Anyone here can port TRUE CRYPT to Android? I am ready to donate if anyone can do this.
Even a basic program that can encrypt and decrypt SD card, at least the external SD card would be acceptable. This way we can be assured that data on the external SD card is secure, and store documents on that.
I looked for something along the same lines for a while, tried every app I could find on the market that was related, but none of them came anywhere near truecrypt's functionality.

Agreed. If anyone could get an app that could atleast encrypt the whole external card, I'm good. Don't even want the functionality of mounting n dismounting as a drive.

Me too!
It's the only application I can't find alternative on Android. I need a port of TrueCrypt or FreeOTFE very much!
I think we could start a bounty for anyone who can do this.

I emailed them a long time asking if they would consider a port and I never heard back from them. Other people should email them and ask so they see that there is a desire for it

It would be super awesome if they ported it to the Android platform. In my experience, BB 9700 is a truly secure device with its full AES-256 encryption. I used to use it before i got my Captivate so i can def say i miss that feature.

Truecrypt has an dedicated forum, I would say ikt would make a lot of sense to go their and propose realistic outlines/requirements of what we expect from a TC version for Android. There seem to be a lot of folks who cling to the notion of "if it is important do not put it in a handset with a Google OS because Google kis teh evil".
Voice your opinions and needs there, maybe that makes a difference.

Software is called Truecrypt. Surprisingly it has an official website, truecrypt.org. Checking that one out you find a blue box on top which has a simple text link going to the forums.

really not that hard to find. Linking the actual thread won't do anything either way cause you need to sign up for full access. Once you are, just use in site search with the term Android or something.

I'll give it a try.
I'm setting up a machine to work on it right now, will let you know how it goes. First attempt will be to get some sort of command-line based utility operational.

I've been interested in making something like this. I do have android development experience as well.
I'm assuming opening a truecrypt container would be a good place to start.
How interested are you guys, really?

What happened to the honeybunches thread? What was the reason it was deleted??
OP requested that his thread be deleted.
Huh okay, thanks.
Was a reason given? Is he working on a newer version? I donated money and although I understand that a donation is giving someone money without precondition, an explanation would be the polite thing to do.

You donated money to someone for a small tweak on the Honeycomb SDK port that deeper-blue had created... Your loss.
Not really, I appreciated his work. And since I cannot contribute to the community with expertise, I choose to do so with money since I am generally a fan of the work put out by others on this board. Trust me, if blue had a donate link I would be one of the first to kick in some cash. But he hasn't and despite being a "minor tweak" the build was still quite good.
I DENIED ALL DONATIONS... NO MONEY WAS TAKEN. I didnt want any legal issues with google. I saw in deepers q&a about the market.

Not a problem, I apologize if I stepped on your privacy.
He deleted his post because it was becoming quite apparent that he was blatantly copying someone else's work. Taking a "picture" (diskimage) of a working version of someone else's work with a couple of apks added to it does not make it "your custom rom". He had no business giving advice on technicalities of Honeycomb that he had no understanding of, and it's no wonder that Blue wouldn't give this kid the time of day and "work together" on future builds...I'm really surprised no one called him on it earlier than now...
I do believe the reason for the OP deleting was merely the fact that you aren't meant to include GApps (Market, Gmail, Maps etc..) inside ROMS or devices that aren't licensed by Google. That's why you don't see cheap Android tablets with the Android Market on - Google hasn't licensed them too. Same applies to ROMS.
Actually Marcusant wasn't just adding "a few apks." He tweaked DB's release to make an image that would fit a 2gb card for those that didn't have access to bigger cards.
Yep--makes it even shadier-- Here is his math, in base form:
(Deep Blue's build) + (Google's Gapps) + (LauncherPro) = ("MY CUSTOM ROM" WOOT?)
It was wrong on every level.
Zeroing out space and using a partition tool still leaves you with someone elses exact work underneath. Not an excuse. Fine (IMO) to post as a image of DB's build, but NOT as 'my custom rom'. Anyone else agree?

Do you think that Google would sue the guy over a rom on his nook color he was using for personal use? I don't. I could see it if he was selling the rom or selling nooks he rooted and put the market on. If Google were going to sue it probably would have started a long time ago with all of the devices that have been rooted and the market was put on. Or it would have started when the nc was first rooted and the market was put on it.
Why would they sue? As long as people are using it like they should then google is just MAKING MORE MONEY by us having the market on another device to buy apps with.
Marcusant did google ask you to take your thread down?
Just to clarify, deeper-blue was fine with my work...

By your assessment, Deep Blue is just copying someone else's work too (i.e. Google). I thought the point of this forum is for people to find ways of making our devices work better, or making it easier to make our devices work better?
The only real issue, that I can see here, is that he included the Market. He also made several tweaks (tweaks Deep Blue did not make), including raising the DPI and making it fit on a 2GB card.
This is not supposed to be a site about egos or who's copying who. He gave credit to Deep Blue and this is all that is necessary. He never claimed to have created the whole thing himself.

Really???? Maybe you should rethink that statement. There is no record whatsoever of deeperblue ever responding to one of your posts, or questions needing help from him on Xda. Having to communicate with someone that is 'fine with your work' by posting "DEEPER BLUE PLEEEASE READ" messages in their thread should be all the evidence you need. You might want to actually talk to him before making these claims.

Don't take this the wrong way, but creating a website for the Thunderbolt right now is like showing up late to a party with a 12 pack of Bud Light. Everyone will be happy you came, but you didn't bring anything that wasn't already there. Now, if you show up with a bottle of Single Barrel Jack Daniel's, you will be the shiznit at the party. So, if you can, please try to bring something different to your website. With that said, I'll be sure to keep checking on your site, it's always nice to have more people at the party.

To be honest, I love this idea. It's kind of hard to find updated roms and mods for any phone, not to mention the Thunderbolt. BeardedMan... Why is making a website like this, which will (hopefully) be a good hub for Thunderbolt mods and roms, getting "late to the party?" Is there another website out there like this, besides the android forms or Rom Manager? If there is, I'd like to know.
frankzua77, I would like to say thank you. If this website becomes what I think it will, it will make modding the Thunderbolt so much easier. If you need any help, just let me know.
I think the problem beardedman is referencing is the fact that there are a lot of android websites/forums already (even thunderbolt specific) and that there are a lot of much newer phones getting the attention. I have yet to not find anything I'm looking for without a 10 second search on Google. And the Thunderbolt is real close to being yesterday's superphone, if it's not already.
Plus, the problem with any of these sites is someone has to maintain it...which means sifting through posts, updating daily, etc. Unless it's a wiki that anyone can update, it's the same reason that the stickies all get outdated. Heck, it's the same reason I've started threads on many forums for many topics trying to compile information and eventually given up.
Now that I've rained on the parade and come off as a prick, I do applaud the effort...even if it doesn't stay updated or become the hub you imagine, at least you have an idea and a passion and are trying to do something about it. Don't lose that. And who knows...maybe it's just what the community needs

Still a WIP, but just needs attention.
Not knocking this idea at all, but should really consider opening it up to a wiki format and not center only on the thunderbolt.

I really appreciate everyone that makes their point, I am currently working on the page. One of my goals is to have videos that can show you a ROM even before you consider downloading it. I know we are focusing on the tbolt, who knows maybe later on this expands to having other phones and stuff...

Can all developers please share some information regarding job interviews?
I would like to know how to improve myself in a interview for development and how to improve my answers in order to make myself more appealing.
Here are some questions that i've been asked and would like to know how to improve the answers too:
1) When you need help with coding, what do you do? - what sites do you use? - How do you approach a solution?
2) When do you approach you senior developer?
3) How do you keep up to date ?
4) Give me an example of when you solved a difficult problem using PHP (or whataever language)
Basically many examples need to be given, not sure how to answer them.
There are other questions that I'll ask when they come to mind.
I need some input guys!! or at least guide me in the right direction please

If I do go for a site, I first use Google and anything relevant to what I'm already trying to do to solve the problem. If Google doesn't help, or the answers are too vague and I need something more specific then there's no better help out there than StackOverflow. If you don't know it, get to know it
Also, see the next question.

Learn to prioritise. There's nothing really more to say about that as it's a personal experience thing. Make sure you keep notes of every task you need to do and mark it done when it's done, no matter how trivial it seems. You get better at it the more you do it.

This is obviously a very personal question that no-one can answer for you. I'm not gonna tell you about any projects I've worked on and had to deal with problems because there's no point. If you give it as an example they'll only ask you to expand on it and you won't be able to. Besides, it's all well and good trying to impress, but don't out-and-out lie at an interview. Basically, they just want to know that you *can* solve problems. Tell them something where you learnt something that you were able to use again - it shows a willingness to learn, the ability to understand there are things you need to learn, and that you can grow from such a situation.
Other than that, be confident and remember that they've got you in for an interview because they're already interested. Also, it's not a 1-way street. They might be arseholes that you'd never work for. The interview is as much for you as it is for them.
Not sure if any of that has been any help, but they're my honest answers anyway.
Good luck, and let us know how you get on

In that case, tech blogs with RSS feeds. I use iGoogle as my home page both at home and at work and it has different feeds on there for different bits of tech (web development, windows development, mobile development etc..)
Also, I think confidence is best when it's natural. If you've not got it yet then just keep getting better at what you're doing and you'll eventually get it. I've been doing it a long time now so only get a slight flutter of nerves at interviews. It's normally just a case of answering questions honestly and asking a couple of good ones back and I get the job. There's a lot of people out there doing development work, but not that many that have stuck it out and got actually good at it. Stick at it and you'll become a valuable commodity!

You know the answer to the question about solving a problem was to go to the original source, like wordpress has their own codex/reference site. Php has theirs, jQuery and all that. I use those site but didn't even consider stating it in the interview.

I plan to stick at it, since its putting food in my plate but I need to get better since like yesterday! Its been my life since January, really focusing on it but now trying to get a balance in my life back again.

Thanks for your time Archer
Here's a list of the feeds I have on the "development" tab of my home page...
MSDN .Net Blog
Android Developers Blog
Visual C# News
Windows Phone Developers Blog
jQuery Blog
Just have a search for blogs that are relevant to your interests and most of them will either work as an RSS feed direct, or will have an RSS or Atom link, both of which are perfect for iGoogle (or other RSS readers).
I do use G+, but not in a professional capacity at all. To be honest though, I don't use any social networks for anything professional. I probably would if I had my own business and needed to market myself, but I don't so it's just not relevant.
As for pointers, the only thing I can really say is that when someone presents you with a challenge, look at it as an opportunity to enhance your knowledge and skill-set. I've seen many programmers respond with "Yeah, you can't do it like that. We'll do it like this instead." That's bull. There's virtually nothing you can't make your computer or website do, with just some imagination and perseverance. And it goes without saying, the more you enjoy it the better you're likely to be at it.
So what field are you going into? You said you've been doing it since January, but I expect you've been doing it a lot longer than that. Is this your first time developing as a career?

Developers/programmers have been trying to figure out how to dual boot the HD7 (like the HD2) since it came out. The main problem seems to be how WP7 is compiled .NET and C#. WP7 securitys still aren't fully unlocked.
Take a look at the Project Haret thread, they seem to be making some progress at it and if you have the know how, maybe you can contribute.

I think the way to go about accessing this or at least what I am going to try is an attempt to gain root access with my device tethered to my comp from terminal.

I've read through the whole Project Haret thread and there is alot of information, (some way to complicated for me) trial and error and it looks like as of recent there has been some good progress towards getting Haret to perform and (hopefully) run kernel mode and actually boot the kernel. You might be right, give it a shot or maybe put it on the thread and see what kind of feed back you get on it!
Is your device unlocked yet so that you can gain access to it and try it out?
Personally I would love to see the HD7 dual boot WP7 and Android. Don't get me wrong... I thoroughly enjoy WP7 and love my HD7it's very smooth, fast, stable and not once has it crashed on me. I believe that it would bring a longer life experience to the device and make it that much more versatile, especially since we're nearing the end of official support.
The thanks button should be there now, under the posts.

Ok so I realize I might sound like an idiot considering everything I said can be found within the haret documentation. I originally read something found on google with inaccurate information after you told me about the project, come to find out the information I read was in no way affiliated with the the actual project haha. Forgive my stupidy, I began to read and follow along the documaton for it at htc-linux.org, the only thing I am having issue with is obtaining haretconsole to explore the device. The link on the documentation I believe no longer exists, and I can't find a source anywhere! This is pretty good stuff though thanks for linking me up with it! Have you installed the development tools or haretconsole on a linux OS by chance? I was successful with the developement tools, just need to figure out this haretconsole problem. BTW which desktop OS do you prefer?
Sadly I can't tell if my device is unlocked yet haha. I work at a university doing LAN Administration currently and used my .edu e-mail to register as a developer. I then registered my device but don't see a single difference or maybe I just am doing something wrong. How do you suggest going about that(unlocking it that is, I don't care about it being official, just figured official would be easlier)? Also for the iPhone there is a desktop application which allows you to access the filesystem called iFunBox, is there anything similar for the wp7?
I would just love android lol, I like the HTC HD7 and have always been a fan of HTC products, It definately is pretty smooth and compared to my previous device a 3gs it's lightening fast! 3g isn't supported with the 3gs on t-mobile either. My biggest issue with wp7 is the fact it doesn't do anything I want to be done in a device, I use my mobile browser ALOT and I have never seen a browser period with this many bugs, I installed safari but it's not even the same lol! For the most part I strongly strongly dislike anything related to microsoft, but unfortunately I have to work with the windows platform quite often because of my job. There just such a dirty/shady/grimmy company period, I saw a commercial yesterday advertising bing where they claimed 2 out of three people choose bing over google in a blind study............how can they advertise that when they stole googles code! lol. Also it was a pretty dirty business move of microsoft to do what your talking about with the wp8. They claim there going to continue support on 7 but we both know they all say that and do put the effort towards the legacy system for a short period of time before cutting it. Screwing Nokia out of major growth potential within the U.S. while going back on the promise made to them regarding free upgrades to 8 for 7 devices. I think they feel like there invincible just because they currently run the desktop OS market share. I think their will likely be a major change in the preferred OS within the next 10 years, just because I work in an 30,000 user enterprise that refuses to upgrade their liscensing with microsoft because of windows 8's inability to meet our needs.
Sorry if this message way to long haha

Sorry its taken me so long to get back with you... Been crazy busy!
Unfortunetly I only have Windows OS, PC and Laptop. Funny enough though, I just got my laptop back from the shop a couple weeks ago and I had to have the harddrive replaced. Last week my PC got the BSOD (blue screen of death) and I had to completly wipe and restore it.
My next computer will be a Linux OS forsure. I wish I had one currently to install Haret and play around with it!
The student registration is limited and you can only sideload a max of 3 unasigned apps. You would be better off to fully unlock your device and install a custom rom, this will give you more options to sideload as many unasighned apps as you want in the form of XAP's through IE. Access to the registry/file system and to apply hack and tweaks. you can then familurize yourself with the OS and file system.
I can help walk you through the unlock process, it's pretty easy.
Go to settings, about, more info. post back all the information from that screen. Enter your device into bootloader mode - Power device off, hold down the volume down button and power the device back on, while continuing to hold down the volume down button, this will bring you into BL mode a tri-colored screen. Post back the information from that screen also.We can go from there. The proccess to unlock it basicially is to downgrade the SPL to 3.xxx or lower to install RSPL/HSPL wich will allow flashing of a custom rom.
My IE works excellent. It might be due to what build version that your device is running on. Either way once we get it unlocked there's custom roms running on Tango 8779 build with nice features and the device runs buttery smooth. there's also more mobile browsers available to install once it's unlocked, Opera Mobile,UC browser and a bunch more. There's all kinds of XAP's you can install to cusromize the device and enhance the user experience.
Totaly agree with you on the Android development for WP7 and the above statement regarding MS

I can't wait to install android to my HD7

Hello all! I jump from phone to phone when ever I can catch a broken one to fix for nearly free. I recently ran into an HTC HD 7 and am not really vibing to the windows mobile 7, and from what I read there is not currently a pre made rom available for installing android on this device. I am pretty technologically advanced and feel confident given the right direction on how to accomplish this I would be capable of creating one. I have read a lot of information but am some what lost mainly because of some of the lingo terminology, being that I haven't hacked/developed outside of the ios platform. I can program in just about any c based language. Any one got ne thing that can help me out here? If I build one how would I install it or go about uploading it to the device? Thanks in advance for any replies I do greatly appreciate all your time! I apologize about the noobness like I said ios is whats been available to me for the past few years, and now I want android like a kid wants candy!!!

Since the latest question on this in the forum was back in 2016, and it was not answered, I open a new thread.
I can pair my TP with OSX, and ask for Bluetooth to send a file to the TP. But it fails, fails and fails again.
It would be nice, as I do this all the time with my phone.
If there's something I need to do, please say; or install, please say. Thanks so much.
I'm on Noughat.
I never had any success transferring files using Bluetooth. WiFi is better faster and 100 % reliable, for example use this app:

HP-TOUCHPAD, I should just figure out where you live, buy your neighbor out, and live next door. But such a move will mean we talk about nothing else but TP. This cannot be healthy. But you get my point: I cannot even begin to describe how helpful you have been to me. To be honest, after installing Google, I've never used it. Always using F-Droid. So, I will look there first and see, if not, then fire up Google. Thanks, thanks, ever so much!:good::highfive::victory:

...as I don't have the money to support them in their Pro Version, I feel the need to come here and HEAP, HEAP, HEAP praises on them for this GREAT, GREAT, GREAT app! I even tried to mess it up by selecting more than one file, it uploaded them all quickly to my TP. Wow! One more reason why I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE my TP. Did I mention that reading in the sun is such a bliss!? Well, it is. A slight tilt sometimes and I can clearly see. Most times, that's not necessary. Great product. And great big social-distancing hugs to @HP-TOUCHPAD for supporting me to get this working. Thanks a lot @HP-TOUCHPAD and to others making this a great space.
You are very welcome @NestalSright, we are closer than neighbors, only a click away!

As always, thanks for those very great resources. And also, to the TP developers here. It's great to bring back to life these older electronics, if only to save them from being trashed! HP may not like you guys, but this community does!, for sure. THANK YOU!
