Guys,
I know you lot are a bunch of geniuses, and I really need your help.
I've searched these forums for the last 2 1/2 hours and come away with nothing more than a headache.
I have recently flashed my G1 with the latest release of Cyanogenmod 6.1.0.
Before this, I always!! got coarse network location from the phone, whenever I posted a Buzz or used Google maps, even the weather widget worked perfectly.
Now I've flashed, it's not working.
I've tried a "permanent" fix I was hoping would work here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=9576852&postcount=108
But it didn't. No change.
However, if I follow the instructions in post 1:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=845152
Force closing and clearing the user data, followed by a reboot, it works!
But it stops again after a reboot.
All I can figure is that something is blocking the network location stuff stored in Google Services Framework which is deleted when I clear, and rewritten on a reboot.. Is there an APK or .ZIP floating around which addresses this?
To add to this, I was getting this network issue on Biff's Froyo Rom.
I've tried flashing different radios (I usually use the one ending in I, but have tried the newer one ending in 02) with no change.
I want to use Froyo so very badly, but I rely heavily on this coarse network location detection, and without it the phone just doesn't respond fast enough for me on location requests. (Relying on GPS alone)
I'm unlocked, flashed with Danger SPL, running stock radio (ending in I).
I'm sure I'm not the only G1 user with this problem, it seems to be common, so I really hope I just didn't search for the correct keywords and someone will be here to point me to the answer!
If anyone needs more info, please let me know.
Hope someone can help!
Jason

To add to this, I noticed today I had location in the centre of town, but when I came home it wouldn't update. It kept telling me I was still in town.
Thanks.

Every time I use the Track Location feature, it fails. I've uninstalled and reinstalled and it still won't work. It takes me to San Francisco instead of Chicago(which is where I live). It used to work the week I got the wing (about 2 weeks ago). It's pretty much stock. I don't use any ROM's and have even performed a clear storage. Any help would be appreciated. I have done a search.
Still isn't working.
It tells me to check the GPS settings. I haven't changed them nor do I know how.
Have you tried with a GPS receiver? (If you have access to one)
I have found that the track location feature while sometimes is surprisingly accurate most often is only close enough for a general location. Good for a local search but not close enough to pinpoint my location with accuracy.
But discrepancy that is off by states I have no idea. IT gets your location by triangulating from the cell towers, maybe there is a glitch in that area that is unidentified. It isn't something you could ask your provider about (actually they might have an answer or be able to help but I wouldn't bet on it), even though they might be at fault. You might see if you can report it as a bug to the google mobile maps team and see if they will respond.

Try a different phone radio firmware. Mine used to fail when I used the newest Radio. It's either that or the information about your towers has been set up incorrectly on google's servers. Find someone in your area with a phone that you can install google maps on and try to see if the problem is still there. If it is, contact google about it.
That just happens sometimes with Google Maps.
I live in germany and sometimes Google Maps says I am somewhere in France or Spain (one time even somewhere in the atlantic or pacifik...)
Just wait some time and try to locate again (don't restart google maps).
If that doesn't help, walk around a bit and try again.
I apologize for posting here because the phone is not Vogue but when I had a Vogue I remember there were market issues that the Vogue gurus sorted out. You guys seem to have a better grasp of Froyo then the developers in the other phone groups. I have also asked for help on Android Central, Android community and in the Incredible forum but no one seems to be able to help.
The phone is a Verizon Incredible that I repaired so that it works on Sprint. With the official 2.1 release from Verizion, the phone worked well. No issues with data, market and email. Even today, I can flash the full 2.1 image and it will register fine. I upgraded to 2.2 and I can not register with google, create a gmail account or use the market, yet I have full internet access. It keeps bringing up the setup wizard and when I type in my information it just times out without making a connection. It does not matter if I have Wifi only, 3g only or both. When I have both wifi and 3g on it still times out it asks me to connet to a wifi a wifi network even though I am. If I do a Titanium restore of system settings and apps I get gmail email to work and sync but with the market I get a popup "An error has occurred. Please try again later." Except for the market, everything is working. If I dial *#*#checkin#*#* I get a checkin has failed error.
Here are my questions. Is there a way to manual setup the market and accounts by editing a text file? Are there some files I can copy over from 2.1 in order to fix the google registration? Could it be an issue with my 3G settings, everything matches what is on is on the donor phone? The only thing that is different is the Default profile password, on the donor phone it's funky characters and on the incredible its all hex numbers but that password was pulled from the donor phone's memory location in QXDA and hand entered into ##778# and triple checked. But since data is working I don't think that is the issue.
i would appreciate any input or if you can point me to a thread or a user that can help. Since this is not a Vogue issue you can PM and let this thread die or continue to post in here if you think this maybe of use to other people.
Thanks.
I have a weird problem with my AT&T galaxy tab. For the past couple of days, each time I launch the Market, my 3G connection is killed and I can no longer access the network, and of course I cannot access the market. As soon as I kill the market app, my 3G connection comes back.
I cleared the data and cache of the market app, did not solve the issue. When I uninstall the updates of the market app (reverting to the original ugly market app), everything works fine, but it then automatically updates itself and the problem comes back. I assume this is a problem with the market app itself and not my device (hopefully).
Has anybody else experienced this issue and found a fix?
I am running stock ROM with third party apps installed enables (done it with superoneclick: root, enable third party apps, unroot).
I have the amazon app store installed, so I can still buy new apps, but I would like to be able to get updates for the apps I have purchased from the market.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
What modem are you using? Does the problem happen when you are using wifi? I think the JMF modem that is available for overcome rom is weak and I get many dropped connections and slow data speeds.
I am using the stock ROM and stock modem, I have never flashed a ROM. It only happens with the Market App.
Same issue for me. I have a rooted stock rom.
I have the same issue. Also stock rom and rooted. When WIFI is on (and connected) the market works fine.
I have been beating my head against this since I bought one. I am rooted using....I think I used Super One Click......stock everything else with non-market apps enabled. I originally thought that Root had broken it; however, if I unrooted, reset to factory, I still had the issue.
After many hours at the ATT store and on the phone (and swapping the device once and SIM card twice) I had an epiphany. a Factory Reset does NOT wipe the Internal SD like I thought it did. It leaves /mnt/sdcard/ intact. So, just for kicks, I began looking at my folders here. I MAY have discovered something. Market started working after I restored this folder to it's factory content (deleted any folders having to do with Apps in general).
I can typically hold power, deactivate Data connection, wait a few seconds, re-enable, and I get 3g back (at least for browser and other apps, Market still fails).
I have PSX4Droid installed (PSX Emulator if you don't know). There is a folder here named /.psx4droid, so I renamed it to /psx4droid (If I remember correctly, doesn't the "." hide the folder......too long since Linux class). I then deactivated/reactivated my data, and the Market started working properly.
I am not sure if it has to do SPECIFICALLY with psx4droid or just the "Hidden" folder in general, but now my Market works. I have 2 more folders in this location (/.downloadTemp and /.FileExpert) that may/may not cause any problems. I will post my findings.
.....Okay, so I'm going to type what I write now....Market just failed. Now I'm renaming /.FileExpert....Let's see what happens......
Damn. Still fails. But I'm tellin' ya. There is something in this folder causing it.
Or maybe some app is causing it to break......I have Amazon App store installed, what about you guys?
I do have Amazon App installed.
Anybody with an AT&T Tab not having the issue?
Same issue here. I had the Amazon Appstore installed but uninstalled it probably a week afterwards. Rooted running stock, everytime I go into the market it crashes the 3g. I found a folder in sdcard/android/data that had a bunch of appstore files in it. I deleted that and still having the same issue. I have removed all 3rd party apps so I have no idea what is triggering this. Please help.
P.S. I can access the market on WiFi
This also happens to be sometimes, if you tap wifi on then off again your 3g should come back and work fine.
swyped from a galaxy far far away...
Unfortunately what you proposed did not work. The market is killing the network connection each and every time. The network connection only comes back when the market app is not active anymore.
Since everything works fine when the market upgrades are uninstalled, I really think it is a bug in the newer version of market. Hopefully, the next update will fix this.
Maybe when Gingerbread is out!
I'm thinking this has more to do with us having installed amazon appstore before it was supposed to be. Somebody is mad at us
Has anyone made any progress on this situation?
Sent from my SGH-I987 using XDA App
I really wish I would have made more progress. After all the trouble I had with the device with this issue, I was seriously monitoring the apps I installed and then testing the Market. I gave up after a while since I am on Wifi 90% of the time and hardly ever do I access the Market while driving. I still have a feeling that something in /mnt/sdcard is causing it. Like I had mentioned, I could wipe back to factory and the problem was still there. I seem to remember that it only started working proper after I had cleared this location of crap. I would think that a Market update would see a larger group of affected tabs than just a handful of us. This doesn't seem to be a widespread issue.
That being said......I have decided to move on to Gingerbread. Maybe that'll fix it
Hey guys, try this. Worked for me and my Data problems with Gingerbread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=13751694&postcount=6
Basically create a new APN inside Settings -> Wireless and Networks -> Mobile Networks -> Access Point Names. Only set the APN to "Broadband," save it (Menu button) and select the radio button for it. Instantly fixed my data issues.
Thank for the tip. Unfortunately, it did not work for me. I am running stock 2.2 and waiting for the official 2.3 update from AT&T.
Good Luck. I thought about waiting for the official.....but I also have a Captivate. We didn't get 2.2 until MONTHS after the rest of the world (I think it was like 5 or 6 months later). I didn't want to wait that long again.

Could you please report if the problem fixed with Gingerbread ?
At first I didn't have ANY cellular data until I created a new APN mentioned in the tagged thread (APN Broadband). Now I have no issues with Market. I wish I could trust AT&T to release Gingerbread in a timely fashion, but I know better. So instead, I flashed Overcome.
P.S. I really can't enough of the CRT lock animation......damn I'm such a geek....
Hey, happy new year, folks.
I'm having an annoying issue for quite some time. The GPS on my M7 keeps restarting, every time HSDPA send or receive data. If I select 2G only, GPS is steady as it should be. Connected on WiFi also does not affect GPS at all. But if I select 3G, GPS actually does its thing, but only while the network is idle, as soon as it is busy, GPS restarts. And goes this way forever. That's the best I can describe it, with only observation.
I think it may be software related, because it happened before and just fixed itself before came back again, my guess the culprit was some update on Play Store. It started after some HTC apps went to Play Store, but I just can't pinpoint where the issue is or if this is really the issue.
I'm using ARHD, with minimal tweaks, mostly Greenify, Amplify, PowerNap and some cosmetic changes, like BetterHeadsUp and download speed on status bar.
I would be really thankful if someone helps me understand this catlog I got from when the issue happened. I cleaned the log, opened GPS while on HSDPA and as soon as the issue occurred, I paused it and extracted the log. It certainly have entries before and after the issue, but it shouldn't be that much. But I unfortunately need help reading it, I can't get where the problem is, if it is there.
This is the pastebin for the log: http://pastebin.com/HdFyrLEW
Thanks!
Bump!
Also, can anyone suggest some tool to better identify the issue? It seems to be related to H+ network activity. When my phone is not sending or receiving data packages through H+, everything works, but the smallest data exchange resets the GPS, like an OFF/ON command. No other scenario trigger this, be it 2G, Wifi or airplane mode.
Thanks.
So here I am again, but this time with good news. I think I have found the culprit. Under APN Types, for the data APN I use, there's a lot of values there, like default, supl, hipri, mms. All of those, except from default, are deprecated. The supl is intended to help geographic device location gathering from the network and it may be the real reason of my problem described on OP. So, just remove everything from APN Types, except from default and you should be good to go again, this time with GPS.
I've been on official Resurrection Remix, when about a month ago I visited a place I never travel even nearby. I set navigation, got there. I went back by memory, so it was the last position of navigation.
Now everytime I don't have GPS fix, it shows I am on the exact spot I navigated to. When I go out, get GPS fix, it shows my real position and all navigation works (I tried yesterday, to see if it would at least stick to another location, but it didn't).
The problem survived clean flash of unofficial RR by Luis - https://forum.xda-developers.com/xi.../unofficial-resurrection-remix-5-8-5-t3706456 - with Titanium Backup restore (only user apps+data), which leads me to the conclusion it's either problem in some user app, or it's stuck on Google account. I tried to disable and delete whole Google Location history, no change. Changing account in maps, no change. I'm out of ideas except for complete wipe, but I don't have much time to experiment like that.
Could someone please point me to anything I could wipe (some user app that keeps the last location) or how to filter adb logcat to get some useful data? I tried googling, but I probably don't know what exactly to search for. Thanks in advance.
Update: I tried app Network Cell Info Lite, on LTE it shows Cell Location not found and shows no neighbors (cell towers I presume). When I disabled LTE (in *#*#4636#*#*) and left only GSM, I got more neighbors and after a while the right location. When I turn LTE on again, it jumps back to the wrong location almost immediately.
