How can I brick my phone?! - Off-topic

Long story short.
Phone is broken, wont let me revert to stock, So I have no warranty.
I need it fixed, but dont have any money.
So I need to find a way to make the phone never turn on again, without warrenty voiding damage. That way they I can act all dumb on the phone 'Ohh it wont turn on at all! I just woke up this morning and it was like that! '
Is it possible?! Im thinking microwave?
(sorry, I just realised the general section was probably better feel free to help anyway though!)

Your phone? I hear there are lots of different phones, and apparently they all work differently... *hint, hint*
EDIT: A microwave?! "So yeah, I woke up this morning, and my phone was on fire" *gestures to charred lump of plastic*

when you say "so no warrenty"?
do you have a warranty?
if so just take it back and act like you did nothing wrong

Microwave sounds interesting just make sure you dont damage your microwave. You would be stuck with no phone and no food...

If its android remove / (Everything )
I think this can be acomplished by in terminal use
su
rm /
It should remove every thing and your phone will break I'd test it but...
Or use adb

Care to explain a little more?
I was thinking a microwave, because it will blow resistors fairly easily, without leaving much of a mark! Only for a few seconds of course!

I do have warranty.
But the phone has HSPL on it. Which I cant get rid of because its broken!
They will more than likely check to see if its still stock at the repair centre, see the hack and refuse to fix it :/

Agreed...
So.. the only legal way to fix this though would be to use the hammer above
Edit: Or put it to good use here

is there hardware actual broke? or just wont boot past bootloader?
search for the TASK-29 tool... will wipe your phone and might actually let you flash a rom successfully...
its been a long time since ive used WinMo, but that tool was very helpful

No, it wasn't because of any of that. I have never had an issue with any kind of a flash or app or any of that. I always point people twoards GSLEON3 that are looking for help with mtty. My issue is not based on any flash or anything like that. My issue is based on my lack of attention to detail. I dropped my phone in a container of fresh oil and didnt recognize the problem for about an hour or so. Needless to say I have a real pretty "LAVA LAMP" phone.

root before jailbreak?

hey i got a g1 and um im going to try to follow a rot video which lets me know to put in a flashrec.apk and a recovery image...so back up then apply imgage??? but one question....do i need to jailbreak my phone before i do the root process????
oh yeh coming from a cupcake build....
Dude go to androidandme.com under hacks and reconsider rooting till you know more.
no such thing as jailbreaking an android device. Thats for Apple only thing, Android doesnt limit you from doing what the device was made to do, only need to root to gain extra functionality.
I agree though, you sounds ill-informed of the risks and consequences of rooting your phone. Do some research, consider how you would feel w/ your G1 being as useful as a 'brick', and make an informed decision.....
please sorry for asking but can you guys help
okay this is what ive done...i use the flash rec apk and then backup and applied the ra recovery img. now i can go to the recovery mode...can i apply any rom not knowing the spl?...also one last question.... if i need to unroot do i do this by appliying the dreamin.img by pressing the end and camera then apply and this should unroot it right????

You're obviously not required to do 'anything.'
But if you wanted your problem quickly solved you could come into irc at an appropriate time ( not right now ) and talk to someone directly. ( It's really hard to find problems, document them and solve them just by looking at a logcat you took. )

The icon doesnt even show up in the notification bar nor does the button work but i hear static distortion at the moment when i plug in. Ive also got HTC_IME set to audio clicks and each time i type i can hear the same distortion. Cant Logcat via ADB with usb hooked in. Thinking about sending back to T-Mo for replacement but dont wanna go thru the hassle of re-rooting and such
Edit: tried logcat in terminal then plugged in adapter. Nothing. Dont even know if something is supposed to show.

Well, if you are completely technologically illiterate, then paying $35 dollars is nothing compared to paying $500 to replace your device if you ruin it. Don't you agree?

There is alot of reasons people would want their phone rooted even if they didn't know how to do it. Remove bloatware, speed up the UI, use incompatible apps...and alot more.
I do agree that you should do it yourself to know how to fix it if something goes wrong, but when it comes down to it, it is their phone and they can do with it as they please.
The same could be said for basically anything though. If you can't change your own oil, should you be driving a car?

I agree with this. I cant root my phone (on my own). But I followed someone elses guide & was succesful. My GF has a wildfire S, & has constant problems with lack of memory. She cant root, or even follow a guide, but it needs doing to make the phone usable.
Guess it's a service they are providing but consumers might as well go on YouTube or Google and save yourselves $30. God knows how their software works. Good luck to them trying to explain to someone on how to unlock the HTC One X for example with their software.

Lol you should explain to them that that's not how It works!
Rooting a phone Is a joke IMO, Who would pay $35? I mean If It were flashing ROM's and what not then I somewhat understand that as that's where the brick can happen but can you really brick doing a simple root that takes less then 5 minutes?

Umm no. You have far more of a chance bricking your phone during the root process than flashing a ROM. Rooting can involve unlocking bootloaders, changing bootloaders, using unsecure boot images, flashing unsecure kernels...all of which can brick a phone...even if doen correctly. Flashing a ROM, 99.99999% of the time will not brick your phone.
I think this is only for very noobs
