For some reason, disabling lagfix does not work for me. I am new here and I began about 2 days ago by flashing Assonance v5.0 to my Samsung Captivate. It's really nice and I love it a lot!!!!! But like some of the users who flashed to it, it's kinda using up my battery. So I'm taking up a suggestion to install JL3 Modem + xCal 2.1.1. First though, I must disable lagfix.
I reboot into Clockwork recovery and go through the steps: (advanced SpeedMod ULK features>LAGFIX options>Disable lagfix) Then I reboot, then click Restore with Backup. I have done this about 3 times and it doesn't seem to disable. I am assuming that it will stop displaying "Disable lagfix" once it's disabled and display something like "enable lagfix instead". So maybe it really has been disabled? idk, thanks for the help so far, I've been really impressed! Also, somewhere in the process, I lost all my apps, configuration (accounts, sync), and contacts. But I have those backed up so no worries about data loss.
Here are my old posts in the Assonance thread, but I felt like I was hijakcing it with my "can't disable lagfix" hijinks. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=856877&page=204
Sent you a pm. I think it its disabled but you do not realize it.

I had a felling that was the case. Was just waiting for someone to say, "oh it does that all the time". Well I might try it when I get out of work. What would happen if I flashed the modem thing without disabling it first ...
Worst case you get stock in boot loop and have to flash stock with odin. I do not think out is likely though.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
Well, I flashed both of them and nothing really happened ... it booted as normal. I guess it has been applied? Is there anyway to verify. Otherwise thanks, I guess it was disabled ... just wanted to make sure I suppose.
Look for a folder on your sd that says voodoo.
Go to settings, about phone, baseband. What does it say.
Boot back into recovery. Does it bring you to a blue lettered recovery
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
Yes recovery is blue, there are only four options. I got there by pressing "go to recovery 2e" or something like that.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
You have the new kernel.
You should still have the update zip from rom manager saved to your sd. If you do not open rom manager and flash clockwork recovery. When in the blue menu select reinstall packages, will have to do this twice, should bring you to green clockwork recovery. You no longer have all of the same options in recovery.
To disable your current lagfix navigate to your voodoo folder on your sd. Create a folder inside named disable-lagfix. Reboot.

I'm trying to update to official 2.2 to return the phone to warranty but its not updating. The progress bar gets to about 3/4 of the way then it says the upgrade could not be completed. Anyone know why?

did you get the phone with stock 2.2? If not I would just flash back to stock jf6 as that erases any trace of custom ROMs (from what I've read).. and even if the phone came with 2.2 it may not matter if they get it back and it's 2.1. Beats me, just a thought.

They don't keep track of what version the phone was on when it was sent. Simply use Odin3 one clck downloader and it will clear everything that would void your waranty.

I'm not new to this sort of stuff either. I used odin one time on my phone with no issues what so ever. my wife just had to make a warranty claim on her phone and we just got the replacement, asked her if she wanted me to root and put cognition on and she said sure
Well it had stock 2.2 on it and it wouldn't install clockwork recovery. upon reading that it was the update causing the problem I figured id just use odin to take the phone back to 2.2. I used a brand new charge cable I've only had for 3 weeks and things started fine but eventually the screen went black and odins progress bar stopped moving... 15 mins went by and nothing was happening... so I knew it was messed up and I unplugged it...
And $125 later I have an ins replacement on the way. Understand that I've been doin this for six months and this is the first time I've ever had a problem... so what happened? major hit to my confidence here!

Your prob is due to the new phones that come with 2.2 don't always work with one click Odin. Should use the recovery work around for it instead
should of known....ugh... wish I would of known this yesterday I would of been $125 richer and minus one angry wife. What about my phone now? its runing cognition 4.4.2. In light of what's happened I'm thinking about going back to stock myself and staying there... Will odin work on my phone or is there another way?

you could use the Odin one click for JH6, that'll take you back to eclair and you can use the Kies mini to update to 2.2 KB1
or...
you could use full odin to flash the 2.3.3 basic theres a great TUT for it. let me grab some links...

if your going to choose the gingerbread path make sure you READ a lot.
And I wouldn't lose to much confidence over it. If you look at some of the "big shots" they usually have hard-bricked a captivate.
Thanks for the reply... yeah my confidence is bruised but its hard to turn back now. Just def don't ever wanna find myself in this situation ever again. I am interested in going to gingerbread, in fact very interested. I've started to look into it I'm gonna read more before I make the big jump.

Next time, (hopefully there won't be a next time for you) you should first hit up samsung warranty first. If you have att, try them before samsung. I hard bricked my phone, sent it to samsung, they fixed it, no charge and sent it back. It took about 12 days, but it was FREE. Just an fyi.

What happens if your running a gingerbread rom with updated bootloaders and you decide that you want to go back to froyo and elair. Is your only option odin one click to restore the bootloaders?, what if your captivate is one of those unlucky ones that like to brick with odin one click? Would you be stuck on gingerbread?
You can use 2.2 roms with gb bootloaders, they are backwards compatible. Just make sure there are no bootloaders in the rom you flash.

Oh I see thanks.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
Wait so if i flashed gingerbread bootloaders and my phone is not compatible with odin one click, is there no way to get back onto froyo/eclair bootloaders? I understand that you can still flash froyo roms without bootloaders but you can always make a mistake and flash froyo bootladers bricking your phone.
You can use the regular JH6 flash back just not the one with the three button mod, this is because the three button mod replaces 1 out of 2 bootloaders and they won't match but the JH6 only replaces both (or none not sure) and they do match

Check stuff from studacris on this forum. He's very knowledgeable and helpful. I saw somewhere where he wrote about using odin one click to flash stock with any build. You'll get a bootloop, or a soft brick, and then put in download and flash the jf6 secure with odin. That way you have boots and stock. Don't quote me on any of this. I'm going off memory and might have some of this wrong. Don't want anyone mad at me for the wrong info. Just read into his posts, before trying any of this. You'll definitely learn a lot.

sounds like you have a later build phone that doesnt like odin one click...thats all your gonna get out of it is a bootloop
get into download mode and use this package:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=995143
if you go to gingerbread and want to revert back to stock bootloaders you will have to use one click, even though you will end up in a bootloop and then use the package i posted to get it up and running completly sotck.

Hi, I got a new captivate today, which had 2.2 pre-installed and tried rooting it. Tried a few update.zips to root it, but it wouldn't root it, due to the e-signature error. Using the AIO Captivate toolbox, I tried flashing the 2.1 JF6 stock, so that I could root and install Froyo ROM's. I'm pretty sure the 2.1 JF6 stock flash went fine, but my phone refuses to boot in. It just shows the AT&T screen and restarts and continues this loop.
Can anyone please suggest what I could do to fix this ? I'm trying to get this into download mode and I have the jig. But, after getting it into download mode, what should I do next? Is there a way I can install the stock 2.2 that came pre-installed with the phone ?

Try the jig
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA Premium App
Sounds like a build 1010 captivate..
...The jig is the only way that you can get back to DL mode if it is. look at the sticker under the battery and see if it is a build 1010, if it is you won't be able to go back to JF6, you'll have to use the full Odin and go back to JH2 first then root with update.zip then CWM flash the JH7 .zip file that you can find in the dev forum posted by Designgears I believe or you can just use kies mini to go back to stock 2.2 after you flash JH2.
Yea I'm trying the jig, but strangely it doesn't work

OK will try that tomorrow maybe
But, just for the sake of knowledge, where can I find an update.zip that can root stock 2.2 on newer captivates ? I tried all almost 3-4 of them from this forum, but strangely none of them worked. It was my inability to root stock 2.2, that made me try getting to 2.1 JF6 using one-click.
Consensus is super one click

Super one click to root stock froyo. That's it. Unless you wanna odin speedmod boot into recovery and apply root that way. By then you would need to flash another modem.

While I'm thinking about it, I wanted to ask a question. I had to revert back to the stock ROM, and went to re-add root and Safestrap 2.10. All went well with the install, but when I went to enable the Safe System, and I rebooted, the phone did the POST (Motorola symbol), got to the SafeStrap splash, then the screen went blank. None of the keys would do anything, and the only way I could make anything happen, was to pull the battery. I had to go back into Safestrap, and disable it again. Anyone else experience this?

The kexec ICS from 8/6 is surprising stable for me. I've been running it for nearly a week and while I've had some reboots and a couple of freezes that required a battery pull, it's run better than I expected.
I have had the problem with leaving bluetooth on and answering a call without a headset - no audio until BT turned off.
Also, as advertised, no camera. Another note, the car dock USB audio doesn't work.
I've even scripted a mount to keep the Play Music directory on the external SD card and mass storage mount on the computer works better than stock with the mount in place. Internal sd doesn't mount though.
