSC* (for Austria, Baltic, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Macedonia, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, South Africa, Switzerland)

What is not working is phone calls. the device can recognize my SIM card showing the server, but does not make calls and shows the icone for no signal (blue).
Internet wifi is ok (I have not tried the other one, I dont have data plan).
You can put your phone in download mode? 3 button download.

Yes. I did after you asked. Actually, I pressed 3 buttons and showed a yellow window and a working man and it was stucked on it, till I pressed on/off again.
What did you mean?
I thought my phone had locked itself, but I tried galaxy unlock tool PRO and it says that it is unlocked; but the phone continues to show a blue icone and when I try to make a call it says: not registered on network.
PLEASE, HOW TO FIX THIS?
try the latest modem file and send it by Odin (I had the same problem and fixed that way)

Open dial pad and dial *#06# does your imei pop up? If it shows no number then that's your problem.
I am having same problem here exactly. Any ideas ?
Hi,
Here's a little history of my question.
My sister was using a droid bionic on verizon 4G network. After the end of her contract, she bought a new phone and this awesome phone got passed to me.
Now I brought the phone to India WITHOUT the SIM.
And , to not snoop on my sis's accounts that were on the phone, I did a factory/data reset from settings---> Privacy
Now, the phone boots to android setup as all phones do but touching the android asks for a sim (even though i am connected to wifi). My India Vodafone sim isnt recognised and I'm currently stuck here.
The phone is currently running 2.3.4 stock unmodded, unrooted rom.
I want to update to Jelly Bean(Optional)
Unlock the GSM radio (usiing radiocomm perhaps? havent read thru fully yet)
And then use the phone here in India.
But as I said, I'm stuck in the android setup screen. somebody please advice!
To bypass the setup screen, just tap all for corners of the screen. Start at the top left and go clockwise. That should let you in the phone.
Ok I did an upgrade on Euphoria rom (OTA) yesterday and managed to lose my data . I just get an ! mark. So I went right back to stock and I'm now on 5.01 with no rooting ,i even locked my bootloader . Still no data . After checking the APN settings were correct I thought it maybe my old sim given up as it was one I cut down form a micro , so off to Three I went and got a new shiny nano sim but its still the same. If I drop into the handset a 02 sim it works . I have no idea
Ive fully wiped formatted etc . It seems to be a three to nexus problem . I have read people on sprint having difficulty's but this did used to work. .Any help would be gratefully received

Use the google provided factory images and flash back to stock. If it works there you know its something with the custom rom, if it doesnt work its probably a phone problem.
I'm on three, no issues here at all
Your not the only one
I was begining to think i was the only one who had this problem!
Yesterday morning i woke up and to my suprise my signal bar had a (!) it it but it was still displaying my regual signal level.
I switched my wifi of and i couldnt get a data connection just the (!) sign. I got my girlfreind to give me a ring and see if a
call would go through which it didnt it just said that i was unavalible. I then desided that a reboot might sort the problem
but when i my phone booted back up i was presented with the holow triangle signal icon to say that i had to signal. I then
popped my simacard out thinking it could have just been a bit of dust on it. I gave it a little bit of a dust of and popped it back
into my phone and i was given the same no signal and emergency calls only yet it was picking up that there was a simcard inserted.
The day before i had flashed the alpha version of PA so my next thought was that this would be a ROM bug and went ahead and
flashed chroma which i was using prior to PA and i had had no issues with. Held my fingers crossed as it booted up but much to my
dismay i was greated with the same no signal problem but i went into the settings and searched for networks. Three was one of
the network it had picke dup so i tryed to reconnect to it but i got the toast to tell me i couldnt connectto the network and to
try again later. I checked the APN settings and it had automatically grabbed threes APN from the sim card so at this stage i was
completly baffled by them problem.
My next move was to try my sim in my girlfreinds phone and what do you know it worked a charm. As a last shot to check everything
was okay and i was upto date on my bills etc i gave three a ring and they told me there was nothing wrong with my sim and everything
was working as it should be and that it was a problem with my phone.
That brings me to the point i am at now completly baffled as to the problem and slightly angry at the 2 week old phone that had been working
perfectly up until now has suddnely desided to stop with no warning.
So you are not the only one and i expect their are more of us. I am going to flash the offical stock rom from google and see if that does the
trick but im not holding up much hope i feel like im going to have to contact google and find out where the problem lies.

Try waiting for a bit before inputting your pin number. This solved the "no network and !-mark" thing. If I input my pin too fast, it will unlock my sim, but won't give any network. I always have to wait few seconds before inputting my pin to get network :/
