which ROM matches this description - Captivate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I love ROMS. I have become a flash addict. Cognition and AXURA rock. So many I haven't tried. Can I get some advise?
Which ROM best matches these qualities?
Basics:
Off-Peak and On-Peak Scheduled for checking Exchange email
Customizable buttons on bottom, preferably 4 (the ones that are constant across all screens)
GPS works
No bloatware
FAST
Good Battery life
No desire to overclock
Bonuses:
Media Mode USB connection works (allows syncing of Amazon On Demand movies)
Thanks in advance for the info.

ive had great luck with [ROM][Froyo] eSPyeL's ROM Beta3.4.1 and its close to what ur asking for.

highly recommend chronos

Audio Out
Forgot one - A biggie
I want for the audio of a call to go out when a standard headphone is plugged into the audio jack.
Neither Cognition nor Auxra do that, and that's how I typically talk on my phone when driving... using the truck speakers for hearing the call and talking into the phone while it sits on the console.

developer.android.com/resources/articles/zipalign.html - Tool used by developers to optimize the .apk's inside a ROM?
deodex
De-odex: Apk files have respective odexes that devs use to supposedly save space. Deodexing means you convert it back to a .dex file and put it back inside the apk. This allows you to easily replace files (not having to worry about odexes), but the main point was to deodex services.jar so that you can change all text to different colors (such as the clock color to white) and to deodex services.jar, you need to deodex everything.

You can also try Assonance. I'm an Axura fan as well but I'm now using this rom.
My gps is working great with it, the best I've seen in the 5 roms I've tried. Fast and it is the first time NDRIVE showed the actual speed i was going . Coudn't believe my eyes.
Wired headset is working for calls (the one that come with the phone)
Battery life rocks
It fast as hell, though i think its using Setiron's kernel and it is OC. But given that my battery is lasting a lot i don't really care about this point. It just works.
Other than that for the screens you may want to give a try to LauncherPro Plus. I'm using it and it does what you want. You get customizable buttons at the bottom of the screen plus some widgets.

nice idea

I've looked at that one, and I want to try it. Thanks for the info.
However, both of his ROMs are downloadable from multiupload.com and I'm at work right now, and my work blocks that site and most "web storage" sites.
All ROMs appear to now work with headset that came with phone. However, they're not working with a standard headset, which is what I'm looking for. After a good bit of searching, I found that this is a known issue with 2.2. I think I'm going to try to find a solid 2.1 based ROM

Cyanogen 6.1.0 Stable Release

As a sequel to my Cyanogen Nighlies thread, I thought it appropriate to create a celebratory post linking to the stable release of 6.1.0 for the Droid Incredible.
Please reply with your experiences, inquiries, and love for one of the smoothest, rock solid ROMs available for your device. I am also open to ideas about what else to include in this OP including links to themes, juicy nuggets of relevant info, or known issues (should we find any that are repeatable).
For now, please enjoy this excellent release, and kick a few pennies up to Koush. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!
Download link (or just grab it from ROM Manager):
http://mirror.teamdouche.net/?device=inc&type=stable
Known issues:
-Cyanogen default auto brightness adjusts only once, so moving from light to dark results in protracted dim settings.
-While disconnected from the charger, trackball wake will intermittently fail. This is a known bug and has been filed as such.
-Flash Test does not do anything for applications that don't have a customized setting. It should still blink using the systemwide default green when a real event comes in.
Solution Sets/Workarounds:
To install the new Market and avoid FCs:
1) settings-applications-manage and delete cache for the market
2) wipe cache
3) wipe dalvik cache

"Best" is certainly a relative term, however my personal preference for both speed and battery life is invisiblek's AOSP kernel.

Which version do you prefer?
Incredibleks. Best Kernel ever. Seriously, for AOSP Roms, it is the choice. Seriously, overclocking on a snapdragon is pretty pointless. The speed differences are pretty much non-existent.
op link is messed up. you got an emoticon stuck in it
wow.. it took a while but nice to see it make final.. seemed like it was never gonna make it past rc status
I'm on 17 and love it but it appears that different kernels are acting differently on different phones. I was on 18 for a while an noticed that battery life wasn't as great and went back to 17, while other people said that 18 was better than 17 on their phone. Now 19 is out and if you look at the last couple of pages half the posts say that 19 is the best yet for battery and the other half is reporting ridiculous battery loss. You're probably best off getting the most recent one listed on the first post (#18).
Great ROM. I was running the nightly for literally a day only to come back at night and see a stable. This + the Gingerbread theme + Gingerbread Launcher will hold me over until the source drops for GB and we get a port
L.E.D don't work when getting text,mail,etc... other then that runs smooth. Thanx for all the hard work u guys put into these!
One question I have is this: I know how to remove the status bar widgets, but after doing so I'm stuck with that blank space normally occupied by the Verizon Wireless banner. Is there a way to put that back in there so there isn't that gap?
Odd that I want it back I know, but some things I'm just anal about.
Is there anyway to make it so that when you unlock and turn off the screen its instant instead of the fade out effect?

What's wrong with the stock kernel? Invisiblek are very solid but going to give koush's stock kernel a try.
On a side note, does anyone know if the stock kernel has smart ass governor on it?
Optical pad wake
Is anyone else having a problem with the optical pad wake only working once in a while? It always works if the phone is charging but if it isn't charging it's like a 30/70 chance of it working. It seems to work if you hold it down for like 5-10 seconds but that sucks.
Does anyone know how to make it so when I install this ROM all of my apps do not auto reinstall from the market...? My old wallpaper from an AOSP i had like 4 months ago still pops up as default also!
Even if I select "do not backup apps with google" it does not work. I have also tried formatting my SD card, and phone storage to no avail...
I want to install this, but everytime I have installed an AOSP ROM and then a theme, it goes haywire because there is some sort of backup file I can't find.

There's a bug report for this but no one has been able to fix it. I believe it's the trackpad sleeping when not on the charger.
Sometimes a long press and then a short one works.. sometimes it just works.. other times you have to hold it until the screen comes on..
My power button is broken so I live with the press and hold..

[Rom][Port] xXBabiboi228Xx{Manila Carbon Fiber 2.2™} from EVO *UPDATED 1/21*

I'm making this thread to avoid confusion now that there is a working port.
Well just heard back from xxbabiboi228xx and trock79 apparently will be using parts of his rom in the future, but until then.
Here is my port, everything seems to work and I do not intend on maintaining this. Hope this works out for anyone who wants it.
This is a straight port of xxbabiboi228xx's rom! I did not have anything to do with the development of this rom and take no credit for doing so, only for making it work on the inc.
build 1
http://www.multiupload.com/JGRRQM38KZ
build 2
http://www.multiupload.com/8N9XY7CHPN
build 3
http://www.multiupload.com/FWNZYAQB6T
Changlog:
build 2:
Cleaned up the sprint stuff and added the gingerbread keyboard. Htc keyboard still there by default. Also added the htc lock screen back with an optional download for the vanilla lockscreen in the first post. You can try a flash over and it should work, but I recommend a full wipe, quite a bit was changed. Let me know if flash over works out if you try. Trimmed 10mb's off.
build 3:
Updated to new host rom (xxbabiboi228xx' 2.4) Changed battery indicator to vertical green with percentage (gingerbread style). Theme changed a little bit here and there.
Integrated rosie right key setting (internet icon still present after change) and notification toggle widget changer (PowerControl settings)
No more bootloop on first boot (you don't have to wait to see the lockscreen twice anymore)
New clean and simple bootanimation, very nice in my opinion
bugs known:
4g settings and sprint apps are still present
Other than that, nothing else that I know of
I have tested:
browser
phone
mms and sms
wifi
bluetooth
gps
market
camera with flash
camcorder (720)
mail and facebook sync
Just to be clear I do not intend to maintain this rom. If anyone else wants to take over from here, great! Its a really nice looking rom for sure. I only did this because it was requested and I liked the look of it. The rom runs great, check it out!

@synisterwolf: Doesn't say Sprint for me, that is, if you meant the Operator Name/Logo. As br125 mentioned though, the Sprint apps should be present in the ROM. I hope that answers your question?
@Lsdozer: The easy answer to your question is, edit the file called, widget.txt, to your liking.
The file resides in system\customize I believe.
Unfortunately, the tool br125 posted, is only for the Cyanogen ROMs I think. And for the life me, I have been unable to effectively change that text file, using Root Explorer, ES Explorer, and SUManager. People swear that this is the easiest task to take care of, but for me, I have tried it all, when trying to edit from within the phone, and nothing has worked. If you consider editing the file on your computer and push it to your phone, one thing to consider is that I read somewhere that the file has to have a UNIX signature on it, for it to work. This is the reason why I was adamant to try to edit the file, while it was on my phone, well... that and because I have no idea how to push files using ADB or something to my phone... Hope this helps, please let me know if it works for you. If it does, please post what you did, thanks!
On separate notes guys, does anyone know how to restore haptic feedback to the lockscreen, when unlocking? The original ROM came with the Sense the lockscreen, as default, but I believe br125's port defaults to the Vanilla lockscreen.
Other things we can think about is:
1. Figuring out which kernels are working out well on the ROM, since it has now been ported to the Incredible.
2. Maybe getting that Gingerbread keyboard on here ?
Thanks once again to br125, Babiboi, and, trock79 as well!
I will take a look at gettin haptic working for you, i took out the htclockscreen when I ported it and forgot to add it back in. xxbabiboi228xx said that he will be releasing 2.4 tonight most likely and I'll have some free time tomorrow that I could possibly add in his changes/fixes.
As for kernels, any inc. sense kernel will (should) work. ie. incredikernel, heyitslou's kernel etc.
I've flashed Lou's kernel and it works great, I'm currently at 77% and been using it off the charger for about 7 hours or so
edit: the notification toggles shouldn't be hard to get the 4g outta there and add more useful things and I'll put the gingerbread keyboard in there if it works when I take a look at it. Basically I wanna clean up all the sprint leftovers and make it not seem like a port

Sounds great Sir! You are the man !
BTW, I tried getting some of the GB keyboard flashed over into the ROM, from the forum. Maybe it's my luck, but I have never actually gotten a single keyboard flashed successfully through to recovery. Whether it was the EVO or the DInc, same results...
This was no exception of course ...

What do people want from a custom 2.2 ROM?

Hi. After trying Honeystreak 2.0, I fell in love with the 120 screen density. However, I know since some people may not want to upgrade to Honeystreak for some reason or another, or just like Froyo more than Honeycomb, I am working on modding the stock 2.2 ROM to use a lower screen density, giving it more of a tablet feel.
So, I've already lowered the screen density to 120 (I can use 130 or 140 if people prefer) and I am trying a few different launchers (I saw a stock Froyo launcher in an Evo 4G thread, it if looks good, I might use that, to get more of a stock Android experience) because Dell Stage does not look good if you change the density. I might to a couple build.prop edits, to make it feel smoother, and I plan on removing or adding apps (it's already root, so Superuser and Root Explorer will be included.)
If anyone has any requests for apps to add or remove, any advice that might help, or anything else useful, please feel free to tell me.
Also, since this uses the 2.2 kernel, this should be flashable through CWM, which is the main reason I am making it. Basically, it'll be stock Froyo, on the stock kernel, designed to feel more like a tablet.
Since this is more of a discussion than a ROM release, being that it's not out yet, if this would be better in general, mods can feel free to move it
EDIT: So, here are the changes from stock Froyo: Dell Stage has been replaced with Launcher Pro (set to display a 6x6 icon grid), it's pre-rooted and comes with Super User and Root Explorer, the build.prop has been edited for a 130 screen density, less frequent scanning for a wifi network (to save battery), and smoother scrolling and scaling. I want to find a user agent that enables all market apps, and remove some bloatware.
Love launcher pro, if you could theme it like ginger bread that would be awesome too.

I don't think the free verison of LauncherPro is themable, but I can probably install a Gingerbread themed launcher as an alternative.
More a kernel than a ROM thing, but I want tun.ko, and I know some others want CIFS.. I'm really missing using OpenVPN on my DS7, as it's the only way I can sync my Google account at work on wifi without tethering to my phone.

lol. It's Froyo because, unlike DJ_Steve, I am not awesome enough to port anything else. Modding the OS it comes with is alot easier than making a new one
Anyways, I am basically using Build.prop and adding/removing APK's to make it feel more like a tablet. Then, I'm going to create a zip using CWM or something.
I would like it to be fast and swift with no bloat wear and also support for swapper 2

Send dj steve some dr dre beats headset funds and im sure he will let you use his gingerbread and then you can mod it with cwm and change density and maybe add overclocking lol
Try Zeam Launcher. It's pretty simple, but free and you can customise the rows/columns and such to make it more tablet-like.
I'd like to see overclock, black notification bar, and improved battery life. If there's anything that can be done to make Cell Standby not such a hog (way more battery goes to this over my Galaxy Tab), that would be awesome.
Well, as far as improved battery life, for the WiFi version, the cell apk's will be disabled by default, and I did a build.prop edit that scans for open wifi networks less frequesntly, so if WiFi is on but not connected, you drain less battery scanning. I've tried changing the Browser user-agent in build.prop, but when I went to whatismyuseragent or whatever that site is, even though it said I was using Mozilla 5, it still knew it was Android, so I'm looking for a way to better spoof a PC, so mobile sites aren't viewed by default. As far as editing cell standby or overclocking, I might get DJ_Steves Streakdroid 1.3 build, and then apply my changes to that, so you get the overclocking kernel, but that would mean taking away Bluetooth. Also, I'm still trying to figure out how to rip the ROM with clockwork - if I just make a backup, it checks the MD5, so it won't work for someone else.

things to add
A couple of major things to have would be :
1) a modified wpa supplicant file to allow tethering to adhoc (pm me if u need it)
2) any basic file explorer
3) a working overclock
4) vtl launcher - xda flavor
Just a few for thought

There are several features that I am used to on CM7 that I miss daily on my tablet. Primarily, the notification power widget and the ability to swipe to clear notifications. Also, being able to select the rotation angles available would be handy.
Would be nice but might be a bit much: Automatic backlight level adjustments and lockscreen tweaks.

Oh god yes, I am going crazy without it! How do you get rid of a single notification if you dont want to open the app? For example, when downloading updates from the market. I love the ability to swipe swipe swipe, open, swipe. I have never once accidentally dismissed something I didnt want to, so I dont see how it could be even remotely annoying.
For me it seems like the most intuitive solution.

Options: the beauty of Android. I second the swipe to clear a single notification idea.
I wish I could do that. I'm basically just using APK's and build.prop tweaks to get it how I want it. I don't know enough about programming for Android to do anything interesting :-/
Basically, as of now (and untill I figure out how to rip the ROM for public upload) it's a lower screen density, some build.prop tweaks for smoother scrolling and better battery life, running on rooted Froyo. It's pretty basic :-/

[ROM] BakaMod V1 (2.2.1 KD1) - Froyo's Last Stand

BakaMod V1 - Froyo's Last Stand (2.2.1 KD1)
Built on the theory that LESS is MORE. This is a MINIMALIST Rom. It uses the most up to date Froyo base I could find. Why not Ginger? Well... battery.. GPS.. there are reasons to stick with Froyo IF you want reliability, speed and long life.
The battery on this rom is PHENOMENAL!
There will not be any updates to this ROM. I built it as a learning excercise, and while I think it is pretty stable, there are a couple few issues (all documented in this post) that I'm not prepared to deal with. Take it for what you will, if anybody wants to use this to do their own work and fix the issues, feel free, no credit required!
BASE: T959VUVKD1 from the SGS 4G by drhonk
FEATURES:
Removed tons of bloat. Didn't ADD my own bloat.
Accurate Battery Mod
Cianbreadish Status Bar
Simplified Boot Animation
GPS/Speed/Zipalign/Build Prop tweaks
Loopy Smoothness Tweak
No Full Battery Alert
No T-Mobile boot or shutdown sounds/animation.
6 Lockscreen/Power Menu Mod
KB1 Modem - Cuz I got great battery life.
Yes I know what Baka means. I use the term affectionately.
KERNEL: Bali-X 1.2
LAUNCHER: NemusLauncher
GPS
Should work perfectly as do all Froyo ROMs. I got a very quick lock (under 10 seconds) on first boot with this setup, with 10 satellites.
LAUNCHER
I went out on a limb including a relatively unheard of launcher. However, I find it to be a very lightweight and responsive launcher. A little different than you may be used to, it defaults to manual sorting of apps. To change this behaviour, from the app drawer, select Menu->MainMenu Style->Alphabetical, and it will go to vertical scrolling alphabetically.
KNOWN ISSUES
1. Apps2SD - KD1 assumes you want apps on the SDCard, even if the app doesn't prefer that location. Can cause issues. Only apps that explicitely block being installed to SD get installed to Phone Memory.
2. Wifi Calling - Not ported and probably won't be.
3. 4G Icon - I didn't notice it was still in the theme. Rest assured, your phone hasn't been granted magical 4G capability.
4. Locales: I won't be porting these. Looks like a nightmare, and unless this ROM becomes popular (which it won't), there's not much benefit.
5. Camera - It has the FFC button, but I'm not sure if the FFC works without additional hacking. Haven't tried it, I don't have an FFC.
INSTALL
The usual - flash from CWM. If you have issues, WIPE FIRST. Does not require any special boot loaders. Nothing to see here.

NOTE:
I pulled the default Undervolt version. The only difference is it included the config file that you can generate using the Voltage Control app. It also crapped out some phones. I did this rather than a 1.1 release. After what appeared to be stable testing of the 1.1 release with only minor changes, it suddenly went crashy and bootloopy. Probably due to changes in the startup scripts, those things are touchy.
So... consider this the first and last release of BakaMod. Why? Well, there are some issues with KD1 that were never resolved, such as its installing apps to SD Card regardless of app preferences, as well as a few other minor issues that I'm just not prepared to address. As is, it is a usable ROM, but I plan to spend my energy elsewhere and let this release stand for what it is, which is actually a pretty usable 2.2.1.
Baka? Maybe you should change the name...Baka is Japanese for idiot/ stupid...
Can you tell me if wificalling works?

I know exactly what it means.

Not at this time. I'm not sure what all is involved in porting over the wifi calling app. If there's much interest in the ROM itself, I may take a look at that as well.

Lol I'm not Japanese, but I've seen enough anime to know what Baka means...144 MB in!
Edit: Oh god I lost connection when I was at 151 MB, but it was okay I dodged a bullet there...Its done now...

Well I used my personal hosting for it rather than one of those silly click-through-everything and wait hosts... so resuming shouldn't have been an issue. Hopefully they didn't lie when they said unlimited bandwidth LOL...
Would it be okay to edit the build.prop and add the tweaks from Master&Slave's thread through 7zip or something like that?

I think you'd have to re-sign the zip if you did that. It might be better just to pull the existing one with adb and then push it back, or use root explorer.
The reason I didn't include the 3G tweaks from his thread, are that they are typically more or less helpful for each user depending on the local network conditions.
Oh screw it then...I'm throttled regardless I was talking about the sleep policies though..

That part should already be in there. Will double check before I do any updates.
Oh alright then...I'm putting the ROM on my SD right now so I'll report back soon. I Odin'd to JFD for a clean flash as well..

Been meaning to odin to JFD myself... have wanted to pull the framework from it to make an Eclair theme for nostalgia purposes LOL...
Phone is about to boot! Voodoo just got done activating...nice boot animation reminds me of the stock Mytouch 3g one lol I always adored that for some reason. Now I got to wait until 3:30 (midwest) to reboot ugh
I was just on JFD two days ago because I just got off of CM7 to flash DMZ and I JFD'd to flash this ROM as well time consuming, but I think its worth it...
When I boot up my phone it boots up first it boots then it has to boot over again 0.o hard to explain, but at first my phone wouldn't get signal then I had to reboot again (after the initial one) now everything is fine and I'm gonna dive into this ROM.

Odd, not sure why it would double boot... Mine hasn't done that and I've flashed this several times tweaking everything. Maybe it is due to the recent ODIN? Or are you still on GB boot loaders maybe? If it continues to act up, it could be due to undervolting... I took a risk including that by default, but I think most phones can handle the settings I included. If not, I'll update it and let people undervolt via the market app, but in my experience it's a little daunting to be setting that up yourself for most people.
This is 2.2.1 so is call routing through headphones without mic working?

Oooh, good catch. I'm not sure - and I do randomly use that feature in my car (have audio go through the car speakers)... I will let you know once I try it. If not, I'll have to investigate the issue.
Say, the Russian language there is? how much RAM?

HTC Velocity - SU broken *FIXED*

I've unlocked, installed CWM, rooted it, installed busybox via the busybox installer from the market (which requires root), however titanium tells me that the SU command fails and I should attempt to re-root my device
Where should I go from here before I break something?
Thanks
UPDATE:
Never mind, booted into recovery, reinstalled VIVID_CWM_ROOT_VER2.zip all is good
had the same drama at first nice fix how are you finding the phone???
So fair I am impressed with the speed, I have not used 4G yet, its not available in my area yes, but its light years ahead of all the other handsets here even on 3G.
Physically I was expecting it to be heavier, and coming from a HTC HD2, the lock and volume buttons are perfectly positioned so that I accidentally press them all the time as they are in opposite of what I am used to and its the same width but 1 cm taller, which means I can no longer use my leather belt pouch I miss having a physical hangup and separate physical answer key which through the circumstances of its birth (WinMo 6.5) the HD2 was blessed with. Build quality on the MicroSD card slot is lacking, it could have been made better. I also miss being able to hot-swap the microsd card as I could in the HD2, instead I have to pull the battery which is annoying.
Software wise, I gotta say that I am REALLY missing MIUI, Sense is very pretty but I find it is not really what I am looking for and its quite clunky in comparison to MIUI... and I hate how it squashes down widgets for no reason at all. I will probably play around with AWD or LauncherPro in the meantime, I'm also not really a fan of the ringpull unlock screen but I'm sure I will get used to it in time. I noticed that the VIVID and RAIDER have sense 3.0, where as the Velocity has Sense 3.5... maybe ROM people can yank a clean build from the Telstra build along with teeter
BlueTooth - Works Great, Syncs INSTANTLY with my car, never skips on A2DP, works great.
Wifi - Works fantastically
Games work great on it, I'm cranking away with my PSX emulator (FPSE) and GTA III runs good, I was originally disappointed it didn't run better but after I reduced the draw distance in the game settings it was good, I think I had too many apps running as well. I installed ATK to take care of that and the phone is much better after I have ATK autorun every hour and clean up background apps.
Battery life I can't tell because I have been using it almost the entire time and it melts through it pretty fast, I'd give it a week of normal day to day use before I really give a verdict on it, I do have the screen at 100% brightness all the time which doesn't help, and I already have an extended battery in the mail. I sync 2 gmail accounts and an exchange account, all in push, and I just leave BT and WIFI on all the time as I like just jumping in the car and it works, or getting home and already being on the wifi.
Overall I give it a 6 out of 10 so far, with CM7 or CM9 and MIUI that would quickly elevate to an 8 out of 10, with all the space inside the phone, the size of the standard battery is disappointing, they could have put one almost twice the size in there if they arranged the sim and microsd slots better.
The biggest problem is that I was really spoiled with the HTC HD2, I'd say 90% of my gripes with the phone are with sense, I find it ugly and clunky and I wish HTC had just left android alone... I don't have an issue with gingerbread, I haven't used ICS yet and I'm in no busting rush. As soon as the ROM community grows up for this phone it will be amazing, until then its kinda meh.

Sorry if I offended, I meant no disrespect, any thread in the dev forum with the word sense in the title (ie most of them)... I have not bothered with, when some sense free roms show up, then I will be excited

I look forward to some cool features in the romsand also more people jumping on board to get more action out of the forum, but so far I'm happy

I went to town on launchers and things today and significantly improved the base system.... ADW Launcher, screen density of 200 and widget locker have made this a much nicer playground
still, widget locker isn't perfect, every now and then I see the standard lockscreen for a few seconds, so its like the sense lockscreen is still activating in the background

My phone is in another room, but I think in the Advanced settings somewhere there's an option to disable the stock lockscreen.

if rooted, you can also go into /system/app/ and rename HTCLockscreen.apk to HTCLockscreen.bak and it will remove the ring lockscreen, and put it back on the old sliding tab lockscreen (froyo/gingerbread stock/aosp lockscreen)

Cool trick. It doesn't break anything? I remember doing something similar on my Desire and I couldn't dismiss alarms (ugh) or answer calls, I'd have to do a battery pull.
(also, I think you need to be rooted to disable the stock lockscreen in WidgetLocker, so maybe it's essentially doing the same thing; alarms/calls work fine on my Vivid with it disabled, so maybe I'm answering my own question)

i did it on my mytouch4g and had problems dismissing alarms, but i got gentle alarm, so i didnt worry about it any more, lol
havent done it on this phone yet
i take that back, i did it, but i didnt run any alarms or test any calls, so i dont know if that is broken or not
Ah yes found it, settings > advanced > disable stock lock.
it warns that this will make any of the physical keys wake the device, I'm cool with that
Yeah, I actually like waking my phone with the volume buttons sometimes, depending on how I end up grabbing it in my jacket pocket. And it's not like they unlock the phone; I have WidgetLocker set to only have a 15-second timeout, overriding the normal display timeout, so I'm not too worried about accidental battery drain.
