Hi!
Inspired by kuklux, I created an amibios-like bootanimation from scratch...
I hope you like it!
It installs in SYSTEM:CUSTOMIZE/RESOURCE/ DIR, so it might not be compatible with all ROMs...

BTW, this belongs in the Legend Themes & Apps-board imo
edit- oh yeah forgot, its work well btw ;-)

Nice, why does everybody put nice animations into the Legend "frame"?
I honestly can't figure this out...
Dr. Romca, just installed your boot animation on rooted stock Froyo rom and it didn't work at all.

I thought there would be ROMs with different locations of bootanimation.
Can you post a link of the ROM? Or better yet, can you tell me where the bootanimation.zip is in your ROM?
(other than in SYSTEM:customize/resource/ - that would be the one you flashed by my zip)

In the following location /system/customize/resource I can find:
splash1_HTC_Branding_320x480.gif - which is the HTC logo and
HTC_Legend_VF_Start_ani.gif - that is the Vodafone boot animation.
Also there is a file 'bootanimation' in /system/bin but it has no file extension.
Hmm, seems like you might need the bootanimation from bin (ELF file that runs the boot sequence) as well..
Can you post the ROM DL link? I'd like to look at it and make another version
EDIT: Does THIS ONE work?

I looked in the ROM, and there is bootanimation.zip in the system/customize/resource, so I have no idea why it doesn't work.
I'll try to port the bootanimation file from bin to this rom and see what happens...
So!
I ported the bootanimation ELF file from the MoDaCo r1 release to the unOfficial WWE (since it is ripped from the same OTA) and it works just fine with the bootanimation
I will create installable zip later today...
EDIT: I just compared the two "bootanimation" files and found out that they are exactly the same! Anyone any suggestions? Thanks!

Installed the latest boot animation .zip. Installed via RomManager. Still getting the Vodafone boot animation... weird Do I need to do something else before flashing the .zip?
No, it is not weird! You just need to configure the right source! Check /system/customize/CID/*.xml and change bootanimation according to your needs.
And don't just assume or guess or rely on wizardry or god's will, just fire up adb logcat sometimes...

Good to know! Thanks! What is wierd is that I DL'd thw WWE unOfficial ROM, installed the bootanimation and it worked just fine, so krasenk must have modified the file somehow...
(ps: don't beat me up, I just started to mess up with the phone two weeks ago and I'm a win user... not even a programmer)
@ krasenk: you're looking for this:
Code:
<BootAnimation
animation="/system/customize/resource/bootanimation.zip" />
@ BlaY0: there are some HTC and Vodafone xml's, do you know what happens if I delete them and leave only the default.xml? Thanks!

Those are CID dependent configs. If your phone's CID is let say VODAP102, then VODAP102.xml is used for localizded configuration of your phone. if you phone has different CID than those listed in /system/customize/cid_map.xml, then default.xml is used...
a guy can allways learn! Thanks BlaY0!

Thanks a lot to phaelox, who made the zip attached for you to flash, without him, this bootscreen wouldnt work!
I made this bootscreen because I felt that villainROM is so good it seserves its own bootscreen, and I im kina sick of the nexus one boot
Hope everyone likes it, If you want a version with a custom tagline, or have any ideas for a bootscreen that you would like to see, just ask and I will get back to you.
This bootscreen took quite a while to make (photoshop + gifs = frustration)
and was more fiddly than I though it would be, So all thanks are MUCH appreciated
Nice one. Will see about getting this added to the Online Kitchen as an option
Thanks! that would be really great, didnt expect that!
Wow i love it, just about to try and flash it. Stylish little addition to an already great ROM. Good job.

did it work?
Well, ive just updated to the latest villainRom, and flashed that same zip again, and it works, so i presume it is ok. I know it wont work on not sense based 2.1 roms, because they have there bootscreen in a different place. However, due to the VillainROM branding on the bootscreen, i dont imagine that will be a problem
I have made one just like yours, that I'm thinking of using with my theme, if that's ok with you.
Wait for the entire animation to load. It'll run more smoothly.
Looks nice, but will need heavilly optimising, notice how mine loads quick? thats cause the gif is really small. Cut down the colour pallate, dithering to max in photoshop "save for web and devices" leave it as it is and it will stutter badley on your hero, and may not even manage ro run properly before the phone boots...
Still, I dont mind you using my concept, I would like to see everyone elses creations!

Firstly, I don't use Photoshop to make my bootscreens. Secondly, I know how to optimize them. I have made mine as bootanimation.zip, as they tend to run smoother than the gifs, and it run perfectly on my Hero.
Nice work Tristan

Hi
tristan202 is there a guide on how to create these boot screens, I was looking to play around with one or two such as the HTC Quietly Brilliant. Would it involve re-signing a bootanimation zip? (I have managed to find a few from other ROMS)
Tried flashing this to Villian 4beta2 but it's not coming up. I noticed that my bootscreen files are in a bootanimation.zip and are all .png files, whereas this is gif in a directory.
Any help here would be hot

If you're running a 2.1 rom, the bootscreen is in a different format. Flashing a cupcake bootscreen won't do anything then. You'd need to convert it to the new format first.

Just found it a little strange that a boot screen made for VillianROM doesn't work on it. Trying to convert it myself but most of the tutorials regarding boot screens that I find contain information on using gifs. Anyone able to help me find one for a 2.1 boot screen?
Thanks

PHAELOX has converted a G1 bootscreen to the Hero so he'd be able to do what you want,.... go here --> [Bootscreen] Android Supernova for Hero ... and ask nicely, Im sure he'd be willing to help.
Love it!
Maybe not as smooth as official VillainROM bootscreen (strange jump between begin and looping animation), but definetly way way more cooler
(Those candyblue colors are just disgusting..)
Maybe better one to compare would be Supernova. Well this wins, but barely because this is not as smooth.
Please make it smooth and it will rule 'em all

Hello I don't have a hero but wanted to try this out. When I opened the zip fle, it contains metadata for mac (the __MACOSX folder). Does this affect flashing on your heros?
PS.
I'll actually create my own recovery .zip file but i'm curious about that..

That will probably work but there's no need to delete other files than the original bootanimation.zip or if you want it to work for every ROM the bootanimation.zip in all directories where it could be (did that make sense?) (Can't test it since i'm running Cronos Froyo...)

This is the boot animation from the special edition Star Wars R2D2 Droid. Taken from here:
http://www.mydroidworld.com/forums/...r2d2-bootanimation-sounds-pack.html#post31112
THIS IS FOR WVGA DEVICES (IE: N1)... FOR THE HVGA VERSION GO HERE.
The top has been cropped off to keep as much of R2D2 as possible.
The Droid and Star Wars logos have been removed.
This boot animation has 3 parts, and needed to be consolidated into 2 for the HVGA version to work correctly. I don't know if the WVGA version requires it too.
I have no device to test on, if it doesn't work properly, please let me know.

lol. that's ok. We will forgive you just this once.
Got this running on my HD2 android 2.2 Bangsters 1.3a rom. I used ES File Explorer as a free alternative to root explorer.
As others have posted, it is quite slow. I'll be keeping it anyways because it is still way cool.
What determines how well these boot animations run? Does it have to do with the speed of the device or what?
Ok, try one of these. "Signed" is flashable in recovery, the other is install by ADB or terminal only.

Hi!
I've made a dark downanimation.zip (animation while phone is switching off) to replace the stock one from HTC. It's like the original one, but on dark background, to go with the dark splash screen and bootanimation that's floating around in the ARHD rom thread. Tested in my Desire HD (480x800). Don't know if someone else had already made this, but I couldn't find any...
Install Instructions:
OPTION 1:
Open root explorer, rename the file darkdownanimation.zip to downanimation.zip and paste it in /system/customize/resource. Then define permissions to rw-r--r--, like this:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
OPTION 2:
Flash the darkdownanimation-flashable.zip in CWM.
Feel free to use it and comment on it! Thanks to Dude360 for making the flashable zip!

Thank you all! Probably you're looking for it in the SD card. In root explorer, select the ".." to go up a level and the system folder is there. Don't forget to select "mount r/w" before pasting the file.
Absolutely awesome downanimation. Using it now!
This one should be flashable, havnt had chance to try it yet myself though so let me know and Ill remake it if not.
Quick splash screen question, are they 'permanent' or do they revert back to the white HTC every time I reflash?
I flash roms quite a lot and usually incorporate boot/down anis in the rom cleaner script. Never dealt with splash screens before.
Cheers

Mad thanks to my man Illinois08 for helping me with sound on the project!
I would like to give a huge shoutout to KiloJKilo! Your donation means so much and shows our work is appreciated! Thank you again!
And before anyone says anything, Yes somebody has made one like this before but I have made my own edition from scratch and the other one I have seen was elongated instead of portrait, which mine is. I also added a sound version. So this is not stealing from original creator because I made my own.
Now, I have 2 versions. One with Sound and one without.
Download your choice from below.
Place on SD.
Reboot to recovery.
Install zip.
Reboot and enjoy!

It is not EC05. It is DK28. Is that the problem?

xbox boot with sound.zip. Yes, the generic shiny android logo.

How did you dl... like xda app or from computer?
it was designed and working on EC05 so it could be a DK28 issue...

I used the QR code to download it. I've tried other ways as well. So it would seem that there could be an issue with the ec/dk. That would imply that dk28 handles the bootanimation.zip differently? I compared the desc.txt file to one that works on my phone and could not really find any difference. But I have an untrained eye. Has anyone else with a DK28 rom had any success with this? I copied the bootanimation from the zip over directly and fiddled with the resolution and frame rates to no avail. If I put the FPS to 30, I get a black screen instead of the stock android.
Guess what? I just got it to work. I extracted the bootanimation.zip out of your original file and copied it to system/media, rebooted. Win.

The desc is going to be for the most part similar across all android devices except for screen size and frame rate. If you edit my desc from the boot zip you will get a black screen. You would have to extract everything and edit and rezip.
As long as bootanimation.zip is going to system/media... there shouldn't be an issue.
If you get a black screen there is something wrong with the bootanimation.zip and if you get android logo something went wrong with flash or your system pushing to system/media.

Awesome! Glad you got it!
Perhaps users from dk28 should manually put the files in the apropriate folders. I want to thank you for this screen. It looks nice on my epic. Thanks for your hard work

Wow! Thank you so much for the donation. It truly means a lot!
Im so happy you like it!!! Thanks for supporting us! I added a shoutout to you in OP!
I had some trouble using this. When I installed through CWM it only applied the sound and not the boot animation. The sound also cutoff halfway through and was all static after that.
Had to use a file manager to wipe it out since installing a boot animation over this one wouldnt work.

You might try extracting the bootanimation.zip and copying it to system/media. Cwm3 did not work for me either as you see above. If the sound continues to give you trouvke, I'd just manually apply it as well.
