This is my first impression on installing applications on HTC and I am a bit worried about the disclaimers I saw and to be honest, I wonder why no one discusses this matter.
Before installations of most (99%) applications, a disclaimer will inform you that the application will have access to your confidential data, contacts, accounts, data connections, etc.
For me, this is a reason to worry. Why on earth should a barcode reader application read my contacts?
If any one here knows more, please drop your ideas please.

Hi
I've done some searching on the forum but I haven't found anything about this (possibly lousy search strings).
I have this issue where the contacts are all there if I access them from the today-screen, but in the messaging application when I try to add recipent no contacts are visible and if I search it just searches forever and nothing happening. If I type in a number and choose "check names" it will find the correct name and number from the contacts database.
This issue did pop up after a while, both with the stock HTC ROM and Duttys 7 that I'm currently running. I haven't really installed many applications besides of what was in the ROM but KaiserTweak, SKTools, TomTom, Resco Explorer/Utility pack, IM+, Google Maps and Mobipocket and acbPowerMeter.
I have been playing abit with registry settings, but nothing that I can imagine would affect the contacts database in any way. I did run some of the cleanup-stuff in SKTools yesterday, removing some broken .lnks, emptying some of the cache/temp folders and optimizing the registry size.
Is this in any way a known issue and is there any solution? I'm running out of time before I have to go for christmas vacation, havent really got time to do a hard reset and set the device up again, especially since I'd be installing the same applications again I fear the issue would reoccur. I'm greatfull for any input on this.

I've the same problem. My contacts are there if I access them through the Contacts application or the alias :CONTACTS. But if I try to add a contact in the SMS application no contacts are available when I click "to".
Hope someone has an idea how to fix it...
I solved with a hard-reset and new installation from start, because after an attempt of restoring a Sprite-Backup I still had the problem.
Hello,
I recently got a Tytn II and I am very happy with it, but I do have a problem which seems quite widespread. I did search these forums and the Web in general for a solution, but I found none and I'm here asking for your help.
Problem: I have over 1.000 contacts and jogdialing through them is out of the question. "Letter-pointing" (selecting say, "H" to see all the contacts starting with H) is similarly useless due to fat fingers
Commonly suggested solution: categorize your Outlook contacts, then apply a filter to list only a category at a time.
But this involves another problem: everytime you access Contacts, the filter is disabled. This forces you to use two hands to reselect the filter, which is undesirable (eg while driving or doing other complex tasks) and needlessly time consuming.
And this is where the forum threads stop, usually. BUT there are lots of Contacts Manager applications out there, and there MUST be at least one which:
- Allows a filter to stay put until removed
- Integrates seamlessly with the OS, without forcing you to launch the app whenever you just need to access your contacts
- (optional) has an Italian translation
Yet I have scoured the Web but I haven't found anything useful, apparently.
So here is the question: did anybody out there solve this problem, and how?
Thank you for your kind help,
b.
I solved the problem in the end. This is my solution, for anyone having the same problem.
* Install WM 6.5.3 (I don't know if 6.5.* has the same options)
* Launch Outlook on your PC and manually edit all your contacts (yes, it's a drag) putting your preferred group names *in the Company field*
* Synch
* Set Windows Mobile to display the contacts "by company"
VoilĂ ! The filter will stay put. Just don't forget to "companize" your future contacts in the same way.
OK.. so i come across a second hero that i want to keep stock... I was going thru it and adding things when i tried to sync facebook i noticed the contacts did not sync... the updates work and what not.. and my contact card was updated.. but contacts appear in contact list.. Any help would be appreciated..
EDIT..before i get flamed i have searched XDA. havent really found a solid answer or anything that worked
If I remember the stock people app correctly you'll need to click link inside of any contact that you want to link to facebook.
I know i can do it that way...but at one point in time it would import my contacts from facebook to my contacts on the phone... i would have their emails, phone numbers, etc.. just by syncing facebook... i have heard s few people say this will not work with 2.1 bc something is wrong with facebook and the phone communicating... still trying to figure this out
thats the only way I know how to do it,on cupcake it was automatic as long as you set up the contact to sync when you put it in your contact list originally. I think they took a step backwards in that aspect when the did the update.
almost makes me want to downgrade..lol...i really miss that feature...
The Facebook contact sync should work just fine. They didn't remove that feature in 2.1.
Try deleting the cache and data in your Contacts, People, and Facebook apps. Go into Settings-->Applications-->Manage applications and then scroll down and find Contacts Storage. Open it and Delete cache and data. Then do the same in People and any Facebook ones too.
!!!Warning -- This will delete all the contacts from your phone, so make sure they are all linked to Google before you do this!!!
Afterward, it will take a few minutes for all the contacts to be re-synced/re-added back to your phone, but this may fix the issues you're having and get your Facebook ones in there now.
Small problem regarding the facebook sync feature. Sometimes, people invite me to groups such as "5 000 000 Support Japan with a CLICK". I have RSVP'd "Not participating" on it, but it still shows up on my phone calendar.
To make matters worse, it's a recurring event which is every day at 14:00 or something like that, which clutters up my calendar. I have the same problem with some other events.
I can't find a way to delete it. I still want to use facebook sync function for birthday reminders and events that I actually do want to go to.
So, XDA, is there any way to solve this annoying little problem?
Go to the event page on facebook (the actual site, not the app). At the very bottom there is a link "Remove from my events". That should remove the event from your calander when it next syncs
I feel your pain. I am actually tempted to remove friends who do that on facebook.

Woop, blessed be thy soul! I was looking for such a function but I obviously didn't look hard enough.
Though I must say that putting such a button on the bottom of the page doesn't seem very user-friendly.
Thanks.
To me did not work, another idea, please?
That did not work for me either on my HTC Desire.
No matter what I do, the damn event persists on the calendar.
I've also tried deleting both Facebook, Facebook for HTC Sense and Calendar data, and still, with 0 data, the all day, 3 month event is there on the "facebook calendar".
Does anyone know where HTC Desire stores information on the facebook calendar's events?
Sweet lord, I finally found it!
From askmefast.com How_to_unsync_calendar_htc_android_facebook-qna301278.html (sorry for not posting link correctly, forum doesn't allow me to)
If u want to keep your facebook calendar but just remove that annoying event that is cluttering your calendar just open the event and hold the MENU key until the QWERTY keyboard appears then press backspace and an option to remove the event will appear!
That's it!
Thank God

I actually made an account for this forum just so I could thank you for that....I've been trying to do this for weeks. Genius, worked perfectly
I have the same issue and the HTC tricks not work for i9000.
Anyway to remove the unwanted recurrence facebook events? Even removing the event from facebook homepage can't fix the issue. The only way to work is clear the calendar storage then resync. However by clearing the storage all birthday info will be gone. (To fix this you will then need to clear the contacts storage.. and re-link all friends)
I am still looking for a way to remove the facebook event in i9000. Maybe editting the database directly can solve the issue. Any hints from XDA?
Hello,
I also have this irritating issue, and the solutions mentioned above didn't work on my SGS2. Any other suggestions? Having this idiotic event in my calendar every day is greatly annoying. I've tried deleting all data, resyncing, I don't have it on my facebook page... seems like a bug to me.
Solution?
Anyone?????????????????
I have alot of crap like adress fb connections and stuff in my contacts. And now i want to clean up my contact so i only have the name phonenumbers and mailadresses is this possible to do in bulk?
Ive tried via export and excel but it does not seem right cus i get alot of adreeses in teh name colume and dont want to do anyting that could go wrong.
I have no dublicates like all the other threeds but i want to clean up everyting except the importent stuff on each contact in a bulk kind of way.
Thanks in advance
You could start by merging duplicates in Gmail through a browser, if that is part of the problem.
Slightly related, I really don't like skype, facebook etc swamping my contacts with theirs...
This is an awesome and annoying feature of current systems. It pulls all your contacts into one place but it also pulls all of your contacts into one place lol. FB contacts are the worst. I'm way OCD about this stuff, but I've resigned myself to just not think about it, as cleaning it up would be insanely time consuming. If I need to contact someone I look them up. If the contact has a bunch of crap or duplicates I delete it at that time.
If you are in the mood for some learning you could batch them in Access to remove info and export to a CSV Excel. Access isn't all that hard to learn and I think is actually easier to use for data mining/manipulation than Excel.

I would recommend you try http://app.fullcontact.com
Did me a great help with managing my 6000+ contact base.
I've tried every single pay service but to be frank they know what they are doing.

Turn off facebook contact sync?
alternatively: Contacts --> Optionkey --> Contacts to Display & Contacts --> Optionkey --> Settings --> Only contacts with phones
