I just read through most of this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=694427
The OP of that thread is using 2.2.1 kernal on Nexus One. Would this method be compatible with any of the ROM's we have for the Captivate?

No, that method only applies to the Qualcomm chipsets.
If someone figures out how to do it with the Hummingbird, the same thing can be done (in principle)
I am gonna create a macro with this reply but in the meantime...
Please post this stuff on the right section this is DEVELOPMENT!

ok i come from the Verizon incredible forums and i need just some quick information because i am rooting and flashing really quick for my friend.
ok i got it rooted but it has an outdated rom because i used an outdated rooting tutorial. all i need is directions on flashing the radio and hmm, i think thats it if its even any different from the incredible (maybe just link me to a thread about it)
and maybe some recommended kernels im probably leaning towards cm7 as the ROM.
In development thread go to AOSP thread labeled AOSPCMOD Gingerbread CM7. In OP there is a link to the wiki. Giant red README. It has a step by step coming from stock. I'd link you but I am on my phone and don't have a clue how to do that.

CM7 RC4 is great. Also get him Kifno's upcoming 1.5 tweak from development section coming within the next week. It's great!
I'm fairly new to the galaxy tab and i'm unsure how to change the rom to cm7 my galaxy tab is a bell one P1000M its un rooted its stock for now so where do i start?
Root with Z4root but don't attempt to get CM7. Its a beta and you need to know how to use Heimdall to flash it.

Yes there is plenty of guides.
All roms come with introductions on how to install aswell as guides in teh sticky topics of teh forums.
Before you attempt to do anything to your device sit down and do some research otherwise you will be back here creating a "help I bricked my device urgent help" topic clone of the million others here.

You could read the OP in the CM7 development thread. Especially the part about how incomplete & unstable it is.
Either leave it alone, or flash Overcome instead for now, CM7 is several weeks away from being any use as a daily system.
I have been following the CM7 threads, seems like there is still some work to do to get it working on the tab.
I flashed overcome 1.4.4 and its very very nice. fast and smooth.
Hi everyone!
I tried searching for supported SpeedMod kernel.I didnt find any good kernel for my phone. I found kernel for S2 and i9000 only.I didnt see for Captivate. Now, I'm rooted my phone and I made backup with Titanium Backup pro. Whats your idea?
Sorry for my question
Cheers,
Dr. aLkoo
Go to development and do a forum search. It's there. Somewhere. Our download sgs tools from the market. It's linked in there.

Yes, but 1897 & 1900 cannot use the same software without the kernel being reoriented. As said above, look though the development forum

I am aware of that. But i also know there is a thread in development for the speedmod kernel, for the captivate (k13e i think).
Under my kernel version it says 2.6.35.11 and there is no K or anything letters. How do I know what kernel version I have? I am trying to root. I've done it to my last few phones but this one is seeming more difficult and the directions are more mixed and complex.
Go ahead and post a pic of your about phone screen..just make sure to get the bottom section where its at.

Oh. I am sorry. I didn't know there was a different forum for it. Thank you.

No problem...glad to help..
Dont use N7000 rooting method OR Dont use any ROM available for N7000.
This is the forum you need to follow

Thank you for the help. I was already in that "AT&T Galaxy Note I717 Android Development" forum and I had already rooted and installed a kernel and ROM on before reading this last message. I had saved this forum before the phone came out for AT&T so I wasn't aware they started a separate one. Thanks guys.
I got my HTC Vivid a few months ago and I upgraded to ICS and I dislike it a lot but I was wondering how to downgrade it easily. I also found a kernal source for GB; will that help? How do I downgrade my phone back to GB?
Unlock bootloader, flash recovery, flash GB ROM zip. That's the fastest and clearest way to do it.
If you found a kernel see above.
If you found kernel source, you will need to compile it. compiling is not hard, setting up a cross platform development tool chain is :/ Specially when you dont back all the way out and build your system kernel for ARM instead of x86 (
Not to hijack your thread, but shouldn't a downgrade to GB most likely be fine with an ICS kernel?
I only think of this as normally a kernel revision or 3 isnt a problem under GNU/linux, but is android/linux different in that regard?
Where would I get the GB ROM file?

Oh no worries, thanks for your help. Like I said I am a total noob at learning how to do all of this. The only thing I've ever done is unlock the bootloader and root my old HTC Inspire 4G.

what they said above, unless you mean you found a literall source like the code? then you'd have to compile and then flash.
