System volume randomly turning all the way back up? - Captivate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have the system volume turned all the way off.. I find the startup sound and the key clicks irritating. But every once in a while it starts back up. I don't see any threads about it, and a google search yields nothing. I've had this happen on 2 Captivates now, anyone else have this problem?

Yep have the problem as well. Im pretty sure others have the issue as well as I recall seeing this before... I want to say it has something to do with a conflicting menu command or something of the sort

Wonder if Samsung is going to address this issue at all.. it's pretty minor. But it sure does suck when the phone randomly decides to make loud clicking noises.

I have this problem as well. I have not been able to figure out the sequence of events that causes it.

I have this problem as well, it always seems to happen after I mess with stuff in the system preferences, but like the previous poster, I haven't noticed any patterns.

I think I figured it out, I have navigation volume turned all the way up and when I leave navigation, the system volume is cranked all the way up too. They must be linked some how.

System volume
Yes, seems that everyone has this problem...even on custom ROMs.
What I've tried is to use Tasker to turn the system volume down to where you like it after the Navigation exits.
Works great.

AudioOut_1 Partial Wakelock

I know there was a thread about this somewhere on here before, and I did a search but nothing came up.
Has anyone else have this come up in BetterBatteryStats? I remember there was a way to decrease the amount used by going to settings>sound and unchecking touch sounds and screen lock sound. I've had this unchecked for a while, but I still get a partial wakelock about this, and right now its showing 1 hr 9 min, about 204% ! Does anyone know what else could be caused by this? I haven't been listening to music, not watching anything, haven't even played any games today
Um, anyone? I still have this problem

Yes I do also and on most ICS..Havent figured it out yet either.
Did you also disable dial-pad touch tones?
They used to make AudioOut wakelock for me too..
Yea I have that unchecked as well. Every since I learned about this wake lock about 2 months back, I now keep all these settings disabled. But i recently in the past week or 2 kept checking betterbatterystats again and this always comes up at the top. During the day, i dont watch anything, if I play a game, im usually in class and always have the volume off (for media and games)
It would be good if someone figured this out

Did you install any program to boost volume like Volume + etc? They have profiles which Can cause wake locks, the sad part is poorly written programs Can cause wake locks even when profiles are off, I am not suggesting any program in particular but we wary of any betas. In my SG 2 I had to do a Nand Restore as even after deleting a program to increase volume had those wake locks. Surely keep all vibrations and haptic feedback off.

Hmmm, that could be it. I've installed dsp manager before couple times, even after flashing different roms, whether it was already loaded into the rom or I installed it as a stand alone. I'm currently, on liquid smooth and it wasn't in the rom, and I actually haven't installed it again. But obviously I've done full wipes and such where needed. So I don't know if that's still the issue.
What about haptic feedback on the keyboard presses?
Edit: I don't know know if removing haptic feedback on the keyboard helps for this issue, but i can certainly type better and faster now . I've always had hf on, on the keyboard. But i guess it's just a distraction. Hopefully this helps with the wake lock too

Droid 4 silences itself ever since ota to .217

This is apparently a common enough thing from what I've seen on line, but every solution I find involves the person having used a profile switcher or their calender to signify being unavailable. I do not use either type of program. I almost never silence my phone. (in the movie theater or similar, yes, but otherwise never) Does anyone have any idea what it could be? It;s only been happening since the OTA update to .217 ICS. It's getting thoroughly aggravating missing calls and texts, as I'm sure you can imagine... Thank you to anyone with ideas/suggestions.
Check your settings in both the system settings as well as each individual app. I think after the update the messaging app is set to silent by default, or at least the vibrate is turned off.
If the system is messed up I recommend that everyone install the ota factory reset. Clearing out your old GB data and letting the ICS run "fresh" solves a lot of problems.

Could it be a Smart Actions setting?
Settings are all fine yet it does randomly put itself on silent mode no vibration and you have to turn it back to vibration via settings volume rocker just puts it back on silent....

If it keeps happening tomorrow, I will do a full factory reset. Hoping I won't have to though. It's a pain in the rear to restore everything... It isn't a smart action thing because I have that app frozen, good thought though. Thank you all for the responses.
I tried a fr from recovery menu never froze apps nor rooted this d4 didn't help...

Update
I've found that it is only doing it with phone calls now. I cannot find a setting in the phone app or the system settings that is set to mute, but it keeps happening. Also, after using the lock screen to unmute it, I have to turn up the volume manually. The lock screen thing only bumps it up to the minimum volume level... Anything else come to mind before i do a full FR? I'd really rather avoid it if I can... Thanks again.
Now I've got one worse. Did a FR, no go. Tried to update to Eclipse, and messed it up. Had to .sbf back to factory. EVEN AFTER the .sbf, still having the same issue with it muting while recieving a call.... (i.e. goes on vibrate instead of ringing....) Any ideas ANYONE???!!?!?!?
Honestly, this sounds like a hardware issue to me. If I understand correctly, it sounds like the phone keeps going to silent (or vibrate after ICS)?
My guess after all your software troubleshooting is that your volume down key is either physically or electronically damaged, and periodically decreases itself. You might want to try remapping the volume button or something to see if that solves the problem. Of course, after that you don't have any volume buttons, which stink.
Aside, the physical buttons (power, volume) on the D4 really stink. They are very mushy and almost flush with the case, poor design if you ask me.
That thought crossed my mind also, but it only happens on an incoming call, and I can adjust the volume up and down in every app. If I don't receive a call all day, there is no problem, texts & emails work fine. I've even had a friend sit with me and text me (sound worked) then call me (muted as it received the call) and all it did was vibrate, no ringtone. I have who is it and thought it might be that, but un-installed it and no change... I'm totally out of ideas...
Thank you for the ideas, unfortunately nothing has worked so far. Any further ideas will be much appreciated. Thanks again.
Finally figured it out. Apparently it had to do with some stetting that Who Is It made. I had it set to announce the caller, which apparently doesn't work now. When I un-installed who is it nothing changed, so I re-installed it and on a whim disabled the announce feature, and it's been ringing fine since. I believe it was some sort of setting because after disabling the announcement, I un-installed who is it again, and the phone would ring without a problem. No Idea what setting it was. Thanks to veryone for the help.

[Q] Note 3 screen wont turn off

As stated, screen will not go off via timeout or power button tap. Power button is recognized and will bring up shut down menu like normal.
Device is rooted (thanks DG) and had been running well for over a week. Defrosted all apps from tibu in case I got over zealous but no better. A factory reset has not cleared it up either. Hoping the oneclick from the root package will correct the issue, but thats not until I get home later this evening.
Has anyone experienced / recovered from this issue?
Smart stay is turned off
I've had noticeable lag like a few seconds and sometimes I wonder if it's going to shut off but it always does. Better set a dark lock screen wallpaper to conserve your battery

Thanks for the thoughts.
I had already gone through the standard - double check the settings, remove recent apps. When all that failed and a factory reset still didn't clear it up I was beginning to worry about some kind of hardware damage (don't see how since I treat it better than my child ).
Fortunately the one click from the root seems to have restored proper operation. Back to rooting and rebuilding!

I'm having the same problem, I rooted through vroot.... what do you mean one click fixed it little my incite would be helpful....
thank you
Mine just did this, scared the hell out of me It also didn't go into deep sleep before it started. (Not rooted).
Pulled the battery, waited 30 seconds, plugged it back in.... same thing. Waited a few minutes, seems to have sorted itself out.
Scary....
This is definitely a software bug and it is related to the Headphone detection bug that people are having too (it's actually the same bug causing both issues). This happens to me quite often after I restart my phone. It's kind of like the phone hangs during the startup process. I've also noticed that the wifi/bluetooth status that was present before restarting the phone (i.e. whether they on/off) doesn't get applied until the bug sorts itself out.
For me sometimes this works: open an app like Chrome and then hit the home button to get back to your launcher. This works 95% of the time for me. I'm wondering if it has something to do with not having Touchwiz set as the default launcher.
I'm experiencing this same problem. If I don't manually turn the screen off by tapping the power button, the screen will not timeout.

Annoying 4 note notification sound

The sound is 4 progressively higher notes on a xylophone-like wooden or bamboo instrument. Usually plays on unlock, but also randomly throughout the day and night. My default notification sound is silence, so this might be tied to an app or the OS (MM 6.1). I just don't know what it is - other than loud and inconvenient. Any Ideas? This is driving me crazy and waking my wife at night. Thanks.
its an app, 100000%. now your job is to find out which one.
Hi and thanks for the confirmation Simms22. :good: I know. Kinda obvious.
I have gone through settings and turned off most radios thinking it could be tied to an app through BT, GPS, NFC, etc.; a successful connection or location fix. I have also gone through the various apps and checked their notification sound settings too. No dice. Whats worse is that I have gone through all my ringtones and notification sounds and can't find it.
It seems to be tied to the Google Now cards notifications, but if it is, I can't find it. I don't really want to turn those off but I guess that's next. Grrrr.

id still be guessing, but google doesnt have a xylophone-like wooden or bamboo instrument sound on the nexus 6, so i know its not a default sound.
Thanks for the info. Hope I described the sound well enough. I'm mostly deaf in one ear and can't hear out of the other. Misspent youth and all that.
I know the notifications and ringtones I've added. That leaves apps that have brought their own sounds with their install. So it's back to the haystack.
I think I'll let it percolate in the sub-conscience for a while. Besides, I'm way behind on a personal Tasker project. Thanks again. I'll update later with what I find out.

you can enable safe mode. that way you can check if its an app. long press the power button until you get the power off option. then long press on the power off until the safe mode option pops up. if that notification doesn't go off, then its an app. as on safe mode, all apps are disabled.
Flash another ROM. This happened to me on PureNex and when I switched to Chroma it went away.
Sometimes it actually happens once in a while. I'll hear the annoying "do dieu do doo" sound
Sent from my Nexus 6 using Tapatalk
I also have this problem. Has anybody found out the cause?
It started a few months ago and I ignored it, but now it is really annoying.
I put my phone into safe mode and it still happens. I assume this means it must be a preloaded app?
I installed a notification history app and nothing is listed when it happens!
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

P20 Pro - Do Not Disturb keeps turning itself on

As title, Do Not Disturb keeps turning itself on. Not matter what I do. I turned off all scheduling but still it keeps happening. It's driving me mad and spoiling a good phone. I searched around but cannot find any solution. It was suggested that Android Wear watch could be responsible but I turned the watch off and it still happens
I'm not accidentally pressing the shortcut either as I thought of that
Is this happening to anyone else? Any ideas? Could an app being doing it?
Thanks

Had a similar problem on my old Nexus 5 - turned out to be a stuck volume down button.

don't think it is that but I will try it out of the case for a while to check it is nothing like that
it's definitely not the phone case or stuck button. it still happens intermittently. I'm stumped
Is there anyway to switch on some logging or something so I can try and find the cause?
Hey, did you find a solution to this?
I'm having this issue with my Mate 10 Pro and it means I miss several calls!
i have the same problem with p20pro....3 hard reset and always the same before 3 days, at the same time problems with play store
+1
Except it's in the P20Lite
No buttons stuck.
Suspecting a hardware problem.
My audio speaker is a bit problematic. Sometimes the speaker doesn't work, and I have to 'bend' the phone a bit to make a speaker connection..
It sucks because I've missed some important calls
