Sorry if this has already been posted...im a noob and im trying my hardest to research this stuff....my phone is rooted and i have the froyo rom on my captivate...but im wondering how i put a custom dockbar(like the HTC format) and custom icons/wallpapers on my phone...any advice would be great, thanks!
Your first step should be to download launcherpro from the market...it is much more customizable than the stock launcher...

all those are in the development section or the themes and apps section. it is not as simple as just installing an app and making a change. the evo icon dock bar (i assume you mean HTC sense) is typically done through launcher pro through the use of custom icons and dock background.
for the slide to unlock, you need to read the instructions on how to do that. there are entire threads dedicated to it, so i suggest you read

Well, the best place to look for icons and such would be in the main forums, Android, Android Themes. Just find the icons/dock backgrounds you like and make a folder on your SDcard and copy them to that. Then launcher pro lets you change icons and dock backgrounds pretty easily.
As for full themes, look in the Captivate / Captivate Themes and Apps section. There are a couple Metamorph themes right now, which will require you to download metamorph from the market. Also, in the captivate section check the post your homescreens thread and ask questions if you see a screen you like.
Good luck.
kay!
i have a cm htc dream/sapphire 32a rom with the gingerbread UI on it.
i think it looks pretty slick... it's a little sketchy in some aspects, but... you don't have to use it if you don't want.
i hold no responsibility for bricks, nuclear holocaust, or ninjas.
credits:
jm5503 for providing the system dump.
dsixda for his android kitchen that i used to make the rom.
whoever made betterzip.
last but not least, cyanogen and his team for the rom base.
i highly recommend you donate to any of them.

if i'm breaking any uploading rules, pm me and i will remove whatever needs to be removed, and i apologize in advance.
I flashed the magic_gingerbread_mdpi.zip via recovery and hpne hangs on bootloop.
EDIT: My bad - I forgot to flash kernel

make sure you don't have the custom notification bar selected under CM settings.
i also forgot to take that off until you mentioned the bar not being solid black.
This looks amazing on my Cyan Mytouch, but there are some places where the text is still black along with the black gingerbread backgrounds, like when you press the "Menu" button at the homecreen, or in the browser. And the satus bar icons are a bit....small. Still goes great with the gingerbread keyboard, though.

thank you, sir.
it's my first tampering with framework files... so i think it's slightly successful.
if anybody wants to fix the problems, that'd be awesome.. i don't exactly know how.. and i'm pretty happy with it as is...
the only thing i don't like at the 'down arrow' buttons... they look.. dodgy. but whatever.
this doesn't work for me
is it because i'm using the 28.25 radio?

it's a cyanogen rom for the htc sapphire/dream, except it's with gingerbread framework..
so if cyanogen roms worked for you before, this one should indeed work for you, if you're flashing it to your htc sapphire, or dream.
i'm running radio-3.22.20.17
i'm thinkin' a mod should move this to the htc sapphire/magic sub forum.
mod, plz?

Yeah, I got working
Only problems i've seen are the blacked out text in menu and the rough pixelated corners around some things
Pretty nice I must say, looks pretty legit

Replace Cezegg's "menu_background_fill_parent_width.9.png" with one that has a lighter background.
Alternatly, here are all the framework icons I'm using to duplicate Gingerbread's UI in CM61's Froyo...
http://id242.com/cm/framework-CM61-GB23-TNP-ID242.20101207.rar
i flash this: cyangenmod/topic/11654-gingerbread-theme-and-keyboard/page__gopid__101006#entry101006
, and the notification bar and icon has changed, but not button, checkbox change.
P.S.: make sure go to cyanogenmod settings>user interface>notification colours> UNTICK 'custon notification bar' and 'custom pulldown bar' so that you can get a whole black notification bar.
Will this framework-res.apk work on any CM 6.1? I'm on a SGS Captivate running the experimental version of CM6.1.
I tried some of the icons out this morning, and i didnt like the wifi signal ones, they looked sorta like they were poorly made. But the others looked nice!
edit:
probably because my device is a hdpi and not mdpi
Will this work on CleanMagic 5.0.1 rom, or it has to be CM?
Hi there,
I want my app draw to be transparent, like in the LiamStears mod - however I don't want any of the other extras (alternate icons, 5 columns, etc) that comes with it.
Is there any mod available that could just do this?
Thanks,
Alex

I did search... before I posted the thread. Searched again and have no idea what you're talking about :S do you mean metamorph or something?
Sorry if I'm missing something obvious lol!
i'm in the same case
really hard to find something, still searching
In adw launcher there is an option to customize the background colour, you can change the opacity all the way down to make it transparent. I didn't see it in launcherpro but I might have missed it or it might be a launcherpro plus only feature.

Drat, I'm using a sense rom, and I'm not really keen on AWD Launcher/LauncherPro (and similar non-sense launchers).
Thanks anyway though mate !

Ah, glad to know I'm not the only one then!
If anyone could put out a sense theme for MIUI that has accurate icons in addition to the icons not having the clear box surrounding them that would be awesome. The only reason I havent switched to MIUI is because of this. Thanks.

Not 100% sure but 1 prob already exists... do a Google search or look around in the theme engine once u flash it I'm pretty sure I read someone w sense themed things in the post ur mini homescreen thread under android themes (u can theme parts I.e. jus the status bar or icons or the whole Rom) this allows u 2 take parts from other themes for ultimate customization
Sent from my I500 using XDA App
It already exists.
Download miui 1.7.8, then just use the theme manager.
I have and like I said the only one I have found is not accurate with icons at all. Unless there is one that Im missing I dont like an accurate one without any icon outline box exists.
Which one do you guys recomend for theming. I have been running substratum with Nova.
I like the theme store a lot. I'm running a nice dark theme with some purple in it. I've heard of substratum, but never actually used it.
I haven't used Nova on this, so far. I never thought I'd utter these words, but I'm liking touchwiz on the Note 8!

I have always used Nova since my galaxy S2
however... now TouchWiz has the option to swipe down to pull the notification bar down and Substratum is here...
im using a mixture of Substratum / Overlays from XDA / Theme from Samsung theme store with TouchWiz
Also because of these new updates this is my first ever device i have not rooted (YET)
That's pretty big for me!

I prefer substratum and another launcher. Some of the theme store themes look pretty good but the themers are only allowed theme the samsung apps and you end up with the cohesiveness of your theme looking bad.

this was my issue when i used Nova, annoying seeing everything themed and then opening the edge panel and all the icons being totally different.
however the only thing that kept me off touchwiz was the notification bar not being able to be pulled down from anywhere, but now that's 'fixed' ive been using the theme store and overlays... only substratum theme im using is to get the clock centered. still lots more choice with Nova/other launchers but there are some hidden gems in the theme store, or you could even grab some xda themes if you wanna go through the hassle of getting them to stick.
also i dont think substratum has enough choice for Samsung users yet, maybe i am too used to substratum for stock android rom. so much customisation where as for us at the moment barely any in comparison, even less if you are not willing to pay for every theme.

I always forget about the edge panel lol. I'm using Nova now but think I'm going to switch to the theme store for a bit. There aren't a lot of choices at all for substratum yet. I was trying to find a way to change the nav bar but none of the over lays work that I have found.

There's an aosp one in the overlays thread. You could also edit the apk and replace the aosp icons with your own to make your own nav bar using Apkeditor from the playstore
I just like the stock Samsung one better

I have 2 x Themes from theme store by Lucas Kendi.
"Blac UI" is a free theme.
His theme has i think the Pixel navbars.
If you install theme it also changes the Samsung
navbar.Also ringtones, notification sound. Etc
So ringtones etc, you have to change back to you preferred ones
His other theme (i have) Oxy black also changes the navbar.
Overall i use a mixture of Nova Prime /Samsung Themes and Klwp themes.
I found that as stated by others Substratum
themes are very limited and not worth installing on Note 8.
As i already have most paid Substratum Samsung Themes
i use them mostly on my spare Note 5.

Thanks!
Looked promising but it creates a theme at the end rather than an installable overlay like substratum. It's a nice tool to make a theme though
(Only problem is I then loose my Samsung theme icons etc) also have to go through the whole getting a 'Free trial' theme to stick
I'm happy with my setup at the moment anyway :good:
The only other issue I had with that app was not enough options to change I could only change a few bits, was hoping to fully black out apps but could only do headers and status bar etc
