Stereo audio from HD video?? - HD7 General

So, still don't have a WP7 phone...yet.
Was reading the review of the HD7 from gsmarena.com and I downloaded the raw HD video sample.
In both Quicktime and VLC, the audio shows up as:
AAC, stereo (L R), 48.000 kHz
Hmmm, that's pretty damn sweet if you ask me and totally undocumented and not noticed any reviews to my knowledge. Only a handful of handsets to stereo audio, color me impressed.
Now if we can get the bitrate raised up a couple Mb/s I'd be in celly heaven!!!

Mono sound on video HD recording, why?

I don't know why but any video I make with my i9000 has an ac2 mono sound. No matter what resolution I pick for the video. Isn't there a workaround for this? To make it at least stereo if not better?

The phone does not have 2 microphones in the first place. Hence recorded audio is mono.
Video resolution should not be affecting its audio.
Ok but before sgs I owned an iphone and guess what it recorded video with stereo and only one mic. It is software related. Must be...

But do you hear difference in the left and right channel?
If it doesn't, SGS encodes it in a more bandwdth efficient manner.

Then it wasn't stereo. It may have been twin mono. But, as said, why waste space recording twin mono.
As far as I know stereo sounds better as mono, that's why I prefer the more non efficient way of encoding. And let's not talk about having a very good quality video stream beside a poor audio one.
It's like being married to miss univers and not having the posibility to see her (you know how) cuz your blind...

As far as I know stereo means absolutely nothing if the device doesn't have the hardware to capture in stereo. Mono does not necessarily indicate inferior quality. Your iPhone has recorded in mono but just replicated the channels to appear as stereo. Samsung Galaxy S rather honestly reported mono and let the playback device (eg. computer) replicate the channels whenever necessary. The audio quality boils down to the bit rate and sampling rate used; and these should be considered in development of improving SGS's audio recording quality.
the SGS has no option to select the recording level, and bandwidth/bit rate to begin with
so you get what you get.
we are waiting for an App or a Hack to allow uses to change the recording bit rate so it can get better sound
True, so the development has to focus on hacking the bit rate and sampling rate, rather than producing fake stereo.
True but you gotta admit, the video is in hd for christ sake and the sound is not even close to the quality of video...c'mon. A bigger bitrate would be helpfull, at least AC3.

that is what every one is complaining about, including myself
we need an App to control which recording sound frecuency we want to use instead of whatever it's the default, which sounds like something on the 11Hz or 22 Hz at best guestimate

Can it play 1080p rmvb?

Can it play 1080p rmvb with rockplayer or other player?
I've tried a few 1080p trailers etc. and Rockplayer seems to have serious issues when it comes to 1080p playback of any sort, very laggy etc. I've had mixed results with the inbuilt player. Som 1080p material just flows, and it shows true 1080p through the HDMI cable. But some trailers had some lags. It varies a lot. I got two pre release samples and I can totally see that the issue is definitely with premature software or software which can't quite yet use the full power of the Nvidia dual core architecture...
But man am I impressed when it works!

Resolution for Ripping DVDs for Nook

What resolution and file type is best for the Nook Color? I tried one at 1028x563ish and it won't play. I have another that is like 420x800 or something like that and it plays but picture quality isn't quite as good as it could be (worse than streaming content viewed on the nook). What have you guys had work well for you? I have been using mp4 files cause they will play on my nook and my wife's iPad
The search function is your friend...there are whole discussions on this subject. To sum up...854X480 is the Max resolution for hardware based playback. There are multiple links to various handbrake presets...the one I use is set to 1k kbits.

MoBo Player is also your friend. Works well with just about anything.
Try 512x300 (a quarter of the Nook screen) at 600 kbps with 96kbps audio. More than sufficient!
I know it's not as good as the max res the Nook supports but it allows you to put many more movies on it at the same time...
I usually use 852x480... I didn't know about the 854x480 limit - I'm not sure where I got 852 from. I use ffmpeg to rip... the most important thing is to have -vpre baseline in the options or the video may not play. Mp4 supports a ton of different options when encoding, and baseline makes sure that nothing is included that the nook can't handle.

I use handbrake and set video to 1024x576. Mobo plays this perfectly.
I realize this is beyond the max rez, but with Mobo it is gorgeous for playback.

Just note that your battery life will suffer considerably compared to encoding the video so that the DSP can handle decoding.
I use Cucosofts dvd ripper ultimate.this software is capable of converting to just about any format out there.I've had great success with mp4 itouch settings. Set to maximum bit rate for the best picture quality possible.Rips and converts any dvd I've thrown at it.Audio and video quality is great.

HERE! if someone can mod this to work like 95% it would be a sweet add on!

LGCamera works the best set 1920x1080, 8Megabits/s video bitrate, 320kbps audio at 48khz and you can maintain 30fps and it's quite epicly gorgeous quality I must say.
Where LGCamera shines over 99.9% of other camera apps is in audio quality. AAC at 320kbps sounds amazing.

Hi-Res Audio output

Does Nokia 7 Plus support Hi-Res Audio output?
Use poweramp alpha version for hi res output.
LDAC support already shown for the sony wi-h700 on android p dev beta
I am using poweramp alpha version 705 and the output via jack is 24bit 384Khz.
Auidio quality is great too and is improved after 2 updates..

I have now bought a N7+ myself and I can comment more thoroughly on this.
I was intrigued by the above comment as to my knowledge, sample rates beyond 192khz are reserved for the flagship snapdragon 835 and 845 processors.
I went into a shop and downloaded some 352.8khz samples for 2l.no and to my surprise, not only did they work in google play music, but it sounded great.
Using USB Audio Player plus, I can see that the 352.8khz audio is being downsampled to 192khz for playback by android, I have no idea how the downsampling is done and I would rather it have been downsampled to an exact multiple, but nonetheless at those sample rates, it still sounds great. If you're an audiophille, you'll have an external dac anyway, it's just convenient to be able to play it back.
Dsd dsf files also playback in google play music, and in usb audio player pro, when output to the Android system, they are being output as 24bit 176.4khz.
I accept this as this content is extremely rare, and flagship grade, you're not going to get everything in a midrange phone.
I'll post screenshots and elaborate more on this later.
What I will say is that the headphone output and amp on the N7+ is solid and very decent, it's not as good as the LG Quad Dac on the g7/v30 but it more than does the job for listening to music even on some over ear headphones. It just makes the removal of the headphone jack on many flagship and Apple phones infuriating when you can get hi res audio this easily!

I totally agree with you, The headphone output is so much better in N7+ compared to similar priced devices in market.
I also own an OP2, OP3, OP3t and LgV20 and among all of these LG is on top followed by N7+ which is saying something about this device.
