I HATE the thanks button being right beside the quote button.
Anyways, the cognition ROM that you are running is fairly old. The newest version is upto 2.3 beta 7. Just flash another ROM and you'll be fine.
Since you are new to using captivate, I recommend using this.

After going back to JF6 stock 2.1, you have two options. Root using one-click method, download ROM manager and flash clockwork recovery
OR
get into recovery with the three button combo and "reinstall packages" using update.zip I provide you. (CWM)
Once you have CWM, just flash one of the ROMs that you would like to use. Personally, I recommend Cognition or Axura at first. You should get your market back.
thanks bro!!!! I got everything up and running again. the update.zip file is not the correct file. i had to download a different one. other than that, the latest version of cognition is awesome!!!

Just purchased a captivate with custom rom
Firmware version: 2.2
Baseband version: I897UCJI6
Kernel version: 2.6.32.9 jetaek.lee sep-11 #1
Build number: FROYO.UCJI6
Is this version solid? Seller say's he has had no problems with current set up.
he can load cognition 3.04, however I will have to wait several days.
This is my first venture with this type of phone that will be used for work continuously, i just need it to work smoothly, if current rom is sufficient no worries then.
Thanks for input.
That is the original Froyo leak and buggy as hell. You are better to get one of the more recent custom roms. Cognition is the closest Froyo for our Captivates as it's based on the Rogers release. Just flashed this, Cognition 3.04, today and I'm loving it!
Use it and see if your like it.

What firmware do you have?
If gingerbread you can flash the voodoo kernal
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=975349
This will give you clockwork and will give you an ext4 lagfix
Hopefully Done It Now
I've done it (finally i think),
my kernel version says:
2.6.32.9
[email protected] #Dark_Core_1.0
Build number is: Darky's v9.5.xwjs8
But as i switch the phone on it come up with Darky's v9.4 ?????
Hopefully i will get used to this, if you can could you please let me know if all the info above is right and whats the best rom for 2.2.1?????
Cheers Madant2011.
looks like you installed Darkys rom instead of what you wanted hehe....
rom
when i had rom manager i just downloaded what ever darky's rom that was on there.lol.
Just woundering what is the recomended rom for sgs 2.2.1 ?????
Cheers madant2011
The boot animation for darkys 9.5 does display 9.4 so don't worry about that. The darkys Rom is very good but you could upgrade your kernel to dark core 1.4 or use speedmod k13e kernel
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
kernel
Just wondering how do i update the kernel to 1.4, i already have voodoo speed mod (I Think).
download it from the darky rom site and if you get the cwm version, just flash it with your recovery
also visit http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=822756 for information on speedmod kernel, that is what i used when on 2.2.1, very fast and good batt life
Thanks
Thanks for all your help. just reading the link and it says it wont work because i used the one click root (I think).
Cheers madant2011
Can someone please link me to where i can DL the CWM3.0

i read thur XDA but im still a little foggy on how to install but i still can not find a link for CWM3.0
i am trying to install Symply GS II
Thanks

on Fasty2.2
Simply is based on JVQ 2.3.4 so you would need the Gingerbread bootloaders.
Look at [ROM]I897UCKF1 Odin-1-Click Gingerbread 2.3.3 w/ Optional Fugu Root to ge "stock" Gb on your phone first.
At first I tried Fasty II but the GPS was worse than what I was used to (KB2 stock ROM). I'm currently using the Fusion V ROM GB 2.3.4 but the GPS on it stinks as well.
Anyways, I've heard good things about the GPS on Fasty v2.5 KB1 ROM and since it is similar to KB2 I thought I would give it a try.
So, my question is: Can I flash this ROM while on GB bootloaders?
I seem to remember reading somewhere that the GB bootloader was backwards compatible. But I want to verify before flashing Fasty v2.5.
Thanks!
Shawn

Well I just tried to flash the ROM, but it said that it wasn't supported. I guess I need to flash back with the one click stock KB1. I'll try that next.
Thanks!
That's because the froyo ROM is written with ammend scripting.for cwm 2.5 and below and your most likely running 3.0+ which uses edify scripting.
Flash a froyo kernel with Odin/heimdall or sgs kernel flasher and then flash the ROM.

Thanks for the info, but I already flashed back to 2.2 1-click. Now I guess I should be able to flash a KB2 ROM. Assuming I figure out how to install CM that works with the stock 2.2. I'm back to the 3e version.
Shawn
Just do now what studacris said before... that is, just Odin/Heimdall/SGS kernel Flasher a Froyo kernel with CWM already baked in and then u can flash the Froyo Rom of ur choice.

Look for Speedmod-Kernel-K12u-t4-500kz .. flash it on your 2.2 with Odin and you'll get CWM for 2.2 that will let you flash 2.5. I always use this method when flashing new roms. Works great for me. I used 2.5.. it worked great on GPS.. Mosaic VII GPS also works great for me too.
Hi, I am having problems upgrading my phone from Darky's v9.2 Extreme Edition to DarkyRom v10.2 Resurrection.
After alot of forum reading/trial and error/semi-bricking I successfully installed v9.2 on my phone using heimdall.
Phone specs:
Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant (Canadian Bell)
GT-I9000M
Firmware version: 2.2.1
Baseband version: I9000XXJPY
Kernel Version: 2.6.32.9
Build: Darky's v9.2 Extreme Edition
I followed this guide to get version 9.2 installed using heimdall(darky-resurrection-edition-guide.1578 -sorry couldn't post url), I couldn't get any version to work using odin.
And now I've been using this guide to upgrade to 10.2, attempting installs with odin and heimdall, with no luck (darkyrom-v10-4-2-xwjw1.6577-sorry couldn't post url), doing the "long guide" outlined in the post.
After I try this guide my phone shows the DarkyRom logo and then infinitely reboots.
Does anyone have any suggestions on what I should try????? I've currently reflashed it back to v9.2.
I don't completely understand firmware versions, kernel versions, rom versions. I think I am running Froyo version, if thats whats 2.2.1 means. I have mainly been fooling around with this because the kies update semi-bricked my phone. Anyways, thanks for the help/suggestions
I also read in another thread on here to use the app DarkyOTA, in the app store it says that my device is not compatible with this app, so not sure if that is the proper route.
Flash a stock GB rom with Odin.. then a cf root kernel.. then you can install any custom rom you want from clockwork mod recovery.. I have never used hemidal so I can't help you with that...
