Sorry in advance! Ok a few months ago I rooted my wifes phone and put CM6 on it. Suddenly I cant figure out what I did to root my wifes phone. I thought I used a one click root but now I cant find that. Anyway her phone got stolen at the hospital the other day and I am trying to root the new phone with the one click root methoed. Can anyone point me in the right direction? I have searching for awhile and I found a methoed but it doesnt seem to be working. The new phone was updated at the store I hope thats not the reasoning behind my rooting issues. I have a rom I have everything I need once I am rooted I just need help getting rooted lol sorry.
Yep, that's your problem. The store updated to the .7 ruu. There are one click options that will root it, though im not sure which ones. Androot, maybe? Check the dev board.

When I look online, I only see guides for Hero's with earlier firmwares.
Nope... the official "ruu" changed it to where root wont work. There are a few people pretty perturbed by this on the forums.

yeah if you got a phone with the 1.5 don;t use the ruu update or your screwed. If you got a phone with the 2.1 update your screwed till someone figures it out. I wish the three guys that rooted the evo had sprint heroes (not to be confused with the tv show)

hey all. so i recently sold my old sprint hero that was rooted to cm6 and the new owner says that sprint hasn't been able to activate it to their account? is this normal? when i sold it, i did a reset to clear my data but i left it rooted (at their request). can someone tell me the easiest way to tell them how to unroot the phone? from speaking to them, i get the impression that they don't know much about this type of thing.

You guys should meet back up and you should flash a sense rom for them.
Only way for them to activate.
that's what i was afraid of. i sold the phone on ebay so it isn't someone local that i can meet with. so would you say that the easiest route would be for me to create a micro sd for them to boot from (someone else rooted my phone for me, but i rooted my nook color this way)? do you know offhand where i could find instructions to do this? i searched the android development forum but didn't see anything that dealt with going back to stock.

You're going to have to walk them through on how to get to recovery to flash, but just download liquidsense 2.1

I found this guide and found it very helpful it has a ton of stuff.. for your issue see Factory Reset not too far down.
Hero Root Guide
Just use the ruu in zip format is does it all for you in one file. Just send him the zip, tell him to put it on his sd, power the phone off, plug in the charger, hold down volume and power and 15 min later wham pure stock. No root no recovery. Just like out of the box
Yea it's me again. The one with the -Modified-Hero

Don't Quote me but, I'm Thinking the new owner should be able to Activate it by phone! At least I was able to with Mine! If not try just installing a 2.1 sense Rom and Delete the Superuser App, From my Experiences Chances are they Won't even Check for Root!!
Good Luck!

Wither way they need to reprogram the phone for his phone number, and the only way to do that is use the hash codes which only work on sense roms. Otherwise, if you know your way around qpst, you can do it from stock.

Good evening/morning. First I'd like to thank AOSP and everyone else that has contributed to the 2.3.2 Gingerbread ROM. It runs great, haven't had any problems running at 768mhz and I just love it. Thanks for all your hard work!
I do have a question though...is it possible to run Sprint's NASCAR app on this ROM? I don't remember what ROM I used long ago (I think it was a 2.1 Fresh, but not sure), but I remember having to install a sprint core APK along with any of the Sprint Apps I wanted (though I only really wanted the TV and NASCAR).
I've done some searching and a LOT of reading of posts, but haven't seen anything that applies to me.
Can anyone help? If it's possible, where can I get the APK(s)? If it's not, any idea why not? If it's not, can it run on CM6 or would I have to go all the way back to 2.1 (not really worth it to go back that far).
Thanks guys and keep up the great work!

Even though you are a Harvick fan, I'll help you out.
I used root explorer to put the Sprint_NASCAR.apk into /system/app. Then I changed the permissions to RW-R--R--. I then rebooted the phone.
I tested on aospCMod-03012011 and the first time I ran it, it opened and then closed. I then went back into it and everything loaded fine.
someonewhere posted this in the themes: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=970077&highlight=NASCAR
Worked great! Thanks! To anyone else looking for this app...you don't need to go to ABD....just transfer it to your phone and install it from your file manager. It took about a minute on mine, but it works perfectly...plus it still had my settings from when I used to have the app a long time ago (favorite driver, etc)...must be linked to my sprint account or my google account.

More than likely, there is a nascar folder on your sd card with your saved info in it.

Couldn't be....I recently replaced my card with a 16GB class 10 card. Haven't used the nascar app since November (when the season ended). Just out of curiosity, does anyone know if the NASCAR settings info is linked to you google account?

I think more likely it is probably linked to your Sprint account as it is a Sprint app. It had kept my settings from October when I first rooted and I had formatted my SD card.

Hey gang, my wife's Hero is running Cyanogenmod 7. Yesterday we ported her number to Google Voice. I called Sprint to have them re-activate the phone under a new line. That went through, but my wife can't call. She gets a recording saying she could either dial 911 or operator (or something like that). Sprint tech says they can't activate it if it's rooted (she told them).
Anyway, the phone worked great until the port. Is there something I can do so it has service again? Boot into recovery and clear all data?
Thanks.
Flash a Sense rom, then call Sprint to activate. Then just nand back to cm. It will work. The missus hero was rooted when I got it for her and that's how I did it.
Also, this shouldn't be posted in the dev section. Q&A or general is where it should be.

Don't know. I ran Sense all of an hour before I got home and rooted, then disposed of it. What does that command do?

It is used to reprogram the phone so that it can be used on a different account. WIthout it, you can only use the phone on your account - so if you wanted to sell it to someone, you would to need to reprogram it for the next user's account. That is where ##3282# comes into play.

I'd go with CM7 as a first rom. it works well, and is pretty fast.

have to agree with dragoon there, just starting out go with CM 7.0.3 or 7.1.0. easy to flash ,theme and tweek. good for a starter.
Well Ive had a rooted phone before. This is actually a down grade from what I had which was the MyTouch 4G. I used CM7 on that and loved it so I might have to give it a shot.
