I would tell you.. But it was just released and I have had 2 minutes with it..
I can tell you this, I included it in my latest ROM & did a flash w/ wipe.. GPS is MUCH better.
I got a lock in 3 seconds

Are the baseband strings writing correctly in this update?
Also, thanks for the fast work Master, I was 'bout to make this myself..

how do we flash this?
do we need ODIN?
what's this JL1 a ROM and update?
do i need it?
it said E:\....... cannot something something.

How do you figure? modem.bin from JK6 date modified is 11/29 JL1 date modified is 12/1.
There may be only a small or nearly non-existant change between the two, but I sure don't know how you can claim they're the same.

So you're saying if I take an apple and change it's name, it won't be an apple anymore? Is that what you're saying? Yes it's newer. Yes it's name is different. It's the same build.

The data on JK2 wasn't that great [for me]. It kept cutting in and out. The JK6 modem made data much more consistent but with minor hiccups when loading web pages. After flashing the JL1 modem data seems 100%. I have yet to experience a single hiccup. It just works. This is my experience, just thought I'd share.

Thanks for this! Same build or not, my gps is locking almost instantly... couldn't tell you how or why, but it is certain.

What I'm saying is there's evidence to imply there are changes and you've provided none to prove there are none.

I've never flashed just a Modem. What exactly will it change and do you think id have a problem flashing while running JK6? Thanks.

I will hold off on flashing til more people chime in with advantages/disadvantages of this over JK6

Jesus, man, it's no wonder I don't come around here anymore. Know, what? Screw it, you're right. It's completely different. Just do yourself a favor and don't look at it at all... That way you can stay right. K?

people are rude on this forum. thanks for the update @master.

Save the zip file to your phone and flash it thru clockwork. It replaces your modem. It takes about 45 seconds.

I know it's difficult, but let's just tell him.
A nandroid backup creates an 'image' that backs up most every piece of data that makes your phone go (os, apps, ...i said everything, right?). Some *extremely* core components of the OS are not included in the nandroid image.
Titanium backs up individual applications (white), application settings (green), and red stuff you probably shouldn't touch...because you know...it's red...and you might not be smart enough for something red.
A nandroid probably needs to match the kernal version (maybe more...limit of my knowledge) you've flashed most recently.

[I896] Firefly or Phoenix 2.2.1 version 4.5

Hello All,
I have the Rogers Captivate i-896 and recently moved over from a Bell I-9000 GTM. Reason why I moved from I9000 is due to the scare that most of the Bell Versions weren't flash friendly.
Due to my bad experience in the past, I just want to double check before I flash any roms. My two big interests lately have been either the Firefly ROM or Pheonix 2.2.1 version 4.5. Just wondering, anyone on XDA with a Rogers I896 that is currently running any of these ROMs with no issues at all?
Sorry if this is a repeat. I'm just not about to read 800 pages through the thread. Thanks a lot and your feedback will help a lot!
I too would love to know the answer to this.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I896 using Tapatalk
Firefly all the way!
The only flaw I have found in it is the SMS timestamps, that can be fixed by installing SMS time fix from the market.
Its infinately customizable. (there is a huge thread based on it and pheonix here, alot of the Pheonix stuff will work on it as well)
It also does not apply the AT&T boot screen on startup, so if you do have any warranty issues getting back to stock is all that much easier.
I'm currently running it and its great!
Its also based on our stock rom.........Whats better than that

Dammit. Now I feel like a noob, with the question I am about to ask...........
Sooooo, the old way I flashed the rom is not working for me. I am installing Clockwork Mod Recovery via Rom Manager, and then I keep clicking "Reboot into Recovery Mode".. I've done this process over and over atleast 5 times, and its not booting into CWM Recovery. What do I do?
I am trying the OneClick ODIN, but it doesn't give me an Option of which ROM file to flash..
HELP?!
Have you got firefly installed?
What do you mean? I downloaded the ROM and put it on my SD Card.. But, its just a matter of getting into Clockwork Mod Recovery so I can flash it.. I know what to do in Clockwork, just don't know why its not booting into Clockwork Mod.. :??
power down the phone.
boot into recovery manually vol-/vol+ and power
when you get into recovery choose reinstall packages.

So I'm not entirely sure how the naming theme works, but it appears this radio is a lower version number than the newest evo radio for the Inc.
Newest radio we have is 2.15.00.11.19 and this one here is 2.15.00.04.08?
Please enlighten me, someone.

None so far. I used the Bootloader version to install. Worked fine.
I have been 88-92 dBm in my computer room with every radio I have tried. The Evo 11.19 was around -90 and was the most stable for me and best call quality.
I am sitting at -85 dBm with this radio. Not a huge difference, but I am optimistic.
Of course I will have to play with it for a few days to be sure the dbm difference equates to call quality and download speeds.
Thanks for the link.
Just flashed the bootloader version. Fine. Ill see how it is over the next few days
Hmmm, curious. I want to flash but skeptical at this point.
Here we go again with the pointless radio flashing.

Been a while since I flashed a radio and I know it's not good to screw those up.
This gets done in CW or just on the basic bootloader when it asks you to press volume up or down (yes or no) to install?
I didn't see any significant changes in my area. Went from -89 to -90, lol
Edit: I thinks worse now -93

Bootloader. Make sure it's named "p31img.zip" and not "p31img.zip.zip" Drop it into the root directory of your SD card. Bootloader will do the rest. When you're successfully booted after the flash, remove the zip file from your root directory.
Wait for the thing to fully reboot. Resist the urge to pull the battery, lest you find yourself with a brick.
Flashing the radio is just about the only way you can permanently screw up your Android. You might want to wait to find out what improvements are part of the new radio before you risk flashing it.
Im not seeing any difference in signal strength.

Keep in mind, however, that the leaked OTA has TVOut in it now (two files, the apk and a library, actually) which has been noticeably lacking from the prior Incredible Gingerbread leak. It is possible (dunno 'cause I haven't flashed these yet, only just seeing this thread) that this radio is required for TV out to work under Gingerbread. (One recognized developer suggested that was possible).
Edit: Nevermind. Flashed the radio; added the two files I thought I needed for TV Out, still can't get it. Must be missing something else and will just have to wait.....
