[q] i think my hero is screwed!! - Hero CDMA Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I rooted and flashed cm6 with gapps and everything was fine. The I tried the firerat memory trick and it locked me up on the white HTC screen. I reflashed cm6 and gapps. Cm6 now loads but I have no gapps and no lock screen. My home key doesn't work and I can only text or make calls. Cannot receive calls and I have no ringer when I receive texts. PLEASE TELL ME YOU KNOW WHAT I DID WRONG AND HOW TO FIX THIS.

totally the right place to post this, esp since you even started it with [q]

This comes to mind from firerat's thread:
If you dont understand what this Modification is doing, why it needs to be done, or what possible benefits come from it, then...
PLEASE DO NOT TRY THIS MOD.
-- big red text and all. must have skipped that like OP skipped reading what forum he/she was in.

did you really need to post this a 2nd time as if we didn't see it the first time seriously though?
only post things once now you have posted twice and neither have been in the right section

Merged your threads.
Please post in the correct forum once. Do not double post in development, and this should have been in Q&A.

Sorry about the wrong section. I admit to being a noob. And I seen the big red text. I know what that mod does that is why I wanted to do it

Now that you have all bashed me for the wrong place and accidentally posting twice can somebody tell what I can do to fix this.

use rom manager from inside CM6 to install clockwork recovery, then reinstall cm6 and the gapps, that should atleast get you back to a usable state

That did the trick! Thank you very much and I will try to be more careful with the posts. I would still like to free up the memory like what is done with firerat's mod. Can somebody give me a little help as to how to do this for my Sprint Hero.

What app do I use to make my phone act as a router and/or tether? I can't find Tether Wifi in the market... is there another app you recommend? I do not live in a 3g area... this would be only used at a beach house with no internet... I realize edge is slower but its better than nothing. Is this possible?

Any advice on pimping out the G1? I saw a video on youtube where the guys dialer was large rectangular buttons, maybe purple too... how do you get this? (better keyboard?) I've been looking at Teds Hero Theme, waiting on a version for Cyan 3.6.8.1. Do I need to delete open home after/before a theme, does not seem like it will be of any use after I do this hero theme from Ted, right?

What is the recovery.img file that is used in that manual, and do I need another one if I am using Cyanogens (v3.6.8.1) stable rom?
-2-
I saw at one point a thread that had the names of common items and what they meant but can't find it (ie, why I dont know why what a img file is or does). Can anyone shed some light on this, or know where that thread is?
-3-
The manual also made it seem like I needed to load a JF build. After my root I went straight to cyanogen. Does this matter? Did I lose something by not doing JF first? Is there a backup anywhere (other than the files I moved from my SD card to my computer before formatting it)?
-4-
Do I need to load any other cyanogen things on my phone? On his thread it lists things like Audio resources, pimped out recovery image, etc.
-5-
Finally, I need to partition my card to take advantage of apps2sd on his rom.... what is the best way to do this? I really need help on this one.

What are all the cool apps that come with this rom.... anywhere I can go to learn more about how to use them?

Its fine that you went straight to cyanogens rom. Its good to load cyanogens new recovery (1.4), its in the pimped out recovery and all instructions are in there. There are different ways to partition a sd card, the way I do mine is thru Ubuntu (tuturial is in my sig). Wifi tether for root users is what allows your phone to act as a router. Theres alot of cool apps, you just got to play with them to figure them out or narrow down what your trying to find out. And theres a search feature, use that or be flamed if you ask repeated questions.

Get cyan pimped out recovery. The instructions are fool proof how to dow it.
-2-

Look in the informative thread sticky in the dev subforum

No, it's cool that you went straight to cyan. See when that guide was written those were the most popular roms that's why they are there.
-4-
Do I need to load any other cyanogen things on my phone? On his thread it lists things like Audio resources, pimped out recovery image, etc.
I would load the Audio resources since those are your ringtones and notification tones. Though if you plan on making your own it isn't really necessary. As for the recovery image you should definitely download. The instructions are easy and simple so just read.
-5-

Not to be mean but... Seriously??? It's a sticky in this subforum....

Always search first, and if you can't find it search again. Don't just search 1 subforum. Believe me the answers are out there.
Yeah, I promise I do search, but again I just kinda seem to go from one thing to another and then I realize there are several ways to do the same thing.
Regarding the partition, no offense taken... but I'm not comfortable enough with the process so thought I would try and get more guidance than what I can find in the several threads with different methods.

I see where you are coming from since I too am a noob. So I'm guessing you're rooted and have a custom rom installed already. Soo here is the guide I used to partition my SD card. It is a very, self-explanatory guide. I have no computer programming background and this guide made it seem easy to me. You're going to need cyan's pimped out recovery. Like I said just find that thread and it has the directions to install it. As for apps, I found what I thought was cool browsing the app forum here and on androidcommunity.com

Exactly that... its a backup of basically your entire phone from the point that you created the backup, if you happen to flash another ROM and you don't like it, or it breaks, you can hit the restore option and return to this moment in time for you phone.
Holy crap that was a ton of questions... but ye as the other guys said just search the forum, all of the questions you asked have been answered.

bare with me ONE MORE Q RE: NANDROID
I have created a nandroid backup, copied the folder from my SD card to my computer for emergencies.
If I add a new ROM and wipe.... how would I restore my phone? The backup I created would be erased from the phone right? And the backup on my computer would be from another rom, does that matter (assuming no, but I dont know the first thing about how to restore my phone from doing a wipe).
Thank you all... incredible forum.

when you wipe everything on your sd remains only data from the phones internal is wiped, so as long as you didnt delete it from sd after backing up to computer your good. Also worse come to worse you can use a card reader to get it on there..
As far as your settings and stuff reseting, thats why some people get to lazy to wipe you can try my backuppro (i use this) or backup for root (dont know to much about) to back up your settings, bookmarks, sms, and contacts if youd like. Note though that your contacts and all that will come back after signing back into google, and your apps will also remain on the sd..
^ ahh... completely forgot that the SD card was left intact after a wipe. That makes perfect sense and thank you thank you. I have backup for root now but will go to the market and try your app. THank you!

I live for these moments on this forum!

Lets do this! Gloves are off and I am going to 2.2.... help! Rogers

So, the only thing holding me back was voiding the warranty and the fact I have a rogers phone (build EPE54B).... so I think I have to flash the build to the one that matches the update?
Sooooo if anyone wants to point me in the safest, easiest direction... I would appreciate it... and dos and don't would be appreciated as well. I am new to the phone an android, so feel free to dumb it down.
Does the build actually mean anything? What happens once I change it... and official updates come out? I am going to cut the grass... and then root, so help me out (preferably someone that is on rogers and has done this)
thx in advance! Froyo or Brick, here I come!
had a long day with chores and family day.... but I am back at it, first tutorial down and it seems solid...
Uploaded with ImageShack.us
onward!
Let me know how you make out. I'm on Rogers as well and am debating rooting.
Just looking at the stickies in General section would save you from opening yet another thread on the subject

Follow the guide for rooted N1s from here:

Let me know how it goes for you.
I am on Rogers and experienced EXTREME instability the moment I flashed the Froyo radio. My phone would crash randomly and frequently.
I suspect it was a problem with my hardware and have returned the phone and am waiting for a new one.

thx jack, I appreciate it.... sorry for the thread... but in my experience... it is easier having your hand held by someone experienced.... then assuming I am following the right one, lol.... so I follow that entire thread to go from rogers to whatever build I need? heh
I will try this in approx 2 hours.... when the yard work is done!
early quick question, when I go to "CyanogenMod"
it takes me to a thread, but I do not see the download, what am I not seeing? heh
I am at this part
Type: fastboot flash recovery recovery-RA-nexus-v1.7.0.img
it says cannot load image recovery? thx
well everything was working great up until this point, tried it 100 times, heh... so now I sit and wait for guidance? thx
Mr.Kakarot, have you put the .img in the same folder as fastboot? Or, alternatively, if fastboot is in your PATH, you won't have this problem.
i renamed the image to recovery.img and that seemed to work? I will continue after supper!

followed that first thread to a T and it worked out... had 2 minor stalls but I got through it... I am doing this stuff off and on, thx for that thread... this is going to be a STUPID question I am sure... but following that first thread, what have I done? unlocked, rooted and installed google add ons? phone looks awesome, I will do the rest after supper!
hmmm, got it, lol
done, running 2.2.... so tomorrow at work, i guess I will see if I have any issues....
now that this is done, can I re install that sense ui? What should I do or try now that I have done those 2 tutorials? thx
first off there are no 2.2 froyo/sense roms available as of yet.. so if you want to use a desire rom youre more than likely going to want to downgrade to the latest 2.1 radio that works well with your carrier/area, as froyo has its own radio and needs it to run properly.. once you downgrade.. nandroid>wipe>flash
yea, I did not know it would put me back to 2.1, lol.... went back and then back again to 2.2, lol... sense sure looked good!
Any ideas, suggestions, tips for 2.2? I installed flash! thx
How stable is your phone with the Froyo radio? Any unexplained reboots yet?
well it was quite late by the time I did it, I was playing with it, went to a few flash websites.... and no reboots or shutdowns, I also just woke up.... so I will know today after a full day work/playing, thx
one of the bugs is my camera does not work for video... so I have to update the radio, any suggestions! thx
Nope thats pretty much what you need to do is update the radio
thanks, but I am not gonna lie... still not sure which are radios, roms, senses, lol.... could you point me to the one I need.... or does it matter? thx, I just do not want to brick, obviously!
Also, I did not do this step.... is this what I need to do, or is it unrelated?
11) You should still have root, but if you want BusyBox (or lost root somehow), Cyanogen has done it again! Go back into Recovery and flash froyo-rooter-signed.zip. Then Titanium Backup will work once again.
does not sound like something I need or use, so I did not do it....
as far as stability... my 3g signal looked low all day... but I never had a dropped call, instability or any reboots/crashes.... all is well! thx
go here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=6734240&postcount=9532
havent had problems with the older one, but am going to try the new one just to see.
anyone around?
I tried these 3 things
Step_One_Froyo_Radio_Update.zip
step-two-RoDrIgUeZsTyLe-FroYo-MCR-R16-MOD-V1.8-FIX.zip
and then i ran
2.6.34_AVS-925mV_CFS_1113Mhz_061210.zip
anytime I run setcpu, I get this error
the application process com.mhuang.overclocking has stopped unexpectedly, please try again?
"uninstalled and reinstalled, worked. thx"

[Q] Voicemail notifcation won't go away

Don't know if I posted this in the correct spot... either way
I keep getting a Sprint Voicemail notification stating
"New Voicemail (1) dial ###-###-####"
Even though I do not have a voicemail
It is not coming from Google Voice nor Sprint VVM, seems to be coming from elsewhere and I can't get rid of it. It's a pain in the rear. Anyway to get rid of it???

What rom are you using, Darchdroid 2.8?

Is it perhaps a text message? I PMed you back, try the things I suggested and see if that helps any. If any of them work, please post it in the thread, incase others are having the same issue.
Wrong spot to post this. Should be in Q&A

I'll try what you sent in the pm here soon
I tried flashing the nightly version and its still there. right from the boot.
I can try flashing the old phone.apk file from the other one but I don't know, like you said, if that's compatible...
I think its a problem with the phone.apk, the bug is present in darchdroid 2.8.
There are 2 things you can try. One is to nandroid backup, flash a senseUI rom, clear the notification, then nandroid back.
You can try pushing the phone.apk from darchdroid 2.7, it fixes the bug, but I don't know for sure if its compatible with CM6
You can try flashing the newest nightly CM, RC0 is a very old release.
its much more up to date, and perhaps has the fix in place already.
be sure to flash the correct Google ****s,

and the battery tweak/charging LED fix..

First time I didn't wipe... I wiped just now its loading up... I'll let y'all know what ends up happening.....
I posted a screen shot in the first post.
Wiping did nothing...
Ended up showing up again...
gotta be an easy work around hahaha... ugh
I'm talking to myself but its for anyone else having the same problem
I did a complete wipe installed the latest Nightly...
I had the voicemail notification occur once and now its not coming back *fingers crossed* and besides that all the apps in the app store are back....
Also have Sprint VVM working again... sorry I'm not a big google voice fan
2.2 roms have that issue cause theyre ported from a different system.thats why they say 3g .not evdo, once they get the source itll be fixed.....im not a pro,but im almost sure what i said is right.not in those exact words, but somethin like that lol.some1 back me up on this haha
Ok nothing has worked. I've gotten at least 5 notifications since I woke up...
Any other ideas I'm willing to try.... and about flashing the other phone.apk I don't know where to get that or if it will even work
I'm up for any other suggestions please!

yea, i'm not gunna blame you for not searching because it took me a whlie to dig up this post, but to permanently get rid of the voicemail icon, do this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=6619816&postcount=1007
but if you don't want to go through that whole process, you can see on the drop down menu in your screenshot theres an option to clear that voicemail. maybe you should try tapping that.
haha thanks darch.... I know I can press clear I do it.. then it just comes right back about 15 minutes later or until I receive another text message. I wish it was that simple.. wouldn't that be amazing?

I had the same problem. It's from the modded mms.apk on the ROM. Adb remove mms and push a stock mms.apk from an older ROM (one you know that works ok). Voila! No more annoying Android messages.
had no problem removing mms.apk but pushing it.... was difficult it never actually pushed for some odd reason.... so I ended up with a phone that cannot receive any sort of text messages.... haha I just had to do a nan restore but still... I've tried it 3 times now.. and failed 3 times...

Hey,
Just saw your message. You have to put the new Mms.apk in your AndroidSDK/tools folder and then run your command prompts. You don't run adb shell command. Here are the commands in bold:
C:\Windows\System32>cd /AndroidSDK/tools (hit enter)
C:\AndroidSDK/tools>adb remount (hit enter)
remount succeeded
C:\AndroidSDK/tools>adb push Mms.apk /system/app/
Wait for the prompt to return a message of "X" amount of KB sent in "X" amount of seconds and then exit.
You can copy and paste these commands instead of typing. Remember everything is case sensitive.
Everything is fixable!
Did what you said....
using a mac...
./adb push Mms.apk system/app/
returned...
1402 KB/s (1074799 bytes in 0.748s)
shows up in my OI file Manager that is in fact in the system/app folder but will not actually show up in my applications if that makes sense...
once again unable to receive texts
Nandroid restore*
hmmm
why is it pushing it to my device but not actually loading up anywhere?

[Q] nexus one cyan mod problem - big one for me

hey guys, new to rooting my device. always been heavy into customization and seen alot of work on here for cyanogen mod. so - went ahead and did the one click root. worked fine, checked with superuser permissions, and rom manager. downloaded cm 6.0.0 stable. "flashed" that rom onto my device, and it asked me to reboot to take effect. so hit reboot. and it is now stuck on the startup boot logo for cm6 with the blue android with the circle around the edge (im sure you all know what im on about) having a look about cant seem to see anybody else with this problem.
heres hoping somebody will help me out, hopefully make me look like a prat and tell me its something really simple and easy to do. beacuse im not liking my phone right now at all :/
Boot into recovery, wipe the device, then reflash the rom.
okay, after having a play i've got it to boot into cm6.0.0 with google addon, however it now says there is no internet connection. anybody?

Stick to stock rom, CM6 kills your battery within a day, half a day if you are a heavy user. I am a lot into customization too but after moving to cm6 I moved back to stock within a week. I think your phone is hinting to you not to install cm6
i didnt know cm6 did that to be fair brother. however, that doesnt solve my problem at the moment. if i find i cant live with it, then ill reset back to stock or a different rom, but at the moment my main priority is to get access to my internet again for the time being whilst i look into different roms
Mine did the same thing. I just waited and within 5 to 10 minutes my phone started and I was able to use it.

[Q] Problems Making and Answering Calls

I've searched for half and hour and looked through XDA's suggested topics before, so I apologize if this is a beaten dead horse.
I've had a problem for a while, I believe when my phone (CDMA HTC Hero) was stock, then through Fresh, CM6 and now CM7 2.3.3. at least 50% of the time I try to answer an incoming call it immediately "boops" at me and hangs up. Additionally, at least 50% of the time I have to send/dial a number more than once for it to connect. It will ring, click off a few seconds and "boop", hang up. Often the person on the other end will tell me their's rang once but when they picked up I wasn't there.
Now adding to this oddness, unless I go through a tunnel I almost never drop a call once it's active. Adding more wierdness, I found out my sister who also has a CDMA HTC Hero (rooted so I could add wireless tether but otherwise still on Sprint's 2.1 stock) experiences the same sort of conditions.
Is there something I can solve here or is it just an anomaly I continue to live with for another couple months till I upgrade? Thanks to this forum and the developers I've managed to remain happy w/ my phone for 2 years because I get to make it "new to me" every couple months (more and more often, it's addictive) but I feel it's showing it's age and I'm ready to upgrade.
Thanks, Travis
have you updated your PRL and such recently?? sometimes that causes phone answering wonkiness..
I often say I know just enough to be dangerous
.....a search tells me the PRL is my phone's list of local towers?...... I haven't intentionally done this ever. Do I need to somehow flash back to a stock ROM (avail. in here?) and then restore my current after I "update PRL" or has 2.3.3 added this feature and I'm just missing it.
Thank you for the help, sorry for current ignorance

yeah.. there are plenty of stock based roms floating around here.. nifinite has some of the best..nandroid your current setup, flash a stock, then go to settings update PRL/Profile, after everything updates, just use your nandroid to get back to your current setup..
easy as pi
Nandroid equivalent to my CWM backup I assume?
I'll search to find stock based (those the sense ones?) or point me to one if you don't mind.
I'll happily do this 3.142 times if it corrects this minor irritation

no problem
New Question:
backed up current rom, applied one above and I'm stuck in a boot loop? How do I get back to the recover boot screen where I can restore the backup and try another rom?

lol.. sorry..
pull the battery.. hold down power and home, will boot you to recovery.. wipe everything then flash the ROM again and reboot, that should fix..
Whew, minor panic averted. See how I learn new stuff, only by screwing it up
I wondered if I need to wipe cache and davlik before, will have a go at it again.
