JK2_modem.zip - Vibrant Android Development

I created this package this morning, as jk6 was really draining my battery, a lot more than jk2. It is CWM flashable.

Thanks so much. I just flashed it and will see what happens. Once again thanks for the kind gift.

No problem, tested it this morning and didn't have any issues reverting, to and from jk6.

Funny how it is different for different people but I tested both and the battery life is almost exactly the same. If there is a difference it is too small to be noticeable by me I guess.

For me, it was huge difference, dropping 2-3% with jk2, with jk6, 10% per hour.

Weird. I would like to know why results differ. Other people have reported better battery life on JK2 also.
One other thing I noticed is the wifi calling app on JK6 actually works now like it is supposed to. It automatically fires up when you connect to wifi and does it's thing without any fuss. Pretty neat if you ask me and it really extends your battery life too. That is a really great feature add! Especially if you are like me and cell coverage isn't so good inside you house. I don't have to go outside to make calls anymore!
Using the JK2 modem broke that and it went back to acting all whack just like on the JK2 ROM. So I am thinking the issue of the wifi calling app not working right on the Vibrant was actually the fault of the modem. I am not sure actually but test it and see if you get the same results.

I can't disagree with you on this one. I am also running a jk2 based ROM, so I am sure that has a lot to do with it.

i haven't really tried the JK6 for a long time but i think my battery life will not be good as JK2. in JK6 it's showing that all my applications are using more cpu usage than usual.

I noticed the battery drain with jk6 as well, but I kept the modem the same because the jk6 one seems more reliable. I flashed back to the stock jk2 kernel and jk6 everything else. Great battery life and not a freeze or fc since I did it.

I have ran both JK2 and JK6 and battery life is about the same, the only thing is that at work I got better reception with JI2. Since the new froyo builds came out my internet connection has been horrible at work :-( oh well ill just deal with it.

Why is Captivate extremely hot

My girlfriend and i both have captivates and she said hers was getting hot. I didnt think of anything as all phones get a little warm while charging. However when i grabbed it last night, it was so hot it could have burnt my hand. It feels hotter than most dinner plates at resturaunts. New battery does the same thing. What could it be? Two bad batteries?
Sent from my SPH-P100 using Tapatalk
If it's still under warranty, I would suggest taking it back in to AT&T. (If you've modded it, make sure it's back at stock first, of course.) It sounds like a hardware issue, and if you explain it to them, they might swap it out for you with one that doesn't behave that way.
Someone else may be able to offer a different/better solution, but if you've got hardware getting that hot, that signals to me that it's going to be trouble down the line, and it's better to take care of it now.
Not under warranty. Took in to store and att rep said something inside smells like its melting.

Battery life sucks. Rom is stock froyo rooted. battery life was worth with other custom roms and stock seemed best since shes not into the whole modding scene like me. I think were just going to get her a samsung infuse probably.

Yes. Possible solution: turn down call volume. What I think is happening: the mic for noise cancellation is actually being used as a call mic. That plus the speaker being louder is causing the callers to hear themselves with a cell delay. Maybe.
Sent from my almost cm7 p925
Yea. Arcee, in my opinion has made the best rom for the Thrill. May still be buggy but its amazing. And I myself at least don't have any problems with battery life. And with ICS and CM9 on the way, things are only gonna get better.
I got the phonecall echo as well. CM7 SK3 had a dark green camera issue as well, waiting for the next version to try it again. Rdannar did some great work for us, and as sad as it is to lose him, we still have many excellent development cooking up new software for this model, and it's only going to get better, especially with ICS getting a lot of O3D experimentation. Don't look down, friends- look forward!

No more hope?

I'm getting ready to dump this sob of a phone... I mean the battery sucks so bad, I cant go a full day without it dying on me and I hardly ever use it, I'll lock my phone and look at it like 10 min later, when no apps are even running and i'll be down quite a bit of battery (I've had to tone down usage A LOT coming from an Atrix 4g, I could go a couple days with some heavy use and not have to charge it, and now it seems like whenever I get the chance I have no choice but to throw this phone on a charger)
Besides the fact of a poor battery, I've always hated LG, they have crap for customer service and phone support, I figured something might change with this phone, but nope...
I was hoping for a GB update soon, but looks like those dreams are crushed after reading something on LG forums saying they probably won't release a GB update EVER! LG and ATT can go die...
Also the community for the thrill is relativity small and it seems like Dev's have very little to offer or gave up on this phone all together...
I figured I'm going to jump back on board with the Atrix 4G or 2... I'm undecided as of right now
So this is goodbye to everyone else who is in this community and noticed my little efforts in helping Peace

Well besides all the other reasons, did you try getting a different battery. I have no problem getting over a day's life of battery out my thrill with medium useage. The only thing that really kills it are the 3d games. Stock 2.2.2, rooted with about half of AT&ts bloat ware removed. I read somewhere (not sure where) about bad batteries shipped with a lot of these phones.
Yeah, the upgrade part and lack of support are downers, but overall this phone really is good. My uncle got the new Droid Razer and my phone out performed it on all the benchmark tests that we compared head to head.
At the very least, Rogers releasing GB is a sure sign ATTs GB has to be right around the corner.
Captivate (July 2010 release - updated to froyo 8 months later)
Infuse (May 2011 release - updated to gb 8 months later)
See the pattern......it's all at&!
Well I did that Rogers GB update... aside from the huge headache it took to get on my phone and all the crap apps from Rogers and what not...its a solid update. The battery is by far better I can tell you that for sure I'm happy and might just stay with this phone if it holds up tomorrow and on Tuesday...
Its so much smoother and my internet is blazing fast compared to froyo, for those who haven't tried this, I suggest you do so ASAP.

Pros vs cons of zv8 update

Those who have updated to zv8, what are the pros/cons of the actual update? Outside of losing GV goodness, what has your experience been?
Sent from my VS910 4G using xda premium
Cons none.
The only reason for GV for me was battery life and debinged. Battery life has just about doubled with this update. So I can give a **** about going without bing. I'm not even rooted and don't miss the over clock or anything, the phone has been rock solid. I will check out the latest from MT and I appreciate his work, so I know the next release from him based off this update with be the ****. The root method for now is just ....ok I'm that lazy, there I said it

We're you using standard or extended battery?
I have not had any rebooting issues but I have only had vz8 on for a day. I don't know about battery life but I will keep monitoring it. I hope that it is better as I would only have 2 hours of actual usage but it I did not use my phone, the battery would be 70% after about 10 hours. I hope this update improves battery life during usage. This was on stock battery.
I was using GV1.3 as GV2.0 would drain my battery very fast. If I was not using my phone, GV2.0 would drain it to almost nothing is a few hours. It was horrible. This was because of the over clocking of the CPU and even if I dialed it down to close to stock, I still had battery issues.
I haven't had battery, reboot or screen issues with mine. I use the extended battery and even with moderate to heavy use, I can make it all day with no charger and if I have light use, I could probably go closer to 2 days. I do like the feel of the stock case as opposed to the extended, so if battery life is much better, it could be worth the update. I am still on GV2.0 and my phone is very smooth. Also wondering if anyone noticed better signal strength on the network or with their wifi.
I haven't had any issues yet with ZV8... I updated, rooted, deodexed, removed bing and all the bloatware. My stock battery is at nearly 17 hours with heavy use and im at 15%

My signal has been amazing, previous versions I would have a hard time staying connected to 3g/4g at my home (I live between 2 mountains). Now I switch occasionally between 3 and 4g but never cannot connect to a network. Wifi doesn't seen to have changed much for me, at least as far as range is concerned.

I'm hearing a lot of praise in losing GV to zv8, but do you lose your Google Navigation? Long Press Search? Google Voice Commands?
Those things make any sort of an update a no-go if that's the case.

Ok... I installed ADW Launcher and it uses Google Search, but long press on search does nothing. I've searched a little and found nothing... Any tips?
So when updating to ZV8, we can keep root but not have CWM correct? Can someone please clarify this for me. I know there are instructions on how to save root from V7 to V8, but is there a way to flash CWM either manually through adb or another method? Do we lose GV due to CWM not being available, or it is mainly because the new updates don't exist in GV at the moment. I'm sorry if I seem confusing in any way. I just got my Revolution yesterday and have been used to working with the development of an HTC Droid Incredible 2. Thanks in advance!
mtmichaelson made an All In One to retain root and CWM. I haven't tried it myself but here's the thread in the Dev section.

Odexed is pure stock. More difficult to mod unless the dev puts out both versions. It is supposedly faster also. Never could tell a difference in speed. But I like to stay close to stock so I always run odexed and odex all of my work. Deodexed is good for modding and theming since you only have to do things once. It is also a little smaller in size. Again supposedly a little slower, like starting apps. Also more difficult to get things working right at times. Like Google Wallet working on my Odexed Rom but not on Deodexed.
I am sure if you Google them you will find much better answers than what I have provided.

This bloody thing didn't save anything really, just annoyed me by turning off things i set to autosync and etc. Used to use it on my S3 when it first leaked months ago and broomed it fast when i noticed i wasn't receiving emails and such anymore. Apparently it turns off what it "thinks" is not necessary, like email accounts i set to check every hour. After a few days of no email, which i found weird, i went into my email settings and this silly app had turned off sync and set it to manual amongst other annoyances. I never really noticed any battery savings anyway.
