Has anyone else got a home dock and is having problems getting it to output video?
I have 4 mpeg-4 files that work on the standard player brilliantly, but if I ask it to output via HDMI, the monitor/ TV stays blank although the video no longer shows on the Streak screen.
As the Streak asks me if I want to Switch to HMDI I presume it knows there is a connection... plus on both my monitor (using an HMDI to DVI cable) and TV (HDMI to HDMI cable) the monitor/ TV doesn't go into standby, which it would if there was no signal being received. If I take the HMDI cable out of the dock, the monitor says no signal being received but plugging it back in doesn't make it show the video that's playing...
I know it can work as in between all the failures, just once I have had the video playing on my monitor through the cable as expected (I did nothing different but can't make it do it again)
Am I missing something obvious to make it work?
All the other functions seem to work fine - though I was surprised that if you plug in speakers (or headphones) sound still comes out of the Streak. Is it meant to?!
Mine should be here tomorrow so will let you know then
I've still had no joy with the dock... Tried all sorts of file types and conversions but nothing works. The Streak registers the HDMI cable is inserted, asks me if I want to output, if I say yes, the vid disappears from the Streak screen but the other end never gets it apparently.
I phoned Dell who, after 20 minutes of really lame questions - had I plugged the cable in... - and being put on hold, told me to take the phone back to O2 and ask for another . As my Streak is over 28 days old I'll be Streak-less for at least 10 days.
And then if the problem is with the dock not the Streak?!!
Any other home dock users out there, got any suggestions?
Sorry if this is too obvious, but have you tried a different hdmi cable? My dock works fine but I' ve had a similar problem with a htpc.

My dock is working fine
I have tried three different HDMI cables, although through the same TV as we only have one with HDMI. I also tried an HDMI to DVI to my monitor which also doesn't work.
Dell think it might be the Streak, O2 think the dock... Neither want responsibility!

Well, this may be something to consider:
Are you sure that the DVI monitor you are connecting is able to decode HDCP signals?
The HDMI output of the Streak may be HDCP encoded, and though the monitor might see the connected input, it may not be able to decode it. Your source files may not be HDCP encoded, but the output channel (your Dell Streak Dock) probably is. Have you tried to output your dock in a different system? An HDMI-equipped TV perhaps?
See here:
http://tv.about.com/od/hdtv/a/hdmidvihdcp.htm
and here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High-bandwidth_Digital_Content_Protection
PS.
After reading your post again Iss that you have tried in two different devices, and they both fail... there are region locks in the HDCP interface as well, so you may have incompatible outputs on the digital side.
I would still try more combinations (or even ROM builds) before I rule out the issue as being your Streak and/or your dock.
Do you have anyone with another Streak/Dock/Monitor to rule out all possibilities?
It is sad that we have to go through that mess at times, but there are lots of digital devices, that make the 'Plug and Play' , 'Plug and Pray' Sadly :$
Thanks for the comprehensive reply vagelis (which by the way comes out as "bagels" using Swype!)
I don't have access to any other DVI or Hdmi screens - I'm sure my other half is taking it as a sure sign we should buy a new tv!
Dell have, thankfully, agreed to replace my dock so hopefully tomorrow I can feel not quite so stupid when/if it works or not!
Perhaps O2 may have even released the promised 2.1 update & really make my day!

Just bought the dock thing and tried to put it to work with the HDMI out on a philips HD tv, and it happens that there is no audio at all. I know the analog speakers are disabled when the HDMI is working, the audio provided by the HDMI is really not working.
I have no clue of what is happenning. I am getting just the image fom the tab but no audio at all.
I hope someone knows what is going on and help me.
I'd really appreciate the help.
tks.
Hi. The problem seems to be application dependent. When I use RockPlayer and VitalPlayer digotal audio is there through a docking station. Other players including stock one output just analog audio. Regards. K

Tks mate but when I used the rock player I am still getting no sound at all. Its not just the rock player but even the native one or any music player. The sound isn't passing through the hdmi cable.

I will conect the tab to the TV set in few minutes to double check my findings once more. Btw I use the latest firmware MCD. Regards K

Actually, I can now confirm that I have digital audio output from the docking station with any of the mwdia players including the stock one. When initially started, all the players mute the audio when the tab is in the station. Pls volume up through hardware keys and you will have the audio output. Regards K

The volume is up when plugin to the dock and yet I get no sound changed the volume up and down but no answer. Have two Philips televisions and different models here and on both I get the same issue, no digital sound. The analog sound is fine when plugin the av cables. Now I wonder if the hdmi cable isn't working or is the tv that doesn't like the dock.

Can you post the details of the cable including it's version number. It may be you have an incorrect cable.
About the cable: e324540 awm style 20276 80°c 30v vw-1 hdmi 1.3 cable hentek.

I bought the dock to connect the tab to my projector and I found out that when the hdmi is in use all the audio will go to the hdmi cable.
Now my projector has very poor speakers and no audio out. I really hate that I can't use my Bluetooth speakers when using the dock.
There is some way to split the hdmi signal in video and analog audio?

Still have video and no sound
So, I still have the problem. I have the dock connected to power from the supplied (5v 2a) adapter. I then connect it to my tv. Video works great. I also speculated that maybe I had to use the 3.5mm jack for sound but that isn't working either.
I also have an adapter for rca-out and that's working fine, but I'd rather have the better quality available to me via HDMI.
I've got no solution yet. As I did, put here your the specs of your cable, maybe its something about that cable tho.

hdmi cable info
So, it's still not working for me. I don't have the box the other cable came in so today I went out and got a new one. I now have one of these:
http://www.digitalwarehouse.nl/hdmi-kabel-type-a-type-c-mini-2m.html
It is a type-A <-> type-C high speed HDMI Cable. I told the guy when I bought it that it had to be v 1.3 and he said it was though I don't see that on the box any where. I know for sure that my original cable was a v 1.3 because I remember reading that on the box when I bought it.... The only other info I see on the packaging is this:
Transfer rate: 10,2 Gbit/s
BandWidth 340 MHz
ARC audio return channel
My problem persists and to eliminate other potential causes, I've now tried it on another TV as well: no dice
It could very well be the cable. I have had some HDMI cables not output sound from DVD players. Here is the cable I bought and it outputs everything, sound, video the works.

Having my tab on my TV rocks
right cable
Well, I live in sweden. Ordering from Amazon is not ideal for me. Is there any other way I can get an indication that it might be the cable? I am loathe to keep buying cables assuming that it's the issue... I mean, is there something on the cable itself that I can look for? Certains pins or something?
/geir
I dont know that much about HDMI cables, does kinda seem pointless to keep buying cables.
Possibly google it? I would say try it on something else, however nothing else you own probably need A to C hdmi connection.
All I know is thats the cable I bought and it works perfect for me on my 4 year old projection LCD
Tested the cable with something else...
Ok, so my daughter has a camcorder which will take a mini hdmi cable. I just tested both cables with her camcorder and both of them give me video and sound...
If the cable is the issue it's definitely not because it isn't at all capable of handling audio
Any chance anyone has any other ideas? I just have this feeling there is something else going on... Like maybe I need to flash to a new version or something.
I have a european tab, in case that matters.
Hi to all
Has anyone tried the above?
Connecting the dock's HDMI to TV watch the picture in tv and try at this moment if speakers line out 3,5 jack had audio output signal? or it has no output and the sound is only going through the HDMI cable?
If anyone please has the dock, check this and give me the results.
Thanks in advance
The best conection for playing back Galaxy TAB video, picture and music files was,
GT with it USB cable on Mass Storage connection + TV with USB port & media play function.
The benefits from this conection was,
1. Single cable connection.
2. Only need connect GT to TV USB port, so less works & movements retriction between TV, couch/bed, power socket.
3. TV not only playback GT files but also provide power charging to GT. fter playback 1 hour of Full HD video, my GT battery power now up to 71% from initial around 50%+ (can't remeber the exact number).
4. Able to move around GT directory & playback files using one TV remote control. That's saving troubles of using 2 devices, GT screen + TV remote.
The thing is not a TV with USB, I have not a USB TV, I had used the dock in my Toshiba connected with HDMI cable and I have perfect video but NO SOUND at all, I had not found a solution yet, I had tried with several HDMI cables, still no sound.
I cannot find any settings for the HDMI, in the Tab.
Has anyone has any solution?
I had read that a lot of Galaxy Tab owners had HDMI sound problems.
The bad thing is when the TAB sees the HDMI connection mutes the sound in the tab and drives it through the HDMI cable.
The 3.5 Jack audio out in the back of the dock has no sound, when HDMI is connected
Any solution??

that's a really good question and makes a lot of sense. for the 2nd poster, I think almost all of us do not have usb inputs on our tvs. lucky you though
if the hdmi out sends pic + audio but the audio out is still available in the 1/8" adapter or another method then it would be really good.
would be amazing if the tab had digital audio out through a standards compliant consumer digital audio cable (rca or fibre) though
oh well, I'm dreaming right now.
Hi,
I just received an OEM Micro USB to HDMI adapter today.
I connected my Note to the adapter and then to the HDMI cable of my TV.
Unfortunately there is no HDMI signal on the TV side.
Now, I don't know howto activate TV output on the Note. I don't even know if that's possible.
Can anyone guide me on how to activate HDMI output on the Galaxy Note ?
Should I make any settings ?
Should I play a video ? (or would it give out video from HDMI even at home screen ?)
Should I power the phone and/or the HDMI adapter through USB ?
Thanks.

Connect HDMI cable to MHL adapter, and other end into TV. (duh...)
Plug your charger cable into the MHL adapter. (output won't work without this)
Plug your MHL adapter into Note. (no configuring required!)
Everything you do on your Note will be mirrored on your TV/Screen, at the Note's native 1280x800 resolution. Plain and simple!
Video's that are played via the MHL adapter will be played at their own native resolution, up to and including 1080p.
Enjoy!
thank you.
it doesn't work unfortunately.
maybe my adapter is not working but it passes power through USB.
how can I understand if it really doesn't pass HDMI ?

It's possible that you have a faulty adapter. It should just be plug and play, but you have to make sure that the adapter is receiving external USB power in order for it to work.
ok; it works now.
the micro USB connector was not fully connected...
thanks.
Similar issue
Hi, me to facing similar issue. The MHL adapter when connected does not show any notification on the screen. The only thing it does is charging the phone. Does it mean its a faulty adapter?
i hope i am answering my own question but still if there is anything which i may be missing here

and what rom and kernel are you on ?
I'm on stock running ICS and I get funky results, sometimes it works for a minute or two sometimes just a few seconds. The problem seems to be on the TV, a Sony Bravia, the HDMI setting has to be Wide for picture quality (it has zoom, smart zoom, wide, 16:9 and 4:3) but as soon as there is some glitch in receiving data from the phone the TV begins to scroll through those settings to regain a signal and I can't force a setting on wide for the HDMI connector, only for one of the SCART connectors.
The frustrating part is that it works flawlessly when I connect an Asus Transformer. Could it be the MHL's USB connector? If that is the case how can I check it?

Just in case anyone relooks this up.
Connect everything. Then REBOOT PHONE/NOTE. The TV will then detect it auto.
Hope this helps someone !!
It didnt help me... my sony bravia 32" tv just wont show the gnote's video. the same adapter works fine on my samsung 32" tv but not on the sony. I have even upgarded the sony tv's firmware too. tried changing to "Wide Zoom" settings and other things but still no video showing, although the tv does know there is something plugged in to HDMI port 1.

lol, just don't try that any sony device to work together with another samsung device, this is a general rule for electronic trademarks.
*Frankly my friend, I lost a complete day trying my sony ericcson bt handset to work with my note, no success at all, so, I just bought a samsung one and everything gone well.
that sux, bluetooth is a standard and im sure there are no variants... they are cheap, so i will buy another one from ebay and see if it is bcos of the adpater and not the TV.

This did help me using a Galaxy Note and a cheap no-name MHL adapter I bought of eBay. Had it connected to the HDMI input on my Dell WFP3008 monitor.
mhl n7000 camera not starting when connected
hi sorry for posting after 4 years on this thread. is the camera or camera using apps (like skype) working for anyone when the phone is coonected and displaying through mhl to tv? because whenever i try to use camera when i am connected it is not working. on stock 4.1.2. thank you
I'm hacking a portable USB keyboard (from HP iPaq) to work on my note and planning on including USB hub, battery power pack, USB port for flash drive.
I'm also planning on adding HDMI out. I'll either include a switch to go between USB (keyboard etc) and video only or if I can have everything then this will become my "turn Note into a computer" all in one solution when plugged into HDMI monitor/television.
All the pins are there. But I don't know if MHL and USB can be used at the same time. Anyone know or do I have to try it and see what happens?
Blowing up my Note USB chip would not make my day! LOL

Sorry to rain on your ideas for the second time but not possible. Even if the logic were there to somehow implement both modes, there just is not enough bandwidth on those wires. You only have two twisted pairs and 1080P needs almost all that bandwidth to push enough ones and zeros to fill the screen at 25-30fps.
Your best bet for satisfying that fantasy is bluetooth keyboard and mouse. Think I saw a youtube video yesterday of a guy playing a game through MHL out while controlling through a bluetooth keyboard.
They are mutually exclusive connections at the hardware level, so no software mod can make this possible.
Bluetooth keyboard and mouse are great - check out my youtube channel "AndroidNZ" for a demo on MHL and various uses.
I was already impressed a while back by your video showing MHL video and so I went and bought a connector of my own on ebay
My main focus is to make a little do it all dock for sitting having lunch in a cafe. All built into a wired HP iPaq keyboard. I currently have a Dell Axim bluetooth keyboard and Logitech bluetooth mouse, but they aren't as smooth as I'd like. But the mouse is probably only useful when using a big screen.
So hardware hacking time!
But even if I can't do both, it will be nice to have my phone sitting next to the television with only a short HDMI lead and the phone doesn't flop around because of the stiffness of said HDMI cable as it does currently with my existing octopus setup of leads.
So it will have two modes.
Video mode where the keyboard only acts as a stand, battery pack and video port.
Cafe mode where I have keyboard with stand, USB flash drive, battery pack and USB.
All in a 15cm x 10cm x 2.5cm tidy expanding package :-D
Maybe when the Note 2 comes out with USB 3 we might be able to have both video and USB
oops, duplicate
MHL + OTG Multimedia dock is now available!
Heres the answer to your mhl + otg problem guys but a bit costly!
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Original-Sa...axy-Note-2-N7100-EDD-S20EWEGSTD-/230889526839
who can read is in advantage
this dock station is for the note II and not for the note I.
The pinout is different.
but 1 solution could be plugging in otg then usb hub then the micro usb female to usb A then the Mhl adaptor and the other connector of the hub with the mouse and the keyboard
http://de.focalprice.com/CA0352B/USB_A_Male_to_Micro_USB_Female_Adapter_Black.html
but finally i think it won´t work because there is not enoug voltage and power to get all devices so u need an external power supplier for the hub or an battery connect with the hub. try it out and tell us of your experience
