[Q] CyanogenMod 6.1 - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have two questions well maybe 2.5 about the mod.
I read that CyanogenMod 6.1 RC was supposed to be the last version before Gingerbread. That the fine people that devote their skills to provide us with mods for free would continue with Gingerbread. The speculation is that it may take a few weeks to get the code released, Gingerbread released and so a least a few weeks before we see CyanogenMod 7.0 ???
Question 1
Why are there still nightly releases then?
Question 2 and 2.5
I do not see the ability to enter jesters from the home screen or dual sliders I assume these are just turned on where do I find them?
I am running CyanogenMod 6.1 the latest nightly build.
Thanks

Dual sliders is in Settings>CyanogenMod settings>Input settings

CM settings > input settings. I assume you mean gestures.

Yep got it.
Wonder why nightly builds are still occurring

Because Gingerbread isn't out yet and there is still some work to be done.

and the builds are done by a buildbot .. it's automatic.. so they will continue to build even if there are no changes. or not i dunno

You are wondering for the wrong reason, since your first question doesn't even apply.
You assume that they are stopping development to work on Gingerbread. The assumption is false, they aren't stopping work on 6.1. Why would they stop and do nothing for 3 weeks just patiently waiting for Gingerbread source code?
Since they aren't stopping development, your first question is not appropriate. Of course they are still working on 6.1, and that's why there are still updates to it.

Quick question regarding the facebook sync. By reading your summary of the facebook, i wonder if i have a different issue. When i go to accounts and sync, when i click add then facebook. It just goes back to accounts page. Does not even let me enter facebook information. However i am able to use the facebook app.
Is this the bug your referring to, or am i experiencing something different?

Ok, thanks for clarifying. In your summary might want to put something regarding "Unable to add to accounts & sync" , just for others that might be curious.
Wireless tethering worked for me, i just installed the one provided in the 10minute root video again after CM6 was installed. Then tested it and it worked fine. I also have Hydra Rom for stock speed undervoted with wireless N. Noticed when i did tethering it only connected to my laptop in G mode, however i am able to connect to my router in strictly wireless N broadcast.
Had this problem last night which forced me to revert back to stock firmware.
I plugged in my phone to charge at 11 PM. Then at 12.30 ish AM, i heard my phone vibrating. I looked and it rebooted. So i let it be, then few minutes later I heard it again. Then I decided to revert back to Stock.
Thinking that it was maybe caused when charging the battery. That the batt got 100% then rebooted? Not quite sure.
I can test again if needed.
Good idea.
Thanks!
You are most welcome!
Thank You very much
what time is the nightly build and what time standard/zone?
i would love to try this but cant without bluetooth and am hoping it makes it into the next build. in my state they are cracking down on using your cell phone without a handsfree and giving big tickets to make up for budget shortfalls. so i need bluetooth. (i am too deaf for speakerphone, especially on the incredible, its not that loud)
i am excited, especially now i am 90% sure i am keeping the DINC now that the DX is officially going to be a ***** to root and no roms looks likely. and i dont know why blogs that pimp the phone keep saying "root is still inevitable" but i dont agree with that, if you cant get into the boot loader we would have never rooted the incredible and it only makes sense motorola has locked down the backflip root methods and made sure rooting will also be hard.
i just really want a bigger screen and a fast gpu, other than that, the DINC is the best.
cray1000, I edited the OP to answer your question on the build times.
You guys are all VERY welcome! I'm glad I can help make any of this easier. I can't develop (yet ) So this is my contribution for the many things I get from XDA, Koush and the other developers!

and nice, based on your answer on the first post, we have a new build as of a couple hours ago, anyone running it yet? anyone have a revised bug list? should we discuss that here or in the other thread?
It would appear that the incredible has been removed from the buildbot cycle as of the latest build. A version was built today (check the dates) but looking here: http://buildbot.teamdouche.net/tgrid it's no longer listed
I hit check for update on the rom in Rom Manager, but it didnt say there was new rom. The last one under nightly builds in rom manager still has same time stamp as one i got last night.

if you clear download cache and redownload it should be newer, someone posted the repo and it clearly showed a date and time of today even though the file name still said 7-8 or 7-9 on it the time and date were 7-10 unless it was mirrored then or osmething.

The filename doesn't change. Just clear the download cache in ROM manager and then choose download ROM, reinstall as usual. I guarantee its a different file. Updating OP with what my current build version shows.
Sometimes download of apps in market just stalls.
Some apps fail to install. (android-vnc)
Sometimes screen doesn't register touches until rotated.

Deleted the CM6 zip file from the sd card, then redownloaded the nightly build. Installed and noticed the rom version now has 7/11 as the date instead of the zip files number. So thats good. I see you crossed out the green light while charging bug. Thats only difference i have noticed thats been fixed.
I really hope they are concentrating on Facebook, Camera, GPS bug the most. Thats the biggest deal breaker for most i know.

Cyanogen Mod 6.1?

What's the difference between CM 6.1 RC and the actual release?
(The official changelog has zero indication of the changes between these, which is why I'm asking.)
Is it worth upgrading? I've been running 6.1 RC for weeks now with no issues.
I've yet to find anything noticeable.
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
I'm not sure, but I think the notification power widget, lock screen gestures and 2 extra sliders on the lockscreen for messaging and phone came with rc2, so, if those are interesting, it may be worth an update.
I don't use any of those but I'm staying on rc2 because it only came out 9 days ago so there's probably not much change between it and the release.

No issues on my end either with rc2. I have read though that others are reporting fixes with issues they were having. Guess its just dependant on how you use your phone. I upgraded to the stable version myslef.
good question. I have asked this myself too , as the change logs are the same. I suppose noone can be bothered doing a write up every time and i cant say i blame them. Personally id rather see RC's and bugfixes than changelogs if i had to pick one or the other.
Documentation is a huge time consumer, and for talented coders, its a explanation for the layman rather than more progress.
Maybe you could volunteer as the cm scribe.
From what I can tell, there is some added functionality with the lockscreen. From RC2 to stable: I believe you can now pick the application that the messaging slider opens. Also, maybe disable the sliders all together? Change the color of the gesture trace
I assume you have spent some time on a theme that won't survive an update? It doesn't take but a couple minutes to flash the stable version, no wipe/restore/etc needed.. no real costs to upgrade

Well from RC to RC or from RC to stable release, I'd figure that SOME type of indication as to what happened would be useful since every single person that downloads CyanogenMod will be wondering this question.
5 minutes by 1 person could save thousands of minutes of others wondering / asking / creating new threads (like the one).
Documentation is always worth it (and I'm a programmer).

I have the notifications widgets, and I use a lockscreen replacement (WidgetLocker) so I guess I'd never see those new lockscreen features.

CM 7 Release Candidate RC 4.0 available on Nook Color

It is finally here!
http://reviewhorizon.com/2011/03/cyanogenmod-7-0-rc-4-release-candidate-for-nook-color-available/
...and brings hardware acceleration
Straight from nightlies to RC........ wow
Ok, for those interested, i do not believe this will have the video lag fix.. i do not get how this can be an RC level release....
I just installed it and it seems to work fine, including YouTube. No lag detected, at least on my Nook Color.
Anyone know if the sleep issue has been resolved?
Or if the menu lag/garbage collection issue has been fixed? When I tried it about a week ago certain apps such as Reddit is Fun were basically unusable due to the extreme menu lag.
thank you XDA
You've given me a very nice tablet for cheap.
Glad to donate. This is really fun!
CyanogenMod-7.0.0-RC4 has arrived
CyanogenMod-7.0.0-RC4 has arrived
http://www.cyanogenmod.com/blog/cyanogenmod-7-0-0-rc4-has-arrived
The next round of RCs have arrived. From RC2 until now has mainly been bug fixes and we’re getting near the final state. In this release, there may still be some lingering GPS issues on the Evo and the N1 call audio bug hasn’t been fully fixed. But if you were happy with the previous RCs/Nightlies on your device, there is no reason not to update to this one.
That being said, this is the most stable version of CyanogenMod 7 to date and will probably be the last RC before the final rolls around. The most notable new fixes are on the tablet side of devices. The Nook Color, for example, now has working hardware acceleration. Because of these fixes, many of them are receiving their first RC. There was also a big fix from AOSP for EGL issues, which is why all devices bumped to RC4 from RC3.
Feel free to grab CM7-RC4 (or RC3.14159265358979323846264338327 as we call it internally) from ROM Manager, our forums, or our mirror network if you prefer manual downloads.

Try the new version of Wake Timer in the Market. Works for me on Froyo.
Are there any major issues in RC4 that should make me hesitate to move up from Nookie Froyo to CM7?
Does the internal media partition work properly on this ROM?
Sent from my Nook Color!
Only issue I had was that I had to manually install google apps to get the market working.
Other than that- I miss the Tablet Tweaks.
can i flash this over the 29 nightly with out wiping
Yes.

Nightly over nightly gave me no problems.
You might be fine.
Worst case is that you would have to boot into recovery to re-flash the rom and wipe data and cache, so just make sure to back up your current rom.

The issue was that you couldn't actually sleep the device... death sleep or something in the kernel and the nook color. Basically this means the device was always on and using about 2% of the battery per hour even while "off". That pretty much means it can't go on the wifes NC.
Where do you get Android marketplace apk? I just flashed this and now I don't have a market place. I'm coming from phiremod 5.2.

quick question from someone who's never messed with nightlys before my nook...why would I install this instead of nightly build 32? I'm guessing the RC4 would be just a really good nightly build that they feel is ready for release, yes?
Edit: I just noticed that the RC4 was just posted, so I think what I said is basically right.
Another edit (sorry): also, can someone tell me what clearing the cache does (or doesn't do if you decide not to do it) when you switch or update roms?

The cache consists entirely of files that can be thrown away as they get regenerated by apps as needed. When you upgrade your ROM it's recommended you clear the cache so that the system and its apps don't get confused by cached files that represent scenarios that are not relevant to the ROM you're running.

I would really like to know if this is fixed in the RC release too.
Just flashed it to my NC. I went back to Zeam launcher just becuase it's what I was using on Nookie Froyo and I had all the settings & shortcuts backed up already. I also added Button Savior for those times when the status bar buttons are hidden. I really like the "lens" lock screen as it's much more convenient to swipe down on a 7" screen than across.
So far I haven't run into anything that doesn't work. Titanium Backups of my user apps went in quite happily. My Angry Birds can rest easy, their hard work has not been in vain
The only hitch so far - my Titanium restore of Thumb Keyboard did not work as expected. Under input settings, the checkmark refused to go on. I re-installed from the Market, enabled it successfully, and then restored the data only from Titanium.

[wip][kexec] [aokp and cm10] jb 4.1.2

New Builds - December 30 - I don't know if anything changed, I just sync'd repos and compiled it. But it's newer, eh!
MAKE SURE YOU WIPE DATA/CACHE AND SYSTEM AND INSTALL THIS ROM TO A FRESH ROM SLOT. Don't complain about non-working or strangely behaving apps if you flash over an old install without trying this first.
Based on the work of the All-Powerful Hashcode (source), here are fresh builds of AOKP JB and CM10.
Still no working camera. However, includes the sensor fix from Jarveson (Thanks!). HW codecs re-activated (thanks Hashcode!)
Updated repos, minor tweaks to get it to build correctly (Solana github repo doesn't build successfully as-is). See the posts ~ pg 153 of Hashcode's official thread.
Use gapps 20121011 available at your nearest filehost.
Download:
/mediafire/solana
For our friends on the other side of the Great Firewall:
CM10 Dec 15
These are ALPHA test builds (as noted by Hash) and a constant work in progress. I recommend flashing into a secondary ROM slot until you feel comfortable.
Thanks to Hashcode, dhacker, jonpry, jarveson, Google, AOKP, CM and everyone else who made this possible.
Kernel Included? version?
Gapps included?
Thanks for your work on the D3
Oh yeah, FIRST
Always wanted to do that
Thanks for this! I will finally test it today (didn't have time).
Maybe you're interested in including the fix I use for making the D3 wake with keyboard keys also.
For me at least, it was one of the first things I missed on kexec ICS/JB.

CM build
I'll start a CM10 build tonight or tomorrow, depending on how I'm feeling. Been a busy weekend working and lots of late nights getting just AOKP to work cuz it's my primary.
In theory it shouldn't be too difficult, because AOKP is CM based. But I'm no professional, I just do this for the enjoyment.
Will keep you guys posted.

I've been talking to another user about this. Turns out that the stock messaging app is still affected by the MMS bug. I've always used a third party app so I didn't notice when I did testing. Sorry everyone.
But it works with a third party messaging app definitely. GoSMS is my present choice. Used to be Handcent but it's gone down the drain IMO the past year.
Yes mms no workie in stock. Go sms seems to work though.

Hmm MMS works on the 883 radio from T-Mobile. Maybe it's something in build.prop? Maybe it's APN settings? I think CDMA carriers still use APNs.
Already went down the road of apn. Everything was correct in mine. Went ahead and deleted and re entered, no change in built in sms/mms app. Wouldn't know what to check in build.prop.

I did the same and it seems to be working well. I've only had one phone call and the phone app did crash when the call ended. I *think* the called party hung up first. The sensor fix is very nice - I was somehow regularly getting into the settings menu with my ear and changing stuff before it
I think the only thing I miss at this point is the audio out via the car dock special usb cable. I've thought about trying to help figure that one out, but the last programming I did was in the late 80's in C, so the learning curve is gonna be kinda steep. I have installed the sdk on my Fedora machine. We'll see if I can get motivated to figure out how to actually do anything with it.

If you understand C well, you might actually not have too hard a time, especially if Android is C++. I have no idea though.
set up
if anyone would like to get their machine going for development, i made a blog post (my first serious one ever) about setting up Ubuntu 12.10 properly to compile Android from source.
https://soupdawg.wordpress.com/2012...-for-building-android-jellybean-all-variants/
all the other guides i've seen are up to 12.04, and setting up the correct JDK is unique on 12.10
good luck everyone!
NOTE: my process.phone always crashes after calls. it doesnt seem to impact anything, i still run it day to day just fine. i'll try to track it down and see whats up. i think it's because of the hack i had to do to get the ROM to compile correctly. frameworks/base in its natural state from the repo causes build errors.

Curiosity about the state of CM 10.2 Nightlies

For those of you who are running the latest CM 10.2 nightly, what is the current state of the builds? The last time I ran a nightly (which must be almost a month ago now), NFC functionality was not not working correctly, the messaging app would not rotate correctly after locking the screen, notification sounds were delayed causing the system to lag, and any application had the tendency to randomlly on rare occasions.
So, have you noticed any issues (even if only small)? Have the issues the listed been fixed?
P.S. Yes, I am aware of the beta-like state with nightlies, so please don't complain to me about 'breaking the CM rules'. This post is far from a complaint; it is more like a means of gathering information about the ROMs, to determine whether or not to run them.
Thank you, those any who may reply
