Is there a way to make a contact with a range of numbers instead of adding the numbers one at a time.. For example when I receive FaceBook post as text messaged, there is 1 of 40 numbers it could be.. Can I add all 40 numbers as a range instead of 40 seperate numbers?

I'm using the stock AT&T rom on my Tilt. I never had that little blue line above the counter that shows how many characters out of 160 I have used in my SMS message. Why did it just pop up now? I've had my phone for months! When I surpass the 160 number, a message pops up that says "Two Messages". How do I turn that thing off. I don't like it. The only thing I did was download and install Skyfire. If I uninstall, do ya think that will help?
It's a limitation of SMS itself. They can only be up to 106 characters.

Correct.
whch is y u c msgs like this
Interestingly, Verizon has worked around this for their customers and if messages exceed 160 characters, even though it actually flies through the air as more than one message, both phones view it as one message. The limit has always been 160 characters. Both phones have to be Verizon.
That makes it $0.00125 (eighth of a cent) per letter for the rest of us.
It's a limitation of cell phones and the capabilities of SMS. I have sent and received 1000+ character SMS messages on my Kaiser. I have sent the same. They display as one message, but are sent as six or seven. The phone just reassembles them.
Old/cheap phones usually end up receiving six seperate messages and receiving six seperate messages.
Does AT&T (or others) charge for just the one message or the actual six or seven that get sent over the airwaves?
They charge for each of the 6-7 messages. That's why the phone display how many it will use, so you can know what you're up to.
Hi all.
I'm trying to do something pretty simple and it's probably just me missing something obvious but here goes:
I'm trying to add contact pictures / thumbnails to all the people or companies that send me text messages. With friends this is never a problem. Normally If someone sends me a text who is not in my contacts list then the sender name simply shows as their phone number - and I can add it to my contacts list and assign a contact picture which the messaging app then picks up ( instead of the standard android picture ( see a few examples in pic 1 ).
However some companies ( I'm using NatWest as an example in this case - see attached pic 1 ) actually come though on the messaging app as NatWest ( rather than a phone number ) - and I have no idea what number the text originated from ( not that I want to reply or anything ).
This means that when I long press on the message and choose to add it to my contacts then it shows the phone number as "NatWest" ( without the quotes - see attached pic 2 ). As a result the messaging app doesn't pick up on the contact picture I have chosen and just uses the default android pic as if it was an unknown recipient.
As you can see in Pic 2 I have assigned the NatWest logo to the contact entry but it still shows as the default picture in the messaging app - as per in Pic 1.
How do I know what number ( probably one of those 6 digit short numbers ) the text is actually coming from? Or how do I get the messaging app to display a contact picture of my choosing rather than the default one?
If it makes any difference I'm using a Motorola Milestone running CM6 12/12/2010.
Thanks.
Hi is there anybody that can help me with this.
In my country the cellphones service provider uses +506 before the phone number for the messages and the sms messages, my cellphone doesnt recognize this. I dont know who is sending me messages, i have to check my contacts phone number to see who is it. Is there a fix for this?

You can do it through your Google account online. Download your contacts as csv, edit the fields, then upload the changes. Editing the fields should be easy, if you use find and replace...
Change at least one number from your phone, so you can see which field out gets assigned to...

The nature of my job is such that I have more than a thousand contacts saved in my contacts list. Since many people have similar names I need the functionality to show nickname, company and designation on the incoming call caller id. I am using contact image to identify most of the contacts but sometimes it seems to be impolite to request a pose while taking contact info especially with superiors. There are some aftermarket apps which do this but they look non-sensical.

I occasionally get text messages from businesses with a 5 digit number. I would assign them to my contact so that their contact name would show up instead of the original 5 digit number in the app. At some point this stopped working because now, I just see the numbers again.
Anyone notice this?
