[Q] Froyo (2.2.1) JPX vs JPU - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Have a question for you guys.
What is the difference in JPU and JPX firmwares?
I have tried both and there doesn't seem to be any drastic changes. I know that the JPX is Official and for Europe. So does that mean JPU was only a beta version?

Kies is working on JPX. Yes JPU was a beta.

JPX is probably just more refined hence it's being released through Kies so Samsung are ready to go public with this firmware.
Also this should be in general.

Kies still not working in JPX..though the system is recognizing.. kies doesn't from inside the application!!!

Why you think JPU is beta and JPX official? Have you some evidence? Work by me werry well JPU long time, without any bugs or issue...
One question more, why we need Kies, if we now have OTA firmware updater inside phone? Kies is unneccesary in future for firmware updating on my opinion....
Regards

One more thing..Earlier JPU had an issue with contacts app still running.. Currently that is fixedd!!!

Yeah, something called test firmware and release firmware....
And only complete noobs actually use Kies - "pro" users havent used it since a week after buying the phone.

What about the Gallery Sensor Issue?

That bug was a deal killer for me with JPU, glad they sorted it with JPX (confirmed here with official JPX)

I`m still on JPU, coz Darkyy have not JPX
but Kalpic said JPU is beta from JPX
& dont have reason not belive him

Not that quadrant scores means squat, but JPX gives 1100 vs 1220 on JPU.

That Bug is currently fixed. After opening contacts. Press back. Open up task manager. YOU wont be able to find contacts as one of the running processes. So I pretty much feel that bug is fixed!!!

as for me JPX with hardcore's K11A_256Hz ext4-ext2 gives 2000
it was around 1850 on JPU

Is there any improvement in terms of bettery life with JPX over JPU? I am on Darky's 5.6 and while the battery life is certainly tolerable, its considerably lesser than older roms. If JPX can fix that, it would be awesome.

Battery life and GPS seem better for me however it is still early

As for me after i updated to official jpx from the beta jpu, battery now is fixed and not jumping from 100% to 98% right after un pluging the device. Samsung's Program monitor does the good job by ending the contacts right after you're done using the contacts app amazingly, its widget does not close or vanish right after you use it to un-install applications and stuffs, Good job Samsung! Keyboard is fixed, web browser is still the same you can open 4 pages and does not go beyond that like eclair's and froyo 2.2, but by default the plug-ins were set to "on demand" other significant features were improved like the new Vending market of android with top scrolling carousel of which isn't there on jpu 2.2.1. Less lags and no more forecloses. Root works only if you use "Super Oneclick". Wifi is good and works if your using it and disables if the screen is of (i set it to turn of if the screen is of) dis-organized apps inside TW. the rest is up for you guys to observe or to test the difference for you-selves.

Is it a worth while to update to JP3 now ?

I´m in JM5 , and i think about upgrading to JP3...
is it a good ideia ?
No.. Highmem has been merged into the eclair trees, MobileAP is totally broken (and there are many other broken/crashing things) and finally, JIT isn't available in that build anyway (so no real speed benefit).
The only reason for using Froyo at the moment is if you have apps that require Froyo, or there are API's in Froyo you want access to.
Otherwise, trust me, you are wasting your time with it. I installed it because I couldn't help myself, used it for 2 days, and then reverted because it was an inconvenience.
I am finding JM5 more stable. I've tried both. Im not going to bother with JP3 again.

ok..
thank you guys =D
the leaked 2.2 is not stable enough
i'll wait for the final
I tried the new builds, but went back to JF3, which came on the phone.
As the others mentioned, I will wait for the official release.
upside, you can view flash on the browser./
These ROM versions are getting confusing - is JM5 newer/older/better/worse than JG5 or are they practically the same?
tried it for a week and it got very slow even with tweaks.Wait for another leak or the official version
I tried JP3 i found it abit laggy but it was a good taste of what 2.2 to come
Google Maps just force-closed on launching for me in JP3 - that was a complete deal-breaker, so I reverted.
JM5 is a later version than JG5 (at least it should be)
I've had no problems with JP3 at all and have benchmarked 1843 with it......Everything has worked fine for me on it??
I'm running JP3 as well and very pleased with it. I tried it on 2 previous occasions but couldn't get it to work well and reverted. A few days ago I did a fresh install, rooted by downgrading the kernel to JP2, rooted and upgrade kenel back to JP3.
Root access made it possible to fix all the little bugs on the ROM, so now I wouldn't go back. The only thing broken is Mobile AP, otherwise it's smooth, lag free and working as well as any other ROM

which little bugs did you fix?
also wouldnt JH2 kernel work on JP3 rom and fix the lag without ext3/4 on sdcard trick?
I'd stick with JM5, someone mentioned about Flash but you can get that working on Eclair. I actually had it running on the stock ROM, just check over in the Apps and Themes section for the .apk, it seems to work quite well.
Been using JP3 for a week now, followed the guide on hemorrdroids.net (search for "Galaxy S FroYo With New Speed Fix!" but I did not apply the speed fix.
Honestly the phone is at least 3x faster then the stock version that came with it.
Seems to be working VERY stable except for the AP Wireless option which is broken.
Have not had any issues besides one crash when tried to use AP.
After using both JM5 and JP3 I can assure that at least with me the froto update is ablot smoother even without the lagfix applied... After the lagfix it just flies really...

Too buggy for now. I'm sticking with JM5, have already tried 3 custom jp3's and they all sucked.
I'm also running the JP3 without any problems. The JM5 was fine, but seems to default to Russian. Anyone knows where I can find the real original JF3? Just in case I want to go back.
I missed Froyo JP3 ROM. after loading back DXJG4(latest Official South East Asia ROM ),the Eclair ROM has this bad memory management problem. without using Task killer..the lag will come back..even after lagfix.
On JP3,I dont need to use task killer, I have no sudden blackout problem.

The reality is that no, it doesn't resolve lag
not by a long shot in recent leaks, q&a please.
i9000 froyo made lag worse!!!
I installed it yesterday via kies.
The former version worked perfect for me but the froyo update was real bad!
I can't work with my phone, it's getting stuck all the time.
The EMail software won't work at all.
Maybe i'm missing something but if i could downgrade back to the old version it would be great!

Well if you read all post about it you should know you should wipe the catch, Format the internal sdcard and do a factory reset when you flashed the latest froyo.
All error and strange thing you got is for all bad data/settings you have.
Froyo works real good...

Lol DamianGto. Seriously though, how long have you been working for samsung?
If i did work for Samsung i would not be here and help people to tweak the sgs and make custom kernels.
Many issues on the sgs is user errors. If they read some tread they would know how to deal with it.
I feel its to easy to make a tread or post about things without reading about it first.

[Q] Galaxy S - Froyo XXJPO, no update options.

I have updated my Galaxy S to XXJPO lately and there are two things I am wondering about (both related to updates)
1/ I don't have an update option on the phone anymore, is that to be expected?
2/ KIES obviously has no update for me but then again, might be normal since the firmware might actually be the latest official?
Can anyone please respond to that for me? Thanks!
Well you don't have any update, so it can't show any for you.

JPO is 2.2 Froyo, the latest official one for your handset, so you are correct, no updates.

[Q] [JVB, JVK, JV1] Browser Problem

Do you still (with JVB) have the problem that the browser stops scrolling after a few lines if you scroll fast?
My phone:
Galaxy S GT-i9000 (European version)
Firmware Version: 2.3.3
Baseband: I9000XXJVK
Kernel: 2.6.35.7
Buildnumber: GINGERBREAD.XWJVB
i have this "problem" since the first froyo FW. It's not GB related.

I didn't have this problem in Froyo (2.2 JPM and 2.2 JPY/JS8).
There are many users who even don't seem to have this problem in latest gingerbread build
The problem was noticable in earlier SGS2 videos as well
Here is a video showing this problem
I evidentally have this issue as well. Doesn't smooth scroll like in Froyo, it just seems to stop every few frames or so. My looks exactly like your video.
Phone Info:
Galaxy I9000M
2.3.3 Gingerbread (KC1 Bell Modem)
CF Root 2.7 (-w- CWM)
CRT-Off animation with Battery Mod
I am on official Gingerbread 2.3.3. and I don't have this problem. Scrolling is fast and smooth till the end.

Do you use the standard equipped stock browser in JVB?
Opera, Dolphin (HD/Mini), Miren, Firefox and others don't suffer from this problem.
same thing also for me :-/ i hate it

It's a feature
It is present in every SGS Gingerbread Rom. Doesn't seem to occur on SGS2 anymore.

you should work for Google!
I was really excited about the browser in Gingerbread until I realized the scrolling bug.
It seems super smooth and has great multi-touch, but the scrolling kills it!
If they fix it (which I hope they will eventually) then this will become a great browser. As it is, it's annoying and I prefer the latest Froyo browsers like ZSJPK to this.
I've noticed that the problem occurs only in landscape view.

strange, i also don't have this issue right now.
flashed couple of times 2.3.3 JVB in the past days and i recall at some point i had the scroll "bug/feature", but now it's gone?

I have tried flashing multiple times, but this problem remains. Does anyone have a fix?

[Q] bad gingerbread luck. kies stopped working

I have been holding out for Samsung official gingerbread release.
Now I kies got updated to a new version so it looks promising.
Just after the update i cannot start kies on my win7.
Just says kies stopped working.
Anyone have the same problem?
Are there any other good roms based on 2.3.3?
There's a deodexed version of the 2.3.3 jvb available to download from the dev forums and stock versions on SamFirmware you can flash with Odin or heimdall.
Who needs kies?

Complete removal of Kies may fix the problem . Reboot and install latest Kies from Samsung .
Kies only updates firmware when the server has the firmware for your phones product code .

Succesfully flashed JVB from samfirmwares!
Everything looks smooth. Except the quadrant score is lower than score in 2.2.1 version.
2.3.3 (JVB) = 927
2.2.1 = 1188
Almost looks like the file system lag is back!?
Do you have any good suggestions for rom if I want to replace touchwiz?
launcher seems easy to replace. but how to replace phone and contacts app?
Darkkys rom seems to be popular in this forum?
Does it come in a stable gingerbread version yet?

Quadrant Scores are nothing buddy!!! User experience on how snappy the phone is and how smooth the animations are flowin.....that's what counts!!!
Replace touchwiz with either GoLauncher or Zeam...these are the best as per me...

But that is not official firmware that came with the phone and not using official firmware invalidates warranty . So users choice and users ask for original firmware not stock rom .
Of course all us really clever users who understand Odin hacking Flashing and building all have a back up of the original rom to recover . Dont you .
