ha! unfortunately, no, it's on XDA, so it should (hypothetically) be easier for people to find. It's also a work in progress, I want to do so much with this. Being a college student on break has it's advantages.

You may want to include a short explanation for each ROM category (AOSP, Sense, New Sense, Senseless) as well, because the differences between, say, an AOSP and Senseless ROM are difficult to understand for many newcomers.

yep, this is my plan in the near future. I am so stressed out about this week, though... lol. For the next 3 weeks I have nothing but nothing to do, I plan to make this thread awesome.
Please continue to leave suggestions for the thread. If it gets too cluttered with my silliness, I'll just make a new one (v.2). But I will definitely keep this up to date.
Very convenient, thank you for putting in the time to put this together. It is now part of my favorites.

I didn't think about it because AFAIK the only D/L link for it is via ROM manager. I'll add it though.

Hello everyone. Well I have some free time now and have decided to make a rom exclusively for the X. It will be called x911. After testing out a few and not finding exactly what I like, I decided to start this project. So If anyone is interested in testing a beta, giving some input/requests on certain features etc, let me know. Updates and news about dev will be on "thevideomole" .com - can't direct link sorry. Just sign up for an account and follow my wall if your interested in participating, or just want to know about the rom, release date etc. Thanks.

I'll test for you, no problem.

I don't think that a person asking about your background or experience is kind of a weird question. To be honest I normally close threads like this because its been my experience that ROMS are never produced. Perhaps you if you are soliciting feedback you may post a beta or test ROM you are working. Guys in this forum are used to a lot of fake posts.

Exactly...I didn't mean who are you on a personal level, I meant it as, who are you as it pertains to the Android Community. I write articles and news that's Android related, and have been around for a long time in the forums, but I have never heard of you or your brand of ROMs. So I meant who are you as a Developer or Chef, because maybe you are an experienced Dev and I just don't know of you. But also you could be that kid jdkclipse from the incredible and other forums...some might know that drama.
Either way though, if u have a ROM, just post it and a screenshot and a detailed changelog/info on it, no need to open a thread until you have that.
Cheers!
i would love to test. I'm also feelign the same way you are on roms. I wanna build my own too but not much help for the Droid x. We may can collaborate to make a pretty good rom

Difficult due to the ever changing nature of each ROM and the ability to swap out kernels and modems. However, it's a good way to compare the ROMs without having to dig through hundreds of posts in the dev forum

First time poster so I hope this is an acceptable place for this question. Can someone tell me if and which ROM is the most basic? By this I mean it is a blank slate with everything removed besides items needed to operate the phone, mms/sms, camera and internet browsing. Basically everything removed that cannot be replaced by an app from the market. I tried Preception (I think it was that one) and it was ok for a couple days and then it became unstable so I am using Serendipity.
Thanks everyone...

Stability, try andromeda, basic, go cognition. I run andromeda. There is a reason that rom has been around for so long and the dev thread is so short and always on the second or third page of the forums. Just read that thread and you will see the stabiliy.

I tried Cognition a couple months ago but something happened. Not really sure what. I think I used SGS and removed too much stuff and thought it would be easier to just reflash. I was going to go back to it but it looks like the dev may be awol from reading the thread.
I will try andromeda but I am a minimalist and would like for my phone to be the same where if I personally don't need it but it is available from the market or other means then I don't want it on my phone. (not sure if that makes sense but I am pretty new in the custom phone world)

Had a Samsung Moment for my first android phone and had messed with it but was very unhappy with battery life. I have gotten (a used) HeroC and am looking to update to 2.2 or higher if possible as I would like to have the app2sd option since I am running out of space stupid quick. I am not looking for anything fancy although Sense would be nice to keep. So with this in mind I have 2 questions.
1. What version would you guys suggest.
2. Where is the best and easiest instructions to follow to do this.
Thanks!

First, the best advice you'll ever get on xda is search and read. Second, aospCMod 5/16 is 2.3.4 and based on CM7, it's amazing. For the sense look go into general android themes and apps and look for sense theme chooser themes in the theme chooser sticky thread. I hear NTsense is nice.

That is where it becomes very confusing while searching. So I find the following link http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=CDMA_Hero_ROMs which shows "aospMod - (11/5/10" but you suggest aospCMod 5/16. Also I am seeing references to radios? I do not recall stuff like that when I was messing with my Moment.
Not trying to be difficult, just trying to understand fully before I do this. I am not planning on getting into trying a bunch of different ones, I want to pick something that is solid and reliable and does not break anything. I see some references to the camera and other things not working sometimes.

aosp just dropped a new ROM, grab that one, it's 5/23.
Thanks for the heads up! That fixed the issue with the clock. Still working on getting Sprint vvm working. Ustream app is also broke with this but that is not a big concern.
I am finding that a lot of new ROMs are being posted that don't actually have any difference to other ROMs apart from some colours, and really are just themes.
I promised myself that I wouldn't write a wall of text so I've kept it short.

(yes I know it's a different forum)
I would be okay with this if they clearly stated what they did instead of trying to make it seem like actual development
Sometimes I ask my self why they don't just make flashable themes instead of making their own "ROM"
They should put [COPYCAT] in front of their threads and save us a lot of trouble
That plus the ones that make a rom that I really like then decide they want to make their own forum that you have to sign up for if you want to keep up to date with the rom.
Or I hate.it when they make nice rom with their own stuff and theme it. Like wtf man no one wants a black and blue rom with a purple or green back cover. Think, man think.-________-

it would save us all the time of downloading, flashing and possibly restoring if you wiped.
I concur. If all that has changed is the theme, then just post a theme and let people choose ROMs that are actually useful.

Confusing
For the average user it is very confusing to have so many roms out there. Not many have time to read countless thread with hundreds of pages to decide which rom is a winner and which is a lemon ...
Yes it is true that it will be lot more convenient to us people, but what if they're doing it to learn?

Not to make this personal, but if the average user is not willing to read and study then that is a problem of his, or her, own. XDA isn't about instant gratification, you SHOULD look and study, that's what evolves the average user into a more well built and well studied user
I'm not trying to offend you, just giving my two cents.
-Remember, Android hell is a real place and you will be sent there at the first sign of defiance-
This annoys me too but for a different reason. I have created my very first rom, but it is just another rom that I themed and tweaked. I threw that rom into the trash and reset my kitchen.
Its hard to think of something original, never been done before, stand out from the crowd, make iphone users jealous... which kinda sucks, because I want to contribute to the community. I think i'll just wait a week or two for the x10 gingerbread to come out and do a few themes...
It well, that's my rant finished.

Hello everyone,
I've been pondering over some project to divert my time on and well recently I've begun to notice the somewhat unorganized mess XDA has become. So I thought of the fabulous idea of creating a new website made strictly for ROMs, Kernels, Rooting, & Unlocking Bootloaders. The website would have separate sections for each device, then differing versions of the device, then for android version, and then finally for type of development. For example AT&T Galaxy S3 CM12 rom would be found under Galaxy S3>AT&T>Lollipop>Roms>Cyanogenmod 12.
Get it? Super organized, super easy to find things.
What do you guys think? Is this something worth investing my time in? Or should I just give u on this little project? Be brutally honest please. After all there is no point on building a website that nobody will ever use.
More steps but easier finds. Nice.
Sounds good, especially if you can get support from xda.
CyanogenMod 11 listed under jellybean ROMs?
Your biggest issue is people dont really leave xda. Developer wise most are keen to stay here because support and friends are here i imagine. Also logistically trying to support even half the phones xda does and have it so organised into just what the phones are compatible with, along with paired Q&A + general threads would be immensely time consuming and would require more than a few people to keep up with the flow. Not even considering user mistakes with roms added in the wrong forum. While it would be a good idea i wouldnt attempt it. The mods are always willing to listen to new ideas to help keep the forums tidy though. Maybe try help out closer to home?
