So what are your thoughts, will you use a case with your NS? I have been using a HTC Desire without a case and not a single scratch on it (touch wood), but it also utilizes more scratch resistant materials.
Well I think we should base it off of how the current Galaxy S phones do without a case on the back. I do not want a case, but if the back is going to scratch easily, then I would consider it.
I hope it comes with a neoprene pouch like the original Nexus One does...
Based on the unboxing videos the Nexus S does not come with any pouch.
Best buy just listed the accessories they will have available on launch day. Not very impressive at all, mostly generic looking accessories.

Bummer about no pouch. Luckily I have one
Soft silicone/gel case is at least, which can absorb some impact when dropping and save your phone.

I will buy Gelaskins once it's available.
Holy crap, those are the worse cases I've ever seen!
And this: http://mobileaccessories.bestbuy.com/smartphone-experts-desktop-stand/5A100A6285.htm
Are you f'ing serious? You don't deserve to buy a Nexus S if you buy that thing.
almost all of those are just generic cases that will fit any smartphone. Probably gonna be a couple months until we see specific nexus s cases.
Anyway, for me i'm going to be getting an invisible shield for the front and a zagg skin for the back in a little custom design by me.
I'm going to use a Case-mate Barely There case without screen protector (in order to protect the back cover from scratches when I lean it on a table etc., for a better grip and for a minimal drop protection without being bulky) and a Mofi pouch (to protect the screen and the camera lens when I put it in my pocket).
Well... if they'll release such products for the Nexus S (but I do think so).

Case-Mate will release products for certain phones if there is a demand. There was a poll for the Vibrant and got about 400+ votes I think. Case-Mate ended up making cases for the phone. So it's still possible.
I just want a nice aluminum case to make it feel more substantial.

Case-mate Barely There ftw! had one for my N1 and sticker bombed it, all awesome
When I was using feature phones I went threw them at a rate of 3ish a year. Since the original iPhones release? I havent had a single issue with smartphones....but I suck at being nice, so I'm really really careful. I am not planning to grab a case (despite the fact that BB put one in my bag and charged me for it without asking) for my NS. The thing is plastic as hell. I have like 20 bowls that have been through my dishwasher at stupid temperatures and had no issues. Im not worried.

The Pop! case (iPhone version: http://www.case-mate.com/iPhone-4-Cases/Case-Mate-iPhone-4-Pop-Cases.asp) would also be nice if you want more protection. Seems like it's the successor of the Tough case.

not sure if you knew this already, but i check the gelaskins site every couple days, and today i see that they put up a link for the Nexus S, if you go to gelaskins.com and browse under phones, there's a Nexus S dry link... could be a sign of things to come
This phone is a scratch magnet cause theres no soft touch or anything on it so as nice as it is without a case it needs one

I bought the Platinum Case when getting my Nexus-S at Best Buy Mobile yesterday, hate to drop it on first week, and have a damaged nexy. After having it for a day, I was like man, this phone feels very crappy, quality wise, like loose and shaky.
So for the hell of it I took the case off. WOW !!! Very nice phone was hiding under all that plastics, the naked Nexus-S feels very solid and well put together. It was the case that made it feel ****ty.
I still have her in the case while working, will just take it off at night when at home. But would like an Otterbox "Impact" series, slim and tight rubber case. It's these 2 pc connected type cases that sound and feel loose and crappy.
I think gel cases are better for such phones.

Yeap I got it.
+1 for gel or silicone case. i have a black silicone zenus case on my vibrant and absolutely love it (and i've dropped my vibrant twice since owning it). I made the mistake of buying different cases (leather, rubberized crystal, etc) and never end up taking the zenus one off. and anything outside of a gel skin adds unflattering weight and thickness to these very sleek, thin phones. i emailed a zenus seller today to see if they were aware of any nexus s cases on the horizon.
I sent an email to Case-Mate to see if they'll be making a case for the NS. Hopefully I get a response soon.
Im extremely picky with cases

This is a great case. I have one of the hybrids, a plain TPU, and the TMo rubber case. I switch between them, but the hybrid is the best all-arounder.

I hate cases. To me, putting a case on a phone like this is like bringing home a beautiful, sexy woman and then putting a fat girl suit on her.
I just returned mine as well. That case was not worth anything near 35 dollars. I'm using my hacked up nexus one sleeve now and it works great.

I also see a lot of people referring to a "platinum case" from best buy... but im looking it over and unsure which one they are talking about bc both use the word platinum.

I've just seen the Tech 21 d30 Flip Case for Google Nexus S and it looks very ineresting - it's a flip case and a stand at the same time.
Not to everyones taste but definitely interesting.
the case looks as if it is covering the capacitive keys on the bottom a little.
Found a Solid Nexus S Pouch
I was always a big fan of the Nexus One pouch and wanted to try and find one for the Nexus S. The Nexus One pouch was a little too tight on the NS and I'm keeping my Nexus One for now anyway.
I found this pouch on ebay and just got it in the mail today:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...m=&sspagename=ADME:L:OU:US:1123#ht_2415wt_907
The pouch is almost identical in quality and design to the N1 pouch except it is larger and says Samsung in small print. No Andy logo.
I paid only $3.99 including shipping and am very happy with it.
Thanks for the review. I think I'll pick one up too. How long did it take to arrive from HK?
Thanks

Hey thanks for sharing. Picked 1 up myself
it's a fine pouch,
but doesn't it gets in the way, having to always slide in, and slide out?

the ones on sale at BB is only available in Purple according to the website

You're an idiot. Point in case, a guy posted on XDA a couple months ago about going to a bar with friends and a buddy of his spilled a beer on his N1 and pouch. phone was taken out, pouch was rung out and washed, 500$ phone was protected. The MEANING of the pouch is protection. Come on, you understand that concept, right...grown up?
guys please keep the tone down a bit
bennettm89 got an excellent point in regards to the spill protection, it happens more often than you think
haha fine.
I actually got rid of my wallet because the n1 came with a pouch. I sewed in a "pocket" on the inside of the pouch for my CCs and Ids.
It's a relief to not have to carry around both a wallet and a phone now. I also have to worry less about "losing my wallet" cause I'm for damn sure not misplacing my phone.

ya thats what i heard as well, but to be honest i dont see how it could, phones pretty damn snug in there
I also picked one up too. $2.99. Can we see some shots?
Once I got my T-Mobile Note 2, I searched the interwebs for a case that would protect the phone and make it less slippery. The quest was not an easy one, with barely any cases available, and most being replicas with different names. Additionally, none of the ones I saw offered protection around the corners, something that I find 100% essential on a case.
So after several hours on the general Galaxy Note II Accessories forum and several pages down the Amazon hole through multiple search keywords, I found the perfect case, for the time being. The case is a basic TPU S-line hybrid with an added kickstand. Nothing new or revolutionary, I'm sure, but given the lack of choices as of yet, a good one nonetheless.
The case protects, as commented, all 4 corners, and it protrudes enough that it lets you place the phone face down without suffering any damage on the screen. The kickstand works, though this is also the biggest caveat I've found.
The kickstand is on a hinge, and, to keep the case as thin as possible, the kickstand is embedded into the case. This wouldn't be such a problem, this happens on the Seidio Active, for example. However, the case is so thin that the hinges protrude too much out of the case, causing this to be the main point of contact with the surface when you place the phone on its back. It's irritating because one would hope a case would make the phone less slippery when placed on a surface than the original plastic, but hanging from two small pieces of plastic is not much better. There's always the placing the phone on its kickstand position, and that's fine, but don't think about pushing the phone hard on this position, or you'll cause the hinge to let you shift the phone to the "second" position, and, if pushed further, down to the ground.
The kickstand hasn't broken yet, but leaves uncertainty on how long it'll last. The black part of the case is grippy, specially on its sides, with the semi-see-through material being more slippery (though this is not an inconvenience, really).
All ports are well protected, but not covered, so no worries about echo issues like in other cases.
The kickstand is perfect for watching movies on the beautiful 5.5 inch screen.
The durability of the case is debatable. While I'm sure it'll withstand some falls, its purpose is more of a "now it'll not slip off my hands every time I pull it out of my pocket" than "let's toss this sucker from a 20 ft window"
This case more than serves its purpose, and at $5.98 including S&H (shipping from MN, USA), it should be in everyone's short list of capable though cheap cases.
If your phone is naked awaiting a case that fits your immediate needs, this will suffice. If you're looking for something that protects better, is more elegant, and of a known brand, the Seidio Active with Metal Kickstand is my #1 choice. But meanwhile, until it is released, I'd rather have this $6 case than go "naked".
I'm waiting for Amazon to accept all my images that I uploaded so I can provide you with images.
In the meantime, you can check out my Amazon Review here.
>>> It comes on either Black, Blue, Pink, Purple, White. I think I've also seen red, and I'm sure you can also find it on eBay.
>>> Black one seems to be "Unavailable".
Did it come with that screen protector you have installed?
I ordered one from china might get it next year LOL and also ordered another for a note 1, hopefully is as good as this one, I've had the S-line case on my S3 and even tho it was cheap i loved it.. you keep the slimness of the phone witch is important having a 5.5inch screen on the pant pockets isn't fun, imagine adding 1cm of case might aswell get the iDevice-mini.

Yeah I tried to do it so that the selling company was located in the US, just so it wouldn't take so long to arrive because I was holding the phone naked and it was slippery as hell.
The screen protector is a SPIGEN SGP Samsung Galaxy Note 2 Screen Protector Clear Steinheil [Ultra Oleophobic] [2-PACK]
Personally, I don't think the protector is the best, but I feel more comfortable about using my phone now. The safer the better. I got a scratch on my S2 with Gorilla Glass, because I figured "oh Gorilla Glass...don't need a protector". I tried to put protector when I first got it, but failed on 3 accounts. It just didn't look good. Wore it for a while till it looked even worse and I just simply removed it. And of course... Sh*t happens.
So this time, I ordered protector same time as case. Except it is fulfilled by Amazon so it took 2 days free shipping. I think the price is high, AND I have 2-3 bubbles that don't go away. Really, they aren't bubbles. They're specks of dust, and the surrounding area does not stick to the screen. I've thought about using the second protector but...uh I don't know.
"But it's Gorilla Glass 2, you don't need protector!" Not gonna fall twice for that. "But it's gonna interfere with the S Pen!" You know what, I think from time to time it does interfere. I've noticed sometimes while drawing that I might lift the pen but it still draws on the screen. Not sure if that's due to the screen protector or not...
Anyway, best of luck. Protect your phone with the first thing you find in the meantime until you get your case!
i see there's a minor bump on the kickstand that prevents the phone from laying perfectly flat on it's back. Is there' a slight wobble to it if you lay it flat and touch one side?
I just got this case in today and Im happy with what I got for the money.

Since I got the Note 2 from t mobile on the day of launch, the store was not carrying any cases so I went ahead and ordered a cheap plastic case from ebay and ran to the sprint store where they had ONE SAMSUNG OEM FLIP CASE and purchased as well. As everybody knows, this samsung OEM case DOES NOT PROVIDE SIDE/CORNER protectio and since I HAVE NO GRIP hands, I had to have every kind of protection available so I integrated both covers. Here are some sample pics. I will keep this on until I get my SPIGEN case!!!!

It really is thin. This may not be the best for you, but I'd say just because of the kickstand, it may hold you over until you find a better one. Personally looking forward to Trident Aegis and Seidio Active. There's also Otterbox...

Sorry, can't help you there. I really had no problem whatsoever putting this one in. I've taken it out about a dozen times, and I've never had issues taking it out or putting it back in. I ordered the Seidio Active case, so this one will be retired soon. But while using it, my only complaint was that the stand was not reliable. That's about it.
You might want to contact the seller and get a replacement. Looks like there's something wrong with yours. Also, make sure that all ports/buttons line up, and that they didn't send you the case for the wrong phone or some such.
Good luck!
This case is "unavailable" on Amazon but there are a million of them on Ebay, in all different colors. I got one in clear because I like to show off my phone, not the case, although I know from my old iPod case that I actually like the look of a clear glass-like edge around the sides.
I just wanted to chime in that if you get the clear version, beware that it *will* stick to the back cover of the phone. It's ugly because you get these big blobs and patches, and I found it immediately unacceptable. The case only cost me $5 so I just tried sanding it down on the inside so it wouldn't stick... which technically worked, but now it's even uglier. Yeah, I ruined it, but I couldn't see using it the way it was before. I was also concerned that over time, it'd stick so hard that I wouldn't be able to get it off. Already, whenever I'd take it off, I'd hear a "crack" as it unstuck from the back cover. I'm actually still using it after the sanding and it works just fine and doesn't stick anymore, but it is ugly.
My advice is to get a solid color version of this case if you get one, and still sand the inside of it so it doesn't stick. (Though make sure it's really opaque if you sand it; if it's clear at all, you'll see sanding marks.)
I really like kickstand cases but I'm thinking now of just getting something that gives me a little better grip on the phone (like a textured back cover) and then either not getting a case at all, or getting another one of these and hoping it doesn't stick to a more matte back cover.

No, I don't have one sorry.
I just spotted it on ebay last night and thought I would post it here as an alternative for people to consider when I saw the thread earlier
I do have it in my watchlist and may purchase later, but at the moment I'm using a FlyGrip and a plain matt tpu case
The kickstand looks a bit more flush on that one. Does not seem like there is much texture in the TPU for grip though. I will let someone else be the guinea pig, but I am curious to hear about it.

Me too, I'm very curious about this case...
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda premium
They have that one in clear now too.
It looks frosted so it probably just has a matte texture that makes it easier to grip.
I found another clear TPU case similar to the first kickstand one but minus the stand and with all 5-star reviews on Amazon... found the same case on Ebay for cheaper (under 5 bucks) so I'm trying that next. If that one still creates unsightly stickiness, I'll just go for a clear hard plastic case. I've used one of those on my iPod for literally 5 years and they are surprisingly effective and look perfect.
LOL. I ordered the clear one to try out. I am so weak and have no will power.

I feel the same way. I'm nervous about dropping my device. The note 2 was actually a gift from my partner, hehe. So I want to take extra good care of it. I even wanted to buy the Otterbox Defender case which would make it a tank. I had that case for my iPhone 3G and it turned it into a tank / brick. So I'm going to stay away from it.
I did buy the Seidio Active Case for my Note 1, and it was a GREAT case. I loved it! It made it thicker, but it wasn't that bad. So I'd suggest a case like that. I wouldn't the Case Mate pop case either, but it's not out yet. Or I'm waiting for the Speck Pixel HD Case. That will make my day! I loved that case so much on my iPhone 4. Great protection, great design. Great case. Until then, I'm going to keep using the original cases and the cheapo cases.
Anyways, good luck! Share your findings / or review your cases I am kind of a case freak. I love cases! :$

I think AT&T got an exclusive perhaps? I mean, why else would Case-Mate NOT want to put it up on their website and sell 100 times more across the globe?

saw this when browsing cases for my wifes s3. Does anyone know of a case like this for the Note 2 that isn't insanely expensive? Main part is the lip that comes up a decent amount above the screen to protect the screen when the phone hits the floor.

This is pretty close and comes with a kickstand. The only thing I do not like is the hard shell is 2 piece and might be a pain to remove once you install it. The softshell just stretch over the hard shell. Looks like an otterbox defender with raise screen lip.

This one looks pretty good too an easy on and off. I think I will order this one.

I will try to post some useful info but I DO NOT have my note 2 yet, it is coming tomorrow.
Here goes to a half-assed review
1) The TOP CORNERS are not protected at all. They are protected by the somewhat thin, soft, flexible material and not protected by at least the outer plastic part like on the bottom and that's a problem. I am guessing corners should be protected the most because that is what causes the screen to crack(unless it faceplants)
2) I am NOT SURE about the how trustworthy the lip is because I NEVER had a case on a smartphone and my samsung vibrant was like an unbreakable brick. From my experience of looking at products through videos, pictures, etc. the lip does not seem like it will bring enough protection for a faceplant.
Unfortunately, I will ask for a refund.
P.S. The shipping part was very fast, the only thing that will make this seller a 6/5 would be if I get a refund
Hope this helps some of you out in your decision
Great I just ordered this case in white and blue yesterday

stay away from the dual layer "mesh" like ones on that link. really CRAP
the other ones the fishbone style ones are actually shockingly nice considering how cheap they are. they are NOT easy to take apart again without breaking (slow careful and once you pop the joint use a thumbtack to pop each successive joint)
but they are surprisingly nice.
you can get a case ology case like the one you posted for the Note II I am still waiting for case ology to get on the ball and make the impact case (with the 2 arcs on the back) that I like and use on all my phones when possible.
I also got a Jelly Tank case from korea. its a one piece hybrid but VERY protective. not "as" protective of the screen as I would like but so far very impressed with it.
I got these because of the good protection on the corners and front:
http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_n...Case+for+Samsung+Galaxy+Note+II+Note+2+N7100+
Got the "Hybrid" case from ebay and it sucks. Inside hard shell is doesn't fit so the phone moves around a creaks. Hard to use the buttons and makes it too think. I think I migh try the Ionic Guardian case next.

Hi all
I just ordered a Note 2 and, by all the comments on cases around here, I wonder if I should hurry to also get a case.
But the point is: is it really necessary?
- A case makes this big phone even bulkier.
- A case can compromise ports access, external audio quality and the gps/nfc/... receptions
- A good case can cost a lot of money
- I won't find a case around the corner (at least, here in Brazil). I must buy it online, maybe pay for shipping and wait for like a month for it to come to me.
Hey, I don't want to be critical to the ones who feel important to use a case. Just want to start some discussion here
My point of view:
I'm retiring an old Motorola Defy. It has never used any kind of case or screen protector and its condition is quite good. It is always in my pocket (a lot of times sharing the space with a bunch of keys) and it has fallen to the ground some times, from like the pocket height for instance.
I know the Note 2 is a different phone, so thats the point of the question. I've never had another Samsung phone, so I may not have the right idea about the durability of it.
So, I'm looking forward to your thoughts and experiences on using (or not using) protective cases for the Note 2.
I would prefer not to have one, but I would mostly get one if this really happens that Samsung did a fragile phone and it is important to get external protection.
100% need a case. I got my note 2 weeks ago and bought a genuine Samsung case which is skim anyway. Protects the screen and back from scratches. Plus no case makes it slippery and one drop will mean destroyed phone. Good luck mate!

Hi Brayden87, thanks for the reply.
I've seen the samsung case on the Note 1. It really is slim.
It actually is so slim I wonder it really does protect the phone. Would you say it can make the difference upon a drop?
This is one I would like to get... probably easier to find too.
For the love of god get a case. I have a cover for that it a back plate with a leather flap that goes over the screen, and a screen protector. My wife has a full case for hers.
I dropped my. Screen smashed. She drops hers a few times not one scratch.
After I get a DIY new screen off amazon. Im buying am otter box. (Rogers send broken screens to samsung and costs $280. Or a DIY is only $16)

Hi plugsmustard.
Very interesting experience. It seems that this phone is really more fragile than my Defy. I don't doubt that, it is so much larger and thinner, it looks like it may brake easily. Its just that Samsung should be salling a phone that is fairly resistant to the day-to-day misshapenings...
But these otterbox are very expensive and would have to find a retailer that ships to Brazil. Can I trust Ebay sellers?
Isn't it too bulky?
What are the least requirements for a good protective case?
Note 2 size is big so I do not want case for it. Only a carbon back cover for better handling and protect camera. When bezel is scratched, I replace it for 5$. Perfect way for me .

You can purchase knock-off Otterbox cases from eBay, as well as others such as the Griffin Survivor case (fake, but still provides great protection) Casemate Tough and the Urban Armor Gear Note 2 case, etc.
Above-mentioned cases have been thoroughly reviewed by the one and only Vectron, and are viewable here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2192333
I got the body glove tpu... slim and sexy. Dropped my phone about 4ft high and didn't get any damage. Of course could be just luck. Phone is big and slick without a case. I would get a slim tpu type of case if you are worried about bulk. It gives a little more protection than naked.

For the love of all that is good and holy, get a case. And you don't need to go crazy buying an expensive one or waiting forever for a HK distributor. I own a bunch of cases because I love to swap 'em out, but my go-to case (and one of the least expensive cases I've bought is the Duzign Sentinel from from eBay that I got for $7.00 from a seller named senyx. The auctions are non-stop and I often see them ending at the opening bid of $7.00, like when I got mine. Shipping is free and the seller is in CA, so you get it quickly:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Duzign-Sent...t=US_Cell_Phone_PDA_Cases&hash=item20d25bad89
It's been discussed on other threads, but this one has a cool H.R. Giger alien look to it, offers awesome protection, and it has, in my opinion, the best TPU inner layer of any case (it's got a nice thick lip to protect the screen of your Note 2 in case of an unlucky fall). Heck the TPU is a great case by itself, and the outer shell comes with a kickstand for horizontal viewing. the Sentinel is identical to the Cruzer Lite Spi-Force case which sells for about $20. Just don't get the black/white as the white does get dirty pretty quickly. Mine is black on black and besides my UAG and bamboo cases, it easily gets the most compliments.
That is my .02 . . . hope it helps.
Not that it's particularly delicate, but it is particularly expensive.
If you don't buy a case, I expect the first bit of damage to trigger a new thread "Scratched by $600 phone! Damn!"
Hi everybody.
Thanks for all the opinions. These Duzign Sentinel do seem quite robust and not that bulky. The looks are quite odd (comparing to the original sober looks of the phone) but are not that bad...
That is the kind of price I would pay without feeling that I am paying a lot to have a bulkier phone.
I wont bother much if the bezel gets scratched. My main concern is the screen integrity.
I do have one year warranty (which I do not know if covers external damage :/) and, if something happen, I could always go DIY to try to fix it. The biggest problem would be the phone become useless for weeks :/
I do agree that it is important to feel safer with such expensive phone.
At the other hand, is hard to believe that Samsung, which is leading against Apple in such quality fight, still delivers such a fragile gadget and even dont provide a reasonable protection option as an accessory. That is very awkward.
Case-mate Tough seems very nice and is found at US$ 10.99 on Amazon. Too bad it doesn't ship to Brazil.

Any other suggestion of worldwide retailers? Ebay?

Haha . . so true. I know it's dorky, but I remember my grandmother always telling me: "an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure." Well, in this case, a $10 case is worth a $100 deductible.

Actually cheaper through Case-Mate because shipping is free if you have Amazon Prime. This other seller requires a $3.99 surcharge. Still, $14.64 is a good deal. Returns or problems would probably be handled much better through original retailer, as well.

Good question. I had the flip case but it sucks and I dropped my phone twice and got two nice dents. I ordered a simple case for like 5 bucks just so the back doesn't feel slippery and what not. I do not use a screen protector, it'll be fine.
I bought the seidio active case and a glass screen protector before I even bought the note ii. This is a very expensive phone, I wouldn't use it and not buy some kind of protection. Seidio has an updated case call surface case but it didn't work with the glass screen protector cause the inside hard case would rub against the screen protector and push it up.The active case work great it's very slim and has a holster. Well long story short, I dropped my phone many times and nothing has broke or cracked. My job is physically demanding and its easy to bump or drop. Alot of my coworkers has cracked screens or has broken there phone.

I think you're confused with another case, I have the protective cover+ and it's probably 2-3mm thick. Adds barely any thickness to the note 2 and looks awesome. Cost me $30. I didn't want a big case and this one is perfect for me. Covers everything you want covered.

Very interesting indeed. And very nice looking bumper btw. This metallic bumper wouldn`t interfere on the device antennas?
I will consider these as well... I wonder how they compare to full body cases such as Duzign Sentinel, Speck Candyshell or Case-mate Tough.
I didn't feel like I needed a case at all. Till I dropped it. Twice. The rear cover went flying and so did the battery. Phone held up flawlessly, but i didn't like the flying parts. So I bought a cute Incipio case from androidcentral.com
