Hi all
This is hopefully the last factor in deciding whether I will get the HD7 or not.
I read on cellhub that you have to "Activate on Delivery". What does this mean? Can you not use the phone before it is activated or does it only need to be activated on T-Mobile if you are using it on T-Mobile?
Thanks again.

not sure what that is, mine arrived, poped in the sim, had touns of trouble with importing contacts, but once I got past that, the phone works just fine out of the box.
Im Tmobile USA.
now using the empty OS it self is a whole other issue
If you mean an iPhone like iTunes dependent activation there is none. Just pop the sim in and you are ready to go. In fact, I didn't even entered a SIM when I first opened it
Ok, great, thanks very much.
Were you two both on contracts or prepaid?
I will be purchasing the phone and then using it in South Africa so I don't want it to get here only to find out that it has to be activated with a T-Mobile sim card
You mean unlocked/locked phone. If you bought yourself an unlocked phone there shouldn't be any problem with your SIM . Just as I did
No, I know I'll need to unlock it.
I want to know if the actual phone has to be activated by T-Mobile before it can be used.
Do I require cables, software or any technical knowledge?
Unlocking your HTC phone by HTCimeiUnlock.com is very simple. You don't need any cables, software or technical knowledge. All you have to do in order to unlock your phone is to switch it on with a not allowed SIM card and simply use your phone's keypad to enter the eight digit unlock code provided by us!

Looks like no.

Other than using another provider's SIM card, that is. I believe I properly unlocked my Tilt and I want to sell it as such but I want to make sure it works correctly with someone other than At&t. Any help? Thanks.
Find a friend with tmobile and get his sim card. Place it in your Tilt and if there's coverage, it's unlocked, if not then it's locked.

I used a CID/SIM unlocker before my first flash and now after every hard reset/new flash there is a connection setup that connects me to ATT after I put in my SIM. I believe that means I am successfully unlocked, so you should get the same message.
the connection setup runs because the rom is used by potentially all carriers, so it figures out what carrier you are using and connects to it. not because you are unlocked
to the op search "kaiser CID/SIM unlocker" rub the program straight through FOLLOWING ALL DIRECTIONS IN THE THREAD. this means you must first read the thread and the thread will tell you what to do.

I don't need spoon fed. This is what I did to unlock the phone. What I am looking for is an alternate way to verify the phone is unlocked other than the program I used to unlock it. This is important because I do not want to sell the phone and have it not work for someone.
run the program \windows\simlock.exe , if it doesnt launch or launches with a blank screen, then your phone is unlocked
I was going to say that, but XtreMe_G beat me to it!
I can also verify that though: just run \Windows\SIMLock.exe and if nothing happens then you're unlocked. If the handset asks you for the subsidy code, then you are not unlocked.

Yes, there is an alternative way to check if your phone is unlocked. Go and purchase a prepay Tmobile phone. They're relatively cheap, it should come with a sim card with some minutes on it. I'm contracted w/ ATT, also have an ATT prepay account and 4 tmobile blank sim cards. All sims work with my unlocked phone. If it didnt, you'll get an error on the phone stating that the sim doesn't work (or something like that).

Would this work as well?

yes that will work, but didnt i just show how you can do it for free?
Hi all,
so i have a couple of questions, I'm buying 2 G1 phones.
The first one was one they try to root, but now it just tells me that there is no SIM-card placed in the phone, even if there is one in it. Is this fixable?
And the 2nd phone is a G1 from T-Mobile, will this phone work with my SIM, I'm not a customer of T-Mobile. And if it doesn't, how do I make this work in here, I've done some searching allready and there are 2 ways that I know off. T-Mobile customer service (I'm not a customer) and to buy an unlock code. Is there a third option?
Ok I've got this T-Mobile G1 (black) that is now running RC29. I have no T-Mobile SIMcard because tmobile isn't active in Belgium. What are my options, and If get a hold on a unlock code where do I enter it?
If you root your phone and install a new ROM then you can use any other SIM card.

So I don't even need an unlock code?!
Ok this is odd! I received my hd7 yesterday and immediately set about getting it unlocked once i had done the basic set up. Because of what i have read so far on numereous forums i automatically assumed the phone ould be locked and went to one of the two sites suggested here to purchase my code. Within 5 mins i had my unlock code for the sum of £19 something.
So i then read through the email and go to follow the instructions. The first instruction states that i should put in a SIM card from a different network. So i put in the t-mobile SIM i intend to use with the HD7 and would you believe it ITS UNLOCKED?! The phone tile shows T-Mobile as the network and i check and see if i can make and receive calls...all work fine?
Now my question is: was my hd7 unlocked when i purchased it? (bought online from o2 uk payg) or did the guys fromm the unlock site do some sort of jiggery-pokery that unlocked my phone OTA via my IMEI number?
Didnt O2 and Tmobile recent join forces to some extenet. I think they share the same network now so that may be why.
I bought a PAYG one yesterday and my vodafone simcard didnt work so bought the unlock code.

It can't be unlocked OTA, so it must have been shipped unlocked.
That was too good to be true…after appearing to be unlocked my HD7 has
now decided to lock itself. It is giving me this message:
"This sim card can only be used on specific networks. Contact your customer service centre for the unlock code"
I've attempted 3 different PINS (1210, 0000 and 0000 again) with my T-Mobile SIM card in incorrectly so i guess i now need to get a PUK code. The question is who do i go to get this from T-Mobile (my current netwoork) or O2.

Errmm, That unlock code it's asking you for is not the SIM PIN, it's the unlock code you paid for from the site, I hope you did not guess it incorrect too many times otherwise you can lockout the phone completely.
OH GOD! you were right...that message was basically asking for the unlock code i paid for. Once i punched the code in it accepted it and i appear to be up and running again.
still find it odd that the phone acted like it was unlocked for a brief period before i had unlocked it!
thank you!
Glad it worked, good job you have not tried to guess the code 10 times otherwise you would never have got it unlocked.
Your right though, seems odd that it let you use it the first time, it's all software based anyway so guess it was a glitch.

Hi I work for o2 UK and it sounds to me like you luckily got a device set up for a contract. O2 only tend to sim lock the payg devices now. The salesman probably picked up the wrong device.
I was planning on giving my uncle my ace and unfortunately when I put his sim in and try to connect to Rogers APN it says I'm unable to register on to the network. I put my sim in from my One V and it worked on that phone. I'm assuming it's carrier locked, how exactly can it be fixed if at all. Thanks.

the phone is locked. you need to get an unlock code. look on ebay or your local craigslist. you should be able to get it done for under $20

I've heard that cellunlocker.net works. It costs some money, but from what I've heard, it sounds pretty good!
Why I thought this wasn't the case is that my phone never asks for a code to be unlocked like these sites say, so I'm a little confused as to whether my phone is locked or unlocked.

There's probably a hidden menu that you have to access. I think if you get your code, specific for your device, they should give you clear instructions on how to get there... But they probably won't do it until you pay for it . I'll try and search around and see what I can find.
-------- edit ---------------------------------------------------------------
Alrighty! Here is the thread that you might be looking for. It's a bunch of hidden menus, and one of them might be the one you are looking for....

However, I still don't know how to unlock the phone haha Sorry about that part, just giving a few suggestions

I think u should edit ur apn configuration and use rogers setting.. may be u can find the rogers setting in their web..
You didn't specify which ROM the Ace was running. If its a stock Samsung ROM, I'd expect it to ask for a code, but with CM7 or 9, it won't since those build lack some libraries to perform the actual unlock.
To get your code look into the bml5 method.
So my question in in the title. Will I need to activate this phone with a Verizon sim to make it work in Canada or I can just import one and put in my SIM that is compatible with the phone and it will work?
I'm sorry for the noobiness of this post but I haven't imported a phone before and I have read a lot of hate regarding Verizon so I just want to confirm before I buy this phone. Also I want to avoid getting a 6" phone if I can....
Thanks!
Hey, I do not think you need to activate it. Provided, you pay full off-contract price. I have imported one to India. and am using it from yesterday. Out of the box. and Obviously some Verizon apps wont work.
Hey yes you will need to activate, I'm in the UK and did it with no issues, no need for the prepay verizon sim just chose to do it over wifi and all done. The only thing that come up every time you restart the phone is "not a verizon sim" but doesnt affect anything , just dissmiss it.
I dont think you need activate it. I am using it in bell and dont even need to enter the apn info
Cool. So I guess I will import it. Just need to find the right price on eBay now...
