You should think about grabbing a copy of Copilot Live 8. Tried it, loved it. Have since transferred it to my Streak, but it works great on X1.

IGO8 8.3.4.xxx, no doubt! If you would like version already running on Xperia X1 p.m me. This version support voice alerts, live update, bluetooth support, 3D builds and up-to-date maps...

hi ferlareno, plz guide me to hav igo on my xperia x1i am using energy rom ...thanks in advance...

Second vote for IGO8. Works perfectly on my X1 and other WM with GPS.

Navigation software, open streetmap
Hi,
this may be my opportunity to contribute:
For I am a new user, I am not allowed to post links, sorry. Google will help you.
I was also looking for navigation software, especially for biking.
There is a internet routing service which uses open streetmanp maps. Which seems to be pretty good.
The domain is:
openrouteservice
You can switch the language to english.
While searching for a pocket application I stumbled upon
wiki.openstreetmap org wiki WinPDA
Here you find tons of software which you can try. Currently I am not able to recommend anything, cause I am still trying which suits me best.
Currently I am testing
monav
I think your choice will depend on your usage of the software, the memory of your phone and if or if not you have a internet flatrate (> google maps mobile).
I want to switch from google to a software, which uses maps stored on sd card to cut my cost.
Hope I could help,
Jens

What GPS software

Does anyone know of any other GPS software available for the Kaiser I'm currently using TOMTOM but was wondering what others were available. I need it to have UK maps and I also travel to Florida fairly often so maps for there would be nice too.
I dont want this to turn into another " What is the best GPS software" thread. Just what is available out there and possibly a link to trial versions (if your feeling nice)

No NEVER!!!! use orange maps lol
Windows Live Search Mobile. Great software from Microsoft. Since you're UK based it has maps available for the UK and US. Hope you have a data plan though because it downloads maps on the fly.
I use a combination of tomtom, garmin, google and live search moblie....tomtom is more responsive, performance wise compared to garmin. Garmin is more refined and has some neat features.Bottomline, it all depends on personal preference.
Sygic McGuider
garmin seems nice. i know you can load your own custom poi's, and not be limited to 10mb like on a gps unit!!!
How about Navigon MobilNavigator.
I have been using it on my Kaiser ever since I got the Kaiser (I used it on a Herald, a Wizard and a Universal before) and I have always been very happy with it.
I find that the route planning is the best available.
Give it a try.
Good luck with your choice.
nebc100
I've tried a few different GPS apps and I think that the new iGO8 beats them all. Give it a shot... can't say anything about the maps in UK and US though.
Destinator...
Wayfinder - can subscribe to another country for a month or more.
did anyone had problems with wm 6.1 and igo 6 plus?
since i had instaled wm 6.1 (the official htc release) ..i couldn't reinstall igo 6 plus...
Yes

Totally agree, this is some great software, the maps are in great detail and the signposts/exit direction signs are lovely. Really easy to see. Then theres the TTS, best one yet - it actually says 'take exit off motorway, junction 3a' in a non robotic way. Its all good..
Google this - Sygic McGuider - and you'll find it..
I personaly use miomaps mainly becasue, you can put on whatever maps you want and all the United States are divided up. The program plus Florida maps is under 92mb
I use iGuidance 4, it gives you door to door directions and works well with my at&t tilt. I use GPS Utilities if I am out camping and hiking.
maporama is pretty good - used it on my i780
http://shop.maporama.com/index.php?cPath=43
but I use tt6 on my kaiser
My personal choice...
I've tried destinator, route 66, sygic...
was a staunch tomtom 6 fan until I got my hands on ;-) a copy of IGO 8 - it really has all the best features from all the other systems in one app. The speed camera support is phenomenal - if you pass the start of an average speed camera, it monitors your average speed and tells you if you go above it until you get past the average speed camera zone... and with static cameras, it only beeps if you're speeding, and keeps beeping until you slow down (Route66 is the only other that does this)...
There is also a Text to Speech engine (TTS) so if you want it to, it will actually speak the road names.
You can just copy the relevant files to your sd card and run it from there without installing it...
Message me if you need more info...

Windows Mobile Equivalent Apps (Equivalent to Symbian S60 V3)

Hello again,
As I mentioned in a previous thread, I’m due to upgrade my handset in the coming weeks from an N95 to the Touch Diamond (MDA Compact 4)... I have some really good apps on the N95 which I rely on a lot. I was wondering if anyone knew of any WM6.1 alternatives to the following apps...
Nokia Internet Radio
http://europe.nokia.com/A4668051
Hundreds of streaming radio stations over WiFi or HSDPA
Shazam ID
http://www.shazam.com/music/portal/page/default/template/pages/p/shazam_id.html
Music track identification - the app records a sample of the track and tells you the name and artist via data connection WiFi or HSDPA.
Nokia Sports Tracker
http://www.nokia.com/A4388200
GPS Tracking of my sports activity (running / cycling etc) routes viewable in google earth via KML file.
Nokia Conversation
http://www.nokia.com/A4568203
View text messages listed by contact as opposed to going to inbox and sent items separately
I've already checked my other key apps:
Shozu
JoikuSpot
Route 66
And they all appear to support HTC devices such as the Cruise and the Kaiser etc, so I should be ok there.
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated - not sure if i should of used a different forum for this really.... if a mod feels ti should be moved please go ahead
Garry
1) the original wm 6.1 text messaging shows you both the send and received at the same time and you can also see them while you r typing so you could reply back to the received questions
2) there is also a program for internet radio on the htc, i have used it and it is perfect. it think it is spb radio. check it out
Excellent, thats a good start Thanks!
Anyone have any alternatives to Shazam and Sports Tracker?
Alternative for sportstracker is RUNGPS
Ah sweet! Thanks lappie!!
after some searching i found tthese....theres probably better ones but the results looked promising:
http://www.mobilemarketingmagazine.co.uk/2006/04/shazam_for_wind.html
http://www.getjar.com/products/12049/InetToolsTrackID
http://thinkabdul.com/2007/06/17/fr...t-album-info-of-recorded-music-clipsongsound/
Another nice Symbian application is Nokia's Lifeblog, overall due to its ability to get synchronised with the PC client... Is there any equivalent in the PPC world?

Ya truly something like Nokia Lifeblog in PPC will be truely appriciated..
New here and also looking into moving off Symbian and over to WM... scary stuff ;-)
We do a lot of geocaching and having Geocache Navigator installed on the N95 is great (when a phone signal is present of course) to find cache's close by or check on cache details without having to take printed pages along. It will also guide you via a compass and bearing to the Lat Long location of the cache...
Any apps specifically for geocacher's that will interact with the geocahce web site / data base ?
cheers
Shazam ID works on Diamond
I have Shazam ID working on the Diamond. One problem.... I have to reset the Diamond each time I use the program. For some reason it will not shutdown properly because it is not made for a touch phone. Maybe someone knows how to use it better???

Memory Map on Android

I have been using Memory map on windows mobile for a while now and find it excellent, i have contacted them about a Android version and they have said they have no plans at the moment, so my question is....does anyone know of or is making an app that can read the mmnav files that the maps are saved in ?
This is a fantastic routing prog for hiking, walking, biking etc would love it on my Hero......lets see.......
thanks in advance for any help
I think David gave the impression he was working on this.
I would advise to check
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=565516&highlight=os+maps
mail him, and give him some money
Have you tried OS-Maps?
tried em ...
thanks for the suggestions, i have tried both but neither work with the mmnav offline maps that i looking for...will keep trying
Any news on this?
The only thing stopping me from migrating too android is the lack of map software.
I have memory maps for WM, so have maps permanently on my phone.
The key difference is it means I can disable gprs/phone when hiking and save a HUGE amount of battery. the computer sync is nice too.
I want to leave WM behind and go android, but can't until mapping software is good
What is out there?
I would love to get an update on this as well. OS Map does not work in the US and the benefit of Memory-Map is having the map stored on the phone. Critical when you don't have a data connection. Not unusual with T-Mobile.
Check this out http://www.viewranger.com/android/
also look for OS maps on market, might be useful?
Am in same boat as a few others here...
I have EVERY map produced for Memory map(due to job its a must) So am reluctant to move completely from WinMo as the cost of the maps for memory map alone is in the thousands(YES I paid for them not warez). Same goes for Garmin mapsource too..
If we could use all this data on Android may be I would ditch My WinMo.... Till then WinMo is my primary phone and Android just a play thing.
Yes there are several apps out there that show great maps and even os maps but they rely on data connections which is often a problem when out in the mountains. Offline data is a must thus saving battery and cost... Viewranger is ok but that requires purchasing further mapping data I ALREADY HAVE....
The best solution I have found so far for android is Oruxmaps but this still requires the atlas creator to download and create OS Maps using Mutlimap maps.. But when you compare maps say the size of the peak district Orux maps 25k and 50k against memory maps they ares so different memory map = 200 Megs oruxmaps = 1.4gigs
So for me Memory maps and Garmin Mapsource is the main reason I can not move to Android...
Hope there will be a solution forth coming..
regards
Lohtse
Gonna haveto say,I love mem map, I need something that can read Raster Map files. There is no hope to read MMO files, as they are propitiatory files to Mem map. Give me somthing that reads raster maps, and I am gone from WinMo.
Hi,
i had the same problem when i was thinking about switching from WM to Android. So i decided to write an app to read and display QCT files from SD card.
I put this app in the Android Market. It is called "MM Tracker".
There is a free version which just can display the maps and shows your GPS position.
The pay version can record and display tracks as GPX files and is still under development regarding new features.
@Admin: I hope this is not unwanted advertising ? If so, please remove this post. But as i was looking for such an app for a longer time i think this information is useful for some Android users.

I think Android has some way to go to be on par with WM, theres so much more WM can do as compaired to Android, Android just seems very basic to me.
Thanks again.
tried to find mm tracker on market but didnt find it! Could some one post it here please?
Sent from my HTC Hero
figured out why can't find MM tracker... You have to have 2.2 froyo flashed.... So mm tracker is somewhat useless to most everyone....
thank you anyway for the effort

Not useless for me, very good program, reads all my old qct maps.
but then I do have 2.2 flashed.
Well alot of us don't have 2.2 flashed. For me its because phone is running great at the mo and don't wish to prat about reinstalling 470+app's on 2.2 just for one app (tried it and well 2.2 seems to dislike 300+app's and that's all ver's have tried) Also 2.2 on hero is still bugging where as 2.1 is near perfect now..
So I PLEAD with the developer to make it 2.1 compatible I for one would be most greatful and consider paying for full version..

would definitely recommend flashing either floyo or froyd 1.5 to your phone along with flykernel 11.. extremly stable, even faster than 2.1 w/ or w/out sense

tried several inc villain one had issues with all... Most just would allow me to install all my apps either via titanium, my backup or manual... hence sticking with 2.1
Hmmmmmm! I dunno???????/
Maybe you should update your phone? I`ve had no problems with stock 2.2 froyo on a HTC Desire, apart from it not being as good as WM.
Most software writers will wirte software for latest firmwares will they not? lower vers will soon be obsolite?
someone correct me it i`m wrong?

I LOVE PEOPLE WHO SAY UPDATE YOUR PHONE LOL.......... Oh Dear that made me laugh.........
As to latest firmware comment it would seem more with the android community this happens .Im primary a WinMo user (got 15 of them) and alot of developers write to allow for wm200se,wm5,wm6,1 an wm6.5 plus wm7 so not always the case... Anyway this has moved away from the issue in hand which is the need for memory map on Android...

GPS Navigation App for Manila, Philippines

I'm wondering what GPS Navigation app is best for Manila, Philippines. I badly need help with directions, and Google Navigation doesn't work here yet.
Any suggestion free/paid (preferably free, but I doubt there's one)?
been searching for something like this as well.... nothing yet. our only hope is to get garmin to release software for the android (since they are releasing the garmin phone soon anyways). i believe only garmin has maps for manila... but even these are probably not official since the garmin website doesnt indicate that they have maps of the phillipines.
Yeah. I have a Garmin device, but I haven't seen a good enough map. I think, there are good maps out there, though.
I hope, we can extract that GPS navigation app from Garminfone
Sygic has maps for Metro Manila only for the Philippines.
Im also searching something like this... software that could support Malaysia map... need a free one... had anyone tried IGO for android?
Kumusta mga kapatid, now I'm not sure if this does include Manila, I was too lazy to read through this thread, all I know is that its supposed to be international navigation, so its worth a try.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=630887
The best Garmin maps for the Philippians are free and located here http://roadguide.ph/Download.html#
Will install fine on a Garmin nav only device, winmo, symbian, etc but do nothing for any Android phone that doesn't run a gmapsupp.img, which is every Android except the Garmin ones, at this point.
i've been using the google maps navigation hack for use outside of USA. currently been driving in singapore and I use it quite frequently and it works like a charm. you may want to give that a try.
As long as you can find a suitable map file motonav will use it.
wow
wil try this.. hope this works on my diamond..
Use Garmin Mobile XT
Mga Pre!!!
The best GPS application I am using right now is Garmin Mobile XT.. Its really cool on my HD2 and i found updated maps for Caloocan area, every streets are updated.. Im also enjoying it here at jubail City KSA.. 3 Thumbs up!!
Sygic Mobile Maps
I have been using Sygic Mobile Maps 10 on my N1 for a couple of weeks now. It has a map just for Metro Manila, so just like MapKing the map area turns black as you leave the Metro Manila area.
I find it pretty accurate for Manila navigation.

If I'm not mistaken, that hack won't work if Navigation isn't available for your country yet. I'm on CyanogenMod, and this allows me to run Google Maps navigation, but because there's no data for my area (Metro Manila, Philippines), I still can't use it.

try Navitel v3.5 or v5.0 (for Android), roadguide.ph had given a standard Philippine map on Navitel users, similar map being used by Garmin softwares. Works great on my GT P1000.
will google navigation work in manila? It sounds like the maps will load but will the navigation work?

Samsung Navigon is the best GPS SatNav application I've ever tried. It's free and doesn't need internet connection to run.
You just have to download and save the required Map to your Internal SD Card at first start, after that it will work like a stand alone GPS SatNav.
If you like additional features of the application like Speed Warning, there is a paid version you can opt to buy.
