All the market apps like WIFI Static and IP manager do not work after the froyo 2.2 upgrade. Does anyone know how to get this functionality back?
Basically from home I need / want a static IP
All other locations dynamic.

Try static DHCP settings on your router. Assign your devices IPs based on MAC address.
bouncing now 2.2 has been out awhile.
Any PHONE solutions to this problem yet? or updated software available.
Well use static home and dynamic elsewhere.
You can go to wifi settings and use the advanced settings.
There you use your static ip.
And when you go but just untick it and you got dynamic settings.

Has anyone found an easy work around for having different ip settings per wireless network? By default you can either have static or dhcp for all connections, you cant set this per ssid.
I found this but looks like it has just been sitting there since 2008
http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=1215
I was thinking about starting to look at the system files to see if there was a way to edit the connections via a config file like a typical linux workstation, but not sure if the ssid and other wireless profile info is stored within android or in the system files...
basically I just want to set my own ip and dns server addresses when when I am connected to a particular ssid.
as a side note, xda search is terrible....it makes you wait 30 seconds between searches...
hmm, is it odd to have the below entries in the resolv.conf? or are the 8s used for something within android?
nameserver 8.8.8.8
nameserver 8.8.4.4
Is that Static Wifi app working for you?
I was looking for a similar solution but since I only had 1 problematic location just toggling the static IP setting on and off is taking care of my problem.
The static wifi app looks like you can do multiple locations and just select from a list.
hmm, wifi static looks promising, will try that out, from what i had read people thought it didnt set the settings based off of the access point, but it clearly has those settings...

Those are Google's OpenDNS servers. They're main nameservers for the internet.
haha yeah i just realized that like 15 minutes ago lol
On Symbian I could add all separate WiFi hotspots, routers, etc, to a big list of "Connection Points", and configure them separately. However, looks like there is no option for this on Android. Did I miss something or I really can't set up different proxy/static IP for different hotspots? I would need this feature really bad, as my school router uses a set of settings with the proxy, the home connection needs static IP (what of course does not works with the school system) and for open networks I need clean settings.
So, is there any apps or setting options to have separate set-ups for separate hotspots?
No idea, anyone?

wht is that how to use it????
well..
it is in the Wireless settings section. i guess you should use L2 IPSec.
briefly: have to set up a VPN server/connection point at home or wherever, and you'll connect to that from anywhere given that there's an open outbound port to the internet where you are currently. than a connection will be built up creating a "tunnel" through which your packets will be transferred to the VPN host where itt could be routed and NAT-ed to the internet unrestricted.
adding IPSec or other methods of encryptions will make your connection secure.
i've never tried it on my phone but since its based on linux it must be the same way as at desktop system.
you should check documents and howtos on the internet and check for apps at Market if the androids builtin is not satisfying!

i dont know how to set all these things
Use Froyo by Laszlo it supports proxy over wifi
Am I missing a simple thing?
I have a stock 4X HD running on original 4.1.2 non-rooted. As per the instructions I see in the internet, I can input custom DNS settings and select a static IP using the "modify network" option if you long press the current wifi connection you have. However, once I select "Advanced options" all fields for custom DNS and static IP is grayed out. I can't even save.
I tried this approach on another non-rooted android tablet and seems working. Any help please?
Thanks!
Hi,
how can I permanently disable MAC adress randomisation?
I can set this for each connection separately but I want to disable this feature completely.
Thx

From this site, it would appear you cannot in Android 10: https://source.android.com/devices/tech/connect/wifi-mac-randomization
I'm curious though, what use case do you have where you want to do this?

I don't like that it's the default setting. For some reason, if I change WiFi networks (away from the one that autoconnected), I have to re-enter the password and have to remember to change it back to "Use device MAC".

Is MAC randomisation causing a problem for you? Maybe someone can help if they understand the issue.
I have several WiFi networks to deal with at work and access control is based on MAC address.
Thats no security thing, only offline networks for testing purpose. SSID changes often and I always forget to change the setting...
@brandon5491 had the same issue with WPA3 but seems to be fixed with March Update (or newer AP firmware)

Well iOS and Android do MAC randomisation so it will be more than just you struggling with this issue, maybe raise the problem with your work? Maybe there is a tasker addon that can turn the option off based on some rule you create.
As for stopping you, I'm not sure how? If you join a network the device will use its fixed hardware MAC address which is approved. The MAC filtering should not be enforced unless you are connected to the network.

For me, it makes it nearly impossible to onboard new smart devices. Lifx, Kasa, Samsung, etc all need static MAC when adding them. You have to stop the install, go change the setting on the wifi for each device, then start the install all over again.
