You are using the wrong odin. You are looking for the one that flashes jf6. I think you are using the froyo flasher

Ive just flashed juwe's 5.0 and now there is no baseband version meaning i cant make or recieve calls or anything like that. What do i do?
You've flashed correctly and done all the steps described in the flashing manual? If you had Froyo before: did you flash a Gingerbread-firmware including bootloader?

I was on gingerbread jvp so I assumed I already had the gingerbread bootloaders, correct?

Well, if you update from Froyo to Ginger via Odin you have to flash a Ginger-vresion including the bootloaders (here on XDA there are mostyl versions WITH and version WITHOUT bootloader available, and you need one WITH bl.).
You could try to flash a modem seperatly with Odin, but normally everything should work with Juwe's 5.0.
But i wasnt on froyo, i was on gingerbread so i must of already had gingerbread bootloaders? Anyway if i didnt have the bootloaders why did it still boot me into juwe 5.0?
Hm, ok. Were you able to make calls with your previous Ginger-ROM?
If I was you I'd flash stock-Ginger again and - if the telephone-function works - flash Juwe's 5.0.
Yes I was able to make calls.

Not correct, there are seperatly modems for CM7 for example. But for Samsung-based ROMs you are right.

So i just got a new cappy on exchange from bby and have some questions prior to roming.
I had a 1007 build and got a 1010. What root methods are good for preloaded 2.2?
Can i odin one click to 2.1 like with my first one and root from there?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using xda premium
If you are going to flash a custom rom there is no need to root. Flash speedmod kernel with odin to get cwm and flash rom in recovery.
If you want a gingerbread rom the added step of flashing gingerbread bootloaders is required. Still no need to root.
But if you were going to root, super one click would be the way.
Thank you

Also that Odin one click (JF6) doesn't work well with builds 1010 and later.

I think you can use the full Odin and flash a stock firmware. If you are GB bootloaders you will have to flash back to froyo/eclair bootloaders... which, flashing btldrs is not necessarily safe, just keep the cat and dog out of the room so they don't rip the cord out mid flash
