All the pictures I try to use have to be cropped like crazy and come out all pixelated, including the ones it came with. Any ideas?
Get Best Wallpapers by Swiss Codemonkeys. Its free in the market. Good selection.
I don't think it's the image, since they are very high quality. It's like they get downsampled or cropped to a tiny section.

It's a known problem when using non-stock launchers.
I believe there was a workaround, but I do not recall what it was.
Don't set the wp from the gallery. Long press on the home screen and select a 1280x1024 image. At least that fixed it for me.
Use the free app -
Wallpaper Set and Save
Your nice resolution will be preserved.

Interesting, gonna try it...
I think the reason we have the issue with the wallpaper is that what ever we use to crop is meant for use on smaller screens at a different rez.
Another theory I have is that the system is really at that other rez 800x480 then it's "upscaled" to 1024x800 (don't quote my numbers, but it's the general idea).

Glad it wasn't just me!
Ya know, maybe a "Tips & Tricks" thread is in order to keep track of all these little things that keep popping up.

If you are using the regular Gallery app, there is an alternate way to do this:
Gallery
select picture
Select "menu" button (at the bottom - tap if it isn't there)
hit the "more" button
select "set as"
Select to use "Wallpaper" if "Set picture as" comes up (it will have the app source name as com.cooliris.com)
Drag the border by the corner to cover the entire frame
save
exit home

I got these apk's from several different places, mostly from OpenEclair rom so shoutout to that team. They all install and open and there are FC's here and there. enough talk, let's see what does and doesnt work then
GenieWidget.apk
gallery_flan.apk
Music.apk
DeskClock.apk
CarDock.apk
http://bit.ly/9eJm9u
Problem I have with the music app is the fact when I lock it, I dont have the convenient play/pause, forward, and back button on the lock screen.
Gallery is great but don't put it in landscape mode! All you get is a distorted image when you do so not that bad (I'm guessing it's a screen size issue?). It did force close when using the camera button tho.
Gallery is pretty sweet, a little slow at first, but for sure an improvement over the stock gallery.
Gallery FC's on me consistently. It asks for permission for the google account.. I hit allow and it FC.
If you guys have anymore apk's let me know and I'll add them to the list
Does anyone else get a FC in the Desk clock when they press the settings button? I get it in LS and PT.

Mine works in both landscape mode and vertical mode. You just have to have it orientated that way when you start it up. If you move it from one or the other, you get the distortion.

Just picked up one of these beauties (truely samsung paid attention to the iPad), aside from the annoying lack of a micosd slot (and touchwiz, really has no dev wanted to make a touchwizless rom? haha)
Can one remove the screen shot button from the launcher? frequently when I type or go to used the "recent list" I accidentally hit it, I must have 20 screen shots in less than 24hrs!
thanks!
Bump. I wish they could have given you the option to disable it.
Still waiting for a dolution to this myself. Tried launcher replacements like adw ex or launcher pro but nothing
Ok if you freeze com.sec.android.screencapture (search for screen in case i spelled it wrong) in TitaniumBackup it disables it, however the icon will remain.
Not perfect but a workable solution until cm9 arrives for us!

Thanks Ill try this. I don't mind the button but a screen shot out of context can make for an embarrassing moment. Especially when your girlfriend picks up the tablet.

That is true because I turned it off on my 8.9 LTE but damn if I can remember how I did it.
Currently Skyrocketing into Android Space!
none that I've seen under "screen", I am on a custom rom, Overcome
You can freeze it with Titanium Backup. The button remains but is inert, so you're not taking random screen shots willy nilly.
I think the Tab Plus has the functionality to disable/remap that button, it's not on my 8.9 LTE or 10.1 WiFi.
Yes I mentioned that fix earlier, strange they have it in the tab +. maybe we can port it over.
There is a setting in the display area. I changed mine to an apps key. So it now does the same as the apps icon in the top right corner.
Took me a while to figure it out but under settings go to screen and configure the Quick Launch settings.

Downside, I also got all the AT&T bloatware, and an older version of Market.

For Android 4,go to settings, select display, then select quick launch and then select the desired option. You can replace the screen capture button with something else or just remove it.
I am really confused. I just downloaded an image in 1080x1920 which I want to set as my wallpaper.
I can display it in gallery and it appears as I would expect, filling the screen perfectly. However when I try to set it as wallpaper in settings, my One wants to crop the thing.
Any ideas why? My googling is failing me, just keep finding stuff saying get images in 1080x1920 which I've done.
Beamed in from my HTC One.
The way I do it mate is find an empty space on your home screen the press and hold until a menu pops up then click choose wallpaper then choose gallery and that will let you choose how much to crop or just play with the selection tool so it doesn't crop anything

I can't seem to properly apply a wallpaper with Google Now Launcher. Every time I do, it basically shifts the whole thing to the right, almost as if it's centering it on the right border. I only use 1 home screen (plus the Google now cards screen to the left) so it just doesn't look right like that. Using something like ES file Explorer kind of helps because you can manipulate a bit how to line it up, but it seems imperfect and time consuming. I'd love to just be able to apply them from something like ZEDGE. Anyone have any suggestions?

The solution I came up with was to go into the app drawer and drag an icon to a separate home screen and then drag another icon to another screen (making 3 screens plus Google now). Apply the wallpaper and then remove the extra two shortcuts to go back to one screen.

This seems to work better than any other solution I've tried. Thanks for the heads up. Not quite perfect but easily better than doing the "guess and check" method of manually lining things up. What an annoyance though, right? It's a wallpaper, it shouldn't be this complicated.

I know... I just started using Google Now Launcher again after using Nova forever, because I like having Google Now to the left of the home screen and I've really started using a more minimal desktop with just one screen. It seems to me that Google of all development crews out there would know about this and fix it. It's a minor annoyance. But an annoyance nonetheless. If anyone else has any other possible solutions, I would love to hear them as well.

I've very strongly considered going over to Nova, except like you, I really like having the Now cards to the left and I'm just not willing to give them up. The only other method I found that semi works, I found an app on the playstore called Image 2 Wallpaper
Does what it sounds like, but there's a little bit of "playing around" you can do with lining things up. The way I've found it to at least sort of do what I want is to tap pick image from gallery, pick the image, down in the bottom half where there are options swipe over to the "Align" section, and hit "Move Left". Then hit the little green icon to the right of the preview to "set" it. Again it's not perfect but it's another option to add to the toolbox of methods I guess. I think yours seems to be a little more accurate, and much quicker though.
This is probably not the best solution for you, but thought I would mention that Action Launcher 3 also has the "swipe left for Google Now" functionality and it handles wallpaper much better. It has a lot of other neat features too, although it's not free. There is a free trial version though that might work for your purposes.

That's interesting... I've used Action Launcher 2 a long time ago but never got into it a whole lot. Does it have Google Now to the left in the exact same way that Google Now Launcher does, or is it more like "a swipe right gesture opens Google Now"?

It's pretty close. The only thing that's missing is the animation when you swipe back to the home screen, IIRC. The developer said that's because of a limitation in the API. It does animate when swiping into Google Now though.

I'm definitely intrigued. I just downloaded it, but swiping to the side just brings up what kind of appears to be a sort of quick app drawer thing. How do you enable the google now cards screen?
It's been awhile since I've used it, but there should be a way to turn it on in the settings. That other thing is called the QuickDrawer which you might need to move to the other side.
[edit]
Found it -- go to Shortcuts under Settings, then Swipe Horizontal, and change Leftmost Home Screen to Search (Google Now).
One thing I don't like is how it automatically opens the keyboard for the search bar. The Google Now Launcher's implementation is much better. If only someone could combine that with Nova Prime's features, I could die happy.

Thanks for the update/edit. I was actually in there earlier but was specifically looking for Google Now instead of Search. I definitely see what you mean regarding the keyboard. It's soooo close. If they could just kill the automatic kb popup it'd be pretty perfect. I'm going to play with it a bit. It definitely feels fluid. And I like the idea of being able to properly theme and whatnot (one of the things I missed from homescreen replacements like Nova). If I like it enough I have enough in my play account from surveys to buy the full version. So far I'm digging it though, thanks again for the recommendation.

Cool, let me know if you discover any good tweaks!
Got this from Sakitech on Youtube... A big thankyou to his show...
Go to stock Gallery app, Hit the 3 dots on the right hand side (around the middle of the screen) to bring out the menu.
Go to Settings>About Gallery.
On the word "version" under the Gallery heading tap 8 times, It should show a count down, to activate Gallery Labs.
Go back to menu and at bottom you should now have Gallery Labs with a whole heap more options including some UI 2.5 options...
Enjoy....
thanks a lot it works

No problem, thought it might be of interest, haven't seen anything about it on the forum...
Also supposed to be able to get photo editor labs when you take a live focus photo, go to the gallery, pick the live focus photo then edit to go into photo editor. You then hold the sticker icon for at least 5 seconds and the photo editor labs comes up with the option to change the depth view of the sticker.
Did work for me with an older version of photo editor but did a factory reset and I'll be buggered if I can get it to work again...
Was a great feature... Hopefully it will make it into the photo editor in a future update...
