A few days ago i updated my SGS to Android 2.2. Of course i looked forward to the new flash player and all the functions.
As i saw in some video reviews, i wanted to go to youtube.com, the desktopversion just as on computers. But i always get linked to m.youtube.com, the mobile version. And the videos won't open in the browser, they open in the regular youtube app.
I tried the preinstalled browser, opera and skyfire, none of them worked.
Strangely Kino.to works just fine. I'm able to watch Vids from Megavideo (didn't try other providers).
Does anybody know how to fix the yt problem?
Open the stock browser and see if you can see this option:
MORE>settings>UA STRING
If yes, choose desktop and restart browser and go key in the URL you want to view. It should show you the desktop version of that site
After looking for the uastring settings on the net, i found out that on froyo you have to type "about:useragent" into the adress bar. Then a popup opens and let you choose between various options. Choose Desktop and it works
Thanks you
Either you use that method or install a browser with UA options like what I have. See screenshot.

Which browser is it?
Dolphin and xScope are able to change the User Agent.
So is Skyfire if I remember right.
This is a modified stock browser. I am using doc's v9 btw.

Hi! I need to access this webpage from my X1: http://www.conso.ro/cotatii.html
The page has three JAVA elements that won't show up in Opera 9.5 or Opera Mini 4.2. Trying to open that page with Skyfire will just show me the loading bar fill up to almost 2/3, then nothing.
I'm only interested in the first two JAVA elements - the tables. Is there any way I can see them on my X1, using any software - not necessary the browser?
I just try it on my x1. It's ok to show in IE after I upgrade my phone to wm6.5
Thanks, domchan.
I have WM6.1. In every browser, including IE, I get the message "You must have Java plugin installed and enabled. Please download one from e.g. Sun" inside the page, where the Java elements should have been.
This means that 6.5 has this plugin? Can anyone else confirm?

This is what I can see. Is this ok or you talk abot something else? 6.1 Jack's 3.8Medium ROM with v.15969 of Opera (from his package).
BR!
Nope, not OK. You can try it first on a PC to see the difference. You get the same "You must have a Java plugin installed or enabled...." message three times, where the Java elements should've been.
I attached a picture from a PC browser to see what's missing. I don't care about the flash banners up and right, but I need those Java tables...
you can check http://www.geekzone.co.nz/content.asp?contentid=1974
not sure if it's enough though java applet support is not widely supported
on windows mobile
Found this floating around the web & thought I'd share, they have a very interesting UI it's rather different.
A home app replacement with an easy-to-use interface that delivers previews of social network updates as well as phone services data. Pick a service, such as Facebook or Twitter, to see recent updates. Choose Call History or Contacts to call someone. Use the app launcher cube to quickly find any installed app and launch it.
Based around a single circle of icons, you can control every aspect of your phone with a single screen. Two to be exact The second of which is the screen that holds all your applications in a very slick cube design.

I really don't want to lose Google Chrome just for that, is there an alternative for Chrome to Phone but for chrome?
Read it Later is an excellent app that also has Chrome extensions.
If you go into Tools>Extensions and click Options under Chrome to Phone, what happens?

You can try Springpad. They have a Chrome extension (that you can use to cut and save web pages and make notes right from the omnibar/extension bar and an app (web app) for Chrome. They also have an android app. I use the extension to cut and save web pages and images and send them to my phone (or if I need to, I edit said page or image first in the web app....)

Just thought I'd mention as I cant see it posted anywhere that "Spotify Web" works great on N7 using the latest Firefox browser with flash installed, great now they have dropped the five play restriction on free accounts.

Flash is disabled by default in Firefox, have you enabled it in settings?
Yep that worked for me, I previously had plugins set to tap to activate, changing to enabled did the trick. Brilliant find I can now use my free Spotify account on my tablet without premium to make the app work.
It doesn't work with the the screen off or with Firefox in the background but it's handy none the less.

Forgot to mention there are a few addons for firefox to keep it in desktop mode to save you switching it manually, I'm using the "Desktop by default" addon.
Thanks, this will come in handy for the music I can't find on music unlimited, they had to lift the 5 tune restriction because people went to other premium services for less, got to pull people back in somehow.
Just looked at my playlists in spotify......nearly a year old.

Didn't work for me. Have plugins set to 'enabled' on desktop site, but no go.

I always have the pop up asking me which browser I'd like to open a URL with in Samsung stock email app. It works all the time and I primarily pick Samsung internet when prompted.
However, for emails that I receive from Amazon if I chose Samsung internet as depicted below they still open in Chrome.
Any ideas why ? Thanks.View attachment 4634250

Funny how when asking a question it triggers ones brains to actually look into the matter more. LoL. I think I figured it out in case someone else wanted to know..
It was the below settings defaults menu that I changed to remedy my issue. It was originally set to "in this app" and I changed it to the below "always ask". Now I get prompted again to pick which browser or app to use to open URL with.

I disabled Chrome browser myself. I like the ad blocking and Samsung Pass features available in the Samsung browser.
Glad you figured it out!!
