EDIT: Keyboard for sense ROMS on page 5. Here is fabolous' gingerbread keyboard (best one out). Flash through clockwork; replaces stock android keyboard. Use at own risk.
http://www.droidforums.net/forum/droid-applications/103389-mod-gingerbread-2-3-keyboard-w-working-predictions.html
The most accurate how-to for installing the Gingerbread keyboard on rooted 2.2 devices is at this link on BriefMobile. The ROM linked there has been fixed to include auto-correct. It works wonderfully on my Aria.
NOTE: Go to the Android Market and install the new Voice Search first. AppBrain will not recognize the update - go straight to the Market page and install the new version, THEN go to CWM Recovery, Nandroid backup, then flash the keyboard ROM.
nice going, can't believe the keyboard from 2.3 is already out...works great
It's a huge improvement, especially having common punctuation marks appear above the main QWERTY keys, and the spacing between keys. Not to mention the darker background provides better contrast, especially with low backlight settings.
Also just got Fabolous's fixed version working. His version includes autocorrect, vs. the version featured on LifeHacker.com, which I couldn't even install (status 0 error message).
Also FYI, the punctuation above the keyboard was also present in the 2.2 keyboard on CyanogenMod 6.0-6.1.

You need to be able to open that in a browser, then read the first post of that thread and, specifically, take note of the 'requirements' listed
hahahah @ zervic!
I just installed this, I am kind of on the fence with it. It seems the predictions are not as good as they used to be with the other keyboard!
Hey, I'm having issues installing this one. Running CM 6.1. I cannot place files into my root folder. I have no issues booting into CWM recovery and installing things, but if it's installed from outside the root folder you get an error 0. So how do I place the damn zip in the root folder? I can't touch the folder with Astro File Manager or even Droid Explorer. Even w/ root

heya,
I've just updated to FRF83, following the excellent instructions here:
http://www.nexusoneforum.net/forum/...ussion/7103-update-froyo-2-2-frf83-frf72.html
I've got an official build of Swype, from their beta program, and I've just noticed that after my reboot, it doesn't seem to work.
When you try to swype something the border to the keyboard flashes blue once, then nothing happens. I switched Input Method to Android Keyboard, then back to Swype, still no difference.
Is anybody who has Swype and has upgraded to FRF83 able to verify this?
Cheers,
Victor
I had this issue when I switched to an FRF72 build. The way I fixed was to uninstall Swype, then use the installer stub you can get from their website to re-download and install the keyboard.
I think you have to reinstall. Thats exactly when i upgraded to FRF72, just reinstall swype by following the instructions on how to do so on the Swype web site.
Err, did u try uninstalling swype and reinstalling it from the swype installer?
Reinstall swype with the inataller and it will work fine

i think if you use the "full update.zip", some library will be delete.. also the LWPs of Galaxy S goes in FC with the full update, just reinstall or copy the missing libs fix the problem
Quick tip: If you are one of the hackables who used pm setInstallLocation = 2 to allow SD card installation, then the Swype install will automagically go to your SD card. Not good. Make sure you go to manage applications and move it back to the phone. Otherwise the phone will forget you enabled Swype at every reboot.
Thank god swype still works... Just went 1 day w/out swype and i felt the crunch...

I'm running on Dragon RC4 ROM and just uninstalled mine through titanium backup and then went to the beta.swype.com web site and registered and went through the whole process of getting the newest beta swype installer and then newest beta swype...success
Yeah, check forum. lowyat.net under the same nick.
Swyped from my Froyo-ed Captivate.
Thanks everyone, I removed swype with TiBu and the Beta then installed perfectly. I did do a reboot after uninstall and before new install.
I removed swype.apk and libswypecor thing via root explorer.
Then I went to the website and got my swype installer.
I opened the installer and logged in.
Clicked the full version.
It said downloading.
Then it went to the package installer.
I clicked install.
It said installing.
Then it says application not installed.
What's wrong with my phone
UPDATE: it somehow worked when i did it again. Now i have swype. But it still doesnt let me swype. I can only press on each letter for typing. If i swype the edges flash a blue light.... Help....

it did not install completely. or did not install at all and you still have the previous apk. try to download uninstaller root app from the market it's much simpler to do, once uninstall install swype again.
I was using serendipity v5.12, this morning swype popped up saying my trial period had expired. Is this because of the ROM? Is there a way to get it back. It's a legit app that comes with the phone so I figured I could find it somewhere.

I just ran into the same problem this morning.
You'll need to manually remove Swype & run the installer from them. You'll also need an account for the Beta. It's free to register.
remove Swype.apk from /system/app
remove libSwypecore.so from /system/lib
I had to reboot in order for the install to complete, so do that now
grab the installer from here using your phone's browser
run the installer, which will download the new version & install it
You'll lose the nifty themed version that came w/your ROM, of course, but someone who knows & is nice enough may include instructions on how to change that in this thread.

This CWM .zip has apk and so files dated 2/16/2011. Flashed it, and it is still expired. (What was there to lose?)
But one thing we can learn from it, looking at the update script file, is a couple additional things to delete:
delete SYSTEM:app/Swype.apk
delete SYSTEM:lib/libSwypeCore.so
delete_recursive DATA:data/com.swype.android.inputmethod
delete_recursive DATADATA:databases/com.swype.android.inputmethod

Happened to me yesterday on 5.12 too....but I just went to 6.1 this morning and it seems to be working.
Same here, says configured for a different device. I have been attempting to download the beta and have been getting a installation incomplete message repeatedly. I uninstalled swype with TiBu. I guessing that I should have used adb to remove it along with the libswypecore file . I have not seen this file to uninstall thus the adb thought.

6.1 has an updated Swype. Does this fix ya'lls problems? It seems to be working for me....
May not be 100% correct but the developers have been using Swype beta in their ROMs and when a new beta update comes along the old beta expires, which is what we're experiencing. It's early in this process so I would expect the devs will get their hands on the new beta to update their ROMs or provide a file to correct this issue. Those of us with a little tech savv have been attempting to get the updated beta directly. You just don't know how painful this was typing without swype. Please give me back my swype!!!
unfortunately I am on a discontinued ROM and will need to be updating the swype install myself. I'm having difficulty deleting the libSwypeCore.so file, and going into terminal and attempting to use chmod is giving me an error "bad mode." How do I delete this file?
How do I get the bata to install? It keeps giving me the not installed message.. I really need help I need swype..

go to the market, download titanium backup. use that to uninstall, unwanted bloat...you cannot use the native package installer/uninstaller to remove system apps.

Thanks all. I don't think it's going to matter since when I reboot into recovery I do not have the option to "flash zip from sd card". I got it rooted, installed rom manager and flashed clockwork but to no avail. This all seemed to go so smoothly when I did our eris phones.

you need to reinstall packages in recovery twice.
also you need the to fix 3e recovery before you can flash the cwm .zip.
look @ the stickies in the general section. there is a thread on working around 3e recovery. it contains a link to a batch script that'll fix it
there is also odin(tethered) that can replace the kernel with one that has cwm baked in

Anyone wondering about the OTA please read this!
If you have CWM installed, you won't be able to take the OTA.
For now, I'd suggest staying away from it until I get a chance to look it over first.
Also, if you're running my decrapified ROM, installing the OTA would bootloop your device since decrapified is deodexed and the OTA would be odexed.
In the next day or so (whenever I get access to the OTA zip file), I'll disassemble it and see what changes it contains (like if it has a new recovery, or new kernel, or changes the board configuration) I'll post back here to let y'all know.
UPDATE
It appears that the update is safe to install for those running the revo stock (not decrapified) ROM.
It makes changes to quite a lot-- new boot.img, new LTE RIL, new CDMA RIL, new LTE baseband ROM, changes to the recovery system to bring it in line with normal Android (still not very 'normal', but normal as in "now contains an installrecovery.sh that android can use"), and a bunch of new ODEX files.
Let me stress this and make it perfectly clear: this update will NOT work if you're running decrapified ROM.
In the next day or so, I'll make an updated decrapified ROM (see? I was waiting for a good reason to make an update ) that will include the OTA in it.
Until then, relax and keep hitting that "ignore" button

There are several things that I do not like about the Decrapified ROM
1. The 3 buttons on the bottom (Phone / App Drawer / Browser) sometimes vanish. Only way to fix it is to reboot
2. When you dock the phone into the car mount, the Navigation doesn't do anything. It would be nice to launch your own GPS app or the Google Navigation app. There are other activities that do nothing.
Everything is is great. Love the Google Integration and Love the missing Verizon Crapware on it (VZ Navigator, VZ Music, etc)

Mine rebooted to Clockwork, I selected reboot, it came back up, displayed a page noting the failure, and everything appears to be working fine -- 30 minutes and counting. We'll see if it tries again...

Yeah, I PM'd you on that.. revo tool kit not working, download file only 36k, even attempted to download the .tar (via Windows7) described in the output in the program and the countdown just keeps looping. There may be something wrong with the files or the file host...
disregard.. just attempted download in Dolphin Browser on my phone and it is downloading the 6.73mb file recovery-stock.tar from 199.167.134.110/private/iomonster/files/revo-cwm/recovery-stock.tar.gz
So i should be able to follow same instructions I used to manually install cwm to install this, correct? Or I could just wait for the new decrap ROM, but I am very impatient.. lol
I am giving up!!!!!
ok.. getting really mad now. I successfully and manually flashed the stock recovery image and verified that with revo toolkit. So applied the update and it boots into stock recovery but not even half way through the arrow becomes an " ! " and reboots and says update failed or incomplete. So now I will put back CWM and wait for the next version of decrap.

You can NOT apply the OTA if you're running decrap!

I know that.. I am using stock rooted. I only meant I would wait for it because you said you were going to include the update in next version..

I'm running Decrap1.1 and couldn't stop the attempted upgrade, since mine wouldn't respond to any attempts to defer. So, I went poking around under the hood. Just on a hunch, I used Titatium Backup to freeze a program called Verizon Package Installer, thinking that might interupt any attempt to actually update. The update loader ran and failed, gave me a warning, and I haven't seen it again since. I also am having ZERO problems with the phone. It's like it went away and isn't coming back.
Do you think my package loader freeze might do that?
