Has anyone been able to run the Nook Android Application on a rooted Nook Color?
When I try to run it, it just exists immediately.
Why would you want to run the android app, when you already have the nook.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
Nookie Froyo can and from what I've been told works fine, therefore the app works on the screen and such, but for some reason no it doesn't work properly in the B&N ROM.
I have the same experience, that is, immediate exit.
Why run it on the NookColor??
Because the Market app is just better.
Page turning is more like a page turn, the interface is better......
Tried killing native processes and it still won’t work..
No, ideas. I guess I’ll wait for Froyo.

I knew someone was going to ask that.
Easy - once you add about 2700 books, the library app on the nookColor shows 0 books. You can still search, but you can no longer browse. (That's using up 2.5GB of space - so just about half).
I have 0 faith that B&N will fix this, so I was thinking perhaps that the android app would not have this limitation.
Whoa....have you reported this bug?
If that's the case i have no doubt it WILL be fixed. Has anyone duplicated this issue with that many books?

I really hope you are right, but I wonder where you get your optimism.
E-mail technical support @ Barnes and Noble is non-existent. So far, the suggestions have ranged form hard resetting the device, to telling me how I can unarchive my books. So I gave up on that.
I called in a few times, and managed to get to the next level up of support, but can't seem to get them to file a bug report in their system. Previous companies I worked for, we would gladly file a bug report and give the customer the #. Not here.
As you can imagine, 2700 books might be considered an edge case - but not for long - especially given that the Nook reads PDFs, etc. 2700 is not all that much.
There's a post here: http://bookclubs.barnesandnoble.com...ks-in-Library/m-p/770718/highlight/true#M3277 which shows another user concurring. I have seen others with the same issue as well...
Two things.
First, another valid reason to utilize the android app is the ability to use multiple accounts. I personally use three accounts on B&N, and it is super annoying that I have to wipe my account just to read my other books.
Second, if this is a real bug present in the stock Barnes and Noble library, they will fix it. The original NOOK has had five updates to fix bugs and add features, and Barnes and Noble will continue this with the NOOKcolor. The main reason they chose the android OS as opposed to creating their own ( a la kindle or sony) was the easiness of OTA updates.

Also, the reason I am looking for it, is the ability to read holding the nook landscape, it is more confortable to me that way.
I prefer the Phone version of the UI in the Nook App and would like my CM7 NC to look the same as some of the button in the tablet version are hard to hit for some reason (especially 'go to shop', 'settings', etc).
I installed the APK that my phone downloaded but the app knows it's a tablet and converts to that. Anyone know how to make it look more like the phone version?
MOD EDIT: This does not affect the nook color. This is for the monochrome Nook.
What's new in V1.5?
NOOK V1.5 improves performance while adding great new features. Key updates include:
1. NEW! Stay in Sync Across Multiple Devices
Automatically sync the last page you read on your NOOK or NOOK app with another. For instance, if you stop reading on a certain page on your NOOK, you'll automatically open to the same exact place on your iPad, iPhone or Android-based Smartphone using our FREE NOOK apps.
2. NEW! Stay Organized with "My Shelves"
Create, name and organize shelves in "My B&N Library" and "My Documents" in "My Shelves". For instance, you can put all your cookbooks on one shelf, all your spy novels on another shelf, for quick and easy access.
3. NEW! Password Protect Your NOOK
Your NOOK can now be secured in two ways to prevent unauthorized use. First - you can set up your NOOK to lock when it goes into sleep mode, then unlock it with a pass code. Second - you can require a password to purchase content, so others using your NOOK cannot buy anything without your permission.
4. Faster page turns, improved search, and other optimization
How do I get Version 1.5?
The V1.5 update is available immediately as a manual download and, for those NOOKs connected to Wi-Fi®, as an automatic download. To get the software update right now, follow the instructions above for manual download. If your NOOK is registered and has Wi-Fi® connectivity (Airplane mode should be OFF and Wi-Fi® should be turned ON and connected to a hotspot), the device will automatically download the software and install it on your NOOK. If connected to Wi-Fi® and you'd like to get the update, you can tap 'Check for new B&N content' under My Library. However, if the update does not start automatically, please try again in a couple of hours or the next day or follow the instructions above to download the update file manually.
The process takes approximately 5-7 minutes via Wi-Fi® or 4-5 minutes for the manual download (depending on your connection). You should NOT turn your NOOK off while the new software is being downloaded. Once the software update is completed, your NOOK will automatically restart and display the Home screen. The software update will preserve your personal settings, including your registered account information, content, display settings, and Wi-Fi® settings.

Agreed... This isn't a "Report to mod" incident but it's disinformation at best.
How did the OP not read the information and see that this was for the original Nook?
shame on the OP getting my hopes up like that...

Exactly what I was thinking. Was about to shut down my nook!
The shelves thing would be nice, though. Why haven't they implemented this on the NC?
Unless they have... Ignorance, my old nemesis!
Mod notified - hopefully they get rid of this soon and stop panicing users.
I have edited the title and added a message to the OP so people don't get unduly worried about this.

You are correct, it is your nemesis.
Not only that, v1.5 for the e-ink classic Nook (black & white) ereader has been out for months and is hardly news. This thread really has no relevance and should just be deleted.

I have seen one other post about this, but it seems to have died. The other poster mentioned that Epocrates (an app that is an absolute must have for me as a medical student) doesn't work with a rooted 1.0.1 or 1.1, but that it does apparently work with a Froyo install. When I say it doesn't work, I mean it seems to install just fine but when you go to sign on, it keeps saying that the username and password are not correct even though I know that they are.
I know that this is one app for one person, but I mainly got the nook color to be an oversized ipod touch (gasp, yes I said the four letter i-word) that I could carry with me in my white coat pocket since it is the size of a small book and have easy access to the web and all kinds of resource information.
I just don't know if I am ready to go through with the hassle of installing and configuring Froyo if I could possibly just make one little app work....
Please help.
I can tell you that I get the same problem as you when I tested out the log-in. I can log-in fine with the website but not the app on stock v1.1. I haven't test the app with Froyo so I can't report back. However you can test this app with the bootable Froyo. Do a search in the Development section. All you need is a 2gb or bigger microSD.
Recently after my SD card somehow killed itself after installing the ManualNooter thing for the 1.2 update (I really don't think it was their fault, by the way) I decided to just take the plunge and start using CM 7 on a regular basis (in other words, heck with dealing with the B and N updates). Very impressive by the way, it's much more stable for me than it was when I first tried it shortly after it was released.
Anyway, I was wondering if anyone had ever had a book that worked fine on the stock Nook Color software not work with the Nook for Android marketplace app? It's the weirdest thing. It downloads fine (as do all my books) but just won't load. All my other books work. If anyone has any ideas, please share them, it's driving me crazy. I've tried everything I can think of (reinstaling app, logging out and back in, deleting the book completely and redownloading...) short of trying another SD card, since I don't have spare at the moment.
It's a complete collection of Sherlock Holmes, by the way. Great stuff.
I found a solution! I'm going to share it here in case anyone else runs into this problem with a book. What I ended up doing was decrypting the book and then copying it to the My Documents folder within the Nook folder, it worked after that (although that begs the question "Why on earth didn't it work in the first place?"). I kind of think we aren't allowed to link to such things so I won't, but I did a quick search and found an absurdly easy to use suite of tools for decrypting eBooks one has purchased from various sellers.
Alright, not to bump my own topic, but this information is somewhat related. I keep seeing people say that Magazine Subscriptions don't work on the Market reader. While this is true in that you can't make them, or download the magazines, I've found that I can use the website to manage/download the magazines (well, that and subscribe to things), and they work perfectly fine if I then copy them into the documents folder within the Nook folder on my SD card. It's less convenient, but there you have it. Why they don't just add full magazine support in I'm not sure.
Just a tip. My next step after 'fixing' the previous book was to see if my magazines worked.

Are you saying that B&N Magazine Subscriptions can be used with the Android Nook app under CM7?
Can you link to where you download magazines? What file type does it download as?
Another problem with the B&N Android app is that you don't see the book cover for all the sideloaded books in the MY Documents folder. It shows up just fine on the stock reader.
Anyway, I've given up on the B&N market app. Started using Moon reader and Aldiko.

Well, if you sign into your account on the Barnes and Noble website, you can go to the newsstand to subscribe/unsubscribe to magazines and what have you (since you can't on the app itself). If you go to your Library when logged in, you'll see all your books. You have to click on the Magazines heading on that bar on the left there to see them (This link should take you there). You should see a download button for the current issue as well as a recent issues thing you can click on to get past issues you've received.
As for your second question, it's an ePub, though as a sidenote the DRM is different than what's used on the regular books apparently (or at least SOMETHING is different). Still works when read in the Market B&N app though (it HAS to be in the My Documents folder. Won't show up otherwise, in my experience). It is true that you won't see the cover, but to me that's a minor annoyance compared to it not working at all.

It's not in the magazine section of your Library on the Barnes and Noble website? Also, you won't see a link in the Nook app itself for magazines. After I got it from the website I had to copy it to the appropriate folder on the SD card (as said about "Nook/My Documents"). Also, make sure you refresh on the first screen of the Nook app in order to get it to see them. Sometimes it takes a second.
*edit*
Another way you can do it is to use the PC Nook program to download it (since it supports magazines). After you download the magazines in that case, you'll find them in your Documents folder, in "My Barnes & Noble eBooks\[email protected]"

Aaaaaah...apparently some subscriptions are Nook Color only, some aren't. I apologize, I only just now realized this. I tried a trial subscription of PC Gamer and it did what you described...on the page for that magazine it says Nook Color under the "Read exclusively on this..." blah blah line on the page. The only subscription I tried ("Asimov's Science Fiction") is available on PC and everything else.
I'd guess that if you downloaded it with the stock Nook software you could copy it off and then read it on the marketplace app, but that doesn't do a fat lot of good I suppose. Sadly it looks like a bunch of them ARE Nook Color exclusive. I guess I just lucked out...sorry to get everyone excited. It's too bad there's probably no way to spoof yourself as a Nook Color.

No, if you click on the name of the magazine/newspaper it will say part way down the page. When I said "tried" I should have said "looked at on the webpage". You might have to click on it, the thing that says something like "Read Exclusively on these apps and devices:" in the little informational section next to the picture.
This is unfortunate that only some newspapers work and others don't. Chicago Tribune is available on nook for android but my WSJ is not. Gonna have to keep my dual boot BN1.2 stock and CM7/2.3 and flip back and forth. Arghhh!

If you (or anyone) do get a NookTouch and root it, I'd be most appreciative if you could share you experience regarding several points:
(1) pdf -- zooming and landscape (NookTouch does not have multitouch; can we at least use the "+/-" zoom buttons in the free acrobat pdf reader? -- assuming that we can sideload apps!)
(2) can we install an alternate launcher? (e.g. zeam)
(3) can we access (google) calendar/contact/gmail?
(4) connectbot? terminal emulator?
(5) kindle/aldiko/etc?
(6) battery life?
Thanks!

I agree/believe that the first five bullet points I raised are possible; what I'm interested in is the *experience* -- e.g. is it realistic to use a rooted NookTouch to sideload the acrobat reader to read a 20 page science paper in pdf with equations *comfortably* (the latter would likely mean reading in the landscape mode).
As for item #6: this entire thread is about rooted device My question is whether using the rooted NookTouch to run regular (not flash) apps like acrobat reader/aldido/brower would kill the battery (e-ink uses energy only when it reflashes, but if you have to scroll your pdf file/webpage frequently then this might still be an issue...).
Is sideloading the only option for loading apps onto the rooted Touch, or is it possible to get apps on there via an app store?

If we can sideload Ammazon Market it should let you download app. I will try it tonight.
Once we have Adb working possibilities are endless.
I should get one, I'm pretty sure one can cook up a modified CM7 for this easily.
I was ready to run out and pick one up, but even if rooted, the screen refresh makes it seem frustrating for web browsing.

Having said that, apps that don't require fast screen updates (words with friends, chess, sudoku) will probably work well.

Looks like this is the nook touch developers forum for now.
That's fantastic that it was rooted so quickly.
It sounds like the next step is getting a launcher working. As of now, it seems the only way to run apps is via adb wifi.
It would be nice to keep the original interface and have the option to get to an apps screen via the top bar.
Anyone currently working on this?
The new kobo touch seems to pan very fast in a pdf without flickering. Is the nook touch capable of this? Does the kobo touch have a browser or a way of getting one on there?
