Hi All,
I would appreciate help with the following questions:
1 - Will rooting allow me to buy from the Pay-Android Market? I am in SOuth Africa and we only have the Free stuff
2 - Will rooting allow me to install all apps and games, including pay appd/games? Like an iPhone Jailbreak? So I wont have to pay
3 - Are there any down sides to rooting? Or adverse Side effects?
Also if possible can someone link me to a thread were I can ascertain all the necessary software to root my i9000
Thanks in advance,
Obi~
P.S. Please can a mod edit my title - 1st Time Rooter Help Please
Answer to question 1. Rooting your device will allow you to download an app called Eris Market Fix which will allow you to run the Market in your region of the world however, if you dont have the market already you will need to search for the .apk file from someone here at XDA to get it. If you do have the market already but just cant buy paid apps then that is ok cause the Eris Market Fix app is free.
Answer to question 2. No... Rooting is not quite like jailbreaking the iphone and it will not allow you to get paid apps from the market for free. Also - Pirating software is NOT tolerated here on XDA so I would not even discuss it again for sake of not getting yourself banned from the site.
What it MAY do is provide you with the ability to download "non-market" apps if you dont already have the ability to do so.
Answer to question 3. Check the Galaxy S Android Development forum for the z4root app. This is the easiest and fastest way to root. Be advised that it will not work on some firmwares however.
Thanks for the feedback
Was unawares of the Piracy issue, wont happen again.
As I said I am happy to pay, as soon as I get the pay market
No problem... Good luck... And happy Market Shopping when you get it all worked out!!!

ok first... hi,
again i know it is not appropriate and i hope that i'm not bothering Firerat.
well, i have a little problem.
i have a g1 which runs great and everything.
my fiancée saw my phone and she really got interested in it specially the market feature and she wanted one.
so i bought her a htc legend which sent her over the moon.
after starting it for the first time and after completing the setup she ran to menu looking for the market to get some games and guess what there is no market anywhere to be found and she stated crying "women" and i really don't know what to do as she refuse to root her phone or miss with it's stock status.
so i'll really appreciate it of u help me, telling me what to do. can i like acquire a market apk of any other phone and flash it through fast boot if possible or what...please help
yours
adham
p.s. i live in egypt and that's where i bought the phone "from a vodafone retail store"
This should NOT be directed at a specific user.
This is a very general question that ANYONE can answer.
The answer is this:
YOU have root access on YOUR phone, so download games or whatever from there and copy the apk off of it and install to hers.
Hi Guru's.

Unfortunately I am also not so great with this but will explain some terms as best I can...(I'm also a noob)
APK: Is the term used for applications on the Android Operating System.
Root: Is a term that describes unlocking your phone's true potential. This is accomplished because normally the Android OS has certain permissions unlocked for the user and other super permissions locked. This defines what the unrooted OS will let you do to the device without harming it. Rooting basically unlocks those hidden(super) permissions allowing you to do much more to the software and hardware like overclocking your CPU to make it faster... umm also allows you to do things like backup applications or extract them and on some devices play around or look through the device's scripts and system files. Ask the community about rooting as they can probably explain it better than I can. Sorry!
Sadly about the Market, it is not fully unlocked in all countries and I think you need special licensing to access certain apps or apks on the market. As for your Silvania I would recommend going to Androidtablets.net and search for your device. There is a mini community there for your tablet, maybe you can get more help there.
this tablet become truly enjoyable once you have the real Marketplace on it.
I put together a walk through that takes you through all the steps necessary to get it installed and working on your tablet here.
I take zero credit for any of the work that went into getting it working. I mainly made the page as a reference for myself in-case i need to do it again.
If you hit a snag let me know and i'll do what i can to help.
just as a note i also have the gingerbread keyboard and live wallpapers working on mine. i'll see how my market guide is received before i put together anything about putting these others on our tablet.
I just wondered if all the apps I downloaded, paid and free, will be in some sort of list associated to my accounts through the market place and Amazon app store. I know I need to back up some things within the apps themselves, and I'm prepping to do this. Sprint advised me to do this because the firmware and prl/profile updates were having "Unknown errors" and weren't pushing through. Personally I don't want to HR, but it's whatever.. I just would like to know before I decide to if I have to worry about writing all the apps down or something I've gotten over the time. Sorry to re-post if there has been something on this before, but Google didn't help me much.
Also, while I'm at it, I've been trying to root, and have been unsuccessful with it. I used z4root, and it would fail trying to acquire root, or something like that, but I used a root checker and it told me that busybox was install correctly, but root was not. Either way I was looking into another that has something to do with Keis and that kind of confused me.. Not sure on what one I need.
Anyways, thanks to anyone that could help.
The apps you've paid would be on a list with tag "purchased". Which means you can get them easily and without repay them. But those free apps will not be on any sort of list. Sorry I don't know about amazon for I never used any amazon apps.
Ps: these are my own expirence(sorry about bad spelling)

Sync your apps using AppBrain, and you will be able to keep a list of all your free apps too. Note that usually, after I've sync'd, I copy the AppBrain list using the website to a backup, just in case the list ends up getting wiped when you reconnect your device.

Dave
Thanks guys for the tips. Anyone know anything about Amazon App Store? I know I get reciepts from the store for everything I get on there, free or App of the Day, or paid. So, I assume that they all would be associated to it somehow.
Well I did a little looking on Amazon.com and to just let anyone know that is wondering, everything I got is linked to my account in a 'purchased' area. So, I'm hoping it all stays. I'll keep you guys posted after my HR.
Sorry for the wait, but I wasn't able to reply before.. Something to do with here.. I dunno, but the code sprint gave me wasn't a HR, so... I can't answer it for anyone nor myself. =\ Sorry guys.
Hi XDA,
Before I put my query here, I must say this is a Kick-ass site I have come across in the recent years . From the Noods video to the 'Similar threads' feature that I see when I am about the write this post. Cool stuff and during my 2 hours reading threads, I see Dr.K is the most awesome and patient guy in this forum. Keep up the good work, I guess I will do my part from today too
Now coming to the point...
I am confused if I have to root my phone. I am actually very happy with my phone and its feature except for the fact that I get annoyed whenever I run out of credits while playing games like Contract Killer, Gun Bros etc on my mobile. When I Googled, I came across a few tricks which requires access to the root.
Now I need a little help here to convince myself to root my mobile. Please guys I did read a lot of forums but my only reason to root is for games. Should I or should I not.
btw my Kernel version ends with LB2.
Please advice

So my dumbass decided to check out if the latest version of the note 5 could run Freedom to hack in-store purchases... turns out since there isn't a built for the latest version I have a broken app that was grant changes by me. Again... I was an idiot. The problem is the app will crash when it opens no matter what and after figuring I can't reach the playstore to download anything I looked for solutions to reconnect back into the app. I re-downloaded Freedom... and the problem still was there.. I am told to tap on "stop" but the damn program won't let the stop it, because in 2 seconds Freedom will crash. So basically I'm ****ed... if anyone is about to try this: please don't you'll break your playstore.. hopefully not permanently.. my best bet is waiting until they Tallassee the 6.0.1+ update for the damn program. If anyone has a solution to this and help me have access again to my playstore please please... I'll love to try your suggestions.. it was an honest mistake and hopefully no one does what I did and if you or someone else can help us out that would be amazing! -thanks
