I'm having a hard time getting the z4file transferred to my sd card so I can try and open it with astro file. You do not unzip the file first correct? I'm horrible with things like this. I used the market app the last time I rooted and I lost my phone and now have to reroot. I'm using windows as well. When I'm in my computer I can't see my sd card under my droid x either. Any help would be greatly appreciated and the more detail the better. Thanks again.
Have same issue with you...anyone can help....PLease....
Can't root as of yet sense new Motorola Droid update, it killed my Z4Root app
need new root app, Verizon Droid update destroyed my Z4Root
(there is a copy of Z4Root on this forum, but I can't get to root with the new update)
Verizon Droid update destroyed my phone. Need an easy way, (preferably app) to root the latest update to my Verizon Motorola Droid 1st, generation.
Verizon Update Droid Forced mandatory stopped me from being able to root my phone using Z4Root, the forced Verizon Droid Mandatory update destroyed my phone causing it to do a total reset.
"IS THERE AN UPDATE TO Z4Root"? Is their another way to simply root for the new Verizon Droid update. It really ticks me off that Verizon/Droid can shove down our throats an update that we DO NOT WANT. I NEED HELP.
This really stinks. This wonderful little Z4Root app gave us who don't have the tech knowledge to go through a difficult manual Motorola Droid, (1st generation
Verizon Moto Droid), root access. This program previous to the update worked flawless, now sense the Verizon Droid update it has rendered this program dead. I am desperate because all my phones backup with with a great market app called Titanium Backup Pro, which I can no longer access due to the root exploit with Z4Root being rendered dead, also can't use BusyBox app.
I spoke to a Verizon tech who off the record & unofficially says that yes he agreed with me that the update was pushed as a great enhancement to the phone, (which I have yet to see any real enhancements), but that the update was designed to stop people from using exploits like rooting & using their cell as a free internet access to your house computer, Teathering, without first buying their hardware and paying an extra fee. What *** they are. The update actually totally wiped my phone, my fiancees phone & my sisters phone, Verizon says that they are aware of it "hypothetically" causing this problem for about 1 to 2 percent of their customers which is not enough to warrant a patch or doing anything about it.
I have a Lg Optimus S running 2.2.1 and z4root 1.3 works fine.
it can root and unroot me with no problems. and I use root explorer to work in the file system after it's rooted.
Why not post this in the Droid X section, you will get help faster?
He said DROID, not Droid X in the post, but the title says droid x. Which is it?

ok very new to rooting just rooted 2 days ago on 893 now installed update to 902 lost root...but here is my concern my phone grants super user but cant gain root access and i didnt unfreeze bloat and the update was still successfull now i cant even access titatium to unfreeze cause root cant be established so i dont understand how i can partially be rooted and just to mention as far as i can tell there are no known problems with the phone anywhere else but what should i do to get root back or is it just a simple configuration problem thanks
There's an exploit available that will root the .902 update -- Motofail. It says Droid 4 but it works with the Bionic, RAZR and Droid 3 as well.
what are the risks im pretty new and dont wanna do something i dont fully understand or that i might regret later..and how did the update complete without unfreezing bloat and where is it now.lol i guess im asking does it matter i just wanna get it right
It's pretty straightforward, basically a one-click root method.
As far as the update, it depends on which specific apps you had frozen. Apparently the ones you froze were not on the list of apps the update checks for.
i can pm you instructions on step by step instructions to root from stock to 902 root if you like someone helped me today about to do it myself here in about 5 minutes
ok thanks for the input i did motofail and it worked back in root now does anyone know of an app to overclock without changing rom

Hello,
I have searched for hours for information in the XDA threads that give an updated and vetted method of rooting a Moto Droid by Verizon. Maybe someone can help?
First, I am practicing rooting an old phone (Original Droid) before I mess with my new phone. I have the Moto Droid by Verizon version 2.2.3, build FRK76. It is not activated for phone service so I will not have any access to Google Play unless I can activate the wifi receiver (which currently sees networks, connects briefly and then disconnects).
As I understand, first comes the root, second comes the ROM, third comes a kernel, fourth comes the fun! I'm not backing up because the phone is basically empty of any apps or data.
Thanks,
Jeremy
There's no mandatory order to keep.
You can just root the stock ROM using "Universal Androot" (Google it to find newest release and mirrors).
You can go right away, install a custom recovery and flash a custom ROM. They're usually root-enabled.
Flashing different Kernels is a bonus for the extra-curious - or those who know exactly what they're doing.
This guide takes you through the major steps. Try it first.
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Install_CM_for_sholes
Thanks.
I tried to download Universal Androot and SuperOneClick from a thread in XDA. Both are being flagged by my virus software as viruses. Is this normal? Also, it appears the most recent version of UA is 1.6.
These Root-methods use exploits that will be flagged by any Antivirus because they COULD be used for malicious purposes.
Since we are actively trying to hack our device this is no problem.
Thank you.
I am trying to root my att moto x (to be honest I am not a developer, so I just followed the guide 'Rockmymoto') then when I am trying to use Cydia Impactor to telnet my phone, it shows 'install parse failed no certificates'. I am using a Windows8.1 laptop, I've also got a Mac, but it seems not the computers' problem, what should I do now.
The only reason I want to root my phone is becasue I want to give it to my father, however it keeps noticing me the 4.4.3OTA, it is so annoying and I cannot turn it off. I heard that the only way to stop it is to root my phone and delet the OTA application. Please help me with it, thank you.
By the way, I am using the latest cydia impactor.

He'd need root for titanium backup.
And to the original poster......do not try to downgrade if you're on 4.4.2 now. You will likely brick, if not now....later. Just don't try it.

Your post doesn't really make sense....
You say you are using an AT&T Moto X, right? Then later you say that it keeps prompting you to install the "4.4.3" update?
AT&T never released a 4.4.3 update. The latest software version for the AT&T XT1058 is 4.4.2.
So which version are you CURRENTLY on? And what is the model of your phone? Go to Settings > About Phone > Status
The ONLY way you can use RockMyMoto is if you are currently on 4.4 or 4.2.2.
Let us know which version you are actually on, and we MAY be able to help you further.
Also, if the only reason you want to root is to disable firmware updates........why? Why not just accept the update, and then it will stop nagging you?
It sounds to me like you might have the "GSM Unlocked" version....the XT1053, and you just happen to be using it on AT&T. Please clarify.
Sorry for the incorrect information, but it is an AT&T Moto X. There is no 'simplified Chinese' in the original rom, so I swipe in a Rogers' rom which comes with the language. And then it means that it cannot accept any OTA or it will become a brick. It keeps notifying me the 4.4.3 OTA which is really annoying. And I need to root first before I can freeze that OTA app. here comes the pictures

I am getting of very good price on a Moto X from AT&T. I plan to unlock it for use in Canada.
I am wondering if tethering / wifi hotspot will be available ? since the bootloader is not unlockable and even rooting might be impossible depending on what android version it comes with, i'm worried i might be stuck with it. and the wifi hotspot is a must for me.
any help would be appreciated.
thanks,

i don't know what ATT's policy is but if you're on a tiered data plan through VZW, tethering is enabled by default.
If you're running 4.4 you're golden can permanent root and disable write protection using slapmymoto, I did it with the toolkit, you can find it here, send me a pm if you need help. If you're on 4.4.2 you can use towelPie to root and the entitlement hack linked below the towelPie root link. I have a moto x verizon locked boot on 4.4.2 and have towelPie set to root at reboot and works flawlessly, but beware verizon is sending 4.4.4 to phones starting today, I got the update downloaded it just to see which update it was and than quickly opened FX explorer and went to the root cache folder and sent it to outerspace LOL and than went to the root/system/pri-apps folder and deleted the 3c_OTA.apk and 3c_OTA.odex files so it wouldn't ever download it again.. beware each time you rebooot you must redelete those two files since towelPie is only good til the next reboot.
After rooting with towelPie than run the entitlement hack linked below.. the dev has set it up to run at reboot, but it doesn't work currently with the 4.4.2 combo using towelPie, towelPie does run and root automatically at each reboot but the entitlement hack is running at the same time during boot and it tries to do its thing before towelPie has done its thing LOL and fails. the solution is easy just run it manually after each boot. works like a charm.
Edit: I have wrote the developer and he has informed me he is going to fix the entitlement hack by placing a time delay in the app so it gives towelPie time to finish root first, so just keep a lookout for his vers. 1.3 in the entitlement hack thread.

and by the way you have to check the option to run those apps at reboot they're not automatically set to do it.
Alright guys, hope you are all doing fine, i finally decided to root my phome, i own a Motorola droid turbo xt1254.
I've researched quite a bit on this topic, to root i need to unlock bootloader and install custom recovery but the thing is i updated my build number to xxxx49 and there is no way to do all these on this build number.
So i found a way to root without doing all these by rooting through king root app or the kingo root pc method.
After im done, i could also replace it with super su as there is an app called supersu me which replaces kinguser to supersu. So guys i need help should i go with king root or not? It is permanent right?

No. Kingroot is temporary, and people have reported that it can sometimes cause repeated force closes that are not fixed on a reboot or cache wipe. To fix this, you have to reflash the 49 image, which will erase your data and is a pain for people who don't know what they're doing. I've never read anything about Kingo root being used on this phone, but I suspect that it will be the same. The system partition is write protected, so any changes made by these apps happen only in RAM. That means that whenever the RAM is updated by the write protected ROM, which happens somewhere between 15 minutes of normal usage and the next reboot judging from the reports I've read, all changes that were made disappear.

With SUTL-49 installed on a locked bootloader Droid Turbo XT1254, you are out of luck.
Sell your phone, then buy lower firmware Droid Turbo XT1254 or buy U.S. Moto Maxx XT1250 (same phone, same FCC ID, same radio bands, runs on Verizon with Verizon SIM card, easily unlocked bootloader ).
