[Q] Bricked Phone - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I recently got asked by a friend to flash his google nexus one phone. like a mug i said yes and now i have a issue where it turns on, vibrates 7 times and stays at the splash screen with the x on it. I can boot into the fast boot / recovery mode but nothing works.
this happened after i tried to root the phone, it said waiting for device and didnt do anything so i killed the app (Superoneclick) the phone disappeared from device manager and now wont go past the splash screen.
Does anyone have any idea how i can get it back? .. thanks in advance for any help.
James

I'm guessing, since you used S-O-C, the bootloader is not unlocked. The only way I know how to fix it is if you OEM unlock it. You'll need fastboot and your Android SDK setup correctly.
Once you have the setup done, change directories to the tools folder, wherever you put your sdk. Boot your phone into fastboot by holding the trackball while powering it on.
Code:
cd C:\asdk\tools\
Plug your phone into USB, and check if the computer sees it
Code:
fastboot devices
Unlock the bootloader (THERE IS NO GOING BACK! You can never re-lock a Nexus)
Code:
fastboot oem unlock
Now you can flash a boot.img and system.img (preferably pre-rooted) from fastboot, and it should boot normally. If the phone boots, the phone is perma-rooted, and won't need any other rooting procedure (you just need to flash a rooted rom). Next time, be a little more careful

Hi wdfowty
at running the risk of asking for more help and making you cross could you post some links to these downloads?
I am a total newbie to these phones and want to make sure i have the right apps.
thanks again for the help and the quick response... and if i manage to get this phone back believe me it will be the last one i try to flash !!
cheers
James

Nah, you've got me wrong. I'm all about helping people that are willing and able to be helped.
Follow this guide, it'll walk you through the steps to set up your sdk and unlock the bootloader. The guide is a little dated, so the info might not be 100%, but it's generally everything you'll need to know. If you get stuck, feel free to ask.

Hi again,
when i run the command fastboot devices i get an error AdbWinApi.dll is missing.
it tells me to reinstall the app but i have done that and also run all the updates and i still get the same error?
Interstingly i also get the phone to fastboot and it says in red text on the phone fastboot.usb but i cant see anything in device manager that says Nexus one etc?
any more help appreciated.... worst case you dont fancy a christmas break over in England do you?

With the latest version of the SDK tools, they changed the directory for adb and fastboot. Unfortunately I'm not on my Windows machine... but check in the directory where you have the SDK extracted to and look for a platform-tools directory (iirc). From there, you should see fastboot.
So basically where it says this "Type: cd C:\android-sdk-windows\tools" change it to "C:\android-sdk-windows\platform-tools". Keep in mind that directory name may change... again, I'm not on my Windows machine right now.

Hi again,
thanks for the continued help. I have managed to get past that, i have OEM unlocked the phone and managed to copy the flash image to the device using the commands in the link you sent me.
problem i have now is when i go into recovery the phone again just pulls up the splash screen and vibrates 7 times.
i believe what should happen according to the link is to follow the 6 steps below.. even i can do that, but the phone doesnt get that far
//Turn phone off -> Hold Volume Down, hold Power button
//Press Volume Down to highlight Recovery -> press Power to select Recovery
//Backup/Restore -> Nand backup
//Wipe -> Wipe data/factory reset
//Wipe -> Dalvik Cache
//Flash zip from sdcard -> alpha-r##-update-modacocustomrom-nexusone-desire-withadditions-signed.zip (Or whatever other ROM you're using.)
another point is it runs a couple of lines of blue txt relating to the sd card, but it flashes up and dissapears too quickly for me to be able to read it and send across to you.
thanks again and if you can work this out i owe you a beer !!

Have you flashed the recovery image using fastboot, or did you only copy the recover image to the sdcard? Step IV in that guide.

It sounds like you need to reinstall your recovery.
Download the recovery found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=611829
Rename that file to recovery.img and place it somewhere you can remember
Boot the phone into fastboot by holding down the trackball and pressing power button.
Code:
fastboot devices
Code:
fastboot flash recovery C:\path\to\recovery.img
If all went well, there should be no errors. On the phone, use the volume keys to select "Bootloader". It will take you to a white screen with the blue text (ignore it, it's looking for update files like "PASSIMG.zip"). Select recovery, and it'll boot into recovery. If you see menu items, you are good!

I ran the fastboot command and used the flash image ending 2.0.0
this is driving me round the bend !!

What happened when you used the fastboot flash command? Did you see a bar on the top right of the phone?

i do that and it accepts the recovery file and the progress bar goes up on the right hand side and the cmd prompt says its all good. then when i select recovery the phone goes to the black background with the four coloured cross and the unlocked padlock, vibrates 7 times and just hangs on that screen
beleive it or not it booted up a moment ago and the phone worked like it did before with v2.2 on it. so i am happy now it can be recovered... i just dont know what to do to straighten it out!

yes. the bar goes up on the right hand side of the phone. and i have definitely unlocked it as it now says unlocked at the top of the menu.

Have you tried to reimage the phone with the passimg method? Directions are provided in the wiki, under the unlock/restore heading:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wik...des_&_Tutorials#Unroot_.2F_Restore_your_Nexus
Follow PASSIMG method (filename is case sensitive).
The link to the files is on the word "here" on step 2.
Use FRG33.

You obiously don't know what the Q&A section is either.
But anyways, it was a zip? If it was then that wasn't the recovery image, the recovery image is a .img file. Did you try extracting the zip?
no...but now i just wana get a recovery..any so i can flash a rom

even if you borked your recovery you should still be able to get into SPL. reboot your phone with camera+power, after it finishes checking, press "back" button to go into hboot, then connect your phone, and fastboot flash recovery recovery.img (make sure you already extracted it). You should be good to go
when i connect my mobile to the pc its not recognize, setup wizard come's up and i can't install the software drives(did i tell u i'm a noop and all i know is how to flash roms using my g1 mainly)
how do i make it reconzie my g1? and were do i typ flash recovery recovery.img
Have you installed the android sdk on your pc? If not, search the developement forum for it or do a google search for android sdk.

This is excatly the reason you should read, research and always follow the directions.
There are plenty of tutorials on how to use fastboot here on xda so research.read and follow the directions and you will be fine
Here is what you need to do.
1) Follow these instructions word for word, step by step
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=502010
2) Now you should have adb installed. With adb you can plug your phone into your pc through USB and use command lines to manipulate your phone. To use commands in windows go to start, run and type cmd, enter
3) Now if it worked correctly you should have your phone plugged in and type adb remount. If it successfully mounted then adb is working.
4) now unzip Ra's recovery image and rename it to recovery.img (for simplicity) and place it on your desktop
5) now with your phone plugged into the pc power down the phone and reboot, before it starts up hold the camera button. You should see some droids on skateboards.
6) Now press the back button
7) now go to the cmd as I mentioned earlier and type: cd desktop
8) now type fastboot flash recovery recovery.img when it is done type adb shell reboot and your phone will reboot.
9)before it boots up hold the home button and if you did everything correctly you should be in Ra's recovery.
from the recovery you can always hold call, menu, end to reboot instead of pulling the battery.
Good luck. I suggest you flash a rom to get back up and going, and then spend a few weeks reading about everything android that you can find on xda before you mess with it anymore. In the future you probably won't find anyone else willing to give you instructions like this, so I would search and read ALOT before posting a bunch of how to messages....
thanx

What are you seeing when attempting to flash recovery?
So when you reboot your phone you see an unlocked lock under the colourful "X"? If you do, you have indeed unlocked your bootloader and have a proper fastboot setup.
Now you need to boot back into the bootloader [Trackball + Power]. Place the AmonRa recovery image into the "tools" folder of your sdk and rename it simply to "recovery.img". Then run the command
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Click to collapse
On the top right of your phone screen you will see a progress bar. Once it is complete, boot into the new recovery by fully powering down, thenholding [Volume Down + Power ], selecting "Recovery" from the list and tapping the power button to confirm selection.
Double post.
We are all jumping to conclusions here...let's start from the beginning.
OP - have you turned your phone on?
(I crack myself up)
Hahaha what the hell?
ok so i renamed the AmonRa recovery image to recovery.img and put it in the tools folder on my desktop and booted the phone in bootloader then tryed to run the command on the computer and I cant get it to work what am i suppost to type
I would try putting the recovery.img SDK\ dir, then using fastboot
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
easiest way

The tools folder is where fastboot lives so unless he puts the sdk\tools path in his global path, he will have to type tools\fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
OP - if you type fastboot devices, do you get an item list that displays your device?

go back to recovery, wipe everything (except your sd card). Flash your rom and if needed, the g-apps package (cyanogen rom additional step). Tell it to reboot and wait for it to boot up.
Sounds like you didn't wipe and got it stuck in a bootloop.
All is well thanks a lot guys
It's not hard to root the Nexus at all. I had adb and fastboot all set up for my Dream. It only took me maybe 2 minutes from when I unboxed my Nexus to having unlocked the bootloader. But he got it working now so it's good.

[Q] Need a lot of Help!

I was dumb enough to root my phone and try using some custom roms just to get a black notification bar and a couple other things. Thats literally all I wanted. Used Cyan, couldnt get notification bar to change color so went back to original. Anyways thought I'd try flashing the black desire bar or w/e, and failed.
Tries booting up and gets half stuck on the nexus 'X' animation loop. It gets really laggy and studders, never fully completing the loop. So I say eff it after fifteen or so minutes and reboot to recovery. Only it's the stock android recovery, not that clockwork one? So I'm lost, can't flash back to original, and decide i'll just try the factory reset. I have no time for this stuff at this point, and just want my phone so I can talk to people.
Did factory reset/wipe option, and still nothing, stuck on boot. Don't know what to do and I would greatly appreciate some help or advice. Honestly would be so sad if this $500 phone is a paperweight.
Dude relax,
1.First boot to superboot
2.Flash your clockwork (Or any other recovery). DONT REBOOT.
3.Go straight to recovery,
4.Restore your nandroid back up,
--- If you dont have back up then you have to download rom what you want (Stock froyo can be found some where in htc site)
--- Select mass storage option in the recovery and copy there the zip file, then flash it.
Tadaa everything is working again
Read my signature, "unroot / restore your Nexus", and execute. If you have ever updated to FRG83, you might be out of luck and no PASSIMG.ZIP will flash. In this case, you'll need to connect using ADB and run flash_image to flash recovery (most probably you'll get adb shell even if your phone isn't finishing boot - just make sure you run adb shell early enough in the boot). Once you've flashed the recovery, get into it and proceed with a custom ROM. If you flash stock again, your recovery will be lost again. If you didn't set up ADB (enable "USB Debugging" option on your phone) - then you're seriously out of luck. If you have it, but don't know how to use it - spend time reading and understanding "flashing Recovery" guide in the same place from my signature (Wiki), and if you have any further questions along the way - ask here.
You're not booting up because you've screwed up framework-res.apk and possibly some other system files - so you're stuck in boot loop. Need to read and understand what you're doing before you're doing it. It's really not that hard, and not willing to spend enough time understanding things "pays off" if mishaps happen - and they happen.

He can't boot! Do you read what I read? He's stuck in a bootloop! What boot are you talking about?!
Take your time reading before you rush answering with wrong and incomplete instructions that won't get the OP anywhere. A good portion of mishaps happens because of instructions like these.
This is alot for me to take learn in such quick time to be honest.
I can't even get adb to recognize my phone and i've followed all the steps. My computer makes the noise that something has been plugged in through USB, but nothing else. Under that program to uninstall drivers, I try uninstalling them, but they just stay there, nothing changes.
As for the USB debugging and me being ****ed, I'm pretty sure I left that on.
Maybe it would help me if I told you more about what I know and what I've done.
Literally just followed the step by step instructions from this site theunlockr.com/ to root my phone and use a custom rom.
In the process it made me install PDANet (again probably means nothing, but I don't know).
If adb isn't recognizing my phone, I can't flash using it. Again thank you for the help, as I really am clueless about most stuff like this.
Most of the time when doing anything that could possibly do any harm to a device, I am very cautious. I have hacked several PSP's and didn't think this would be much different...
I read all about the rooting, and knew full well all i wanted to do was get a new notification bar, I didn't really read into the rest as I had no desire or use for that information. Then everything went well, and I learnt how easy it was to go back if I screwed up or didn't like what I had flashed. Not to mention people saying it's near impossible to brick your phone unless your really trying to. Maybe that was just me being ignorant, this could not have happened at a worse time. And I cannot thank you enough for your help thus far.
Thank you for the help. Your guides were very helpful. But unfortunately every step of the way I have run into some sort of problem.
When trying to install the sdk drivers, it won't let me install the amd64 or the i386, but only both of them together. As in it selecting usb_drivers installs (where both of the seperate drivers can be found). I don't know if this is right or not.
When typing in "fastboot devices", "HT036P901361 decives" shows up, but when viewed in USBDeview, 2 of the 3 HT036P901361 drivers show as not connected. The only one that shows as connected is the "vendor specific" one.
Also adb devices, shows nothing.
So again, I'm asking for advice or help.
Edit: So I can reboot fastboot through my computer, but cannot flash anything,
typing in "flashboot flash recovery recovery.img" I get a "cannot load recovery.img".
My recovery.img file is saved on the root of the SD card which is in the phone. Is this the correct way to do it? If so I assume it's still because of the issue stated at the beginning of this post (before edit).
Edit 2: Okay decided to try this
fastboot flash recovery C:\CWrecovery.img (where its located on my hdd), and it starts then says failed infoSignature.

Let's get one thing straight. You need to read more, I guess, because you still don't know the basics - and with the lack of knowledge, it's going to be hard to help you.
Fastboot commands and driver only work when you're booted into bootloader - which is, 3 droids on skateboards on white screen and text menu, get there by booting with trackball or volumedown button pressed.
adb works only when you're booting the OS - which means, you don't touch anything and let the phone boot. Right when boot animation starts, adb should also start.
1. That's correct.
2. Are you booting into bootloader? There should be no other way to view fastboot driver. In that case, DON'T boot to bootloader, just reboot your phone and let it loop, and only then try "adb devices". If it works - use the "flash_image" method to flash recovery.
3. Read (2) above.
4. If your bootloader isn't unlocked (does it show a padlock below Nexus logo when you boot?), you won't be able to flash non-standard recovery through fastboot. You might be able to flash a complete system image through fastboot, though. Download a factory image, FRF91 for example, unzip it, then do "fastboot flash system system.img", "fastboot flash boot boot.img", and reboot.
When you flash something, you should open the Command prompt in the same directory as the file you're trying to flash! Or use full path for the image you're flashing. And it should be on the computer, not on SD card.
If everything fails - just unlock your bootloader and fastboot flash anything you want.
I am using bootloader.
C:\android-sdk-windows\tools>fastboot flash system system.img
sending 'system' (58570 KB)... OKAY [ 8.293s]
writing 'system'... INFOsignature checking...
FAILED (remote: signature verify fail)
finished. total time: 15.014s
That's the error I'm getting everytime.
I got the system.img from hXXp://developer.htc.com/adp.html, I tried looking for FRF91 but could only find megaupload links, and I had exceeded my limit somehow.
As for adb, still getting no devices when I leave it to boot by itself even though I've:
Uninstalled the 3 drivers, unplugged/rebooted, plugged back in/turned back on, and it automatically installs the wrong drivers again too quickly to do anything about it. I've gone into advanced system settings and checked it to never install system drivers automatically. Tried updating drivers, all say they're up to date.
1)So is bootloader not an option for me? Or is there something else I haven't tried? Why am I getting the signature errors?
2)Is it the drivers that are keeping adb from recognizing my phone? How do I fix this?
Any suggestions?
Ok, looks like USB debugging isn't on. In that case, there are exactly 2 options:
1) from here:
http://developer.htc.com/
Download FRG83 image for Nexus, rename to PASSIMG.ZIP, put on the root of your SD card (you can't use the phone for it, so use SD card reader), reboot into bootloader, it'll ask you to flash system image, answer "yes", wait for it to flash. Keep the phone powered. WAIT.
2) if it doesn't work - you're out of luck. "fastboot oem unlock" it is. Then you can flash whatever you want with fastboot.

stuck at red logo

Hey guys,
i did stupid things witch my razr i and now i'm completely lost…maybe someone can help?
I've been impatient enough to try to flash the leaked jb rom 3 days ago. That did'nt work
No, whenever i power up the phone it shows the red M logo and nothing happens.
I can power it down by holding vol+down and power for more than 4 seconds.
If i release the keys, it goes back to te red M,
If i keep holding vol+down it boot s into AP fastboot flash mode (secure boot) 20.0f
i can choose recovery and that'll work, but i don't have an update for external storage. rebooting from there leads to red M.
Normal Powerup, Factory and BP Tools are choosable, log says Booting into… but nothing happens after that, i'll stay in fastboot.
Power off works.
I tried to flash various images via »fastboot flash boot/recovery/system«, but nothing worked out.
I flashed the files from Razri_Root_Linux, two files (retail central europe) from here sbf.droid-developers, but nothing helped, every reboot leads to the red M.
I read about RSD-Lite, tried to install it under Win7, got it, but was lost after the Program always complained about an invalid xml.
Since i don't own that machine i went back to my linuxbox where i found sbf_flash, but i don't get it how to put the pieces together (which file/s to use)
Any hints on how to go from here?
[EDIT:] I downloaded 91.2.26001.Retail.en.EU.zip and did all the steps from flashandboot.bat, read
fastboot flash boot
fastboot flash system
fastboot flash recovery
next step ist to select recovery, did this an cwm comes up, sideloaded RAZRiRoot2.zip everything is pisitively quited, no errors are shown.
reboot leads to red M
wiped data/factory reset, reboot
red Logo.
I'm completely lost, please help
[\EDIT]
greetings, D.
I had same problem
Hello.
I had same problem because I did very stupid thing. I flashed homemade JB and because some apps don´t work I tried downgrade my i to ICS back....
My i stucked at the red M then I tried same thing as you and phone still booted into red M.
So I tried in windows cmd and FlashAndRoot.bat from this .zip "91.2.26001.Retail.en.EU - 4.1.2" it did nothing, but I tried to choose in fastboot mode BP Tools, then my i booted and started to flash JB what I can see in command window. Phone was still connected to PC. After next reboot my phone has work normally with JB.
I hope to help you. Let me know.

I tried this, and display on razr i says »Booting into BP Tools mode…«
and nothing more happens, display stays on…
and after some time pc automounts a "cd-rom drive" with some motorola files (Autorun.inf MDMSetup.xml MotorolaDeviceManagerSetup.exe MDMSetup.ini MotorolaDeviceManager_2.2.28)
but it still won't reboot…
i don't know.
Hi.
I had opened command window, "FlashAndRoot.bat" was running (I pressed any key) process was running (it means freezing ) and at this time I chose in fastboot booting into BP tools mode. My phone did restart and after it "FlashAndRoot.bat" process started to flash JB. After flashing my phone is going normally with JB. But some apps don´t work in JB.

Doesn't work. :crying:
since i use linux i opened FlashAndRoot.bat in texteditor and executed the comands from there in terminal
only chance for the script to stop and wait is IMHO(correct-me-if-i'm-wrong) "adb wait-for-device push RAZRiRoot2.zip /sdcard/RAZRiRoot2.zip & adb reboot bootloader"
but that message "Booting into BP Tools mode…" just stays there forever, or does it take longer than 5minutes?

In my case it booted within 10 second and ran.
I am noob, I am writing just my experience. I couldn´t give you another advice, sorry.
I'm not sure how far the real installation went, but i would find Windows computer, get RSD (6.0-6.14) and try to flash ICS first. If failed due to impossibility of downgrading, then try JB. While you are able to boot to Recovery - don't loose hope yet

Yeah. I'm still stuck at the red logo, or indeed, at a blueish "Bootloader unlocked warnig" message since i was able to install parts of an image from sbf.droid-developers. But flashing always fails while trying to flash system.img_signed.
After reading and trying a lot these last days i think i have to install windows somewhere just to get rsd-lite to run.
sbf_flash for linux didn't work for me and fastboot gives stange warnings about "Invalid sparse file format at header magi"…
so i'll give rsd a try before i give up. As i read in posts by HSDPilot, this is the only tool that works
thanks for your help!

[Q] Htc One BRICKED.

After only four day of having this phone i managed to brick it. I would really like to know if its fixable or if i have a really nice paper weight. Im stuck on a boot loop, I was half way through flashing a rom when it suddenly shut off. Now it will not boot up. I can load into the bootlader but when i try to go into recovery it just sends me to fastboot. When i restart the phone i can see the old recovery (TWRP)for just an instant but then the screen goes completely black. If i plug in to my pc, nothing happens my computer detects it but it says y device is damaged nd it cant identify it. PLEASE HELP Am i out of luck?
Ive looked around but i couldnt seem to find anyone with the same problem as me (Sprint Variant)
Good news it's not bricked i would put this question on the rom thread someonethere sshould be able to help
There's a Sprint One forum as well, so hopefully you found a ROM on there!

I really hope so because on a college budget i cant afford another phone D:
Seen this in a couple of other places. Seems certain recoveries are possibly becoming currupted during flashing a new ROM.
What you need to do it get back into fastbboot, and....
fastboot erase recovery
fastboot erase cache
the re-flash your recovery, boot into recovery, full wipe and reflash your ROM.

Can you flash recovery in fastboot ?
the safest thing to do is relock and use a matching RUU to get back to stock

Your phone isn't bricked. There are two tools in this forum that can help you. One is made by hasoon2000(I think that's his user name), and the other is jwtool(I think). Use them to help to flash a recovery if you don't know how to use fastboot.

Edit: Just got done typing the stuff below and saw you can't connect to your device in fastboot? What do you mean by re-installed driver?
Don’t worry, as long as you can still get into hboot your phone is not completely bricked!
The fastboot commands I referred to need to be carried out on your laptop/pc when you phone is connected in fastboot.
Can I assume that as you have already unlocked bootloader and flashed a custom recovery you are already familiar with this and have your computer set up for fastboot commands?
(Apologies if you already know some of this, best not to skip parts out though!)
I’d start with downloading a fresh version of your chosen recovery, and place it in your fastboot directory ready. I’d also do the same with your ROM.
Like you have already done, boot into fastboot. Connect your phone to your pc, and the red text should change to ‘Fastboot USB’.
Then open up command prompt and get to your fastboot directory. (On Windows 7 you just find that folder in Explorer, hold shift and right-click, then choose ‘Open command window here’.)
To check your pc is talking to your phone, type ‘fastboot devices’. You should get a device serial number back if all is well.
Then type ‘fastboot erase cache’ and hit enter.
Then type ‘fastboot erase recovery’ and hit enter.
Then type ‘fastboot flash recovery [name of recovery].img’ and hit enter.
Then type ‘fastboot reboot recovery’ and hit enter.
Hope fully you should successfully boot into recovery now. Once in recovery, mount USB storage and copy over your fresh ROM. Choose to do a full wipe including cache and dalvik, then reflash your ROM.
Reboot.
Let me know how this goes.

I used the hasoon2000 to flash TWRP earlier, but my problems is that my pc wont recognize my phone. When i plug it in it and try to re-flash it it cant find it. When i check my devices it shows up as an android device but it says the drivers are damaged. if i could get it to read it i think i should be eable to reflash somethint.
I APPRICIATE ALL THIS HELP. i really am trying to be as specific as possible :fingers-crossed:
Hey so just a thought and experience I have had with all my HTC phones is when you see that quick glimpse of the TWRP recovery screen then it disappears to an empty black screen......you are sometimes still in a form of recovery but during your Rom flash something (i don't know for sure) changed and it doesn't show the screen only black. So with that long explanation out of the way....have you tried once the screen goes black the
"adb devices "
Mine whenever in this situation would return the output of serial number and recovery so then you can push or sideload the Rom and boot into the system at which point your fastboot drivers will finally be recogniZed.....
Hope this helps a little

I'd say the next step is to re-install your drivers in the SDK. Open up your Android SDK and reinstall them. In Windows Device Manager, find your connected device (probably now with an exclamation mark on it) and right click on it and select 'Update Driver'.
(Assuming you are using Windows 7 here?)

when you are in fastboot, connect your phone using the usb cable, and when you see "fastboot" written in red turned into "fastboot usb" or something like this, do the commands below using cmd window of course :
1) fastboot erase recovery
2) fastboot erase cache
3) fastboot flash recovery recoveryname.img
4) fastboot erase cache
Let us know when you fix it
Good Luck

(Win8 but the procces is identical.) All my drivers are up to date. Still no love.
On the dev forum is a thread that includes all the latest drivers (including an app to remove older drivers.)
Find that thread, download the drivers and bmp and driver removal tool. Remove drivers with tool, install the new drivers, reboot, connect phone and see if 'adb devices' finds anything.
Also make sure you're using the latest adb.
