Yes, there is a way... You could step into development to make a better driver.
(sometimes i think this is more http://xda-noobusers.com than for development )

Yes there is a way:
1. battery problem - find cause of the battery drain in the linux kernel and fix it
2. Slow system - buy a new device or solder in new processor.
3. Unstable - this is a port. Ports are usually not yet very stable. Wait or join development.
4. dysfunction - join development and develop missing functions
jeez i just don't get it. How can someone ask such questions?

....indeed :\

wow a little harsh there...droid is very confusing, ppl are asking for help, not smart asshat comments

cause its so simple to stay informed...
you just have to read.
its anoying to see so many people asking before reading....

just read up man....

If you need help then type it normal way. I understand that many people don't know English much, but then at least please form your posts normally.

for what it's worth....
I've had good luck running android stable on my X1 using:
- Neopeek's FRG83
- seandean's kernel v2e from here
- 3D from libGLES_qcom.so. 11.29.10.zip and gralloc.msm7k.so.11.30.10.zip from here
- Gscript Lite & Autostart (root) (from android market) + this script
- Radio version 1.14.25.55 & "only" 595MHz overclock.
The good:
- Stable. No deep sleep crashes, phone is as cool running android as wm.
- Decent battery usage until ~50%
- ~64 hours uptime and counting
- 3D works just fine, if a little slow (neocore gets 16FPS)
- Haven't had to reload keyboard modules yet (but I know the keyboard will hang eventually, hence Gscript to be prepared)
- Wi-fi and 3G data working
- Market works
- ADB works (actually using my underpowered X1 for android application development. if I can get an app working decently on the X1, it will absolutely fly on regular android devices)
The not-so-good-but-not-showstoppers:
- No camera. Not missing it all that much, but the LED would be useful
- Occasionally you need to toggle speakerphone when receiving a call to have sound.
- Wi-Fi is quite unstable and tends to disconnect/reconnect unexpectedly
- A few ``Process X not responding'' messages in various applications (ie no pattern). Choosing wait almost always works however.
In all, I can say it is perfectly usable and there are some very talented people working on stuff that needs fixing.
Be patient.
I was about to give up on android on the X1 too but somehow this combination works very well.

OS Lag - Other Options?

Hi,
I wanted to know if there is any way to run a different OS on this phone that supports all of the hardware.
I love the specs of this phone - and the form factor, however, it doesn't matter which ROM I use, the phone is just so unbearably slow. Even with the light ROMs.
I simply hate Windows Mobile. The processor is not that slow - it should be able to do plenty - but everything takes 3 seconds at least to open. I've missed an inordinate number of phone calls just because the stupid send button takes 10 seconds to respond.
Is there any option at all to forgo a WM ROM and use a different OS entirely?
How can I take advantage of the amazing hardware - but not be dragged down by the software?
HELP!
Moved as not ROM Development.
Try flashing stock then ROM, changing Hard-SPL.. etc.
Never had problem with slow OS unless the ROM is an issue to which is very uncommon..
If it really takes 10 seconds to get the phone to answer a call...
One thing to check is memory -- Do you have a lot of stuff in your calls list or MMS texts? Clear them out.
Which ROMS have you tried? Any 6.1 or 6.5s?
There is no other usable OS now -- Android is getting close but it won't work with all the phone's components

The last ROM I flashed that's exactly what I did - I flashed to a stack ROM - changed the Hard SPL.
The ROM I love - Shifu did a phenomenal job - but after a while - everything just begins to lag...and it's not just this ROM - it's every ROM. After a few weeks - everything just starts to miss a beat and then slowly unravel.
I'm surprised that you've never had any problems with the OS - the consensus is that WM is a generally slow OS - I just thought maybe there's a way to take advantage of the great hardware in the phone without having to use this OS.
Thanks for the advice though.
If you have any other suggestions - they would be much appreciated.

Maybe not 10 seconds - but I have missed plenty of calls because the phone was completely unresponsive.
I do have a LOT of SMS' - maybe that's it. I just flashed to a new ROM (jjblaster3's 6.5) - it's great for now. I hope it stays that way. But they all start off great...you start installing a few programs and then nothing moves.
Thanks for the SMS/call history advice - I'll start clearing out now.
Anything else you can think of would be great.
I went through similar problems. Currently I am using the ROM "forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=428261". This was the best ROM that I tested for my Kaiser.
I was not very fan of windows mobile too, because that i installed android at sdcard and recently found a very good application "forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=623792" to streamline the boot process for the android, without having to wait for the windows mobile start and then boot the android. Android is fantastic, but as has already been said not everything works. The GPS and camera are the major problems yet.
Thanks

Thanks for the advice - I'm not going to head down the Android route yet...but I will check out the ROM you suggested. Have you tried any 6.5 ROMs you liked? I'm running jjblaster3 6.5 v2 right now.
Well personally, I like the STAXXX STYLE ROMs...they are 6.5.3...and VERY fast in my opinion.
ROM Suggestions
Thanks for the suggestion, any ROM recommendations would be much appreciated, here is what I'm looking for:
1) A fast ROM
2) No bugs with common things like text messages, bluetooth, WiFi, Internet
3) Good battery life
4) And if possible - 6.5 - but not mandatory
I know a LOT of hard work goes into cooking the ROMs, so I'm not complaining - but I've found that there are always small bugs that are real deal breakers for me.
I've tried:
1) AthineOS Manila Edition
Text issues, backlight issues
2) Shifu (3.2)
Text issues, screen rotation issues, wifi issues, phone got stuck a lot towards the end (had to soft reset twice a day at times)
3) Jjblaster3 v2
Battery life (very poor - need to charge twice a day) - because there is no easy way to switch between 3G and GPRS (any quick fix for this?)

Do you know of anything to look out for bug-wise?

Android on Xperia - Is it worth it?

I've been seeing a lot of activity of android development for windows mobile and I wanted to know if I should even bother loading Android on my device.
So I have a few general questions.
1. Can someone tell me how fast android runs on xperia? The reason I ask is because WM is great, but only when it's not lagging or freezing. I'm guessing it would lag just as much or more than WM since it's running on top of WM. (though some of my reading says that android is "not" runing at the same time as WM?)
2. At this point the main features Android on Xperia lacks is:
-reliable battery
-gps (According to this article gps should be coming soon to xperia right?)
-bluetooth?
-camera
3. Once all the above features are working it will be possible to make an android rom for the xperia?
That's it.
If Android is not too slow and the GPS and battery issue is fixed then I can see myself using Android on my Xperia.
Thanks in advanced for those who reply.
If you want a real phone OS you have to stick to WM for now. Android is "emulated" through Haret from within WM. Haret is supposed to reboot the device and make it so the device boots into Android, but it only runs off of the SD card. If you run an ultra-lite ROM it is almost like you are running an Android ROM, but it is still patchwork and the kernel is incomplete. So it will be a little slow and there will be some missing capabilities.
There has been a very promising improvement since the Xperoid began, and it is perfectly safe to test, but it is not yet ready for daily use, in my opinion.

1. Android is better than WM, and Faster.
2. Battery is almost fixed, GPS and Camera are coming after fixing battery.
3. when Android is working fine a ROM will be made naturally.
personally, I dont need GPS or camera.
Minus GPS and camera, which are two things which I really only use about once a week, Android is a perfectly acceptable replacement for WM. Battery will not get you through the day though.
Really it's not that hard to try it out, just give it a go and see if you like it. Keep in mind there will always be improvements being made.
At the moment, Android is just for fun. It's a really nice OS, and the work thats being done on this forum is staggering considering its being done by people UNPAID, and IN THERE OWN TIME! Sorry just like to stress that point to people who moan... Huge teams of HTC employees are on 60-70K a year writing code that these guys will probably end up doing a better job of for free, but I digress...
If you want to play around with HTC Sense on Android, which is my current toy, you have to make do without Wifi, GPS, Camera, but I don't experience the huge drop in battery life that everyone else does. Maybe I'm just lucky. If you're patient and wait for everything to load, I'd say that it is actually faster than WinMo. The Clean/Glossy versions have a greater capabilty (you get wifi and such like) and are even faster. Probably best to try that one first. Hope that answers your first two questions.
To the last, we're a long way off a ROM, but if things progress at their current rate I don't see why we can't have one some time before we all retire our Xperia's.
To your thread title, as long as you don't expect too much at this stage and you are willing to accept that this is just a "proof of concept" there's no reason not to try it. All you're loosing is half a GB on storage space on you're SD... And the more people that try it, the quicker bugs can be ironed out, and the major things like camera and GPS can be fixed.
Android is worth the workload. It's running smoth on the X1 and much better than WinMobile. Thanks to the developers.
I don't know why it has to Windows Mobile OR Android.
I for once really like the ability to have a multi-os system.
Therefor I try often new Xperoid builds and am quite impressed by the improvement.
Thanks to everyone working on it !
Greetings

Installing as I type! Can't wait the original kernel to get the battery related patches!
I am having a wired problem - after a while on standby, upon waking up the phone, it freezes. Clock doesn't advance and phone does not respond on buttons/slider. So I do a soft-reset after which in winmo I get a message sdcard is not formatted, do I want to format it. and indeed file system is damaged. And this happens for a second time in a row now! I havent had problems like that with other distributions, at least ones that require ext2 partition. Anyone have advice?
Sent from my Milestone using XDA App
well, i cant charge
So far, it's perfect. Two issues that need to be resolved before I use it permanently is the charging and the battery drain.
Getting really close!

Which kernel did you use? Included one (=21/8) or that from SuperFroyo??

Sorry, was in a bit of a rush
Working: Marketplace, WiFi, GPS, battery meter, sound, messaging, gmail app, browser, ( bluetooth, I think )
Not: Camera, charging, power management
Used: Only the included files, nothing more.
May anyone please test this kernel?

@all Developers:
Thank you very much for the good work, keep it up
@the rest:
I wish you good luck, that you can enjoy android on your X1 as i will do it on my new phone.
Maybe i'll look back in here from time to time, to see the progress.

report?
Total performance is smooth
My location , Wi-Fi, Market , Battery Meter , GMail, Sound, Music is working
other function. i didn't use it.
Overall performance is good, but Force Close dialog is too much show..... when i try to do anything. there's a delay (about 5~10sec?)
All of you guys should really post which kernel you are using. It will be very helpful for the developers!
I am downloading at the moment, will try the kernels and post the results
Original kernel + points about FroyoRedux:
- Charging works (I had it plugged when I launched Android, actually does increase WM battery percentage, too)
- Battery meter shows too much, but I think it will calibrate itself if I finish charging
- Speaker bug is there, headphone plug and unplug fixes that
- A bit faster than CyanogenMod6 with Tremere's kernel
- Nice theme
- Mass storage does not work (should I install a driver or something?)
- Sometimes stops responding to any other key than the top power button = home
- 3D does not work
- Sound and calling work fine, cannot adjust in-call volume (possibly due to the keys not working, but I had this problem with CM6+Trem too)
- Pretty much every app works, YOUTUBE TOO (lags a bit, but works)!
New testkernel:
- Phone reboots when first screen of android comes up
- I just replaced files, it crashed at lockscreen
- Ran a new installation, it crashed at black android system (title) -window
SuperFroyo kernel:
- Fastest one, menu scrolling is pretty nice with this kernel
- 3D does not work, Neocore crashes
- Sound works
- Youtube works, and lags less than with original kernel
- Charging does not work, battery meter shows what comes to it's mind

Tried copy/paste of those two files straight into root of SD-card (can only guess as it's not written anywhere). Phone reboots as soon as it comes to PIN-code page. Tried to restart a couple of times but nope.
Tried the SuperFroyo-kernel as well. Much faster in comparison to kernel from tremere's build 21/8.
Else, nothing more to add other then lkoljo wrote.
Big thx!
tried this kernel
xperia-xdandroid-kernel-20100922
Sound didn't work??
I'm useing the test kernel now, and it booted up without any problems
Gonna test Battery life for 2 hours, then switch back to vm to see if it gives good result's
Did you use the test-kernel from scratch. I mean when first booting up? or did you try first included kernel then after booting up you replaced kernel? I ask this because it's just not clear for me: You say it works w/o hassle and others report that they can't even get into the Launcher or that they have a black screen. I am just confused now
I did first use Tremere's Kernel with your build, and then i just copied the test kernel start from vm and booted it up. It's fast and stable it seems, i did use Android in standby mode for one and half hour. Well i did look around in system meny and such tried calling it but no signal just vibrate wich i did turn on. Battery used in android is 20% from fully charged 100% Switch back to vm says 78% so the meter seems almost correct. Tried original charger but it didn't work, Then tried pc usb charging and it seems to work Gonna try Xdandroid's new kernel now released today. Will get back to you tomorrow
I have now tested the new Xdandroid kernel released 23/9/10 for one and half hour now, switched back to vm and guess what?
i had 100% when i started android, used it for one and a half hour and then i switched back to vm it had only used 9% battery
Thats the best result i ever had using android, so hey if only sound/ mic problem gets fixed then this would be great
Grab the new kernel from thier Xdandroid wiki
I have tested 21/09/2010 [Xperia X1][FroyoRedux-Port][CM6] with the latest kernel from xdandroid (23/9/10) and it works very well, stable and fast. And the battery is a big improvment!!
I also overclocked it to 640mhz and the UI is then superfast.
Keep up the good work

FYI: In the next days there will be heavy updates regarding some of my builds. Fixed almost everything I could! Just trying out today some of the kernels released lately and then I think we will have a really really good CM6-Ports ready for all of you! Everything that's working in XDAndroid "Final" should then also work for us! So maybe I will call my builds "Pre-Final". Another thing that I should mention is that user ferlanero from xda-devs has today shipped over his X1 from Spain to Germany (my location). Once I receive it I will be going to try some NAND-related stuff!
X1 from user sequester will be my porting-device to test ports and latest nightlies from Cyanogen
X1 from user ferlanero will be my nand-test-device
Be prepared to get the proposed updates (see above) on this weekend. Again speical thanx to sequester and ferlanero for supporting me! This really motivates me in doing all this stuff!
Yes zimage to at lest i did

pretty cheap

Oh haha, I have the same problem, your not the only one. But in the android porting of the DIAM, this has been known as a issue, and this point everything is being done. The battery is just PART of a list of bugs and issues.
What you can do to limit battery drain
1] Lower settings on android -Screen brightness, -Use Data when needed otherwise keep it off, also with internet.
2]I have gone through many kernels and it all of them vary, but ill let you know what kernel i have [because its ok with the battery]
3]Be patient because this is a project in the making so fixes will come as they are found [camera, video etc]
ALL this is mentioned through the massive thread [I would hate to read it all]
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=711692
stay tune
Adjust your backlight (for me, the maximum brightness is too strong - I'm photophobic- so I use the backlight on its 30~40%), or turn off connections like GPS, BT or Wi-Fi, just turn on when it's necessary...
It'll save some batt...
If the problem continues, grab a new batt on ebay...
I did it, it seems to be better, after 12h with a low utilization, the battery is at 60%.
But it's long to wait for a good release x)

[Q] Questions about ICS (B4 at now)

General questions about ICS working on our Streaks.
My first: i cant go to the fly mode whithout a crash rebooting. How we can solve it?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Quick review:
1. Fly mode brings into crash -> Dont worry! Simply restart and dont power off this mode, it saves your battery a little
2. No 2g/3g radios -> We are sorry
3. I dont need useless SMS/MMS stuff -> You can uninstall it, but dont uninstall the phone.apk and telephony.apk
4. I have flickering screen at low brightness value -> [Only one way is to change it to a different level] UPDATE: use ScreenDim
5. Floating charge of battery -> ?
6. Games dont work! -> tegra2 drivers not exists
Don't do it.

Yeah, all works fine! , better than HC ... more battery life 300%, free ram, CM9 !! ... iu can install DSP manager ...
Dont work:
... only cam, video cam, phone app, 3g and 4g,no sim detect, fly mode crash, dock station ramdoly crash.
No radios besides wifi/bluetooth work.
And voice calls are still in deep discussion if its possible.
If you restart after (crashed) turning on fly mode, you should stay in it. And you can save some battery power (~7 - 10%, GO power master said, because some telephone modules and mobile internet works in background, inspite of the fact that you dont have sim card). So you can use wifi and bluetooth too (in fly mode).
Also, my Streak charged in one hour and 30 minutes from absolute zero to 100%. Is it normal? Why it is so fast?
Discharging is rather long - about 32.5 hours!
One more question: can i uninstall some system apps such as sms/mms, calls and other useless?
Go ahead and uninstall the SMS/MMS stuff, but for now don't uninstall the phone.apk and telephony.apk, I've actually had worse device performance and more crashes because of it.
New question! How can i get rid from flickering screen at 20-40 brightness value? AnTuTu CPU Master cant use GPU control because it doesnt supported for our device at now. Can we change a kernel to more tweakable maybe?

Because we do not have a 2.6.39 kernel nor a 3.0.x kernel from Dell, we have done the best we can in tweaking the 2.6.36 kernel to work with ICS.
How about not having it at the brightness level? Change it to a different level.
Not long ago i installed BatteryMix program and discover, that my battery have floating charge - sometimes when i power off the screen (cpu frequency and battery temperature is falling), the charge is raising for 2 - 3%! Is it safe?
Guys, i cant play games on B4 at all! I installed many popular games, but they dont run. Even TrialX2, that i played on stock and HS 3.2, doesnt work! I tried Chainfire, but it doesnt help. What is the reason?
Games dont work because of tegra2 drivers, that this rom doesnt have. I returned to HC for this time
I am pretty sure that posting questions that had already been asked fell under this... but then again n00bs never use the search bar

Look over this, people continually ask about it, giveen has told me he will no longer be creating ROMs for the Streak 7 and that DJ_steve is the only hope for ICS_b5 unless someone new steps into the game.
Ok, maybe. So where is some faq about it? We always should read 32 pages of text?

if you are taking the TLDR approach then try from about page 26 onward
There is one thread for all versions, not only for b4, maybe - i dont know, which problem exactly described for b4 (maybe for b2 or b1 or b0.0001). Second reason - this thread is very dirty (its my opinion). Helps him dell or not, have they problems in code or not have, do they need money or bear - i dont care (as usual user). I dont want to read all of this! We need different threads for dev and for users with their questions and faq - it is normal practice for many device branches on xda. But we havent normal thread for rom, normal faq, normal question thread - and you say that i should read all garbaged (for me in this situation) text.
