i only see stuff for one carrier on here, telus. i have my milestone through appalachian wireless. i remember on my hero i rooted it and if you flashed a sprint rom it would mess up your prl and i couldnt get a 3g connection after that. so am i good to root my appalachian wireless milestone?
Yes, you just need to use this tool: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=747598
It's very simple with it
what about my prl and radio settings? when i rooted my hero it messed all of that up
With that application you don't need to flash any ROM, so it won't mess up the things
okay but, is there any rom i could flash that wont mess up anything?

I have a non sprint unbranded HTC Hero (through GCI in alaska). Does anyone know if a non-sprint htc hero can flash a sprint rom and still work on a non sprint network? I have been using the leaked modified ROMs such as damage control and fresh just fine but I was told using the sprint one may jack up my phone. Since the customized ROMs are now being based off that I am worried about downloading any new ROMs or the official sprint one. Anyone happen to know?
THANK YOU!

This is more or less belongs in the q&a section. But to answer your question yes it will. You will have to get your apn settings and manually program them in your phone. But everything else should work. I would suggest you use the flashrec method and make a nandroid then try apn manager to see if you can just put your apn settings on your new rom
I am still new to CDMA phones. When you say APN settings do you mean the settings the carrier puts in when they program it at the desk. Such as the MIN # and such?
And when you say flash rec method, you mean copying over the ROM file to the SD card and doing the whole power+volume then pressing home and flashing from feature thing?
And if thats the case, does that mean ill have to use one of these custom ROMs here and not the sprint one? (I havent tried installing the sprint one but in the past its usually an executible and runs itself)
Thx for answering all my noob question, someone else did the rooting for my phone and im slowly learning. Never been too great at the phone thing.
I just reread your first post and you say that you've used damages rom and not had any problems then you should be good to use any rom just make sure to do a nandroid backup before you do anything else

I've really been doing this whole root thing because I wanted 2.1 early, but now that sprint has released an official one id really like to use it. Do you think its safe to use the official one on my non sprint hero?
Thx again for all your help, im just worried about bricking my phone or making it unusable on my network.
I just bought a Droid X and had it fully flashed to Cricket, now, my question is this: if I flash Froyo will I have to redo all the settings for Cricket so my mms, gps, and internet work? The only reason I am asking is because I didn't flash this phone myself and wouldn't know where to begin even though I have flashed several Hero phones.
Thanks for any input or advice.
I updated my rom to UD7 but before I did that I pulled all of the .apk files that I would need off of my phone so I could install them on the new rom. After the rom was installed I then installed apnbackup and restored my old working apn files to the new rom and everything works just fine. This might not be the correct way of doing things, but it seemed to work for me.
Is there a 2.2 rom that will work with my Alltel Milestone? If so, what is the best one? I've been searching the forums, but I am still a bit confused as to which roms will work with my phone. If I am correct, the Alltel Milestone is basically a Droid, while the UK Milestone actually has different hardware. I am going crazy not being able to use flash, and it looks like the official Froyo 2.2 update may be a while, if it ever gets it.

I'm looking for the same info
The alltel milestone can run verizon droid roms, however you need to backup your apn settings w/ APN manager and then restore them in your new rom to get your mms working. DO NOT Flash a verizon baseband file or SBF file as this will make your phone not work on your network. I suggest reading everything you can b4 undertaking this as I have seen numerous ppl post that they flashed the baseband and now own a music player instead of a phone.

Verizon and altel are the same now. VZW bought them a few years ago.
I purchased a phone that was suppose to be setup for verizon, i got it home and found out it had been rooted and set up for criket.
after many hours of reading and searching i have the phone flashed back to factory settings, but, when i dial *228 to program for verizon it still calls criket.
I was told i need to flash the antenna ?? or something like that...
can someone help me with this.. thanks
have you flashed the stock sbf?
follow these instructions
i cant post links, wtf
instead of flashing the 2.1sbf file listed there you can use the 2.2 file from this site
i cant post links, wtf
the radios are also listed there, i've been told you need to flash the radios in order, meaning you can't just start at the last one, you need to flash each one seperately. BUT i have no idea how to flash a radio on a stock phone, so if i were you i'd attempt the spf flash with rsd lite, then root the phone and install sprecovery, then install the radios one at a time.
I had the same issue and went to Verizon today and had them flash the stock Froyo using RSD Verizon software. Make sure you enable USB debugging first.

OMG... i was told i had to have the phone rooted.. i just got done rooting it again
so... it needs to be un-rooted for me to take it to verizon to get it working on there network ?
No need to unroot; just bring the phone to Verizon and they can restore it back to the original 2.2.
okay so im on appalachian wireless with their version of the droid. i had a hero before and rooted it/ flashed roms on it and it would mess up the prl settings but i could still text/make calls. My droid is rooted and i wanna flash a rom would my texting and voice still work on it or would i have to do somthing to get it to work?
