Hi there
It's my first thread in the Vibrant forum, and it's to announce I now build kernels also for Vibrant.
The kind of kernel published here are only stock kernels, which means the exact same code build by Samsung for Vibrant phones.
Of course, there's a difference: Voodoo lagfix 5 stable has been injected in them, with its extensions and also ClockWorkMod recovery as default recovery.
Voodoo lagfix converts /system, /cache, /dbdata and /data to Ext4 with optimized parameters for speed but also guaranteeing data integrity.
Also, it configures the write behavior of Linux to prevent lag from happening, plus apply some memory management providing a better balance than stock settings.
Also supported: custom boot animation, init.d scripts and an improved adb shell (new!)
This kernel also installs the su binary for your convenience. Only activated once you download Superuser App from market. If you don't want to "root" your phone, skip this part.
Big thanks for the from ttabbal and the support of teamwhiskey for the Vibrant support.
How do choose the version?
The best version is the closest to the one of the ROM / system you run.
If you use a custom ROM instead of an official Samsung one, ask your ROM dealer which one is closer
update.zip you can flash with ClockWorkMod recovery (not 2e or 3e)

PS: JL1 gives troubles about the haptic feedback
Notable update for the Vibrant: Model detection is not affected anymore by dirty MBR modified by some external app.

Don't hesitate to send me other kernels version you want to see transformed as stock+Voodoo.
− You can even do this with attachments −
I take only stock ones, from Samsung, unmodified, Thanks
Going to be a test dummy and try this on Nero Beta 3 D:

Hey SuperCurio! Thank you for this! Can you inject voodoo into the stock JK2 kernel please? It would be appreciated. I zipped up the zImage for you.
do we still need to disable voodoo before flashing anything else via CWM?

CWM is now fully supported
- ROM Manager 100% compatibility
- CWM is the default recovery for the kernels presented here
- RFS or Ext4 = same result

Hi, this kernel is too big to be a stock kernel
Stock kernels are about 4.7MB
PS it seems I already saw this kernel before, with a complete libc as .so files in /

Oh snap I pulled it from TW's download page.
Edit: Oh yea... the modified init.rc... I fail...
Edit 2: Strange, I just pulled the stock JK2 kernel from the original .tar that got leaked and it was 7.5mb in size.
I applied Voodoo to Nero beta 3, booted up and working as it should. Thanks

Haptic feedback/Vibrate isn't working on stock JL1 so that might make sense. Need a JK2 or JK6 kernel.

Correct. Just to be clear, as there seems to be some confusion. The stock JL1 build has working haptic feedback and vibration. Many reports that "vibration" wasn't working were in reference to the Android keyboard (2.3 based) included in TW's Nero builds.

Bluetooth issues
eugene373, I apologize for bringing this up again, but I have JAC's kernel working on stock JI6 utilizing the libs and binarys you posted here. I am however, having the same issues with bluetooth not starting properly. Is there any way I could get you to explain what the fix involves? Again I apologize for the inconvenience and thanks again for all of your hard work.
Nevermind, I have bluetooth working, and it was a very simple fix... turns out it was the related to btld, replaced the file with Frankin-Final and all is well.
Yes, that why I had updated my post when I released update 4 of ft Rom.

Anyone feeling generous? Prehaps we could repackage this into a flashable CWM zip. I wouldn't mind a stock JI6 with JAC's kernel (or the new voodoo one when it finally drops).
It would make the whole "hey look a new leak, lets flash it" process a bit more friendly.

I have packaged this up for all who are interested... it can be found here, rather here. If you do not have ClockWork installed, just rename to update.zip and install through Samsung recovery as usual. I couldn't get the update.zip method to work, although I only experimented once.
And here, rather here is JAC's kernel (Vibrant OC/UV V1.1 CWM Recovery) along with the Old kernel back-ported files.
And here is JAC's kernel (Voodoo OC/UV Beta4 CWM Recovery V1.1). *I have not tested this kernel due to having the larger NAND.

It would be awesome to get Eugene's latest kernel (#106) working on Axura. Eugene stated that it should work on other roms as long as you include the zImage (duh) and the /system/init.rc. Tried doing it with a flashable zip as well as flashing just the kernel and then using adb to push the init.rc but still couldn't get it to boot. Maybe a much more talented individual could get this set up working.
Is it possible to flash axura 2.03 and flash the kernel by using CW? I believe kernels can be induvidually flashed right without odin correct? Thanks.

How's the battery life on this?
802 gave good battery life with 2.0.3 for me
Normal: http://www.tabbal.net/files/Dragon-Kernel-Voodoo-v2.6.zip
OC: http://www.tabbal.net/files/Dragon-Kernel-Voodoo-OC-v2.6.zip
I rebased on the latest source from Samsung, JPX. Yes, it's still i9k based. Hopefully it helps a little with battery and such, won't know till it's been out for a while. The speedmod patch has also been updated, but the OC patch is the same. I also included my backport of the auto-group scheduler patch. So far, both of them are working well for me.
Both kernels are voodoo enabled and will enable voodoo if you don't already have it. If you don't want that, you need to install the voodoo-disable zip before flashing, or just put the disable-lagfix file in place before flashing. If you already have voodoo enabled on your phone, you do NOT need to disable it before flashing these kernels, as long as your current kernel has voodoo recovery (red Clockwork recovery), you are good to go.
Tested on Nero V4, but should work on other Froyo based ROMs as well.
If you are going to try the OC version, please download both of them and have the normal version ready, just in case. You can also use adb push from Clockwork if you can get it booted to recovery. Clockwork also has USB storage you can enable to be able to mount your phone's memory cards from a computer, so that you can put the non-OC version on there if you get stuck.

I will probably get flamed... but what is the difference in the speedmod patch and the dragon kernal. I was a bit confused in understanding what the speedmod patch is and does. Thanks!
any way to make the new 5.1 voodoo sound kernels compatiable with the vibrant JL5 latest source from Samsung, JPx its not for vibrant kernel
Just to clarify, for full Voodoo Sound experience, will we also need to install the Voodoo Sound app from the Market?

yeah.
@ttabbal: do you think you can make a stock JL5 with voodoo sound?

That's right. It allows you to control the parameter, which is so far for Vibrant only the headphone amplifier level.
Is this better than DOW kernel by tw?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Installed the non-oc version on my vibrant, and downloaded the market "voodoo" app.
Looking forward to hopefully being able to one day control the microphone AGC on the vibrant!

Considering the DoW kernel made my screen shake / flicker and this OC one doesn't, I'd say yes. Voodoo sound is also a nice plus.

Does this kernel remove the 56 fps cap like Dow?

How do I know if it installed correctly? I flashed the non oc

No frosty flakes here.
DoW14-T959 is based on Samsung KA6 T959 Sources
Sleep fix not in, treat it like a stock kernel for now until notified (Do not use profiles that exclude 800mhz)
Only flash this kernel from a "red recovery", do not flash it coming from any ULF kernel, flash a stock+voodoo kernel in-between, then flash this kernel. Not sure what these other kernels do, but I'm tired of hearing my kernel breaks anything due to THEIR incompatabilities.
Included:
Voodoo Sound v4 (Thanks supercurio)
Voodoo Lagfix (Thanks supercurio)
Voodoo Color (Thanks supercurio)
BLN included (Thanks neldar)
Based on T959 froyo source.
Safeboot to 1GHz for those phones that don't like OC (But 1.4 can be used with setcpu)
TUN (Tunneling/VPN support)
CIFS (Samba support)
JFS (Advanced users only, no automated use of this FS)
DoW14-T959 359MB RAM version -> No HD Video
DoW14-T959-HD v1.4 344MB RAM version -> HD Cam working | md5sum: 743ee5f1023a571260d32bd4c0fcc7f3
Best steps:
Get off your ULF kernel first, flash Stock + Voodoo in-between
You inform yourself what "OC" is and what to expect
Install Neldar's "SGS Kernel Flasher" before flashing ANY kernel.
Backup your existing kernel with his tool.
Flash Kernel through RED VOODOO recovery
Reversal:
Flash the backup you made with SGS Kernel Flasher
http://goo.gl/Cd2NV Follow this if you got bit by the dead horse and want your internal storage back.
Don't forget to tip Neldar, coolbho3k and supercurio if you like any of their work.
nice work

I admit, as BT user, I never revisited the cable related issues, as battery life kept people from using it.
I guess I now have an incentive to fix this up too.

The reason for that is because I plug my phone to the AUX port in the car (as I'm sure many people here do that as well) and when there's a call no sound can come out, or in(the other end can't hear anything).
Thanks for looking into it.
Looking forward to trying this. If the battery's good, this may be daily driver material

Dow kernel is awesome, the only reason i'm using stock+voodoo kernel is the mic issue, hope morfic would fix it
So does this kernel OC also? I am getting 1360 on quad, and 12.5 on linpack.
Nice update. Just flashed and pulled 2056 quadrant.

Latest Linpack: 18.9
Good stuff morfic, like I always say, your a genious man. Thanks for all the help and support also.
I never mention it to ya just because it is what it is i remember you saying you didnt want to bother finding the code for headset issue. I will say though it would be great to finally see that implemented man! i drive a truck for a living so sometimes i forget my bt and end up having to use heeadset. I would love to not have to bounce from kernel to kernel in these circumstances. Although its never been pursuasive enough to make me use them as a daily driver, other i9k kernels from ttbbal and eugene have had this fixed in their kernals for a while. maybe from diff source? Anyways great job again, ttys!

I am getting basically the same numbers. And, shouldn't the Kernel version in settings>about phone make reference to DoW? I know it's flashed because of the skinny Android at boot. Red recovery and Reboot Button app both show enabled. There's got to be something amiss, my recall of Linpack on Som's previous version was at least in the 17's. Anthing else anywhere to look at to verify that it's at 1.4? Not gonna use Set CPU, unless anyone else has and it doesn't mess things up? TIA...
I would like to flash this over Bionix V 1.21 just have a couple of questions: Does this kernel contain voodoo lagfix as well as sound? Can I flash it right over the kernel included in Bionix V 1.21.? If not would I have to disable voodoo before flashing? any and all replies are appredciated.

You won't believe the battery goodness until you try it. Finally, an OC'd Vibrant kernel with Voodoo sound and daily driver battery life.
Thanks Morfic for all you do for us!!

+1 I use my wired stereo headset for phone calls all the time. ( to me phone calls through a wired stereo headset sound so much clearer )
I really like this kernel and definitely would use it if that was fixed.
Right now I use Ttabbals kernel becuz my headset works with it.
thanks for your work
