No SIM Card - Captivate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So last 5 minutos I have been freaking out over here, my Captivate just stoped recognizing my SIM card, everything was okay and my phone right here at my side until Astrid come bother me to do my homework, when I closed Astrid this notification pops upo saying that I have no SIM card on the phone and asking me to reboot it, so I rebooted and over and over again removed my card and still no results, anyone have ever had a similar problem? (it's not just for messages, its for everything)
If there is no solution how can I make my phone back to default options? so that I can return it to AT&T( right now I have Cognition 2.3b4), sorry for all the stupid questions

Trying to see if ur SIM card is toast.

Take your sim to a store and get a new one. I did it twice with my phone. The second time I showed the sales guy I had 2.2 with a custom rom after he *****ed about no 2.2 update for his captivate. They don't care. They are sales, not returns. And to answer your question, odin. You shouldn't be flashing if you don't know how to fix it.

Got a new replacement G1

Got a quick question for everyone, although I may already know the answer myself but it does not hurt to just ask to make sure.
My daughter come home from college this past weekend and on Friday night was attending (a non-alcohol I am sure) party, anyway several of her friends decided that it would be cool to throw her in the pool. Well they did, and looking at the many pictures I got to see I can see her holding her G1 in her hand and the look of "don't" in her face as they let her go into the water and she let go of the phone and it sank to the bottom amid all the confusion and the the several hundred kids in the pool she could not locate it at the bottom since it was white for about 10 minutes. Long story short I have insurance on it and just got the new replacement today!
This is my question I naturally want to get it rooted again and I know how to do that, but can I root the phone without a sim card? Since she took her sim card out of the wet G1 and put it in her hacked Iphone(dare i say that word) to use until I got the new G1. I want to root it, get it back to Cyan's ROM then send it to her at college so she can just put the sim card back into the new one. Is that possible by using the "skip this part" after flashing a new ROM when it asks to sign into your Google account?
thanks in advance...
Peace!
Yes i believe you can do it without a sim card. I think Stericson found a way to do it, so you might want to search and try to find it. Or why don't you put in your sim card and root it?Unless of course you don't have t-mobile.
You can skip that part if its an adp version. But I can't remember if cynogen's rom has that option.

Turbo Tsi... thanks, I have T-Mobile as well... I thought I had read somewhere in these forums that the phones were sim card specific? Meaning that once it is registered to that phone with the sim inserted then that sim follows that phone? If that is not the case I will be doing the rooting tonight... And yes Cynogen's rom has that option... guess I should just try it...!
peace
I'm 99% sure it will work fine if you put your sim card in to do it, but you should also be able to do it fine without the connection, just flash flash flash, then send it to her and she can put hers in and do the initial set up.
Thanks
Thanks going to go at with my sim card installed and see what happens...

Uses for my old g1?

I finally upgraded to a g2 and my g1 has just been lying around all lonely. I flashed the COS ROM but it's a little too laggy. So it's back to cm6 and I'm struggling to find a use for it. I am going to be using it without a sim so a rom that wouldn't show the "no sim card" text on the lock screen would be nice.
Sent from my stock G2
Finding a ROM that will not tell you that you are missing the SIM probably not going to happens. But you never know someone might decide to write a code for it. Suggestion on that is to find an old SIM (maybe from a friend) from any vendor (AT&T, T-Mobile, etc...) and put it in. That is what I did to one of my old phone so it does not tell me that there is no SIM card.
BTW, I was using CM6 (slow and sluggish) on my G1 and after it crashed on me last weekend. I finally found a good ROM that is fast with G1.
It's SuperAosp DM 2.8.2 with 15MB boot. My total interal memory after initial flash is about 90MB of memory, after loading up a hand full apps (IE: facebook, gmail, etc...) I still have about 82.80MB left. My G1 still running very fast.
If it would have been CM6, my phone would be crawling by now, and if lucky about 20MB of memory.
I just deleted the phone.apk.
I got a bunch of FC's when I first did it but after a reboot it was fine.
Doesn't say anything about no sim now
Didn't want my 2 year old to accidentally dial 911.

ROFLOL! Sorry I just have to laugh on the 2 year old with the 911. Beleived me, I know that feeling. Wait until your 2 year old call you at the office (by himself/herself).
BTW! What is your 2 year old doing with the phone anyway? That's a bad sign to have them start early.
Anyway, I never have thought of that. If that what you are recommeding to raydar670.
@ raydar670 - If that is so, backup the phone.apk first before you delete it. Just in case you need to use it as a spare.
Thanks guys. I think I'll try the ROM that BeenAndrodized mentioned.

From time to time my tab just says sim is not put in bit if i remove it it reboots cus i "removed sim" so the is be notivied. First i found out that it could be my sim cus i used in my old phone and it was hot a bit from the connectors in it and i should use a strip of "tesa" on the back so that it is better connectet. It worked for a while now the problem came back again when i driving car an its on the samsung-cardock it is sometimes gone or better the sim.
Do i have to reorder a new one or is it a prob of my tab? When it is the tab i`ll have a prob cus its rooted so no garanie

no sim card or does´nt read sim card
should anyone find that they have a problem with sim card (not reading) i would strongly advise that you seriously consider that it may well be the conexion in the tab.
it was driving me crazy, but i was determined, and eventually chose to desmantel the device. where i was able to see the false conexion in the sim card holder. i tried to straighten it and it broke off, the next step would be to change the sim card hold which requires soldering (in a fairly delicate place) and i havent got a clue.at the moment i have put a bit of tin foil on the sim card (bridging) so that it connects and it is doing just fine. this post is especially for those who are certain that they have unlocked the carrier network so that they are able to rule out that cause. (sorry about the grammar).
The following post from another forum may be of interest to you in how to reinstall the call app you speak of. The poster is talking about loss of gmail application but it may apply to your situation:
Okay so after I posted this, I talked to one of my software developer friends who is also and Android freak. He told me that any application that linked to google is probably causing the problem. The only application that fit that description was Talk and talk Provider. I extracted the Talk and Talk Provider files from my .zip file, and put them in the "download" folder on the Vibrant's internal memory (NOT THE MICRO SD CARD!). Then I used the Vibrant to access this website: http://www.lysesoft.com/products/andexplorer/index.html and downloaded the "AndExplorer" file manager from the website, NOT the Android Market (remember, my android market was not working). I used AndExplorer File Manager to open and install Talk.apk and TalkProvider.apk. I also reinstalled Swype.apk. Rebooted the phone and VIOLA! Problem fixed.

[Q] SIM Info gone

So I lost all info on my SIM card. No MEID, carrier info, phone number...everything. I kept getting a "no Sim card" "cannot connect to LTE". So I started messing around in my phone pushed buttons I shouldn't have and now I'm forced to do the one thing I don't ever do...ask you guys for help. I have been able to answer every question I've had by searching posts. Not this time. Can I pull the info for my sim card from a previous backup of my phone? If so, where would I find it and how and where would I place it in my phone to restore what I am missing?

Is it a sprint HTC one? If so, and your phone is running besides the SIM no detecting, I'd call into sprint and see if reprovisioning on their end would help...the SIM is strictly for the lye connection, it may have failed which if it did I believe you'd have to get a new one from sprint and have it linked to your account/phone in their system...I had similar situation except my issue was that a different SIM was linked to my account/phone which caused me to not have lte data til sprint changed to the CCID (a tech support rep will know what to do, it's a pain but it can be done) that was currently in my phone. Hope that helps. Let me know if that got ya somewhere.

Yes it is a sprint HTC One. I am going in tomorrow for a new SIM. I wonder if being rooted will be an issue? Guess we'll find out. I'll let you know if that fixed the issue.

Open channel for BIP

Hi, I get the annoying message "Open channel for BIP" from time to time. I can relate it to the second SIM-card. After I put it in, the messaging starts. Can I switch that off somehow?

Thanks, but already found that as well. It's a bit old and not a solution. Here a summary of what was found out there:
What is BIP:
Barrier Independent Protocol, relative new high speed channel for moving data between a BIP server and a storage device (like the SD card in a phone).
Someone meant it could have something to do with a SD card. There is no in the phone, the SD-Slot is used for the second SIM.
Another one updated the phone. Didn't help me.
App bugs? Don't think so. The messaging start when inserting the second SIM-card and stops after removing. No Apps installed or changed during that process.
The last person change his SIM-card then, and the messaging stopped for him.
So the main question remains: what ist that BIP about and what does it have to do with that SIM-card and can I stop it somehow?
I already changed the SIM-card. Now it's a new one but the same provider.
The other SIM doesn't make any problems, it's another provider. But the provider might not be the problem. When I exchange the place of each SIM the problem still exists. Does it have something to do with the combined SD-/SIM-card-slot?
Any ideas?

Some users said updating fixed the issue, but if nothing there worked on yours then I would honestly just try a factory reset to rule out other potential factors. It might still be related to an app that triggers something when 2nd sim is inserted, not sure... Are you on latest stock firmware, or rooted on custom roms?

OK, that's quite weird. I've absolutely no clue how, but it seems to be fixed. Without factory reset. No root, no custom rom. Latest firmware, so there was no option to update anything.
What have I done now:
I tried to figure out several combinations with both or one SIM-card in different slot-combinations. I wanted to know if it could have anything to do with the provider or the SIM-card-mount. Between I restarted and reinserted the SIM-Card mount several times. Then somehow the messaging stopped. Till now (about 24h) it's best behaved
So I'm sorry that I've opened an new thread, because it's quite close to the result of that one:

Goad you managed to get it sorted out, and thanks for posting back to close the loop
OK, it started again. Now installed Norton Antivirus and it found no virus but apps with unusual/unexpected behavior. It was one for my electronic scale (yolanda-app) and one for voice recording. Deinstalled both and the message was gone. Hopefully forever now...
I have no idea about anything y'all are discussing. However I just opened, turned on and connect to my hotspot, my second Samsung Galaxy J7crown in 2 months and I am getting same pop up. Try to search for answer and I get opinions, cause Google and assistant absolutely suck now on any actual FACT finding anymore. Did anyone figure this out yet? Google won't. I'm sure it's another thing they DON'T want you to know about. Frustrated....
I have to agree. I just recently got a j7 crown and am experiencing this same message from time to time. I just came here looking for answers but have found nothing. Hope it's nothing serious
I had this message only once, when I went to Japan then switched SIM card.
I have had the same issue all day today. I've had this phone since November and have randomly seen this pop up but never like it has today. I went to settings, about phone and clicked update and it has fixed it so far. It has only been 20 minutes but hoping it doesn't happen anymore. I never thought something would annoy and anger me the way that did lol!
I've had the same Galaxy J7 crown with StraightTalk service, since Feb 2019. I've never removed neither my SD nor SIM card. I only hey the BIP message briefly at bottom of screen every time I turn my phone on (like from being turned off completely, not just the screen).
It's not a nueseance to me, I am just wondering what exactly it means.
Any answers? In layman's terms? Thanks!
Duh!..
They are watching you. Isnt it odd that there is no definitive answer????
