Hi. I Recently updated from JG4 to JP5 (stock Australian Optus) and rooted using z4root. I have also applied the voodoo lagfix for Froyo.
I am trying to get 2e recovery or CWM Recovery (2e necessary first?). I am looking at flashing CF-Root as described here but am wondering if this will cause problems with z4root/voodoo. I am also unsure what version to use as they list JPH, JPK, JPM and JP6 but no JP5.
Can anyone help me out with what steps I need to take to get 2e back?
did you ever do this or get working.. or figure which z4mod version to use?

Yes, I just used the JP6 version of CF-Root, which worked.
Hi,
First sorry for my bad english (FRANCE)
For Vinay92, so, did you really manage install CF root JP6 on a base of I9000XXJP5 to obtain recovery 2e?
In that case have you desintall Z4mod and Z4root to manage it.
In my case i have recovery3e on a JP5 with Z4mod and Z4 root and i didn't manage to backup my ROM JP5 with ROM MANAGER because of the recovery 3e (.zip not signed)
Thanks a lot for a response

Hi Guys,
I did the reg trick and had the Kies download froyo JP6. (swedish)
Just out of curiosity, connected to Kies today -
Kies upgraded to 1.5.3.10103_100
and is offering a firmware upgrade too:
Current version: PDA:JP6 / Phone: JPM /CSC:JP4
Latest version: PDA:JPA/ Phone: JPP /CSC: JP4
Is this a newer Froyo ?
Would you recommend disable lagfix and reset to factory defaults?
Thanks
Yes JPA is newer than JP6. Always uninstall lag fix prior to flashing ROM. It is recommended to perform factory reset and delete cache but not absolutely necessary.
Thanks - just installed it. But kinda regretting it now.
I tried to use One-Click to root it - and getting a weird
E:signature verification failed
Is there any issue with rooting JPA?
Need recovery 2e
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
yup its newer! and as stated, u need recovery 2e

No issues with the Dutch JPA firmware. Flashed it thru Kies, then CF root and voodoo on it and running smoothly now.
Hi Lads.
I've also updated to [PDA:JPA/ Phone: JPP /CSC: JP4] and now can't figure out, which file to use from this post to Root it...
Can somebody please suggest?
Thanks in advance.
[Update]
This one worked fine for me: CF-Root-JPJPA-v1.2-Busybox-1.17.1.zip
Hi everyone,
I have upgraded my Samsung Galaxy S GT-I9000 from Eclair 2.1 to Froyo 2.2 via Samsung Kies. I have used Ryan's Z4root to root it which was success. Everything was fine until here. When I tried to fix the lag using the update.zip, it failed saying 'file verification failed' (somthing of this sort). I chekced on different forums and found that there isn't any update.zip file to fix lag on 2.2 (am I right?).
If there is one, could someone point me in that direction. If there isn't, how can I undo 2.2 and rollback to 2.1 so that I can root it and fix the lag.
Please ask if you need any further details regarding my phone or the process I used to root and fix the lag.
Thanks in advance.
Superoneclick worked for me on 2.2 and 2.2.1 if you just need to root the phone.

Thanks for your reply but I have already rooted my 2.2. What I am looking is for a lag fix solution on my 2.2 or rolling back to 2.1 where there are loads of easy lag fix solutions.
head over to the android dev subforum, look for any of the lagfix kernels.
Alternatively use cf-root which will allow you to use 2e recovery and thereby apply your update.zip
Do you know which 2.2 firmware you flashed? Was it jk3 or jk4? This sounds like a recovery version issue and not all solutions support every version of firmware.
Ryan's Z4root to root
+ Ryans OCLF for lag fix works for me .
jje
Any lagfix that can be installed as an app should be ok. You'll still be prevented from applying anything via the update.zip method until you resolve the recovery "issue".

My current 2.2 firmware is JP3. This is what is showing after I updated to 2.2 via Kies.

Yes!!!
Ryan's Root and OCLF worked for me aswell.
Rooting worked fine on the first go but lag fix resulted in a black screen on my galaxy. As I had an external SD card in my phone, I removed it out and ran the lag fix again. It worked this time!!!
hey guys! its been awhile since i been here my Brother wants his Galaxy S rooted and flashed to a different firmware!
i searched around but cant really find any info on the i9000m model. Hes running 2.2 i9000UGKC1 ( i believe that is the newest update)?
so what are my first steps to gain root? then flash? maybe a point to a root tutorial then a post to a flash tutorial for the i9000M would be handy, i just cant seem to find them haha, been so long since i was here. So can anyone give me the down low on how the mods are going and things needed to get root and flash?
thanks guys
Bump! any one here? im reading that root is possible for the i9000m but flashing might not be? im confused.... is it still odin used to flash and unlock the bootloader to flash new roms?
i've got an i9000m and rooted with SuperOneClick, then once rooted flashed speedmod kernel with Odin. No problemo.
Just make sure before you do anything that you can access Download mode and Recovery Mode via the '3-button' method ie. turn off then hold power/home/vol down (or up) respectively.
been busy since so haven't yet tried a custom rom, but yes, you can root and flash an i9000m!

so im reading that i can root with superoneclick
then afterwards i can flash CWM Recovery with Rom Manager? and start flashing roms right? without ODIN?
thats how i used to do it on a htc phone, does it work same with i9000m?

Bump anyone inform me as if this is correct? with the i9000UGKC1 firmware?
Bump, want my information verified, dont want to screw up my brothers phone haha
hey sorry i haven't checked in in awhile either - don't know if it still helps but i rooted with KC1 2.2. then flashed speedmod kernel (only realised afterwards could have just flashed the kernel and used it to root - rooted initially with superoneclick).
been super busy but now have a bit more time to look at more developments - just basic stuff like going to GB, maybe a new kernel and start looking at other ROMs again.
Hi all, so I recently sent in my I9000M Bell Vibrant to the service centre in Montreal to get it fixed (it had a fried internal SD) and they sent it back to me with a replaced motherboard (that's what I'm assuming because the phone's mac address changed and the internal SD is in working order now) but as a result the phone is no longer unlocked, which is a problem because I'm not with Bell.
They shipped the phone back to me with 2.3.3 installed, kernal version 2.6.35.7-I9000UGKG3 and I was wondering if anyone could help me root this thing so I can get it unlocked. I looked around the forum and tried SuperOneClick which didn't work and was unsure of where to go from there.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!
try flashing one of the kernels designed to install root e.g. Chainfire's kernel (basically stock plus root)or Hardcore's kernel (custom kernel but very robust) -- as you are on KG3 you will need a kernel designed for 2.3.3, not one for jvr or jvs.
Both CF and HC are very good at listing all their kernel variants with the right number of the firmware.
Flash using Odin with the kernel as pda, HC especially has some some clear instructions posted. It will leave you on KG3 stock rom and CSC.
You can also jump some steps, flash stock JVR as pda, leaving your KG3 modem and CSC in place, then flash a more recent JVR 2.3.4 version of either the HC or CF kernel or one like Damian's if you want to move further away from stock.
There are some further questions and answers in the thread on KG3 -- Bell users finally got a GB modem but not the latest GB firmware yet. Some have chosen to customize and go with thelatest firmware, some just wanted to root and stay on stock KG3.

hi did you ever figure out how to root this? i'm tryign to figure it out too
I have the same question.
I have the same question. All I really want to do is root the phone and keep the stock GKG3 kernel. However, I can't find a tool that works on the Bell i9000m running this 2.3.3 version of Android.
I've tried superoneclick and the Gingerbreak tool from Chainfire but nothing works.
Is the only way to root this to update the kernel? I was looking at the CF-ROOT downloads and not sure which one I would use if I used this option.
Kernel
thanks igsshedden. I found Hardcores kernel for the i9000m here

Updated Oct 27:
Found this method to update the I9000M http://blog.brahm.ca/2011/08/install-android-233-with-root-on.html
Will try and post my results.
Think it was cf-root 3.7 kernel that I flashed with Odin to get root then from there tried a bunch of roms now I'm using what's in my Sig and its wicked
Daily I9000M

Semaphore 2.9.0s

I flashed stock jvp gingerbread with odin so the phone became an i9000, instead of i9000m then you can flash a rooted rom,I then used Galaxy S Unlock from the market to unlock. took a lot of figuring but it worked. good luck

Alright, so this is my first time posting as I can usually find my questions in another thread... Haven't been able to find this one however.
So I rooted my phone earlier today and have been trying to get the Clockwork Recover Mod on it. I followed a tutorial and made a bad mistake... It seems I downloaded a CF-root made for the i9000 as opposed to the i9000m. Now when my phone tries to boot, it cycles between displaying the start-up screen for each, but it never boots. I can still access download mode, which I understand means I can still change it... But what am I supposed to do?
Further info: Running Android 2.3.3 on Bell.
Thanks!!!
Ditch the i9000m stock rom (which is UGKG3 2.3.3, the one you're probably using) and flash JVT (2.3.5) stock rom, then flash CF-root for JVT. The Bell i9000m will run on the International i9000 firmware and this should get you out of the bootloop.

I hate to sound super uninformed, but how should I go about doing that? Where do I get the stock rom for 2.3.5?
Thanks so much for the help though, I might just need a few extra steps to help get me there...
EDIT:
Would I just use this?

Follow the instructions on here. Use the JVT 2.3.5 PDA, KG3 modem, and csc...its the canadian one. And you might as well repartion with 512 pit. All this can be downloaded on the link above. After you do all that you will have the latest gingerbread firmware. Now you can root with a JVT kernal like semaphore or CF root. There are also a bunch of custom roms you can use on JVT not much if anything for I9000m . The only thing you need from I9000M is the modem and csc....otherwise your cell coverage will suck. I assume you already have odin, if not its available on the above link aswell.

good advice. One other idea, since CF root tripped you up the first time, reduce your anxiety level and root using Hardcore's kernel for JVT or something similar -- one that is robust and also has good step by step instructions.
Question on which files to pull from the site for kernels, modem and csc files...

I have a Bell Samsung Galaxy S I9000M also and am trying to install the Clockworkmod 2.5 hardcore kernel also and got into this boot loop...fortunately, I had the kg3root.tar with the kernel in it to re-flash and get operational again.
For us newbies, perhaps you could direct us to the specific set of files that we need to flash (with links to them) and the instructions to apply them.
I think to have a rooted gingerbread with clockworkmod recovery functional...at this point the ICS update should be able to be done using the instructions on the web. (hopefully)
thx.
