Here's the deal: I had my phone upgraded to I9000WXJP6 a while ago, now I'm trying to upgrade again and I'm kinda lost. I'm trying to get support for arabic and I'm wondering if XWJPB will do. If not is it possible to go for the I9000JPJPG without breaking my phone?

I guess it's safe assuming you know how to use odin properly. I've done this yesterday. Coming from Darky's fast ROM, i flashed my i9000 back to XXJPU stock then flashed again to I900JPJPG all using odin. And i'm thinking to flash again tonight back to 2.1 as my GPS is still flaky on JPJPG when i get home as i have PPC mac here in the office.
NOTE: Bear in mind that using odin will DELETE everything in your phone i think except the files in your external SD (assuming you have one inside your phone).

Hi guys,
I have used Odin once before when I broke my phone, i have version I9000XXJPK
Can someone please tell me the version i need to download so that i have official 2.2 for UK spec?
There are so many numbers etc im getting lost off.
I have been on samfirmware and I just cant decide which version i need to be official.
My phone currently cant send SMS and ive read thats because of something wrong with the custom FW i have on. (it was like this when i bought it from the shop second hand)
Thanks

Hey there. It can be a bit confusing, but follow the notes on samfirmware and you should be fine. I upgraded from T-Mobile UK's stock firmware (I forget which version) to JPA, via JM4.
I am using JPA now (again, not sure which provider this is, but it seems to be fairly stock), with no problems.
Make sure you check the notes for each ROM (ie, some have an upgrade path, and some do not). You may need to use a different PIT file and partition accordingly.
Hope this helps.
Thanks mate,
All the release dates are old on Samfirmware, the official froyo for the uk wasnt released until November. the latest firmware on samfirmware is October....
Im really confused how i get from my FW to an official newest froyo. Kies wont work for me at all, tried 3 computers now.
Seriously, screw Kies. It wouldn't upgrade my unit (obviously as there was no provider firmware available), so I patched it with the util posted here and it flashed to about 50% then failed, thus bricking my phone in the process.
If you're not bothered about your provider bloaty junk that ships with the phone, you may as well just bite the bullet and flash JPA or JP0 via Odin. I doubt these are UK specific ROMs (as you mention, Froyo was slated for Nov here in the UK) as samfirmware's are all dated Oct 10, but my phone seems just fine- been using it for around 2 weeks now with no hitches.
Best of luck!
How about installing Doc Froyo custom rom?
It is using froyo 2.2

Hi ,
My girlfriend has had her galaxy s for about 4 months i recently flashed darkys rom onto it, with no problems (excellent rom btw), but now the phone has started doing menu and back on its own randomly making it impossible to do anything on it for longer than a few minutes , its like the soft keys are being pressed (but they arent of course).
I've had a google and came to the conclusion its a hardware fault and not software (ive tried factory reset / re-flashing roms/ kernels) but now i have the problem i cant send the phone back to tmobile with a custom firmware so is there anywhere i can download tmobile firmware and stock kernel to make it like when she got it ?
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.
In the General chat, there is a link to all the stock roms. Select the one you want and install that one. I am on t mobile in the uk and my code is TMU so that will most likely be fine for you.
By the way - Its exactly what I did last month and they fixed it fine for me with no questions...

hi thanks for the quick response , ive already installed a stock firmware but when the phone boots up it doesnt do the tmobile logo now, plus the firmware i have installed, i'm not sure if thats ever been available on tmobile , which firmware did you send your phone back to them with if you dont mind me asking ?
Hi,
I used the JP1 stock rom here. I remember now that once I installed the stock one I used the Kies registry hack to put the latest t-mobile firmware on there. Then it was branded T-Mobile again. The only problem is that now kies has been updated the Registry hack may not work.
If I were to send you a nandroid backup of my original T-Mobile rom (I did that when I got a new one!) Would that help?
CtC
I would blame the rom before the hardware and want a wipe to a very clean phone and install a stock rom .
You cannot download TMobile firmware you need somebody to give it to you unless you backed up your original firmware .
The only way to get TMobiles firmware would be to downgrade your phone to stock Eclair then use Kies to update as normal to Froyo branded TMobile or if that failed use the registry patch .
Fix on a non stock rom is going to depend on the guy that picks the phone up and the problem .

"If I were to send you a nandroid backup of my original T-Mobile rom (I did that when I got a new one!) Would that help? "
It would be brilliant if you could do that, how can you send it though ?
@ jjegan i have completely wiped the phone, changed the firmware to 2.1update1 same problem still exists with the soft keys randomly pressing themselves thanks anyway .
can any one give me some advice about making this phone look as stock uk tmobile as possible before i send it back ?
so heres what i did, i got a stock captivate, used odin to flash rom to galaxy i 9000 and its really buggy. i wish to flash back to stock rom and update to froyo then unlock it so i can use it on t-mobile. when i say really buggy i mean i cant get anything but G network maybe E if im in the middle of portland or salem, but always have full receptoin. now can anyone help me fix this so i can use it with t-mobile? if not then i would like to flash it to another rom but, it wont go into download mode since i dont have a home button to use. should i get a jig and do all that other stuff ive got to do or is there another way? can anyone point me into the right directoin. either post they know of or from experience. i would greatly appreciate it ive spent a few days searching and havent found much info thats helped.
Oh wow... First of all, flashing a i9000 ROM is really NOT GOOD. i9000 ROMs are for the i9000 phones, not the i897 (Captivate). As far as unlocking goes, I hope you haven't screwed up your IMEI (and such) data on your phone somehow while flashing different ROMs onto your phone. Unlocking can be done on both 2.1 and 2.2, but you will need the unlocking codes from AT&T themselves (easiest way).
For the download mode, if you can't get into the download mode via ADB... I would definitely try a USB Jig. Try the alternate key combos to try and get into download mode as well.
Owch. This is what happens when you don't read before you do things.
Hopefully you can get yourself into Download Mode so you can flash via Odin back to the stock ROM.
you do realize that by unlocking it and putting it on TMobile you will not get ANY 3g?

well i was fallowing advice from an idiot and a few other idiots who backed the info and was happy with what it had done with their phone. little did i know till a little bit ago is that it was for germany not usa. ok so i need to do some research on adb. now since i want to use this phone for t-mobile and do get into download mode should i flash to captivate stock then update to froyo then unlock or just flash to vibrant? im not going to be using this phone for calls or internet browsing unless on wifi and using skype. its only going to be used for texting and games and video and pics and all the other wonderful options this phone has. t-mobile has a pre paid texting only plan thats only $15 a month. and everywhere i go has free wifi, if not ive got my own way of getting wifi if ive got my laptop for ad-hoc with braodband card.
do i need to change anything with the phone if i just plan on using t-mobile???? cause it is considered a global phone or whatever and not locked cause it shows i have t-mobile or att or sprint network to choose from as before the flash it only showed att. or should i just fix this one and flash it all back to stock and sell it to buy a new used phone lol
thank you for your help and advice/ its greatly appreciated
just flash back to stock 2.1...unlock it and u can flash any awesome rom.most save your imei and nvdata...i was on darky 8,1 and used t mobile, even used all carriers in india
to get to dl mode use adb or jig....never flash i9000 roms directly, if u want, u can flash i9000 based custom roms we have in dev section..
Hi all,
I'm fairly new to the flashing world and need some guidance.
Current rom:
MODEL NUMBER GT-I9000
FIRMWARE VERSION 2.2.1
BASEBAND VERSION I9000XXJPY
KERNEL 2.6.32.9 root (at) SEP - 51 #1
BUILD NUMBER FROYO .XXJPY
Old Rom:
It was from vodafone, but i can't seem to find exactly what rom it is.
I had a problem with my stock SGS rom and was forced to flash it, but i now have a different rom installed on my SGS, the booting animation (for example) isn't from vodafone anymore.
And KIES doesn't recognize my current rom (for update), so i wanted to know how could i leave everything exactly like it was before. So that i could update to gingerbread the official way and still have a fall back plan.
One last thing, i used odin (v 1.3) to flash it, can i "safely" reverse from 2.2.1 to 2.2 (original from vodafone)? And how?
Thanks again for the help.
I'm very sorry for the long text.
Just use the wonderful & usefull searchbox and find this:
Rom list
Thank you for the reply, i've been on that thread, but still i don't know which is my rom and if the csc will be return to stock.
Thank you again

Stock is not the rom that came with the phone its stock Samsung rom .
You need to have saved your original rom or find somebody that did .
Your Vodaphone upgrade path through Kies will fail as you do not have a Vodaphone rom .
2.2 to 2.1 via Odin with pit 512 and repartition checked .Just use 2.1 rom from samfirmware .
May help .

Thanks for the fast reply,
Are there any special precautions or guides to revert from 2.2.1 to 2.2?
With the csc. (i've flashed before but i only had one tar file, nothing else).

Also dont be to scared of vodafone. If you have a stock Samsung android, instead of the Vodafone, you still have warranty. Only thing that can happen is that when you send your phone in, they'll flash a Vodafone rom back on and you'll be having all the vodafone crap back on it.
Really? That's the best news i've heard, since i had this problem. Thanks a lot, how did you know this?

The terms and conditions do not say you can flash any old rom and not break your warranty .
The position is one with a stock rom you may get away with warranty repairs but it will depend upon who you take it to and even the guy picking up the phone .
Samsung service centre and they may well repair .
Vodaphone service centre and its clear that they do not have too repair as you have broken your terms of warranty with Vodaphone .
So rule one is a back up of your original rom will nearly always be the safest path it also allows you to use the Kies method for official firmware updates if you want to revert back .

Experience: I messed up 2 of my previous phones (SE and HTC) due to flashing firmwares and brought them to T-Mobile and Vodafone, telling them the phone got stuck in boot. They took them in and when I got them back, they had Vodafone and T-mobile firmware on them again.
But as jje stated, its offcourse always the best to have a backup of your phones firmware. Its always possible some annoying Vodafone guy pops up, and makes a big deal out of it.
Thanks for all the input,
I never wanted to flash my sgs, but i screwed up the original rom and the phone didn't boot so it was my last resort.
Due to that i didn't make a backup.
In kies i have my rom as KOR and it says that i can't update, if i that *#272#imei code and put it in XEU, would it work? In theory.

Is there a way to download ROMs from the Kies server so that they can be flashed manually at a later date? I'm thinking that if I need it, I can flash back to the latest H3G branded firmware for warranty purposes.

Hello all,
I recently bought samsung galaxy s i 9000 it was pre loaded with froyo 2.2 and when ever i connect it to kies it gets connected for the first time and then onn if i disconnect it will never get connected unless i restart the phone.. I tried to update the firmware several times and it downloads the files but gets disconnected in between. I badly wanted to change to ginger bread and just loaded with odin.. Now, I started having the real problem its getting stuck most of the times and i had to open the task manager to free the ram.
But the video player is supporting more formats and no problem connecting with kies.. and i used it for sometime. Now while hanging up a call its getting stuck frequently. And once i had to lose most of my balance.
I decided to roll back my firmware to froyo 2.2 but I came to know I might lose the warranty tampering with O.S.. Is that really so?? And I got an asian version of froyo 2.2.1 for march 2011 from one of the threads and I flashed it into my phone. Now, kies is telling that this version cannot be updated. Can some one please suggest me
1) How I can get back my official firmware...which can also support updates in kies.
2) And Is that possible to retain warranty with any firmware?
I had to spend the whole of sunday over this please suggest me...
Thank you
go to samfirmware.com try search see u got luck there got upload the version for ur country... juz flash with odin... very easy....

Go to www.samfirmware.com and register. Download the ROM you want. I'm currently using XXJVR (Android 2.3.4). It is quite stable.
Then, use Odin to flash the ROM onto your device. Make sure you backup all your important data. I recommend MyBackupPro. It's available in the Market.
Then, switch off your phone completely and put it in 'Download Mode' (Volume Down + Home + Power). Connect it to your PC. Make sure you have the drivers installed.
Follow the instructions given on the website to flash with Odin. The XXJVR ROM has only 1 tar file. So, you're gonna have to use this procedure--> http://www.samfirmware.com/Odin I9000 2.png
Best of luck! Do let us know how it goes!
