Theme question (impossible to edit .png ???) - Android Themes

ok most .9's I have been able to modify (slightly) with good success in photoshop.
***edit, this has nothing to do with .9's as you can see in the second picture. wtf? this one has me stumped. can someone point me in the right direction? Ultimately I want to make the greys semi-transparent. thanks for the help

I think you're having issues because the PNG is indexed.
Don't know about photoshop, but in the gimp I just do a Image->Mode->RGB
To make stuff semi-transparent I simply change the layer opacity.
i.e a)cut/paste the needed areas onto a new transparent layer.
b)adjust the transparency of the new layer
c)merge layers/save as .png

essentially gimp is just an open source photoshop
tried changing to rgb...I think there is more to it than that...looks the same
I know how to change the trasparency, just not on this .png
see attachment

here you go, the grey arrow is now 68% transparent.

I noticed that too.

kind of a crappy workaround but I use PS on a mac, and have the same issue.
I just open the image with Preview and save it, then open with PS, and poof.. no problem.

This preview is made in Photoshop and i haven't got a real theme for WM.
If u do not like something, please post it here i will change it
// In pool Windows 7 Theme link is bad. This one is correct http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=677436
Please change that font, it's horrible.
Font will be not a part of theme
// Font changed
i like the idea that the top bar is "merged" with the tab bar.
however the start icon seems to not fit in with the rest of the theme,
something in monochrome would match better with the concept and will be closer to windows phone 7.
just my 2 cents.
btw the link in the poll doesnt work..
cheers
TNX for this. I edited my first post
Looks like... my theme .
Except of the top bar which looks like its elCondors.
Why did you chose to use the blue for the top bar as opposed to the black of the bottom one? Seems a bit contrasting.
Hope it'll be original enough to live alongside my own theme .
PS. Take a look at Microsoft's Metro book. Some good stuff on WP7 like theming in there. Should not be hard to find on google (its published as pdf by MS).

So if u have allready made theme like this one i wouldn't relase this one
maybe you 2 should cooperate and create something better than each theme individually
Hi, It is a pity if your theme does not see the day, because I like the colors.

but maybe you're right
good idea dude, been doing my personal stuff for a while too... but why not create different png images with the transparent photo box so the users can just add their photos of choice themselves?
LOL
This is my personal bootscreen.

I'm sorry, but a "donation" of 5 (!!!) $ is much to high.
Shouldn't be better if you make a tutorial, so people can do it by them self?

yes a psd will be coming in the near future, cause i dont have time to fill requests.
Dont know how well it will work though cause Im using gimp on linux so psd is not the native format. we'll see
I'm running gimp under arch and as far as i know the psd that gimp are able to export is almost perfect.
Photoshop users have no trouble whatsoever to read and edit them, and we have no problems with their psd's.
The only thing that is worth mentioning about the psd is that some layer options won't import as gracefully as thought though.
Hey, what about sending me a link to the .xcf? ;3
Count my vote for a black set.
black would be cool
Yay another set that isn't ugly! Keep up the good work!
maybe make a version with no background (no white sqaure) that would look nice

It is working now. Thank you very much.
Very nice. Thanks.
Sorry for the off topic but may I know what widgets did you use? The one in the screenshot that's in the xda article.
Do you think you could post a white, uppercase GMAIL icon? Because of work I have to use the "EMAIL" icon for my corporate email account. These are great though.

Different background size after edit [OPEN]

hey guys, I am wondering if there is a reason why after I make a market widget semit-transparent that the background is a different size/shape then the original solid color
For example I just did Engadget. After I edited the widget_base_plane.9.png and applied the widget the transparency is there but the transparent window does not retain its same size and the text goes over the backgound .. unlike the original one does.
I see that the file I edited retains the same pixel size after I save the edit as the original pixel size of the untouched file.
I did convert to alpha first and then I just changed the opacity to a greater transparency. saved the file to replace the original.
this is the before:

"lightbox_new_window": "New window",

}
and this is the after:
any ideas would help.
I am using apk manager/7-zip to open/sign the apks and either gimp or fireworks for the image editing.
Using the Mytouch 4g with CM RC1
EDIT: .. this may be in the wrong place .. but the questions thread is just that a single thread .. is this the right spot or did i mess up?
Did you re-draw the 1pixle borders in solid black before recompiling? If not, then that is why. You are losing the content areas in the 9 patch.

no I did not ... funny you say that .. cuz I am currently trying to find something on how to do that using gimp .. or even maybe the draw patch tool .. prefferably gimp
im not sure how to go about doing that
from what i have heard is that i have to
1) open the image
2) resize it by 1 pixel less first
3) edit the image like convert to alpha and opacity
4) increase back to 1 pixel
5)then save it
im not sure if those are even the right steps ..
so basically im not sure of the steps or the process for reducing/increasing the pixel.
do i HAVE to draw a border/lines?
do I have to take a pixel off each side?
ya .. basically no idea .. if you know of a good step by step guide or video that would be great. thanks ...as i cant seem to find a damn thing with google lol
EDIT: I tried to use the scale option in GIMP to go from 320x100 pixels to 319x99 pixels .. then edited the image and then back to the orig size. I still get an error in the log that say there was a problem with that particular file about the border having to be full transparent or solid no inbetween alphas .. so im guessing that wasnt the right method lol
