Stay on topic.

Hi eugene
I'm interested in doing some modification. Just like to know what tools are you using to compile and test these code? How is your set up?

ubuntu Linux 64-bit
Tools used are what Samsung suggested per kernel setup.

Kernel Source for Vibrant?
Hi Eugene,
Can you help me to understand what this kernel build is? Did you take the I9000 source and modify it to work on the Vibrant?
Does it fix the battery drain problem?
Put another way, could this source be compiled and be expected to run on the Vibrant? (Sorry about the noobiness; I am a EE but not a programmer.)
Thanks,
Bruce

I believe this would be simply the source code for the compiled 2.2 kernel we use that he has gotten to work. It was requested by a bunch of people but I read on the cm6.1 irc logs that they requested his source to help speed up the process. I'm sure it can be compiled, but without any modifications you will simply get what is already available in compiled form.

[Kernel] ikxdf's kernels (original HTC 2.6.29 stable and 2.6.35.4 for tests)

Hi guys,
I stopped a while to build rom for tatoo but I continued to follow the thread.
For fun I have compiled the latest stable kernel ... if anyone cares to test it I'll put the link here.
I take this opportunity to insert a link to my kernel sources generated using HTC.
I think it's correct to use this kernel for the development of libraries on the camera and radio, as it turns out to be the only kernel you know works.
Compiling the latest kernel I have seen many great features ... but totally missing some drivers, such as those in radio ...
I do not understand this anxiety developers to have a custom kernel and the most updated ... But I think it is appropriate to start building a secure kernel. When the camera and the radio works then you can create as many kernels you want ... but not before.
This is my thought ... meanwhile I'll use this post to whoever wants to download the kernel and HTC for those who want to test my kernel 2.6.35.4.
Kernel_2.6.29_HTC
contain for shure all drivers for FMRadio, camera,bt ecc and all htc patches (if presents). this kernel il generated from HTC kernel source downloaded from htc site.
Features added: ext3 and ext4 partitions support
Kernel_2.6.35.4_v1NOT WORKING
Is a testing kernel. it is generated compiling the last stable source released on kernel.org
Kernel_2.6.35.4_v2
- FMRadio diriver inculded
- voltage and current regulator support
- Led drivers
- ext3 ext4
nice job, my friend.

Although I´m no dev, this is actually very sensible. I´d rather had a slightly outdated but FULLY functional kernel, than the most up-to-date but crippled one...

I've been away from the Tattoo scene since we got root on this little device.
I'm currently interested in getting psfreedom to run on Tattoo but it seems that the stock HTC kernel is crippled (missing usb stuff). If your kernel is at least bootable, this would be a nice place to start

if u are talking about 2.6.35.4 version you have to try if it can boot because i haven't a tattoo for test it.
I have sell my tattoo after 2 week but all great users of this thread have always made a great testing job for me and for my rom.
If anyone want test if this kernel is booting or not i will contine to develope it.
If it doesn't boot and adb will start i need a logcat.
if u are talking of the original htc kernel 2.6.29 version it is already working on my rom (Pancake) .
i will release sonn the wlan.ko module for 2.1 and for 2.2 roms for the 2 versions of kernel.
Hi, ikxdf!
I'm willing to try your kernel. I am quite an experienced linux user of desktop and server but I'm quite new regarding ROM flashing. But still, from what I gather I have to flash your kernel archive in the boot sector, right?
I have AmonRA's recovery installed and tested. And I'm eager to try cooked stuff as I've just gotten my Tattoo out of service today after 3 weeks!!! I was so dissapointed in having my old Nokia again.

About the kernel

i am interesting to join the development for i9000. however, i have no idea how to start. can anyone tell me where i can get the source code and what kind of compiler i can use to compile??? Thx

I do need testers on this device. Hit me up on IRC (irc.freenode.net) in #tiamat. If you're not familiar with IRC, use http://tiamat-dev.com/web-chat/ to log in to the channel.
Hey, the desire s needs an AOSP kernel. It runs on the same processor as this phone (MSM 8255), so maybe you can make one........
If someone can tell me how to reflash the CM7 kernel (in case wifi bug still exists), I'd be happy to test this out also.
Would I just reflash the CM7 nightly I want to run, as (afaik) the kernel is packaged with it?
Yep ... reflash the nightly and you will hav the cm kernel again
Sent from my Incredible S using XDA App
Ok, well 1.0.3 has fixed the wifi issue. This puts you 1 step ahead of CM right now, as in the latest nightly the kernel was updated and wifi was broken in the process .
It's 245am here, so I will try and write more tomorrow. Just wanted to report that wifi is working .

CM hasn't merged support for the saga (Desire S) in to their kernel yet, but the HTC source is out. I would love to add the device in with this series of kernels (and the lexicon -merge- when that source is out), but that isn't a project I can commit to without some testers or having the device.
If you're willing to test, let me know and I can work on it.

Hi Cayniarb
Count me in for Desire S kernel testing.
I would certainly be happy to test a Desire S kernel too. Using a stripped down Sense ROM right now because of the battery drain on the unofficial CM7 mod, but would love to switch to CM7 full time.
Have plenty of Linux experience and know my way around Android, ADB, fastboot / etc.
Cheers =)
Since this is quickly turning in to a Desire S thread...........
I have a built kernel for the device - but as I don't have it, I have no clue if it works. I'd rather not post a link for a test build like this publicly.
I have the code isolated in a branch away from the mainline (cm-like, really cm+ tbolt) branch for testing, but I see nothing that should make merging it in very difficult. Check it here: http://code.tiamat-dev.com/7x30/htc-kernel-msm7x30/commits/android-msm-2.6.35-saga
The best way to contact for testing is via IRC. If you're not familiar with it, I have a webportal for it setup on my site to make it easy: http://tiamat-dev.com/web-chat/
wonderful .

Yes, I'll second this. Am running MIUI with Tiamat 1.0.4 and Vipermod to undervolt, setcpu down to 650/192mhz and running on conservative governor. Experiencing great battery life, full stability, and the rom still runs smooth. Amazing job!

[DEV] Developer Alliance

All,
I decided to create an open thread for DEV's from both XDA and Android Forums and where ever else, so we can all communicate back and forth on CM products for our phones. Since I know we have many sister phones which all basically have the same hardware I think it's time we all come together to help one another. Here is the known list of our sister phones.
- Motorola TRIUMPH
- Huawei U9000 IDEOS X6
- Viewsonic Viewpad 4
- Cherry Mobile Magnum HD A400
- Spice CSL Mi 410 - Slim
- WellcoM A99
- CSL Blueberry Mi 410
- Olive Smart VS300
- Axioo Vigo 410
- Huawei Ascend X
To start off the thread I will be answering a question from

X6 DEV's,
I see that rcset forked over our device files from MTDEV-CM10 right now rukin is using his own branch called rukin check in there for current updates, our main branch jellybean is still going through some growing pains. Also not sure if you guys have seen but QUALCOMM released updated egl drivers for Jelly Bean. For what it's worth I replaced all our Video drivers from QUALCOMM for CM9 with their ICS update for arm7 and it made a huge difference in performance. Our original egl drivers from CM9 came from edowar's github so it maybe worth to update all your CM9 ROM's and test that out. Just wanted to pass this on to all you devs. Since our phones are so similar I think it's worth the continued communication between devs

My pleasure
Yes our proximity sensor/light sensor seems to be working fine in CM9 for the Triumph, I have not tested this in CM10 yet. I notice it works as long as you turn it on by going to Settings < Display < Brightness and check mark "Automatic Brightness". Also while on a phone call when you pull the phone from your face the screen also turns on.
Based on edowar's github I see he is coping over the sensor file
https://github.com/edowar/android_device_fb0/blob/ICS/device_fb0.mk#L246
The other thing to look at is TickerGuy's original commit to android_frameworks_base for CM7
https://github.com/tickerguy/android_frameworks_base/commit/8e748c9a692eb82a9374af398ecea63c7b1944df
It looks like it was included in CM9 by matera
https://github.com/MTDEV-CM9R2/andr.../android/server/PowerManagerService.java#L315
Also the other thing you may need to do is hack on the kernel as well, here is Tickerguy's original commits for light sensor and changing the LUX values to handle the difference in direct sunlight outdoors and also the lower light of being inside.
https://github.com/tickerguy/WX_435_Kernel-Tickerguy/commit/cc6431239094150c6d4d854afcb47ff5a4c19d7c
These changes have also been included in our 2.6.32.59 kernel which Mantera patched for CM9/CM10
https://github.com/MTDEV-CM9/MTDEV-KERNEL-CM9/blob/ics/drivers/i2c/chips/ltr502als.c
As for the proximity sensor not working while on a phone call I patched this in our CM7 Kernel 2.6.32.9 from mantera
[urlhttps://github.com/MTDEV-KERNEL/MTDEV-KERNEL-CM7/commit/96f11d9478c8043095a8b77e20414d91dd2742ce[/url]
This is also patched in our current ICS kernel as well 2.6.32.59
https://github.com/MTDEV-KERNEL/MTDEV-KERNEL-CM9/blob/ics/drivers/input/evdev.c
If you have any other questions please feel free to use the thread

Good day FIH-FB0 devs Sir g60 and Sir aben.
It seems like this is the first time the head devs of the GSM and CDMA units of FB0 come in contact.
Maybe you two should communicate often, but so as not to infringe your right of choice you are free to do otherwise. Just an unsolicited suggestion anyway.
I just would like to ask what is hacking a kernel, or parts of it, in the context of sir g60's post above?
I would like to compile kernels too.
Thanks.

um, one more thing.
i think, in the spirit of a formidable alliance between GSM and CDMA devs, we should first be unanimous on what kernel version to put forward.
There are only two choices at the moment:
a. 2.6.32
b. 2.6.35
As the two of you are head devs, i would like to suggest that you two make a decision on this matter, but again feel free to do otherwise.
Thanks.

If you would like to get involved in modifying your kernel we have some instructions on setting up your build environment using Linux 10.04 at http://mtdev.us in the wiki area. Also you can download the build kernel script we have created at https://github.com/MTDEV-KERNEL/MTDEV-BUILD-KERNEL and then you can download your kernel by tjsyte at https://github.com/tjstyle/android_kernel_fih_msm7x30. Make sure to read the instructions in the README as you will need the config in the kernel directory.

HEX-RAYS
Dev's I wanted to share a tool that has been helping us a bunch lately that I found here on xda
http://www.hex-rays.com/products/ida/support/download_demo.shtml
This tool allows you load lib files and finds which files should be associated with it. Recently in making changes to our CM7 ROM we have increased our egl from 11fps to 19fps by using the Sharp Gingerbread libs. Prior to this tool we where never able to use these libs as we didn't know which libs where dependent on others. Anyways I wanted to pass this along. Also while this it's listed as a demo version the demo portion only works on ARM technology so for us developers of Android this is basically a full version for us! It's nice to know that sometimes open source gets a break
CM9 Major Improvements!
Dev's,
I have added in the Code Aurora Qualcomm libs which I found from TwistedUmbrella and also Lloir's git hubs. Here is the commit I added
https://github.com/MTDEV-CM9/vendor/commit/0970ca0a148088ffcb945549689d7cc317ebedbe
Disregard the first four files of the commit as they are Triumph specific files.
cm/prebuilt/common/bootanimation/vertical-480x800.zip - CM10 Boot animation
motorola/triumph/proprietary/hostapd - Triumph specific file
motorola/triumph/proprietary/hostapd_cli - Triumph specific file
motorola/triumph/proprietary/sensors.triumph.so - Triumph specific file
The remaining code, and lib's should do wonders for your CM9 ROM and really give it a face lift in terms of speed and overall performance!!!

Question
Hi to all
I have downloaded the 20121013 CM9 rom for motorola triumph.
Can I just replace the lib files of any of our cm9 roms from MT rom to improve performance.
If it is possible, which are the main lib files which I should replace?
Please help
If you look at the GitHub link I posted all the files are in the system folder. You can download the zip from GitHub and pull out all the files you need. If look at this file it will tell you which files you need and what folder they go into.
https://github.com/MTDEV-CM9/vendor/commit/0970ca0a148088ffcb945549689d7cc317ebedbe#L43R185
The way to read the XML is after the : it will tell you the folder
:/system/etc/firmware/a225_pfp.fw
So that says a22_pfp. fw goes in system/etc/firmware.
If you have further questions please feel free to post

[Q] building novafusion.pl cm11/kernel

Hi,
I would like to build kernel based on novafusion github sources. I want to look at some btle and NFC stuff, so i wondered if anyone is building from there? And if so how do i get all sources cloned? I figured most things i would look at is kernel, so building that would be a perfect start. But eventually i would like to do complete builds.. So a full guide to getting the correct sources would be great
I am a newbie to building Android, have done it for my defy+ though.

Yeah, I am trying to get source from novafusion's github, but I have trouble figuring out how the Novafusion repo's are tied together and once kernel builds I will need to figure out the same for CM11 I think. I would have expected to get a manifest from one of their repo's but that does not seem to exist? (As noted I am a newbie to android and the repo tool, but I am no stranger to coding)
So I wondered if anyone have cloned and built the sources.. If so I would be gratefull for a guide to how I get a local build up and running.
P.s. I have not yet had time to try and put together a manifest myself - Or ask one of the novafusion guys to share theirs, but I thought there might be a general interest in this.. And I figured that there must be someone having it up and running.
